This might be a bit late for this review but im a new member so reviewing as much as I can :P Playstation move is basically sony's attempt to include a proper motion controller like the wii and kinect. Is it able to stand out however?
It hands down beats the wii controller. It is so much more precise. I assume it is because of how it is detected. For example when comparing the tennis games. On the wii you can basically swing in a direction and that is where the ball will go. On the playstation it is far more complex and allows you to actually hit the ball in such a way as to induce a spin. This may not sound like much but in my opinion (having owned a wii, move and kinect) playstation move has by far the greatest precision of all 3. (It is also the only one I now still own).
I do not want to come across as a sony fan boy, but again having owned all the major competitors in this market I think I can make a fair comparison between them. In my honest opinion playstation move does have the greatest responsiveness of the 3. There is no lag between movement and it appearing on the screen. Although now the wii U has been released this is at the same level of the move.
Ouch. Yeah it is quite pricey. You need the camera and a move controller and the other controller (one with the analogue). Also if you want to experience the best of the move controller you will want to play with friends, so a minimum of two sets of controllers are most likely needed. It will probably be the most costly of the 3.
I quite like the feel. It is far smoother to hold than the very rectangular wii controller (obviously not as smooth as the controllerless kinect though haha). Overall it is easy to hold and not uncomfortable. The buttons are all easy to press so overall very good.
Yes there are a few, some silly things to make your controller look like a gun etc. I never purchased any of these because in all fairness they are not necessary. If you are interested in them go look them up on ebay and see if there is anything you like.
In my honest opinion the playstation move is far superior to the wii controller. Although given sony's fans are generally slightly older/serious than nintendo's they have not made that many games for move which is a shame. It is quite pricey but if you enjoy motion gaming give this a shot.
To clarify early on. I do not understand processors and complicated computer jargon. As such this review is more for how it handles with everyday situations etc.
I got my laptop from Argos and I must say for a laptop the price is very reasonable. It is not overly expensive (like a mac) but still manages to perform very well. If you are looking for a laptop that is good value for money then go for an acer laptop.
The speed of this laptop is very good, especially for the price. I was not expecting anything overly special when I purchased this but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I generally keep my laptop quite clean, i.e. dont completely fill the memory up to its maximum. It may be due to this that, for me, the laptop would always turn on relatively quickly without any problems. If you fill it up im not entirely sure how it would handle but generally the laptop is able to go quite fast (especially compared to my old desktop computer)
Even though the laptop is not really recommended for gaming purposes I never found a problem with it. I can regularly play games without any issues, usually via steam or onlive. Obviously there are better computers for gaming but do not think that it cannot play any. Unless you are a hardcore gamer and understand all the requirements (I personally dont) this is more than capable of handling most games.
So what is the battery life like? Again for the price of this machine it is quite a tolerable time. I am writing this review after owning it for a little over a year? The battery life on full lighting still lasts about 3 and a half hours. On the low light setting maybe a little over 4 hours? It is able to charge very quickly however which is always a bonus.
Obviously the memory could be larger. You could say that about virtually anything. I am able to fit all lecture notes, a few movies, an entire tv series (70+ episodes), my itunes, pictures etc onto it and still this has no effect on the laptops overall performance.
Personally I found that sound was the biggest issue for me. Dont misinterpret that. It is still very adequate I just wish at times it could go that little bit louder. But just stick in some headphones and the problem is gone.
The laptop is very light and can easily fit into my school bag. I have never had an issue with portability and it has never proven an issue for me. The laptop is also quite sturdy. I have dropped it on many occasions but the hard plastic shell is quite good at withstanding these hits.
This laptop is very good at simple everyday tasks, writing emailing etc. It is only when you begin to use it for more advanced and complicated things that it begins to struggle. If you have more money and are willing to spend more than go for a better laptop. If however you want good value for your money (and less of it) than this acer laptop is very ideal :)
The critically acclaimed tale series finally made its way over to the ps3 after quite a number of years. originally released for the wii this game has roughly 10 extra hours worth of gameplay as it continues after the original story concludes (I think the f in the title stands for future?)
