I was a great believer in just buy cheap razors because they all do the same job. However i realised that i bought 8 razors for £1.00 and each razor lasted 4 shaves, so in a month i was spending £2.00 which for quite a while i thought thats fine, cheaper than chips. Then i bought a gillette fushion razor and i am into my second month of using it and the original blade is still fine and working as good as the day i first used it, much to my suprise. So basically for £5.00 i have got a razor with 2 spare blades and its worked out much much cheaper.
But money aside, buying cheap razors was pretty uncomfortable and didnt work all that great and took twice as long because the blades were so poor, so this razor is a breath of fresh air!
The shave is so smooth and the design of the razor is very clever with the flexible head to help guide around your face much easier (so yoga not required to bend your arm into almost impossible positions to reach those harder to reach areas on your face...or maybe thats just me?) But never the less this is a very well designed razor!
Okay so pretty bad ratings for cross country trains and i have to say i am not completely sure why!? I have used this train company so many times i have lost count and not just for short journeys but for journeys from newcastle to basingstoke and that is around 6 hours on the train and have been doing this for about 3 year. I have to say i think as far as trains go cross country leads the way, and below i will tell you how to get the best out of this train company (also known as HOW TO SAVE MONEY!).
I have had delays with this train but you get that with all trains. They DO over crowd there trains which are both big faults but every train company has this problem so you kind of have to focus of the positives. When me and my fiance were delayed at christmas for over an hour i complained and they gave me a full refund (as per their own policy but it was very quickly resolved) so no real issue there, i got a free journey! The staff are mostly very good and we mix up travelling first class (read below on how i do this) and standard class, and either way the staff are 90% good. So i will review both standard and first class (and remember to read below on how to save money when buying tickets).
Standard class -
Okay so i mostly travel with standard class and the seat room is like any other train company, not amazing but not too bad. The luggage racks are quite small considering the amount of people in the carriage and it can be very annoying but the key is if you cant get your bag on the rack wait till everyone is stood up to get off there stop and hope that someone moves a bag! There is little staff involved in standard class but the trolley service is a good little feature and the staff are very polite and always up for a laugh. The air conditioning is not amazing but again its no better or worse than any other train company.
First class -
So in first class you get the obvious .. A member of staff asking every 10 minutes if you are all right and you also get complimentary hot and cold drinks and also food. The hot food really is not that good but not much complimentary food is. The biscuits and crisps are good quality and the hot drinks are starbucks, so its not all bad. The leg room is very good and the luggage space is the same as standard but the majority of people in first class do not have big luggage bags. Okay so ... lets see how to save money.
Saving money with cross country trains.
Okay so cross country trains may not be perfect and i think i would agree more with the other reviews if i was paying the same amount of money as them, however using such a simple trick i pay a huge amount less.
If you know where you are travelling well in advance, then simply book as soon as possible, you can book 3 months in advance. Also always look at 2 single tickets before looking at a return ticket, it is often cheaper and in my experience i have found it is always cheaper. For an example, i used to travel from newcastle to basingstoke with a return ticket and i bought it a few days before i travelled and it cost me £116.00.
When i now buy me and my fiance a ticket here is what i do ...
I buy between 1 and 3 month before i travel (because i know the exact dates i am travelling), i book 2 singles to basingstoke from newcastle and 2 singles from basingstoke to newcastle with my dates. Some times first class tickets are available IF you book literally 3 month ahead and you can buy a first class ticket for £32.00 (basingstoke to newcastle), so its worth trying the way i do it.
If you travel more than 3 times a year and spend more than £200 on travel then it is also work looking at getting some form of rail card, there is different ones available but most save you 1/3 on train fare.
So to sum up on how to save money with cross country...
If you know your dates of travel then book one to three months in advance.
Look at 2 singles as well as a return to see what is cheaper.
If your timing is flexible look at different times in the day as off peak is always cheaper.
Follow these tips and your savings could be huge. Where i used to pay £116.00 for just myself from newcastle to basingstoke, following the above steps i now book tickets for me and my fiance and with at least first class one way (sometimes both ways) the total is £135.00, so obviously i now pay £67.50 instead of £116.00.
So yes this train company like all of them do charge far too much for travel, so follow my above steps and save yourself some money and i am sure you will agree that for the price you are then paying you get a good service and you do not pay extortionate prices!
