      Simple-Get it!

I remember years ago when i used to watch the music channels whilst getting ready for school an advert would come on during the breaks called Shazam, which you would dial 2580 on your phone and hold it next to a speaker and it would text you back with the song and artist. I always though that this was great, although could prove to be quite costly if used frequently. When i bought my iphone, I was searching through the app store to see any new apps I could load onto the phone, and I came across Shazam.

The version I have is free, however, you can purchase one for only £2.99 which has far more detail in terms on band information and where and when they are performing. Im not into music too much, and rarely go to see bands live, so the free version is perfect for me. When I first heard about it I was a little dubious as to how accurate it could be, as it seemed too simple to be true, however, after using it for around three months I can say that it really is as simple as it sounds, and as of yet it has recognised every song which i have requested. The free app for the iphone allows you to tag an unlimited amount of songs, however, there is an update which I have not done because I think it now limits your tagging if you have had the app after November 2009. It saves all of your tags, and I use it frequently at work or out and about to quickly tag a song I like, go home and download it. It does give you links now to youtube so you can watch the video, and also to itunes so you can download it there and then, it really is a way of making life very simple.

You tag a song by clicking 'tag now' and hold the phone up to the music for around 15 seconds, and about 10 seconds later it will analyse the song and show you what it si called and the artist who sings it, all within 30 seconds.

It is available for every other smart phone too and has recently been released for the ipad, however, I havent used it on any other format so cant comment on these.

Overall I think that Shazam is a music revelation and solves those little problems of thinking 'I know this song but cant think of what its called' , I just had a thought that it could be great during a pub quiz too, but I wouldnt endorse cheating! The database must be massive and the technology to impliment this is mind boggling considering its accuracy. I really cant see why anybody wouldnt want to own this, espicially as it can be a free service, it just sits of the phone until you need it, and it wont let you down.

For the money its one of those apps which you may aswel just buy

Ive had this app for a little while now and when i bought it, it cost 59p and was near the top of the paid for apps, even now its still in the top ten which shows that it is a very popular app with 3131 ratings and a 4 star overall rating.

I was unsure what excatly it was about until i bought it but i tend to buy the cheap apps if they appear to be quite popular just to see how good they are. Basically though, talking carl is a big red square thing with two big bulgy eyes who sits in the middle of the screen with a nice sunny outdoor scene behind him. All sounds very boring, and it is, until you start to play with him.

You can poke him and tickle him and he reacts in different ways depending on what you do, initailly this is funny, but soon gets quite boring, so the second feature of talking carl is really what makes it so funny. He will repeat everything you say in a high pitched voice which just sounds hilarious. With one person it again gets boring after a while, but if you have a group of people it will pick up on various voices and keep repeating lots of the conversations going on at the time. It gets to a point where you just cant talk anymore without laughing because he copies you every time.

I used it the other night during a poker night and it always recieves a good reaction, which I think for 59p represents good value for money as it makes so many people smile.

I think overall it is a completely useless app, and most of the time you will not use it. However, in those group situations where you just want to make people smile, then for the small fee of 59p, it is well worth it for the reactions it recieves.

A fantastic shampoo that I cannot find fault with!

I was in body care recently and looking for a shampoo thats actually for greasy hair as my hair seems to get quite greasy lately. The only shampoo that I came across that was specifically for greasy hair was this Fructis anti-dandruff shampoo. I've always loved the smell of Fructis shampoo as I find it so refreshing and like a traditional shampoo should be. I hadn't actually used Fructis in at least 7 years so I was a little doubtful as to how it would be on my hair now. There must have been some reason as to why I stopped using it in the first place. I don't exactly have dandruff problems but can sometimes in the summer have a flaky scalp so I thought I could see the results in the summer. My mum does have dandruff problems so I thought she could try it on her hair.

So I thought I would go for it as opening the lid the shampoo smelt quite pleasant and the price was very reasonable. It only cost me £1.49 for a 250ml bottle which is only a little more than my regular timotei shampoo.

The following day I decided to give this shampoo a try as I wanted to see if it would help my greasy hair. I am always pessimistic when it comes to shampoo's for greasy hair as I've had a few in the past and they just don't seem to work or just aren't very nice.

