Why did I buy the product???
I'm always in a hurry last minute quickly spraying deodorant, throwing on my top and running to work only to discover I've horrible white marks all over the front when I arrive there, usually late :P anyway, I've tried a few brands before, all trusted brands like nivea and sure which have promised not to give me white marks and low and behold they don't work, nonetheless I'm not going to give u hope so when I seen this on offer at my local bodycare shop I was more than willing to give it a go. I dont remember exactly what I paid for it but I never usually spend more than £1.50 or there abouts on deodorant so i'm sure it was no more than that which is great as its such a large sized can! I have tried and loved many products from the garnier range including moisturisers and cosmetics but never deodorant, in fact I didn't even know it existed!
Was I impressed???
No, I wasn't at all impressed, this deodorant promises no white marks and in fact it gives me much much worse white marks than my usual choice. when I first used it excitedly, I luckyly was showering before bed and not before getting dressed for work. I shook the can and pressed the button only to discover horrible white sticky powdery substance flaking from my under arms, bearing in mind i wasn't holding it too close or spraying too much this was a disaster! I tried the other arm and got the same result, afterwards I had to rub it off completely and reapply my old brand!
Did I give it a second chance?
Yes!! of course I was going to give it the benefit of the doubt and try again the next day, the scent was gorgeous and very fresh, not over powering but definatly noticable which I love so it seemed a pity to waste it. The next day I tried shaking it whilst I was spraying it on (not easy) and holding it a little further back than I usually would. This helped but didn't solve the problem, I still got the build up of white powdwer litterally flaking off my underarms the moment it was applied, it felt heavy and wet, it doesn't dry instantly and quite frankly is a disaster
basically I cannot use this deodorant at all before I get dressed, being short for cash and not one to waste anything I only use it after showering before bed, I only give a quick spray but im not overly concerned if I have white marks on my nightsuit, which i do! I smell nice the next morning so it works effectively but I simply cant have the horid white mess!
Im giving this product a 2star rating because it des smell so nice and lasts quite a long time (not quite sure if it lasts the full 48 hours because generally speaking I dont go that long between washes)
I personally dont recommend it and cant for the life of me understand why it is advertised as being anti-white marks when its much worse than other brands which dont promise any such thing
overall, a big dissappointment!
Thanks for reading :)
I've read quite a few reviews for this product, all very positive, so i didn't hesitate to buy this when i ran low on my current concealer.
Boots regulary so offers, £5 of vouchers and more recently 3 for 2 over a range of products so look out for these! The concealer retails for £8 so with the offers it works out very cheap, all I can say is i'm glad I didn't pay £8 for this product!
I really like how this product works as my old concealer was liquid in a tube and quite hard to get it all out so alot ws wasted in the end, with the boots no.7 product its a lipstick style product and you simple take of the lid and screw up the stick, no mess, no hassle, it is great!
There was a few colours available but I went for quite a light shade so I could wear it alone as well as under makeup. The colour was a great match and matched my skin tone very well!
Why did I buy this product?
Let me just clarify, I didn't buy this product for bad acne or spotty skin, I have been very fortunate as in I have never had very bad skin, just the occasional spot during my teens. I rarely ever get spots now, i find i may get one or two if i dont treat my skin right and let my good skincare routine slip for a few days particularly at night if i dont take makeup off. The real reason I bought it was for the darkish circles under my eyes and been very pale skinned I get a tiny bit of redness either side of my nose, this isn't a problem when wearing makeup but I do like to go without sometimes so this is the main reason I bought no.7
Did it work?
The first problem I have with the product is how drying it is! I dont have dry skin, its fairly normal but if anything a little on the greasy side and this product dried it out instantly even after moisturising!! Under my eyes it was ok I suppose but when i put it near my nose/cheeks or forehead i looked like i have the most cracked dry skin, its horrible so I cant wear it without makeup over the top!
The second and biggest issue it how my skin deteriorated when using this product for one week! Almost instantly i broke out in spots all over the area i was applying it, this was a shock for me as I literally cant remember when i last had one spot never mind a face full! In addition to spotty skin it began to change in a way that is quite hard to explain, but even my boyfriend (who notices NOTHING i change about myself usually) commented on how my skin looked "holey" my skin aged about 20 years in one week and i was horrified! It was covered in tiny little pimples and holes it was disgraceful!
