Ok so I had always heard that to get the best out of your make up you should use the proper brushes however for me I thought the proper brushes were a rip off to be frank and my naked eye could not see the difference between them and the cheap equivalents and in my own wonderful opinion my make up look fine when applied.
That was until i went out shopping with my sister and she persuaded me to give it a try. Me knowing nothing about make up brushes and such just went with what i knew to be a reputable brand and chose Clinique.
The brush itself is sleek in design with a clear handle which is a bit chunky so you get a good hold and not too slender. The brush itself is big and full and very soft to the touch. I bought the brush from a Clinique counter in Debenhams and it cost me £20. Another little bonus for me was the fact that the brush came with a translucent type wallet which is good cos I can dump it in my bag with this and not worry about it getting all dirty.
I use the brush generally to apply my pressed powder over my foundation and also my blotting powder. Immediately I noticed the improved coverage and also that the powder is much more evenly distributed with this than the cheaper alternatives.
I can proudly say i am a convert and intend on getting a whole set, eyeshadow brush, foundation brush and all. Having used it for some months now I have also cleaned the brush in soapy warm water and just let it air dry and after that it was back to normal and just like new.
Looking back £20 is not too much money for something like this because it looks set to last me a good while and it makes sense that if I spend about £40 on my foundation and powder because I want to look good and have quality why should I spoil all of that by uptting it on with something that only costs a few pound and will not do justice to the quality make up I buy.
OK so me and my greasy skinned self went on the hunt once again for a product which would allow me to go more than 3 hours without becoming a shiny, slimy mess! Now my make up is always oil free as a rule but I wanted something to act as a primer to hold off the oil for a bit longer. I do use Mac's blotting powder which is great but I wanted something which meant I would not have to powder up too often and prevent my make up looking in anyway cakey!
Enter Clinique pore minimiser instant perfector! I bought this from a Clinique counter in House of Fraser for £13 which I thought was not too bad because Clinique is a reputable brand known for it's skin care range.
Anyway onto the product the pore minimiser comes in what seems to be quite a small size about 40ml which at first glance I thought would not last me the week however the kind assistant assured me I would not need to use a lot at any one time.
While I bought this to go under my make up it can be used alone or on top of make up as well, which is a plus, there is no real fragrance to this that I can make out.
To use simply dot the pore minimiser all over the face, I out a bit more where I am especially oily. To be honest I apply about 4 dots on each cheek one on the chin and nose and about 2 on the forehead. I then rub it in. As soon as you begin to rub it in you can feel the mattness, the liquid is not greasy at all and I found when I first used it putting any more than what I stated was a bit much and felt a bit powdery (that's as close as I can describe it sorry!)
Anyway after using I applied my make up as normal and off I went. I applied it at about 7.45am before going to work, at about 11 while at work I checked how I was holding out and was impressed to see that my face was not really that greasy, I just blotted a little around the nose and that was that. Now bear in mind usually without any help my face by then would usually be shiny, greasy and my make up looking somewhat slimy, so big improvement, I was one happy bunny!
Overall I think although it is small a little goes a long way and the difference in my skin was clear, if you have oily skin like me I would say it was worth a try and after 2 weeks use I am sure this will become a staple product for me.
What can i say??? I love all things shea so for me when i saw this i had no choice but to buy! I love body shop body butters and this one did not dissapoint and worth the money at around £8 per jar.
Shea butter is nice and thick, as the main thing which gets me about some brands of body butter is that they are not thick and actually kinda thin...which to me is just a lotion in a jar and such brands should be done for false advertising!..but I digress!
The butter is nice and think and easy to apply on the body, shea is natually oily and moisturising so this is very good for dry skin and great to use in the winter when skin is prone to become even more dry I would suggest you don't over apply or you will be practically slippery!
Overall you get to pamper youself safe in the knowledge you are aslo supporting fair trade!
I am a sucker for new make up products and when I saw this in superdrug I had to give it a try!
The sleek face contour kit is designed to enable the wearer to drate contours on the face which enhance the definition mainly in the cheek bone area by adding shadows.
The kits are available in light medium and dark so you choose according to your skin tone, being of african descent I chose dark but for caucasion individuals you would go for light andyone inbetween would go for medium. The kit cost just over £5 which for what it is I think is reasonable.