The bottle was very easy to open, it just has a small lid on the top which isn't fiddley at all. I squirted some on to my hand and was surprised at the vivid pale green colour and it seemed quite a thick shampoo. I massaged the shampoo in to my hair and found it lathered up nicely but not as much as shampoo's I've used before. The smell was just delicious, so fruity but then not so that it was sickly. I washed the shampoo out and then added just a touch of conditioner to the ends of my hair as it is quite long.

When I came to drying and straigtening my hair I was actually quite suprised at how soft my hair was. When I had finally done my hair it looked really nice and not greasy in the slightest which it does sometimes do even when I've just washed it. I could still smell the shampoo as well which was really nice.
Throughout the day when I caught a glimpse of my hair in mirrors or shop windows I was still suprised at how good it looked and not greasy at all. By the end of the day, my hair still felt silky soft and was still not greasy.

I lent the shampoo to my mum a few days later and told her it makes your hair so soft as her hair is quite coarse. She used it a few days running and her dandruff had improved as well as her hair being quite soft.

The bottle says that it gives results from the first wash which usually isn't the truth but in this case it really is! I would definately recommend this shampoo to those that have dandruff and those that have greasy hair as well as it has seemed to solve my problem!

For just £1.49 a bottle from Bodycare, I don't think you can get much more of a bargain!

A bit of pot luck really, but would reccomend trying them

I absolutly love Pringles and usually when I go round to my boyfriends house his mum has more often than not bought a tub of Pringles for him to munch through during the week. Not too good I know, but I usually end up eating ost of them anyway.

It wasnt until i went round to his that I had tried this flavour. I saw them firstly in WH Smith at Gatwick airport and thought that they sounded interesting but never got round to buying them. I usually go for either Salt and Vinegar or cheese and onion, so wasnt too sure on these by the sounds of the flavour. However, I have to say that they are actually very nice, they are fairly hot, espicially after a few, but mainly have a strong cheesy flavour which I think goes together very well.

I have had quite a few of his packs now and they seem to vary in flavour quite a lot, where some are full of flavour, and some are very weak. I had a pack the other day which tasted very salty with cheese, as opposed to chilli and cheese, was quite strange!

There are a lot of new flavours in the extreme range, and although I havent got round to trying the others, im sure that either I, or my partners mum will buy some in the near future and I shall try them then!

I dont think whilst shopping you could miss them, they are in a fairly eye catching packet unlike their normal flavours which I think is probably what originally caught my eye. They are usually around £1.50 for a pack but very regulary on offer at two packs for £2 which I dont think is too bad.

There are just over 750 calories and 48g of fat per 150g pack of pringles, which really isnt very healthy at all, but for the odd occasion I think its worth it.

Overall if you get a pack with lots of flavour on, they are really nice, however, if you are unlucky and get one with hardly any coating, you may, like me at times, feel slightly dissapointed.

A boring box of cereals that are certainly not for me!

My mum recently bought these to try as we are always on the look out for new or different cereal. They were on offer at Morrisons recently for just £1.50 which is relatively reasonable considering normally they are something stupid like £2.30ish.

We very rarely have branded cereal in our household as they can be far to expensive and you can find other cereals that are so much more tasty. That was unfortunately the case with this cereal.

The look of the cereal seems quite appealing, crispy moreish wheat and oat flakes covered in baby oats with oat clusters and delicously tasty raisins. I'm afraid that is not what I found!

Opening up the box, the cereals looked kind of artificial, the oat flakes seemed to be quite rounded and they looked like the texture of something like Nesquik. So I poured myself a bowl and covered it in plenty of milk.

Then putting a spoonful in my mouth, I just knew that I was going to find the cereal disappointing. The oat flakes were really too hard and didn't have an awful lot of flavour. The little clusters were quite nice but as I munched my way through a big bowl of this cereal with the odd raisin, in the end I was very disappointed and found that the overall taste was bland. I have quite a sweet tooth so like tasty cereals but this cereal was really not sweet at all.

I hate bland and boring cereal!! If I wanted a boring cereal, I would have gone and bought Morrisons own bran flakes which cost hardly anything. So all in all a very disappointing cereal. Morrisons own maple and pecan crisp is about 10 times nicer than this and only costs £1.30ish. Now that is what I call a tasty cereal.