Okay so i watched the first series of ross kemp in afghanistan religiously. I have a few friends out in afghanistan so i already know a fair share of stories regarding afghanistan so i did not expect this series to tell me much more than i already knew and i was very surprised. Having seen quite a number of documentaries about afghanistan i thought it would be another almost properganda television show justifying the afghanistan war and how life is okay out there and everything is rosie, i was sick of watching them stories and then hearing the truth off my mates.
So when ross kemp in afghanistan started i gave it a chance and all i can say is wow. A programme that not only shows positives but also negatives, and for once the nation woke up and realised that these soldiers do not rely upon our government to help them they simply rely upon each other.
When ross kemp returned to afghanistan he spent the majority of his time in the most dangerous warzone of afghanistan, in helmand provence. More soldiers have been killed here than any other part of the country and ross kemp wanted to go there and experience what the soldiers go through on a day to day basis. The soldiers speak nothing but the truth and they give a whole new perspective to what happens out there. The series takes you out on missions with the units as they either patrol or are on missions. The series address a soldiers death and the impact not only on his family but other soldiers.
In terms of what action you will get, there is so many action shots and ross himself is in the line of fire and quite often the camera man has to jump for cover so whilst its an informative programme there is certainly not any lack of action, with cameos from the air force also showing there power.
This series did not get massive acclaim by luck, it is an honest very insightful look at the soldiers in afghanistan and it is literally 50% hosting by ross kemp and 50% interaction from soldiers, missions and ross kemp dodging bullets.
Would recommend to absolutely everyone. Great series!
Okay so after days on end of looking for a new phone i came acorss the panasonic kx and i must admit even though i read the specs on it, it looked good so i got it. This is the biggest mistake to make when purchasing technology, if it looks way better than its competitors then its probably had less time spent on actually making it a good peice of equipment and if it looks good and works well then you need a pat on the back!
When it arrived i was surprised, most phones come with about 10 metres of wire which is so annoying when in truth the base to the phone socket is no more than 2 foot, however this phone was practical and that was my first positive. Its true that it does look good and its got clever little features which are handy, like the little grip pad on the back of the phone to help grip onto your shoulder if both your hands are occupied. Also the high quality speaker phone which unlike my past phones you can actually put this phone on the counter and walk 5 or 6 metres from it and still be heard. The screen is a good size and the display is good font and easy to understand with a nice big clock on display.
Features within the phone are many. You get an answering machine which unfortunately when it comes to recording your own leave a message has terrible quality, its very sensitive and takes so many attempts to perfect so the sounds not too loud or fuzzy, so that is a negative, but the default answering machine voice is clear and precise and the quality of the actual message is great. The base has playback buttons and a bright red light flashes when you have a new message. You can have 20 minutes worth of messages before you need to delete which is generous (and anyone who leaves a message longer than that obviously didnt hear you say you are not home leave a message after the beep!)
Quite importantly you can save money with this phone as well thanks to the missed call feature, simply look at the screen and if there is a phone symbol with an arrow by it, press the left arrow on your phone and it shows you who called, thus saving ringing 1471. There is a large capacity for contacts and a built in caller display. Enter the contacts names on one phone and use the feature in the phone to transfer those contacts to the other phone, which saves the nightmare of adding the same people 2, 3 or 4 times.
The quality of the phone is brilliant, very clear and it also kills backround noise. For instance my fiance rang me when i was in a supermarket and she thought i was still in the office because there was no backround noise, however i was obviously being nearly deafended by the hundreds of people pushing past me! So that is another great feature to this phone.
A fault would be i guess a little trivial but the ringtones are simply just bad. Most are annoying, some are too short so i opted for a simple ring ring, which i guess is probably the better option anyway but i was left very disappointed with the poor quality of ringtone.
The idle time is great on this phone, probably takes an hour or two to fully charge and can then be left off the charger for around 300 hours without much use, and probably 150 hours with general use, id say even more, that is from personal experience.
The buttons are nice and big and they light up with an orange glow, and another clever feature is when it lights up with a phone call the light flickers, which is useful.
To sum up, this phone is the best landline phone i have ever bought and i would recommend it to anyone, its features are all good and it doesnt fall short of anything other than purhaps the poor selection of ringtones (maybe im picky) but in general this phone is very good and very well priced for what you get.
Okay so these guitars are actually out of production in many countries and incredibly underrated in EVERY country. They are a protocol from esp and the high price of them was probably the demise but it really shouldnt have been. Whilst you can still buy these guitars they are so hard to find that you are going to be paying more than you would think a guitar like this is worth. However that is incorrect. This is a beautiful guitar and i would easily recommend it to anyone. It is light and has great tone and in all truth you can just about play any style of music on this guitar. Like its fathers the ESP it is more commonly associated with hard rock however this is a misjudgement, i play blues, punk, chords and metal on this guitar and it sounds simply great. The shape is pretty standard but the bridge and pick ups compliment the layout of the guitar and the jet black colour (in this instance) excellently. I dont need to add much to the fact its a floyd rose so as you would expect the fret board and neck are to the usual high standard.