Im a sucker for jrpg's and their story lines. Generally to me they are much better than western story lines. To alot of people they may not like the story line. It is all about the power of friendship basically. A group of friends discover a mysterious girl, Sophie, who has complete amnesia. They meet prince Richard and quickly become friends and swear they will always be. Eventually however Sophie dies and the main hero, Asbel, blames himself and swears to become a knight. Several years pass and he somehow meets Sophie again. They have other journeys until Richard turns on them and becomes evil and corrupt, and it is up to you to stop him! Bit of a cheesy story line but in my opinion is very effective. You really feel for the characters (I personally loved Pascal who is the super over energetic girl) 8/10 :) Also this will take you a long time to complete!
If the tales game can do one thing right it is the gameplay and the fighting system. You will see enemies walking about and you will decide if you want to bump into them and fight. Once you enter a fight you can move about within the fighting arena which is circle with a pretty large diameter. The battles are real time so it is not like oldschool final fantasy battle system where you take turns to attack. Instead each button corresponds to a certain attack which you would have preset and you go in time dodges correctly and try to kill that monster! Even feautres co op which is quite good fun.
This game does feature co-op but only in battles. Whilst moving through the world it is only one player but once you enter a battle your friends can join in (although personally my friends sucked compared to the AI :p) The battles are the exact same as on one player, but still a neat little feature.
Just like virtually all jrpg's there are lots of things to do aside from the main story line. There are obviously side missions which mostly revolving around getting things for people or killing certain monsters etc. If you are a completionist you can alsways be super brave and try to dualise everything! Dualising is basically combining items you have to make new ones and is how you make the strongest weapons. Whilst initially confusing it becomes incredibly addictive trying to make the best possible sword.
If you enjoy jrpg's and are looking for a long and entertaining story than this is more than worth the money. If you do not have the patience for 40+ hours than you should probably avoid this game.
So nintendo has finally releases its new console, which amazingly is actually able to keep up with ps3 and xbox graphics! Even if their hardware has been around a few years now ... well atleast nintendo has finally caught up. This is a review about the console and not any of its games.
THE NEW CONTROLLER!
It is impossible to talk about the wii u without mentioning this.It is the unique selling point, the gem that nintendo hope will destroy its competition, the kinect and playstation move. The screen is a relatively good size, if you have an ipad mini it is just a bit smaller than that.
One feature that would have been the holy grail of gaming if it was introduced 10 years earlier is the ability to simply switch from playing on the tv to playing on the controller. For me this is no longer a huge problem since I, and most people, now have a tv in their own room. The range is ok. You cant move to far away or else you simply lose connection but it can play through different rooms so not to bad.
You cannot use the controller for multiplayer. If you want to play with friends well sorry you dont get to use your fancy new controller its back to the original wii ones. There is also a pro controller, which is basically an xbox 360 controller except ... get ready for this ... the analogue on the right is above the buttons! Yeah ... original nintendo.
A big criticism I discovered is the battery life. It is awful. Maybe mine is slightly faulty? who knows but it physically couldn't last more than 3 hours.
Well other than the above the controller generally works quite well. There is no lag between it and input on the screen. It works and it is an innovative idea but I personally feel it will be like the wii. Amazing fun for one week and then will be forgotten about so I can play on the xbox and ps3.
Oh my god I dont know what nintendo were thinking. When you initially set it up there was a HUGE update which took a long time to finish. My friend works at HMV and someone actually returned it because they couldnt be bothered waiting (true story but I think that customer exaggerated a little bit). I hope they do something to change this. Other than that though its quite simple to actually set up.
There are a range of extra features you can use on the wii u . Using the camera in the controller you can have conversations with other users. Although you can do this on kinect. Just like other game consoles you have netflix and other tv services. It cannot play blu ray unfortunately.