And as for nutritional information! 172 calories per 30g portion with 125ml semi-skimmed milk??? Now thats a lot of calories for a cereal that tastes like rubbish. Also 3.5g of fat of which 1.5g are saturated.

So you may like to try them but really I don't think it is worth it when you can get better cereal for less money.

A workout DVD that will get your blood pumping if you give it a chance!

Having a quick peak at some of the other reviews for this DVD, I've got to say I'm actually of a slightly different opinion to others!!

Basically, I love this DVD! I actually bought this DVD at least 4 years ago when my friend and I used to regularly meet up to do an exercise DVD. I had done this one quite a few times previous to doing it with my friend and yes I did struggle to get the moves a little but after a few practices I had mastered it. I do have previous dance experience (I have done ballet since I was 3) which may have been one of the reasons that I picked it up quite quickly.
Unfortunately when I came to do the DVD with my friend, she couldn't quite pick the moves up as quickly and wanted to give up half way through the sections!
So I put the DVD away for a few years and my friend got pregnant so doing the workout DVD's got a little difficult.

Last year, in spring/early summer I decided I wanted to get fit again and was feeling a bit chubby after eating lots throughout the winter. So I thought I would give this DVD another go and just do the Warm up, High energy and cool down sections, like I used to. As I got into the DVD, remembering all the moves, I was getting quite out of breath in the high energy part and suprised at how unfit I had become!

So after that experience I decided to religiously get into my exercising again and have kept it up since. I started doing this DVD once a week and am still doing it at least one every few weeks, a whole year later.

So the DVD comprises of five sections, warm-up, hi-energy, dance it up, bums tums and thighs and cool down.

The warm up section is easy and does warm you up, just as a warm up should be. The only thing I would prefer in this warm up would be if there were more stretches, but its not a big issue.

The hi energy section I think is quite tiring and gets you out of breath as it should do. When you start learning this section you're not out of breath too much as it can be a little tricky to pick up all of the moves but once you get the hang of it you would find that it does do a good job! I love some of this music as well, particularly DJ Sammy boys of summer which really gets you in to it.

The dance section is actually quite tiring once you've learnt it all off by heart. This is more tricky to learn off by heart than then hi energy and took me a good four times to get it more or less right. Really you would need to watch it through once or twice just to get the moves in your head. I actually really enjoy this part as it is more dancy but quite tiring as well. Also good for your muscles in the stretchy parts (I always seem to pull a few).

The bums, tums and thighs section is absolutely brilliant in my opinion. This sort of section has always been my weakness and the part I least enjoy but I do like doing this. After having done this part of the dvd at least once a week for the last year, I believe it has given me the thighs I have now (not much fat on them at all). The sit up section is good as well, its roughly 60 sit ups in total. I think this has given me a slightly firmer stomach as well.

By the time you get to the cool down section you kind of just want to sleep. You lie on the floor and do different stretching exercises and its nice slow music. I would prefer this section if it had more stretches but it is still a good cool down.

The main woman who does the talking could annoy some people but I think shes quite encouraging! Another reason why you should learn the moves off by heart is because she sometimes doesn't tell you what is coming up. Again this doesn't bother me, but may bother others.

You can pick and chose which parts of the DVD you want to do for example I normally do the warm up, hi energy, bums tums and thighs and then cool down, or replace the hi energy with the dance it up section. I don't do all sections too often as it can be really tiring! Just four sections lasts an hour anyway so thats long enough for me!

I would recommend anyone to try this DVD if you like dance workouts and have the patience to learn and pick the moves up. Also if you have the time to do this a few times a week for a long period of time, you will see the results. I never thought a workout DVD would do much good for me, but after a long period of time I have seen results.

You can buy this DVD for about £7 on the internet and its quite a good buy if you get as much use out of it as I do!

So get exercising and give it a go!

The pinnacle of the snooker calender

I love playing snooker throughout the winter and watch the tournaments when they are on throughout the year. However, the one I will never miss, and always look forward to is the World Championships held in The Crucible in Sheffield every April.

The weather is usually beginning to turn, and the evenings become longer, I find nothing more rewarding than returning home from a hectic day of work to switch on the snooker, lie down with the patio door open, hold a beer or a cider and just drift away with the peacefulness of the snooker. Sometimes i will actually go to sleep to it, not because it is boring, but because it is just so calming, most though, I will stay awake as in some matches the quality can be amazing. Unless you have actually tried to play on a full size table you really cant appreciate just how good some of these players are.