From personal use some of my other guitars lose there tone from years of me hammering them along to metallica and co and all the down tuning i have threw at them over the years has probably made there tone struggle today however this guitar just bounces straight back. I played a set with 6 songs all in different tuning and i criminally do this often but this guitar is very good and handles my erratic tuning displays like its a normal thing to do. So thats looks and durability covered now lets look at the little details that is important when buying a guitar.
Yes, you are paying a lot for this guitar, there is no escaping that. It is not a guitar for beginners (well any guitar can be used by anyone, but this wouldnt be ideal for a beginner) this guitar is the real deal and it is a snippet of the price of guitars just as good as this one. You are looking at £400 + for this guitar and in truth if you can pay around £400 you have a bargain because to get a guitar as good as this one you would easily have to double that price tag. The pick ups are very easy to remove (as ever, buy EMG's) and you are on the track to perfection.
Keep in mind when buying a guitar that the guitar produces 30% of the sound and the amp 70%, so ultimately a larger investment should go into a quality amp (line 6 for me) however, that 30% counts so if you are looking for a guitar that is 30% out of 30% then simply look no further.
All that remains to say is go buy or start saving!
Okay so the story of pixar is one of my favourite reads. John lassiteur was a young apprentice at disney and his futuristic ideas did not match the old conventional ones of the disney creative producers. John wanted to make a film purely with computer graphics and disney said this isnt possible and it would hurt animation. Disney hand draw all their scenes and characters and use the old draw the characters by the edge of the paper and flick through for action shots. John wanted to try something completely different and use computer graphics so disney actually fired him. He kept dreaming of making a film with computer graphics and the co-founder of apple computers liked his ideas and they formed a partnership. After a few years of just not making the computer graphics work and not gaining enough interest, the financing was running short and they faced closing so they appealed to disney to help them and disney refused. Luckily for john though some investors liked his ideas and bought into his company, which he added very talented friends on the creative side and they came up with a plot of toys that come to life. There was huge interest in the movie and the technology kept improving to the point they had a perfect storyline and the computer graphics to match. They formed the company 'Pixar' and released toy story.
When toy story came out people could not believe the graphics (CGI) on display and the buzz around pixar was massive. So much so that disney offered pixar a percentage into the company so that disney could own the rights to pixar films, of course...they said no. Disney struggled to create films after toy story because people were now interested in CGI animation and fell out of love with disneys hand drawn characters, so in a desperate attempt disney starting releasing sequels to there huge films like pochahontus and mulan, which all failed. The pressure was then on Pixar to once again show disney how it is done and they released toy story 2, which was bigger than the first film and the highest grossing film of the year. Pixar then sold there CGI technology which just about every film today uses. Disney conceeded that without pixar they would not survive so they worked hard on forming a partnership with pixar which is why today disneypixar exists!
Toy story 3 was often discussed because pixar do not release films because it is simply expected from them. But they decided to do it only when they had the original voices signed up for the film.
This film is simply GENIUS. Not only is it a great storyline with the typical slapstick moments for the kids to laugh at and the emotional rollercoaster for the adults to enjoy, the new characters are perfectly fitted to the film. The concept of the film is that these toys have spent 18 years together and they are no longer wanted by the now grown up andy and there is scenes which made tens of people cry in the cinema and once you watch this film you will also be holding back the tears. This film symbolises so much more than just an animated film. The original came out in 1995 and back then i was a kid, you were a kid or your child was 5 and loved this film so much they would watch it over and over. Toy story 3 shows how things change over the years and it is of little surprise to me that so many people were in floods of tears at the end of the film. However the good news is there is talks of toy story 4! But this film is honestly just so amazing and if you like toy story you will not be disappointed and even if you arent a fan of the previous 2 toy story films then this could be the one that changes your mind about one of the most iconic animated films of all time.
The storyline follows the toys being sent to a day care centre where they meet new toys, but these toys are deceptive and not nice at all so the mission is simple...Get out of there! There is the typical funny quirks of pixars writers and great action for the kids to enjoy and it all leads up to the heartbreaking end. The new characters are a great addition to all the old characters and i have to give a special mention to ken & barbie who are by far the best sub story line in the film.