I dont believe it was a reaction i believe it was simply a bad product and I have stopped using it. I have almost got my skin back to normal now with lots of cleansing and moisturiser day and night but if I had of continued using it I don't think my skin would ever be the same again!
I would not recommend this product to anyone, Ive even used the cheapest brands on the markets and I would choose these over the no.7 one which is a big let down for me because up to now i've LOVED the no.7 collection
~~~Why did I buy batiste dry shampoo?~~~
I tend to have quite fine hair which gets greasy quite quickly and since I colour it and style it often I don't want to damage it any more by washing it every day, apart from that I really dont have the time to wash it everyday!
The bottle is nothing special but I was still attracted to buy it so I guess it's not that bad! Its basically a steel type can with a plastic lid. To dispense the shampoo you simple press the top which works similar to a hairspray can.
I think I pay in around £3 for this spray which is pretty reasonable when you compare it to other brands available such as tresemme. The only cheaper one I have found is the Superdrug own brand which costs a pound but do not waste your money on this!! ( a review is on its way!)
The dry shampoo comes out as a powdery spray, be careful not to hold it too close to your head and dont concentrate on one area, this product can leave quite visible white substance which is hard to disguise, particularly on dark hair. The brand have dealt with this problem by bringing out dry shampoo for coloured hair, my hair was copper for a while and Ive just recently dyed it a darkish warm brown and I buy the black dry shampoo which doesn't come out black as such, its perfect for darker hair such as my own, it doesn't leave any white marks, its perfect!!
Spray the product onto your hair evenly, once you've applied enough simple massage in and then brush through to remove excess. The powder works by absorbing the oils and leaving your hair looking refreshed, and it is a miracle worker!! I have heard of people applying some baby powder as it works it the same way, I've given this a go and it does work however it leaves your hair visibly white and I stopped doing this immediately when I started getting dandruff!! I've never had dandruff before and it is very embarrassing, so its back to dry shampoo for me, it doesn't dry out your scalp and has never give me dandruff. I use my dry shampoo all the time, even when I've just washed my hair as it gives my hair much needed volume, when its clean it doesn't take much to add texture and volume, just a quick spray!
~~~what don't I like about the product?~~~
There is only two disadvantages about this product, the first is the smell. It is so strong and overpowering, particularly with the original product. They have brought out different scents, all of which are not pleasant but some are more bearable than others. I guess you'll just have to try each and discover your own favourite.
The second disadvantage is how long the product lasts, I find it doesn't really go a long way, one can will only last me about two weeks although I do have quite long hair and use it regularly, the advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantages and it hasn't put me off buying the product yet!
Why did I buy these baby wipes?
I don't actually have any children but I do often find myself wandering down this section of boots or superdrug for products for myself! I love the Johnson range, its great value for money, kind to skin and you know nothings going to be loaded with unnecessary chemicals etc as it is a brand associated with babys and young children. I do wear quite a bit of makeup and dont want to waste my good cleansers taking it off so what I do is use a wipe to remove most of my makeup and the cleanser for the remainder, simply because I have been told by a beautician that face wipes dont remove all your makeup and it is left in your pores so using a cleanser specifically designed to remove makeup is much wiser
Usually Johnsons are quite inexpensive however I only buy these wipes when they're on offer ( mainly because there is much cheaper alternatives out there) but I would prefer to have the best. Any time I have picked up the wipes they have only cost me a £1 which is excellent value considering it it just a large packet and lasts me such a long time!
As I mentioned the packet is quite big and contains alot of wipes which is why I prefer it to small expensive packets of wipe designed specifically for removing makeup. The packet is pink and has a 'flap' you peel back to remove a wipe and it sticks back in place when you are done. I have found one's which have a more secure lid type feauture which actually clicks back in place which is beter as its more air tight and keeps the wipes moister for longer. ( having said this I never had a problem with dried up wipes so the sticky lid is no less effective)
The wipes are quite large, soft and very moist which I love and I dont have to scrub my face and use an unnecessary number of wipes to remove the most of my makeup. I did say I wear quite alot of makeup but I rarely have to reach for a second wipe when I'm using Johnsons. I even find I can remove eye makeup and waterproof mascara with ease which is so convenient as I'm not a fan of having the liquid cleanser and bits of cotton wool in my eyes! They don't irritate my skin or sting my eyes!