Im too young to remember the old days where you had the big characters in the game, but nowadays you have Ronnie who is always a fan favourite, but many young and up coming players such as Ali Carter, Neil Robertson, and many of the Chinese players such as Ding Junui and Liang Wenbo. All bring their own twist to the game and when you get a clash of young versus old, the games can be fascinating.

The finals are always over the May bank holiday, and usually I am at work, but as soon as I come home I turn the snooker on and pray for a close final which goes right to the wire. There is nothing better than being awake at 1am in the morning watching the gruelling end to a 35 frame match.

I can see why to some people snooker seems a boring game, it is very slow moving, and in reality not a lot happens. Its one of those sports which you either love or hate, but if you are looking to get into a new sport, i would highly reccommend watching this tournament as its the pinnacle of the snooker calender. If not, then just watch the final, the tension can be second to none. Get on the snooker table too to really appreciate the skill involved in this game.

A very good subsitite for the Mcvities versions

After deciding to downgrade many of my branded purchases to the supermarkets own, it wasnt too long before I was going to try these Tesco value jaffa cakes. I have in the past tried many of Tescos own branded food and found them to be a bit hit and miss, but without trying them you will never know. My favourite has to be their own shortbread, however, this has risen from 9p to 29p in no time, which after reading a few of the older reviews, appears that these have risen too from 49p to 59p.

Basically they are in a very boring box, you can see the picture, it is simple and plain, however, does the job of telling the consumer what is in the box. For 59p you get 24 jaffa cakes, which is about 2.5p each.

The cakes themselves look identical to the Mcvities version, and first impressions are good. You take a bit and notice that the base is a little firmer, and the orange a bit tangier, but personally I think that both of these go to making them an improvement on the originals. I would safely say that if you were just handed the cake, without knowing that it wasnt a Mcvities cake, then you would assume it was an original. For the picky foodies out there there is a slight difference, however, for the money conscious, I think that considering they are well under half the price of the Mcvities jaffa cakes, you could easily give them to your children without them really questioning the difference.

They have 42 calories per cake, and this seems to be average for this type of food, and although is a fair amount, im not too fussed about this as long as I get in my normal amount of exercise per day!

Overall I think that Tesco have done a very good job on these, personally I believe improving the originals as I prefer the firmer base and stronger orange jelly. The chocolate seems identical too. I would definatly reccommend giving these a try, sooner rather than later as it appears the prices rise quite quickly on their own brand of food.

A much better and efficient method of pedalling

After the spiraling costs of petrol have seen my monthly petrol bill rise by about £30 per month, I decided to take up the government funded initiave of a cycle to work scheme. I got my voucher which covered the cost of the bike plus around £200 for my accessories. As I wanted to start to take up road cycling as a fairly constant hobby, and knowing the cycle would be 32 mile round trip, i knew I needed to get the correct gear. I decided to buy a set of Shimano SPD pedals and compatable shoes as the benefits are much greater than normal pedals.

This is a review on Shimano M063 shoes, however for those who dont know what they are, I will give a little bit on information on what SPD pedals do. SPD was invented by Shimano, and is short for Shimano Pedalling Dynamics, it is essentially a clipless pedal which allows you to attach yourself to a bike for improved performance. You need to buy both the pedals, and a set of shoes too. The pedals come with cleats, which are small pieces of metal which you attach to the base of your chosen shoe(these are specific to each brand of pedal) and these cleat just lock into the pedals with a downward movement on the pedal.

As I had never used these before I was a little dubious and concerned and knew they would take a bit of getting used to, however, once setting up the shoes with the cleats, it took a day of clipping in and out on my driveway before I was confident to go out on the road. The clipping out is a simple movement outwards of the heel and a lift of the foot. The reason these types of shoes are better are that when attached to a pedal, you can generate movement by both lifting and pushing on the pedal instead of just pushing with conventional pedals. Also pedal which have toeclips and much more dangerous as you have to strap yourself in tight to notice the benefit, yet can clip out quickly in an emergency.