Contained in the kit are 2 powders one is a pressed powder used to create the shadow and one is a shimmer powder which will contrast with the shadow helping to create definition. One downside for this product is that there is no bruch provided so you do need to have your own brush to apply the kit. A good point is that there are wrtten instuctions about how to use, so if like me you have not used such a thing it is very helpful.
To use I first of all applied my regular foundation as normal. I then followed the instructions and used the pressed powder first of all just below the apple of the cheek bone going up towards the hairline until there was a noticable shadow created I then blended a bit with my fingers to make it less obvious. I then applied the shimmer powder onto the apple of the cheek, I found I had to put quite a bit of this but then again I was being a bit cautious in case it went wrong!
Finished effect? not as defined as I thought it would be but I think it was because the first time I used it I did not want to go over board it was a bit better the second time.
The best thing about this is that it can also be used on the eyes and the nose, I do not use it on my nose, simply because I don't think for me it is necessary but I have used it on my eyes and really loved the finished product, instructions for eyes and nose application are also included. For the eyes I just used the shimmer on the eyelid, then the powder on the crease for definition, you can leave it like this but I find it looks much better when you also apply shimmer beneath the brow.
All in all for what it is it comes at a good price and I like that is has multiple uses and I think it is worth a try, gets easier to use the more you get used to it. It's a thumbs up from me and I don't really use sleek products that often!
St Ives Apricot scrub is the best facial scrub going and has become a staple for my beautycare regime.
I started using this back in uni when my skin just broke out with horrid spots and then lots of blemishes, basically not a good look. After wasting money on so may expensive creams washes and scrubs a friend mantioned St Ives to me as her sister had used it with great results. At this point I would try anything so off to Superdrugs I go!
Anyway back then it cost about £4 I think it is now sold for about £4.99 so kind of mid range but if it works it is worth it! I have not paid full price for mine for about 2 years because I always buy a few when they are on offer so keep your eyes peeled.
I use the scrub for oily and blemish prone skin because that is exactly what I have, although for the sensitive among you there is a gentle version. I use on my face when I take a shower as I no longer use soap on my skin and unlike other face scrubs the granules in this can be felt! but they are not too harsh and they smell nice.
But be carefult when washing the scrub off because the odd pesky granule can go into your eye and irritate but this does not happen often and is easily washed out.
Talking results, after using this fora few months everyone noticed by sking was getting smoother and the blemishes less obvious, I have not looked back since, and would reccommend to any and everyone! My hubby even steals mine from the bathroom now
I came across this mascara and tried it only because my sister told me my staple mascara Magnifieyes by Rimmel was no longer being made (bad times) but me being the intelligent person I am always buy 2 when they are on offer so I had time to bide while I found a suitable alternative. So tip number one one always buy at least 2 of your favourite product when on offer!...but I digress lol!
What I look for in a mascara is not something that only volumises but also lengthems the lash opening up the whole eye. Now I am blessed with natually long lashes anyway but any eye can do with some glam.
Well I saw an advert for the new stilletto mascara and by God it seemed to fulfil my criteria so next stop was superdrug for the 2nd test...price. So I went over to the Maybelline area and found the Stilletto mascara and ching ching it was on introductory offer for a fiver!(usual price I believe is about 6.99) yay me! so I snapped one up in very black and was on my way.
When I tried it out the consistency is very nice similar to what I was used to in the Rimmel brand but the brush was wavy like an S shape??? here goes nothing I thought and began to apply. Results were great my lashes were not clumpy as is the effect with some volumising mascaras and they did look even longer! I find with this masacara I only need apply to the top lashes as with the bottom it looks a bit much.
I would say this was a great find even at full price however i will be looking out for offers when i will double up once again.
OOH and the bottle is in the cute shape of a stilleto!
I came across this toner by chance. In my endless quest to find the perfect toner for my oily skin I came across this, I actually went into boots to but the skin brightening toner which I had read about when I accidently knocked this one over, when I picked it up I decided to take a closer look.
The toners main ingredients are natural with Amazonian clay to absorb oil and rosemary for it's calming properties.
When you first pick this up you will notice the toner is actually separate with a clear green liquid sitting on top and a more cloudy green towards the bottle. This is actually the clay separating from the rest of the mixture and all it needs is a good shake before using.