It looks quite neat and is quite easy to navigate. There is a plaza type thing where you can see all your friends' mii's and what games they are playing etc. Sort of like the xbox way but alot more detailed. One problem with this is it can actually be quite slow. When you turn on the console you have to stare at a sign saying wii u (yes I know what I bought) for about 10 seconds. I may sound a bit pedantic but you know staring at it every time you turn it on can get quite annoying.
Yes its innovative, it finally has modern day graphics, it already has good games but is it able to compete with the ps3 and xbox. Financially im sure it will do fantastic, in fact I have no doubt it will sell remarkably. In my honest opinion however they have not yet utilised the new controller fully, which is its major selling point! I believe it will be just like the wii and everyone will love it for 2 weeks and then get bored and wonder why they bought it. The fact that you have to use the older controllers as well for 2 player games kind of seems like a slap in the face "Heres our new amazing controller ... but it is only for one person." Im sure they will change this eventually but it is something that should have been available from day 1. Is it worth the money? Yes if you like nintendo, if your more of an xbox fan wait until the new one of that comes out
So the critically acclaimed survival horror (If you can still call it that?) has released its sixth instalment. Inevitably it is going to be compared to its older brothers like the amazing resident evil 2 but how does it stand? Remarkably in my opinion quite well .. well better than 5 atleast.
There are 4 campaigns in total featuring some beloved old characters; Leon, Chris and Ada. It also introduces a new character Jake ( who CAPCOM repeatedly announced long before the games release that he is Wesker's son ... so that kind of destroyed the unveiling of that moment for me... good job guys) Their stories all interlink and they all meet up at different points and have to help eachother out. Overall the story is good fun if not a bit ridiculous at times (play Ada's campaign). Just like in previous instalments there is a virus that is changing people into demented beings, even Leon's story barely has zombies in it, and it is up to you to stand the man behind it using Jake, who is immune to the virus. There are some funny moments in it but ultimately nothing really special here.
Gone are the days where your characters cannot walk and shoot... Not going to lie its basically gears of war gameplay. In my opinion this actually removes some of the (if any) horror as now you can simply walk back and shoot your enemies. There is nothing special about the gameplay, a simple third person shooter now. This all seems a bit negative however it is good fun, especially mercenaries mode which is simply kill as many as you can in a time limit.
Very good. For an AAA game this is expected and CAPCOM delivers. All of the graphics look great especially for movie scenes. An odd thing, is that they seem to have spent soooo much time on making Leon's hair look pretty. Not a bad thing, just seems a bit odd as it is almost always had the best graphics in any clip. 5/5 here.
The relentless difficulty of the old resident evil's are almost back. I am a huge fan of hard games. This game could have been so great if not for one fact. Even on the hardest difficulty (which is hard you will die alot) once you reach a checkpoint, which are about 5 minutes apart, if you die you will respawn with full health. If I get to a checkpoint I want to respawn with the amount of health I originally had! There are hardly any healing items though which I personally loved.
To put it simply no. At the very start of Leon's campaign, and only his, it looks like they try to make a bit of a horror. There is the correct atmosphere, it's very tense and then you see your first zombie attack you in a lift! You fight for your life and you think okay here we go old resident evil is back (You better have read that in a dramatic way) ... then they forget all about it and Leon basically goes in guns a blazing.
A very fun mode CAPCOM has added is where you can invade other peoples game as a zombie. Sounds great! One problem though is you are usually very, and I mean VERY weak. You will die so easily and sometimes it can take you ages to even find the players. Fun but very hard. When you manage to get a kill though, it feels good. The other mode is mercenaries where you can team up with another player and try to kill 150 zombies in a certain time limit. Not much to say here, just a good bit of fun.
This may appear to be a highly negative review but I assure you it is a good game, maybe even a great game. It's just not a good resident evil. It is better then 5 so if you enjoyed that you will love this game.
Hitman: Absolution is a great game with ALOT of re playability. Story is engaging, with incredibly addictive gaemplay.