Anyway back to the shoes! I spent £60 from the shop, however, they are available on the internet for just £45 including delivery. For the money they are very good value, depsite being more of an entry level model. They are a mountain bike shoe, which is better although I use them for the road, as the cleat sits recessed into the shoe, allowing me to walk once I reach my destination, whereas most road shoes have the cleat positioned after the shoe tread, meaning that you cant walk at all in them without hurting your feet.

The shoes are fairly sturdy, they need to be quite stiff at the bottom otherwise it will be uncomfortable when riding, and for the money I was surprised that they are quite stiff, although im sure they will loosen up over time, for now they are perfect. They have quite a few airholes which when riding is important as it allows for a cooler circulation around the foot, and on rides of up to 30 miles so far I have not had a sweaty foot once.

They look quite good too, they are a silver and black design, and when you reach your destination they dont scream 'hey im a cyclist' which is what I didnt want.

Overall the benefits of this type of cycling are instantly noticable. For the smallish outlay of around £80 for shoes and pedals(which is definatly in the lower end of the market) considering the amount you may spend on a bike, you want to get the most out of it and I think that these will help you pedal much faster, for much longer, whilst being more comfortable when doing so. You could spend a fortune on new shoes and pedals, however, for a newbie to the sport, I couldnt reccommend these highly enough. I have been using them now for around a month and have no bad point to mention at all.

                        Advantages

                        Disadvantages

A very refreshing and pleasant showergel for every day use

Every other week my Gran buys me some sort of shower gel, I don't know how she thinks I get through it that quickly but I'm not complaining as I get a great choice of new products for free!!

So about a month ago my gran bought me this shower gel which I'd never had before. She seemed to think it was relatively new and thought it smelt quite nice.

I had a sniff to find it was actually quite strong and smelt particularly orangey, but I thought I should give it a proper try in the shower later on.

Applying it to my spongey thing I really only needed a little bit as it lathered up a lot. The smell was quite pleasant but quite fruity which I could imagine some people would not like. Even though the smell is quite fruity, the showergel is actually supposed to be a white tea infusion but I don't think white tea smells of much because its mainly orange you can smell! But it isn't like a satsuma orange smell, it is quite pleasant.

The colour of the showergel isn't the nicest colour, its like a creamy off white colour, but this doesn't really bother me! It does make you think more of white tea than orange though so probably takes some of the emphasis off the orange smell! If you know what I mean!

I couldn't really smell the showergel on my skin afterwards which I was quite glad about as I didn't really want to smell like an orange. But I did feel really refreshed and energised.

I've since used the showergel after doing vigorous excercise and have found it really nice to use as it makes me feel extra fresh after a nice hot shower.

I wouldn't say the showergel makes my skin feel amazing but it doesn't make it feel bad either. It just makes it feel normal!

The showergel is easy to use as well, not fiddly and you can get every last drop out of it as it stands on the lid.

I've been using the showergel for about 3 weeks now and still have just under half of the bottle left. So it definately goes a long way.

Also I was in Savers the other day and intrigued to find out the price of the showergel. It was actually only £1.95 which is really not much at all in comparison to others.

Overall a great refreshing every day showergel which I would probably buy again.

                          Advantages

                          Disadvantages

Thanks again to all of those who have helped me reach my cheques!

My partner and I have been on Dooyoo now for just over a year, and in this time we have earned three cheques, and should soon be a fourth on the way. My partner had been travelling and when he returned we decided for some strange reason to get a big tub in our room and fill it with all of our change throughout the year. Over time this has accumilated, and then we found dooyoo.

When we recieved our first cheque we decided that we may aswel put the money in the pot along with all of the change, and have done so for the last three, and will do for the next one. This pot has been getting bigger and bigger as the time goes on and we have never really decided on what excatly we would be doing with it. However, we have decided that before we settle down and buy our own place(we are both living with parents at the moment) we would like one final nice holiday before scrimping and saving for the next however many years.

So we have decided to spend all of the money in out pot on a three week holiday to Thailand. We are in the process of booking the holiday up at the moment, and have realised that the money in the pot will just about cover the flights, so we are in a way getting free flights and when we get there we will have a lot more spare money to spend on having a good time!

We thought that by putting a bit of effort into dooyoo we might get a bit of money, but looking back on it to say that we have gradually built up almost £200 from just writing and reading reviews, it really has been a good way to spend the odd 10 minutes per day!