The wipes smell beautiful, very fresh and since they are so moist they leave my face a little wet so I feel I have a clean face after I use them (great for not making myself feel guilty after those late nights when you just cant bring your self to properly remove makeup and moisturise) I do aways moisturise afterwards however the wipes don't particulary dry out my skin, it feels soft after using them which I love!
I would definately recommend Johnstons baby wipes as an alternative to makeup remover wipes, you'll never look back!
Why did I chose Johnsons?
I chose this shower gel because I know and trust the brand which is usually associated with baby products but the main reason is it was only £1 for a huge bottle! This is great value in my opinion and well worth a try!
The bottle is as I said-huge! It is a great big, clear bottle which is fairly simple but this is what I expect, a simple package with a clean and simple body wash. I also love a clear bottle as you can see exactly how much is left, or how much you have used and this is one of the factors which impressed me, i've had this for a while now (and shower regularly!) and I haven't even used half the bottle! The bottle has a simple flip lid which is easy to open and close with slippy hands and you dont risk losing or standing on the lid!
First time using...
I wasn't disappointed when I first opened the bottle, the first thing I do by force of habit is squeeze the bottle and have a sniff, the fragrance was relatively light and very refreshing! It only took a little gel and it lathered up so nicely! It didn't irritate my skin at all, to be fair I don't have sensitive skin however I do have a habit of rushing the shaving my legs process and from time to time get shaving rash which can be painful for a week or so and sting incredibly when washing but this shower gel was so gentle I had no problems! I feel clean and fresh (as you would expect) after stepping out of the shower!
Why I bought it...
I remember using this foundation some years ago and I LOVED it! I remember loving how light and fresh it felt on my face and it gave me great coverage, but I also remember why I stopped using it-it gave me such dry flaky skin after prolonged use! Thinking back this is unusual as I tend to have oily skin not dry, so recently i decided to give it another go.
What did I think...
I picked this up at my local superdrug and it was relatively inexpensive compared to other foundations but you get what you pay for and I learnt this the hard way. This foundation isn't at all what I remember, it doesn't give great coverage (to be fair it only promises medium coverage) and feels very flaky on my skin. In terms of colour it is easy to get a good match as there is a wide variety of shades available so I was satisfied in that respect but it didn't blend well and looked a little patchy on my skin especially after a few hours, it took better to some parts than others, it didn't give me even complexion or a nice glow! It didn't take me long to realise this foundation wasn't the one for me so now I only use it if I just running to the shops and don't want to waste my good foundation or I use a little over the top of a different foundation to make it a little more matte. I guess I liked it in the past because I was young and inexperienced but i'm definitely going to stick to liquid foundation which i trust (see my review on No.7 I love it!)
I'm not as fussy about my shower gel as I am with some other beauty products and I will usually just buy whatever is on offer so when I seen this brand on offer for £1 I decided I would give it a go. I have used radox before but not this particular one, I have been happy with the results so I wasn't questioning if there was a reason for it to be reduced.
The Radox shower gel comes in a clear bottle which is great because you can see how much you have left (there's nothing worse than jumping in the shower and realising you've run out!) I like to see what colour the gel is too because for some reason I sometimes base my decision to buy on this- the creamy coloured gel got my approval!
The bottle also has a 'hook' or a handle which you turn up and allows you to hang the bottle in your shower, this is great especially when your nearing the end of the bottle as I spend far to much time shaking half empty bottles and patting the bottoms to get the last of whats left, with this it hangs upside down so its always ready to use. Its also quite clever in the fact that when I forget to close the cap it doesn't leak or drip!
When I used it...
The first thing I noticed about this shower gel is the strong scent, it smells almost creamy which I love and I knew it was going to last on my skin after leaving the shower. The only problem with it being strongly perfumed is I thought it may not be suitable for sensitive skin, which I admit I don't have but I found my suspicions to be true after shaving my legs and getting some shaving rash (I was clearly shaving in a hurry) For about a week the radox stung my legs badly so I reached for the alternative shower gel I have which is Johnston's which didn't sting at all.
A final note
In terms of being moisturising i cant comment on its effectiveness as I religiously apply lashes of moisturiser all over immediately after stepping out of the shower. I did enjoy using this shower gel and its luxorious smell would attract me to buying it again however I would be apprehensive if I had sensitive or irritable skin.
I was so excited when I came across this new product in my local superdrug when it was first introduced, I had seen advertisements in magazines and loved the effect and at the time it was the only one of its kind on the market so it was a little expensive (to me who swears by MUA £1 nail varnishes) but I thought it would be worth it.