To sum up this film, if you have not seen it then you will not be wasting one penny by buying this film, one of the greatest companies in pixar with one of the most brilliant and iconic films of all time!
This is not only an attractive guitar but it sounds great too. Whilst yes its true to always be very wary of guitars attached to guitarists names because you can find yourself sometimes paying £100 simply for the persons name. This is a medium weight guitar and its shape does not make playing difficult like many of the pointy guitars. ESP are one of the best guitar makers and i own one myself and can safely say you are paying for a very reliable guitar. This guitar is designed for heavy metal, plain and simple, alexi is from children of bodom and they usually use C# tuning so its important if that is your style of music to have a guitar which can tune down and still sound good, and with this guitar you absolutely have that! So to sum up this is a perfect guitar for hard rock and metal lovers, other than that you may want to look elsewhere but nevertheless it looks good!
Okay so the much debated money in football. When talking about money in football everyone focuses on how much money a footballer earns. You need to actually break this down and look at facts. Top players today get £200,000 a week, which is obviously pathetic, i dont argue with that. Top teams pay around £30million a year in wages, which is again pathetic. Top players can get £8 million a year with sponsors on top of that, which again is pathetic.
Lets actually look at a personal players income. Lets say you are on £200,000 a week, you are world class, you are in the newspapers every week when you are seen with a girl or seen with your family on a beach and everyone knows you, your sponsors are huge and you have so many celeb friends you have lost count. So lets take that all away, you are world class but you earn lets say £5,000 a week. Okay...
Your club will charge £40 for a shirt, £35 for a ticket to the match or £500 for a season. Your club will have your face or memberships, websites, dvd's and so on but you earn £5,000 a week which is £180,000 a year with tax off. Your club sells 1 million shirts with your name on it world wide, thats £40 million income. Your club will make about £15 million on tickets to watch you play, and probably another few million on merchandise and programmes from match day. Your club will make £20 million worldwide for magazine and newspaper stories, mostly regarding yourself. Your club could make £90 million for staying in the premiership and possibly up to £150 million for 4 other trophies and TV rights.
This is potenial earnings of your football club is £315 million, with a range of £130 million to £400 million. However, you earn £5,000 a week which is around £180,000 a year with tax off. Your team mates are on a bit less than you, infact they get £160,000 a year. This is about £3.5 million a year for a squad of 21 players. This means your club makes a profit of at least £127 million up to £397 million.
Now knowing that, explain why footballers should not get the wages they do. I agree the money they get is pathetic when the lads in the army get £13,000 a year and police get under £20,000 a year. However explain why footballers should do the hard work for the fat cats who will still charge the same prices to get richer and richer.
Footballers wages are in accordance to the club and it is the greed of the club that make the wages so high, but players are in the line of fire and very seldom the club.
Also things to consider are that being a footballer throws you into the limelight and your life is scrutinised by the public and that is something that most people would hate but footballers have no choice. Also, their careers are high risk in the sense a bad enough injury and that will be it, so they have to make as much money as possible whilst they can.
Whilst i never ever defend footballers wages and say they are correct, you have to look at the actual truth behind the pay cheque, if they did not get the money the chairman would be 20 times richer.
But before you read about a footballers wage and think thats disgusting just remember that when you and most people you know put the lottery on yet dont pass judgement on that think about how it is the same concept, people say footballers get paid huge amounts of money for doing something pointless, well the lottery can make people millionaires and all they have done to deserve it is stand 2 minutes in a queue.
The recent euromillions winner won £164 million, so justify that? By standing in a queue these 2 people won an amount of money that around 1 million people in the uk would work all year for added together...yet this is acceptable because most people who judge footballers also bought a euromillions ticket. This is very indifferent yet it is not deemed wrong.
So next time you read the newspaper and see how much money a footballer is earning, keep in mind they train 5 days a week, play 1 day and travel all over the uk and europe and dont get to spend a great deal of time with family...If they werent earning that money a man in a suit who watches the game drinking champagne would have £5 million more quid in his pocket at the end of the season.
Okay so the concept of this film is pretty simple. A lover of the outdoors and adventure exploring the desert and loves rock climbing, falls down a gorge and gets stuck, sound boring? Well its absolutely not. This is a very clever thriller and is brilliantly wrote. The biggest point this film makes is how many of us, if we're going for a bike ride or a hike or even just a leisurely stroll do not actually tell people exactly WHERE we are going? This film shows how dangerous this can be. James franco decides to just wake up one morning and go exploring without telling anyone where he is going or infact that is he going, so the concept of this film is how can you find someone when you dont know they're missing?