So thankyou to all of those who have, and will continue to read and rate my reviews, your 1.5p is very much appreciated, and in Thailand will probably go a long long way to a very nice meal!

                            Advantages

                            Disadvantages

Give them a try before knocking them.

I really do not like Halfords as a shop and if I can avoid it I will never go in there. They sell a complete range of products which I have no interest in, such as an audio department which sells audio equipment and sat nav, a bikehut which sells bikes and accessories, and parts deartment which sells vehicle spares and a touring department which sells travel equipment and baby seats. I usually get either my boyfriend or dad to sort this type of equipment out and usually will be bought off the internet, however, the other day I had to face my demons and enter the shop.

Previously when i have been forced to go there as a last resort I have found their staff less than helpful, and there are never too many of them. This time was different though. I needed an innertube for my bike as I hadnt ridden it for a while and wanted togo on a bike ride with my boyfriend. When i entered their bikehut I had no idea what I was looking for but a member of staff approached me fairly quickly and found the correct tube for my wheel. He also fitted it for me free of charge, which he said would usually cost at least £5, so I left very happily.

Obviosly not everybody will get this treatment, but there are some out there who will go 'the extra mile' as their slogan states.

It then got me thinking about other services that they offer and in hindsight I think I have have been a little too harsh on the shop. They will fit many items they sell, almost anything really, and for somebody like myself who has no idea about cars, this could one day prove very valuable if travelling back late at night and a bulb goes. They do charge a fee for this usually, so I have no idea why the chap offered to fit it for free but he did.

Their prices are usually higher than the internet, but then the same could be said of many shops nowadays. For some people though who prefer the service that they offer, I think it can be a price worth paying, espicially how much dealers charge for labour.

Overall I would now visit the shop in the future, and if i have been converted then I think anybody can.I still wouldnt visit the shop unless I knew I had something to buy from there, but at least I wont find myself actively avoiding it in the future!

                              Advantages

                              Disadvantages

Lasts for months and smells delcious, what more can you want??

I first encountered the Body Shop's Japanese Cherry Blossom range a few years ago when I was looking for a different body lotion and didn't mind spending a little extra. It was actually a limited edition from the body shop at this time. I originally had the puree body lotion which I loved so much as it smelt absolutely delicious! This lotion was so light on my skin and lasted a long time so it was well worth the £9 I spent.I went to go and buy another one but the limited edition had disappeared within a few months which was a shame.

About a month ago, I popped in to the body shop to buy my boyfriend's mum a gift voucher for her birthday. Walking in to the shop I spotted a stand which had all of the Japanese Cherry Blossom products again! I was so excited and thought I would have to buy her something from this range. Smelling the products reminded me how nice and fresh the products were so I brought some bits and bobs for my boyfriend's mum up to the value of £15. I couldn't really afford to spend £10 - £15 on myself at this time which was a shame as I really wanted to buy some!

I got to the till and the lady said to me that if I spent and extra £5 then I could get a body butter (which would normally cost up to £12) of my choice for free. I asked if this included the Japanese Cherry Blossom and she said yes! So I quickly grabbed one of these and paid.

As soon as I got home, I tried out the body butter because it smelt so delicious!
The appearance actually looks quite nice, its a smooth and creamy light pink colour.
Applying it to my skin, I was just a little disappointed but would probably still buy the product again. I found that the butter was a little bit greasy and not the easiest butter to rub into your skin. This doesn't bother me as I have quite dry skin anyway but if I had greasy skin I don't think I could wear it!
The smell is much stronger than the puree body lotion as well, you can smell the cherry much more and it can be quite sweet when you first put it on. It still smells very pleasant and the sweetness wears off in a few minutes. The smell of the lotion on my skin lasted quite a while. I could still smell it about 5 hours later in the day! It's a smell which is suitable for spring and summer time as well which is nice.

I have now used the body butter on various occassions and it barely looks as if I've touched the surface. I think it will be lasting me a very long time!

I would recommend this product to any ladies whatever your age. I just wouldn't recommend the body butter if you have greasy skin, maybe try the puree body lotion instead (which is lighter and not greasy at all).

Although it does cost £12, it is worth it for the quality of the product and it will last you for at least a few months. You may even be able to get it free in an offer like I did!