I understand now its been out a while, as with most products cheaper versions are available in lots of different colours which is nice but I've only ever bought one, the Barry M original black. I was a little disappointing at the time because i felt limited as to what colours I could put under it, I wanted the best possible effect so I chose a hot pink colour
I must admit it took a while for me to perfect the art of applying this nail varnish, do not be fooled it is not as easy as it looks. I have a habit when applying varnish of stroking the brush across my nails a few times to spread the liquid evening however you mustn't do this, the cracked effect will only work if there is one layer. Also you have to get the thickness of that one layer perfect which is not easy either! If you do get it right I must say it looks fab but for me two out 3 times I just couldn't get it right!
A final note
For some reason my bottle went 'off' much quicker than any other nail varnish i've had before, I didn't ever leave the lid of and i didn't use it excessively so I don't know why it went sticky so quickly and I was disappointed. I did like the effect I got when I applied this nail varnish correctly but not enough to have went back for another bottle.
The nivea essentials range is one I trust and have invested in a number of their products recently to get the best possible results from using a number of products from the range at once. I invested in cleanser, a toner, a night cream and this daily essentials moisturising cream.
What should it do?
The nivea visage daily essentials daily moisturiser caught my eye as it claimed to be a lightweight, oil and shine free moisturiser with spf, this was perfect for me as I tend to have oily skin so I dont want anything too heavy which would clog my pores and leave me with the dreaded shiny forehead.
The small bottle stays true to the brand and is a fresh, clean white and blue. There is lots of clear, easy to read information about the product both on the box and the bottle stating everything you need to know. The bottle is 50ml so it is quite small but i've had mine for a few months now, use it every day and I have so much left so i'm very happy with this!
I cleaned my face the first morning with the cleanser and toner and applied the moisturiser sparingly over my face and neck. When applying the moisturiser for the first time I was pleasantly surprised with the fresh smell which wasn't too perfumed. It did feel nice and light as I expected and it didn't take too much which is why i still have so much left in the bottle.
what does it do?
The only negative I had about this product is I was left with the one thing I didn't want, the shiny forehead. I must admit it didn't feel greasy or heavy when i first applied it but throughout the day I've found myself in the mirror rubbing access of my face.
I've never had bad skin but this product doesn't work miracles even when used along side the other products in the range, luckily it doesn't promise anything too much so i'm not totally disappointed, it does live up to its fresh, clean lightly moisturing promise but thats all it does and I think when I run out I will test a different brand for better than average results
I am a big fan of the brand Nivea and have many products including face creams and cleansers so I thought I would be a fan of this lip balm also but I have to say I was a little disappointed. For the upkeep of lips this balm is fine but for intense moisture quickly for very dry or chapped lips I had to seek treatment elsewhere as Nivea just didn't perform the way I hoped it would.
This lip balm comes in a simple tube, just pop of the lid, screw up the stick and spread across your lips like a lip stick, I much prefer these to tins of lip balms which can get a little messy. It feels nice on the lips and has a nice, light, fresh smell. There is no over powering fragrance or colour added.
The packaging is what drew me to this lip balm in the first place, it was a light, fresh blue and white colour much like its other products. The handy little tube I would be able to use at any time made me want to purchase it
The nivea lip care is not any more expensive than other brands available but I do believe its over priced considering it doesn't work well, i'd much rather spend the same money on something that cures dry, chapped lips in a short period of time
This is a brand I was apprehensive about buying the first time I come across it but I couldn't help but notice how cheap the nail varnishes where- only one pound! I decided I would give it a go not expecting much so there was no way I could be disappointed, I didn't think at the time I would be going back every few weeks to grab every new colour introduced!!
Ther colours available are what caught my eye in the first place, they had such a wide variety of very 'in season' colours such as this seasons pastille lilac and mint greens, colours I've found are really only available by expensive brands like Barry M or nails inc.
Do they last?
