An excellent buy for little ones being introduced to books.

Being a huge fan of the Hello Baby range by Priddy Books I was eager to see what they had to offer in their other collections when I was looking for books for the boys last Christmas. After a little searching I came across Quack! Quack! by Louise Rupnik part of Priddy Books Baby Touch and Feel Range. The cute little yellow duckling on the cover with it's fluffy yellow touchable stomach immediately grabbed my attention and so Quack! Quack! was quickly added to my shopping cart.

Featuring six adorable baby animals each page encourages little ones to interact with and explore the different textures that the touch and feel cut outs offer. The bright colours throughout the book provide a great contrast and the written animal sounds are fun for both young and old readers.

Made from paperboard the book is sturdy and well made, it's survived nearly a year worth of mistreatment from my boys and shows very little wear. The arch shaped design of Quack! Quack is also very appealing as you don't have to worry about any corners poking little eyes.

Overall Quack! Quack! is a great little beginner book that offers sensory development. Both my boys adore it and I have to agree with them.

      Truly a Children's Classic

When I first found out I was pregnant one of the things on my list was to build a collection of books for the boys. As a book lover I wanted my children to have those special memories of reading a favourite story before bed every night.

First published in 1969 The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle has been loved by children for decades. A cherished story from my own childhood The Very Hungry Caterpillar was one of my must have books.

Following the journey of a caterpillar who emerges from his egg feeling very hungry each page is filled with Eric Carle's bright and colourful signature collages instantly grabbing the attention of young readers. As the caterpillar chomps through a variety of foods you find fun little holes where the caterpillar has "eaten" through the page; which has little imaginations immediately picturing the caterpillar taking a bite out of their own book. Each page is turned with anticipation and eventually we reach the conclusion of the caterpillar emerging from his cocoon as vivid and beautiful butterfly.

The simple texts only adds to this books overall appeal, engaging young minds whilst still teaching them about counting, the days of the week and the life cycle of a butterfly. Children are completely captivated throughout The Very Hungry Caterpillars adventure.

Overall I would say this book has earned it's place as a children's classic and is a must for any young readers bookshelf.

A joy to the senses for a former coffee addict

I love my coffee and when I say love I mean LOVE. You could even say I'm a teeny bit addicted to coffee but to me there is nothing on Earth like it. I adore the smell, taste and satisfied feeling you get from a good cup of coffee. So you can imagine my complete devastation when I found out that I would have to give up coffee. My world was ending, what was I going to do? I had to find a replacement! So began my quest to find the perfect decaf coffee.

Now I am by no means a coffee snob, I tend to treat each brand on merit rather than price though most of the time those two factors are intertwined. So my search started at the cheapest end of the scale. Let me tell you stagnant dish water would probably taste better. It confirmed my worst suspicion; that I was doomed to live without my vice, there was no such thing as a decent decaf coffee.

Then one day as I was buying my husbands Nescafe Classic with much disgruntlement a flash of red caught my eye. Investigating further I discovered it to be Nescafe Original Decaffeinated, could this be the solution? It looked just like any other instant coffee with lovely granules instead of that awful fine powder which is a trait of a lot of Decaf coffees. Eagerly paying for my purchase I rushed home to find out more.

Opening the jar the first thing that hit me was the smell, oh that lovely dark aroma which I had so missed was present. The richness of it tantalized my senses making my mouth water in anticipation. That first sip was a revelation it tasted just like real coffee, I had a second to ensure that I wasn't being deceived but no I wasn't in fact it tasted even better. By the end of my cup I was glowing, that satisfied feeling had returned, praise Nescafe.

The best bit was it wasn't exorbitantly expensive, in fact the price was middle of the range. I could resume my little problem without a second thought.

Nescafe's website www.nescafe.com advertises Nescafe Classic Decaff as "All the qualities of the coffee you love, without the caffeine. We safely remove the caffeine while retaining the full flavor and wonderfully refreshing taste that are unique to NESCAFE."

I can assure you that Nescafe definitely live up to that promise, in fact I'd like to offer them a round of applause for successfully recreating a perfect imitation of the real thing. I really can't recommend Nescafe Original Decaffeinated enough.

Thank you Nescafe, you've given this former coffee addict hope.

          Doesn't live up to expectations.

My youngest son is one of those lucky babies who suffers from colic and wind. No matter what we tried after 1 oz of milk he would start screaming and refuse to eat anymore. You could spend half an hour winding him and it wouldn't make the slightest difference. After much research I decided to try Dr Brown's bottles.

          THE BOTTLE

Completely unique in design, Dr Brown's Natural Flow Baby bottles are the only product in the market that contains an internal vent system which helps eliminate air bubbles. Available in three different sizes 2oz (for premature babies), 4 oz and 8 oz the bottles are made out of either polypropylene plastic or borosilicate glass that are BPA, lead, PVC and phthalates free. Which as any safety conscious Mother will tell you is a must. With both standard and wide neck soft silicone teats that range from Premature to 9+ months Dr Brown's offer a complete feeding system for your baby.

          MY EXPERIENCE

As we all know Dr Brown's bottles are expensive but when you have an unhappy baby you're willing to fork out your entire savings for that promised solution. There was the slightest improvement in my little man's eating habits when we switched to Dr Brown's. Considering though that it was all of 10ml I'm not sure I can attribute the change to Dr Brown.

As for ease of use well the design is unbelievably fiddly at the best of times and downright near impossible to assemble whilst juggling a baby eager to eat. As for cleaning Dr Brown's bottles well you will spend three times as long washing bottles because of all the components and need to use an assortment of brushes to get the job done. So be prepared to become well acquainted with your kitchen sink!

Maybe it's just me or I'm extremely lazy but personally I think a bottle should be easy and quick to assemble and maintain.

Dr Brown's bottles do however have some redeeming features. The silicone teat is extremely soft and pliable and does not possess the rigid feel that a lot of teats on the market do, which for me is a plus. My boys also seemed to prefer the shape of the teat on the Dr Brown's bottles and had absolutely no trouble staying latched on. With some of the other brands and designs they would constantly try and push the bottle out of their mouth.

          CONCLUSION

After weighing up price, effectiveness, ease of use and design I would rate my experience with Dr Brown's Natural Flow Baby bottles as average. I guess expected to get more for my money and such an "innovative" design.

            THE CIRCUS ARRIVES WITHOUT WARNING

            NO ANNOUNCEMENTS PRECEDE IT...

IT IS SIMPLY THERE, WHEN YESTERDAY IT WAS NOT

The Night Circus is the debut fantasy novel of Erin Morgenstern. Released in 2011 to much critical acclaim The Night Circus rapidly shot onto the Best Seller lists in the US and UK. The question is does it live up to all the hype?

From the first page it becomes clear that The Night Circus is one of the few novels that deserves it's stellar reviews. Morgernstern artfully draws you into the world of The Night Circus where you encounter the aptly named "Le Cirque des Reves" and so begins an enchanting journey through "The Circus of Dreams".

What follows is an enthralling novel that completely enmeshes the reader into the story. making you feel as though all you have to do is reach out and you will find The Night Circus to be your reality.

Flowing beautifully from start to finish you will keep turning each page to discover what new marvel awaits. The only downside is that once The Night Circus ends and you awaken, you shall be itching to join the circus that Morgensterns imagination has created.

Overall I would say The Night Circus manages to exceed it's hype. Eliciting powerful responses from the reader and at times making you feel like a child again where there is a whole wondrous world that awaits your exploration.

It definitely deserves it's place on your bookshelf.