Would recommend it for anyone who is flyng from Gatwick! Great value for money!

When booking my holiday last year to Cyprus, my partner and I decided to fly from Gatwick airport. We thought we were going to have to get up at 2.30am to drive down to Gatwick and leave the car there (paying extortionate prices) which didn't seem a great start to our holiday. However, I had a brain wave and realised the group of hotels I work for have a hotel near Gatwick Airport. I checked availability with them and they had rooms available for when we required, so I asked my general manager to see if I could get a park and fly package with them.

It was all booked up within the day. The general manager of Menzies Chequers advised I booked the park and fly package which was a total of just over £90 which included an overnight stay for my partner and myself and leaving my car there for two weeks!

I do normally receive a staff rate of £15 per person so really the cost of parking the car was only £60 which is nothing compared to other car park prices at Gatwick!

So we travelled down the day before our flight but didn't arrive at the hotel until 9pm. It was quite easy to get to, the Satnav took us in the right direction and it was noticeably signposted.

The lady that checked us in was very pleasant (I should know this as I have been a hotel receptionist for over a year now) and informed of us everything we needed to know. We had already eaten but she did tell us there was a restaurant/bar area ajoining the hotel which was open until 10pm which would have been good had we not eaten.

So after directing us to our room we gathered our belongings and made our way on up. Luckily there is a lift in the hotel as it would have been very difficult to carry our suitcases.

We got to the room and I was very pleased with it. I think our room had been recently refurbished as it was very modern with brown and beige colours and was extremely clean. It was furnished in the same way as at the hotel I work at so I could tell that it was a standard room. I wasn't bothered that they hadn't upgraded us as we would only be in the room for a few hours.
We made ourselves a lovely hot chocolate and snuggled up in bed to get a good few hours sleep.

Waking up in the early hours, I decided to have a wash in the walk in shower and use the products i.e. showergel/body lotion. They are standard products, nothing exciting, but better than nothing at all!

When we were ready to go, we went back down to reception where we had to put our car keys in an envelope and write a code on the envelope that we would remember so that we could get the keys when we got back. This is obviously for security purposes which was quite good. I did however notice that on the envelope it said that they may have to move the vehicle to a different car park during the time that we were away however it wouldn't be any further than 5 miles away and it would be at the hotel upon our return. This did annoy me a little as I didn't want them to waste my petrol, I spend enough as it is!

The night porters on the reception desk (who I'm disappointed to say were not actually that friendly) ordered a taxi for us which came within 5 minutes. The taxi man helped us with our luggage and took us to the airport which took about 8 minutes and cost £5 which I thought was very reasonable.

Overall the short stay that I had was very pleasant and the package we booked was really great value for money. I wish I'd known about this package years ago as I would have booked it then!

Whenever I fly from Gatwick now, I will be staying, and hopefully leaving my car at the Menzies Chequers hotel.

                                  Advantages

                                  Disadvantages

It useless at what it claims to do

This product is absolutly useless and really doesnt do what it is supposed to in the slightest. Basically in essence the product could be very good, the idea is that you spray it over your windows the night before, and providing the temperature doesnt fall below -25 degrees, the windows will not freeze over.

I have tried it on a few occasions, and even gave it to my dad to try just to make sure i hadnt been doing anything wrong, both times i followed the instructions and woke up to find a windscreen froze over just as if I hadnt used the product at all. He used it to the same useless affect, so I had to draw the conclusion that it was the product and not myself.

I did however, through luck find that it works just as a normal de-icer does and by spraying it over the already frozen screen, it does get rid of the ice, just as if it was a normal de-icer. However, as this wasnt the reason I bought the product, it really doesnt do what it says it does.

This can be found for usually around £2.99, and during the winter months is on offer of three for two, which is how I bought it with two other normal de-icers. As I found that it did work as a de-icer, all was not lost and for the money it wasnt too bad, but dont for one second think that this will do what it says it will.

Interestingly, when I visited the store to stock up for a small holiday break down south, I overheard the staff commenting on how bad the product was compared to a normal de-icer. Given the bad reviews on here, and the fact that even the staff think its useless, I really wouldnt reccommend this in the slightest. I now just cover the windows with tarpaulin the night before and find this works perfectly, so this would be my advice.