The gameplay is very easy to adjust to with no overly complicated controls. Of course the main point of the game is to kill people via stealthy means. However if this is not your kind of style feel free to go in guns a blazing. Police will come and try their best to kill you. Whilst this is amusing, especially when I had friends over, the game shows its true greatness in the different ways you can kill your target. For example do you simply shoot a man, poison his food, his drugs, push him to his death? These are some options for the first mission after the prologue. This allows great re playability as you can try and find all the ways to complete your mission. Overall a good 4.5/5
I will not ruin anything for you incase you do decide to get this game. Basically you are the great hitman number 47 and you decide to defend the life of a girl who you know nothing about, after one of your victims begs you to save her. You venture out to try and find out why the agency wants her dead and decide to go against them, even ripping out your iconic bar code on the back of your head.
There is no online gameplay. Instead what Hitman offers are contracts. This is where players make objectives for eachother to try and perform i.e. killing people in certain ways, in certain uniforms and so on. This proves truly addictive if not incredibly annoying if you find one you cannot complete. It is an innovative idea and very fun. You can only set your contracts if you can do them as well meaning none are impossible. Can you set one none of your friends can complete?
This game is as difficult as you want it to be. There are 5 difficulty modes, which really do make an impact on the difficulty. What really makes the game hard though is if you are a perfectionist like me. If the enemy even suspected me I would restart the checkpoint and keep trying until no one even noticed me. If however you dont mind being caught then it will lower the difficulty a little but still provide a challenge if you set the enemies to strong.
This is a great and fun game. The replayability makes it worth the money in my eyes and the online functions are innovative and provide a real challenge. If you are a perfectionist like myself get ready for ALOT of retrys as you will be caught! Goodbye and enjoy your hunt :)
The, "iPad mini" is an incredible little device, that is just as effective and useful as the larger more well known "iPad"
With its 7.9 inch screen the "iPad mini" is perfectly capable for my own needs. These include games, movies and taking notes for university. The keyboard is a sufficient size when held horizontally and allows me to type at the same speed as on a normal laptop, if not faster. Most of the time it will automatically change any errors in spelling, the only exception I found was when using highly scientific words such as thrombomodulin. Excluding this the keyboard and note taking capabilities far exceeded my expectations.
The speed of this tablet is very good. The internet speed and download speeds surprised me greatly. They are truly fantastic, far quicker than my own laptop. I do not own a regular "iPad" so I cannot compare the two, but I see no faults in the speed.
The 32 Gb model is more than enough for me. I have been able to fit all 800 of my songs onto it, 7 movies and about 3 big games (and about 10 mini ones). I would only recommend the 64 Gb model if you know you are going to need alot of space for ALOT of movies. If anything the smaller memory model would have been enough for me but it is always nice to know I can add whatever I want and not be concerned about how much memory it would consume.
What can I say here? This is incredibly easy to carry around with you. Gone are the days of carrying around my heavy laptop. It weighs almost nothing and at the same time is not too small or too large.
Due to the expensive costs of this tablet I have become very defensive around it, so its robustness and durability have not been truly tested. All I can say is I had it in my rock climbing bag which is full of metal and other potentially damaging objects, and all that happened was the cover got a little dirty. (I am very thankful it did not get covered in chalk though, that wouldn't have been good)
BUY A COVER
Of course all tablets will suffer from this. Your screen will get dirty! So go on ebay possibly and buy one of the covers that also acts as a screen cleaner and your screen will look as good as new. (Just dont let your greasy fingered friends touch it immediately after you clean it, you may resent them a little afterwards...)
This model is expensive at just over £300. and almost goes up to £400 if you choose the WI-FI and CELLULAR model (this allows internet access wherever you are). However in my honest opinion I think this is reasonable for the pure amount of extras' i.e. apps you can add onto it. With this 32 Gb model I will never run out of space for apps and as such I think this is a fantastic model that is worth the price.
I cannot review the instruction manual as I did not use it once. The set up is very easy as long as you have your itunes up to date.
So there you have it my review on the "iPad mini" 32Gb model I hope you have as much fun on yours as I have had on mine :).