Upon going out into the wild he gets himself into agonising trouble and where most friends and family know that when you dont call back that night or answer the phone till morning its because you said you were going camping or away for the weekend, but what happens when you havent told anyone you have plans or where you are going? You can not hold on to the hope that people will realise you are missing when you are in conditions where survival beyond 2 or 3 days would be nothing short of amazing.
James franco is brilliant in this role as the film is solely based around him in the gorge. He plays a character in a film without a big storyline and a mass amount of other characters to help the story. The whole film will put the chills into anyone who enjoys hiking and those who dont will probably find another excuse to not do so! This film is a must see!
Okay so i am a great fan of adam sandler but unfortunately his last few films have not been very good so when i was about to watch this film i really was not expecting too much from it. However, if you are like me and thought the same please give this one a chance, its hilarious! From the start of the film to the end i was laughing like i was watching a 90's adam sandler film. His usual sarcastic and crude sense of humour returns in this film and the whole cast compliment this film excellently. This film, unlike sandlers last 3 or 4, actually took me back to the waterboy era of films, where it looked as though adam sandler had a lot of fun making the film and that is absolutely his key to success. To sum up, this film will have you laughing your socks off and is absolutely worth a watch!
Saving private ryan is one of the greatest war films with one of the most wonderfully shot scenes you will ever see (omaha beach). The whole cast works perfectly in this film and there is not one weak link which is incredibly rare in films. From start to finish this film is superior to so many war films and tom hanks rightfully won so many accolades for his performance as captain john miller. The film is true to world war 2 and where many films are very innacurate, saving private ryan sticks true to the horror of the great war and worked closely with survivors so that the film would not be another film people criticise. From the soundtrack to make up to direction and actors, everything about this film is amazing and if you have not seen this then you must buy it right now! One of the greatest films ever made.
I love the book and i love the movie, so naturally i love the album! Eddie vedder obviously more famous for being the lead singer from pearl jam and i thought he was quite a strange choice for the soundtrack to this film but i was wrong. His voice is perfect, the music fits the film perfectly. The songs are brilliant and so easy to listen to and very well wrote. Eddie vedder has always been very good (thats obvious, he is in pearl jam!) But this album really takes him back to his early days and this very little known album is an absolute gem and deffinately an album for any pearl jam fans or any fans of easy listening music. Hard sun is the best song on the album by far and if you see the movie it fits perfectly to the scene. To sum up this is a great album and i would recommend it to anyone.
I have used this camera at three rock/metal gigs in the middle of all the crazy people who run in to each other. The camera is very durable and whilst being bumped around the place the clever motion features mean that i get a great quality picture every time. The zoom is brilliant on this phone and unlike many other camera's in this price bracket, this camera keeps its definition when zoomed. At first it is quite difficult to figure out the camera as there is so many different things you can do it with it, however a bit of patience and its easy to use once you know how. The memory is poor for the high quality pictures, however its not the end of the world as the camera has removable storage and you can increase the memory significantly with an SDHC card (i recommend an 8gig one, will give you 10,000 pictures) All in all, this is an affordable and great camera!
This phone is a dream. Okay so obviously the HTC desire and the iphone leads the way but if you dont like paying an insane price for a device that makes a phone call but you do like the features of the stupidly expensive phones then by all means the HTC Wildfire is for you. The phone has a good memory so you can even double it up as an ipod, it works on an sdhc card (up to 32gigs) So you can even store movies on your phone. There is so many features and the best of all would be the android market which opens the door to thousands more features. The phone has a large screen which is great for watching the built in youtube videos or the movies you shoot on the high quality camera. You can sync to your social networking sites and get updates as they happen. There is other syncing features like your email accounts. There is simply just to many great things to say about this phone.
I have tried many antiperspirants and almost all at one point failed. Any antiperspirant works for general day to day stuff like going shopping or general work, however working in a kitchen i found it difficult to find an antiperspirant that worked through-out the day and found myself re-applying and running out rather quickly. I then came across Mitchum and it works so well! The only problem with mitchum is that it takes a little while to dry, which can be very annoying, however it lasts all day and although it is not cheap there is usually an offer on every month or so of 'buy 2 for £3.50' which is indeed cheap for a product that (if applied properly) can last up to a couple of month! It has a nice smell to it also but most importantly...IT WORKS!!! so yes, if you have struggled to find a reliable antiperspirant, look no further!