Yes!! The first one I bought was a beautiful lilac colour which I was addicted to so I used it up fairly quickly but I do paint my nails every 2-3 days at the most so if a bottle of polish lasts for at least a few months i'm more than happy, the bigger the collection I gathered the longer the bottles lasted (obviously) so I feel they're such great value for money (you get what you pay for definately doesn't apply in this senario!!) I cant say how long the polish actually lasts on your nails because as I mentioned I do paint my nails almost every second day (not because I have to but because I get bored quickly and love a change!) but it doesn't chip straight away or the next day, which I have seen happen with more expensive brands so I'm very happy in that respect
The nail varnish suprised me in the fact that it wasn't 'watery', I dont have to reapply numerous coats to achieve the desired effect, by force of habit I always apply at least two coats and I dont have to apply any more than usual when using MUA nail varnish.
I love carmex and this handy little tube is my favourite in the range, its so simple to use just unscrew the lid squeeze a little out and spread over the lips, you dont need too much for it to work well.
I usually feel a little tingle (I guess this is the menthol) when I first apply carmex which i love as i feel it working instantly.
It is a thick, creamy type consistancy so doesn't absorb as well as some other brands but on the plus side you dont have to keep reapplying often
I dont mind the packaging for carmex even if the yellow is a little bright, it is easy to spot on this shelf amongst other brands and it is very unique, I havn't made the mistake of lifting the wrong brand believing it was carmex
value for money
carmex is a great invention and works so well for me, i usually have quite dry lips and regulary use different products to find the most effective. Carmex is not over priced compared to other similar brands, it is fairly average and works better than any other in my opinion. It lasts for a great length of time as such a little bit goes a long way, overall it is very good value for money and well worth investing in
I have been using this fake tan for years and I swear by it!
Does it last?
I'm a self-confessed tan-aholic and I use so much but this tan lasts for months and months even if I use it every day!! I have tried more expensive brands but I find they run out too quickly and I cant afford to keep buying them.
Where can I get it?
The only two places i'm able to buy this tan is 'Semi-Chem' and 'bodycare' for just £2.99, I havn't found it it boots and online it does come up more expensive (still a bargain at eight or nine pounds)
I love the shade of St Moriz it has got a green tint to avoid it looking orange but doesn't make your skin green (obviously) it can leave the mitt green after a while so I recommend to change the mitt regularly. It is deep brown so I feel it is one of the most natural looking brands available! There is the original and the darker so maybe start with the original if your shy of looking too dark
It's easy to apply and spreads nicely, remember to use a tanning mitt i wouldn't try to apply this with your hands!! It is a mousse which dries in quite quickly so I tend to put a good few pumps on the mitt and spread it quickly all over.
it is instant so you can see where you're applying it but it does also develop so it gets a little darker after several hours, I tend to do it the night before then shower the next morning to wash away excess, which there does be alot off so remember this! Only problem is it takes a while to dry in and can transfer onto bedsheets!
St Moriz does have a slight tan smell but not anywhere near as strong as other brands I have used so I dont feel this is a drawback.
the only negative points I have (which I overlook because I love it so much) is that it does take quite a while to remove if you apply alot like me, it can take alot of exfoliating and moisturising, it doesn't fade nicely
Value for money
This foundation is by far the best I have used in a long time and i've tried almost every brand available in boots! The most expensive foundation I've bought is the double-wear by Estée Lauder which was £25 and doesn't compare to this inexpensive boots No.7 which is even better value when you get it with your '£5 off No.7' vouchers which boots give out from time to time!
I am very fussy with my foundation as I want something which gives ultimate coverage but I dont something which feels too heavy on my face. With this brand a little bit goes a long way and I haven't had to buy concealer since I started using beautifully matte! I feels like your not wearing anything on your face, I dont know how something that gives such great coverage can feel so comfortable!!
The colour I chose (blonde) is perfect for me, I've found it difficult to find something which isn't either too white or too orange, this foundation has a great olive tone which is so much more natural looking! There was a great variety to chose from so I guess it was luck (and practice) which allowed me to chose the perfect match first time
I put it on in the morning with a little loose powder over the top (which isn't nesseccary but its just a force of habit with somewhat oily skin) and i literally dont have to touch up the entire day. I do spend some time applying my makeup and take care in doing so, I use a foundation brush always, and begin in the centre of my face working out wards, this is a tip I picked up years ago when I worked at a Benefit Makeup counter as a beauty consultant and I have never looked back!
Another fabulous factor is the intelligant bottle, it is clear so you can see whats left inside and as you pump it out the inside pushes up so you literally get every last bit out of the bottle you dont have to cut the bottom off to find lots left!
I LOVE beautifully matte I could rave on all day about how great it is, I used to be unsure about boots own brand products but do not knock this foundation until you try it!