The toner has a nice fresh smell and the clay does not bother me at all while using. I use this morning and evening after cleansing by just pouring this on a cotton pad and wiping on my face and neck.
After about 3 weeks of use now ! can say that this actually works! After wiping my face even after have used a regular cleanser this toner always picks up leftover grease and grime, I generally take my cleansing seriously so I think this speaks for the effectiveness of the toner as opposed to me being lazy with cleansing!
I can already see my face clearing up and my face is noticeably cool and calm after use. I would definitely recommend this to others. Natural and not too harsh and I would definitely say it is doing a good job of perfecting my pores. Best toner I accidently knocked over!
I was very happy when I started to see this product advertised especially because I don't like yogurt, as soon as a I saw it I thought finally a fridge snack for me! and to top it off it is actually quite healthy.
The strawberry flavor was the first one I tried but it does come in a range of flavors including apple, raspberry, original and blueberry I think I also recently saw a toffee flavor which I am yet to try.
The rice pudding comes in a handy pot which means you can put these in packed lunches or take them to work as a snack. They can be eaten cold or hot and the container once the cover is removed is safe to place directly in the microwave personally I prefer them cold unless it is freezing outside.
The strawberry flavor is my favorite and it is basically regular rice pudding with a strawberry syrup to mix in with it. it tastes great and it definitely comes in handy to fill those gaps where I otherwise would have reached for a chocolate bar!
price wise it is quite reasonable at about 55p-65p per pot, however you get more for your money if you buy in a supermarket because there will usually be an offer where you can get them like 4 for £2 and in this case you can buy a variety of flavors. They now also come in a multipack with 6 pots in each pack, again this provides value for money but you are restricted on flavor choices as the strawberry comes with original flavor and you have to like both to make it worth your while. since I like them all it makes no difference to me!
I am the type of person who will not be overly attentive to her nails but I'm a lady and like them to be somewhat presentable. I have lost count of the amount of times I have tried to grow my nails without success. In my latest attempt a few months ago I came cross Rimmel nail rescue and thought it was worth the try. it comes in a regular size bottle and is about £2-£3 which I thought was reasonable.
It is a 2 week treatment which involves coating your nails in one layer on the first day and then again on the second day, you leave this for a week and repeat on the second week after which you should see some results.
The issue with my nails are that they get brittle and dry and thin and tend to break so easily. I found that using this polish my nails instantly looked brighter which meant we were off to a good start. after the two weeks the difference was clear, I won't say I had miracle perfection nails but my nails were a lot stronger and grow better when I use this, if I go without it it for an extended period of time it is back to square one.
I also find that this is a good way to get nails back into shape after long periods of wearing nail polish or using false nails. The polish itself is also very easy to apply and not much mess for those in a rush.
I already love MAC products I find they are very good quality and come in a variety of shades to cater for everyone. As someone with annoyingly oily skin I am always on the lookout for something which can help my skin look cool and matte, enter MAC blotting powder!
After so long of carrying out blotting papers and shine control liquids this blotting powder came as a breath of fresh air. It costs around £16 for a compact in the classic black MAC style with a mirror and little pad to apply it. I bought it in deep dark and I find that this works for me but I prefer to use a powder brush to apply.
The blotting powder can be used on top of make up or on its own, it is very light and not heavy at all. I find that as soon as I put it on there is a big difference and others notice it too, my face is smooth and matte even if I have no other makeup on. The only issue which is more to do with my skin than anything else is that one use will not last the day and I will usually have to reapply, for that reason the blotting powder goes everywhere with me! This is definitely a keeper I would say to others who suffer from oily skin this is worth a try!
I decided to try this because I have always had issues with oily skin and find that scrubs work better for me.At around £3 per bottle it was a good price and so I thought it was worth a try, but I can't say that this product worked that well for me. I was expecting to be able to feel the ex foliating beads work on my skin more and in terms of outcomes I did not see any improvement on my oily skin or spots. The scrub comes in an upside down style bottle and with its watery consistency this meant every time you opened it unless you were careful way to much spilled out.
I used this scrub for about 2 weeks before reverting back to my usual routine, I don't think I will be using it again but the hubby has been using it and seems to like it but he does not have oily skin like do.
