I acquired this soap from my 87 year old mother-inlaw. She resides in an old people's home and every year at Christmas - receives copious amounts of toiletries and chocolates. I must admit though that it is not easy to choose an innovative or useful gift for a lady this age. My husband and I have bought her numerous cardigans from the Wool Shop. She will not entertain synthetic fibres, only 100% wool, she puts on her glasses with the thickest pair of lens to check that the label has the 'wool' symbol on it. The problem is though - is that most of the 100% wool cardigans end up in the laundry at the care home, and these need to be hand-washed. Unfortunately 3 of them had shrunk. Come January time, she tends to offload what she doesn't want on to me. She hates her room cluttered, and despises carrier bags lying around. I was sceptical about the Yardley's English Rose Soap as I had this preconception in my mind that I would end up smelling like an old lady if I were to use it. I can't help associating Lavender with the Yardley brand, and I can recall this lady at Church reeking of it when I was younger. I thought about delegating it to the charity box along with my own unwanted Christmas gifts but I had opened it as I was curious about what it looked like. Yardley English Rose Soap out of the tin: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I do tend to love soap that is etched with Logo's and this did. The words 'YARDLEY, London' are deeply etched into the soap, and the word 'London' pleasantly reminded me of how English this product is. I would describe the colour of the soap as being baby pink which matched its subtle fragrance. What's on the label? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ENGLISH ROSE, LUXURY SOAP. Yardley's classic English Rose is an evocative light, fresh, floral fragrance. Triple milled for a luxurious lather. Yardley London Luxury Soap leaves your skin feeling clean, soft and delicately fragranced. What did it small like? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I expected the smell to be really overpowering as I have found Yardley's products to have a very strong aroma. However - I was very surprised to find how subtle the fragrance was which was mildly floral and fresh. Apparently - it contains a combined aroma of neroli, camomile, jasmine, rose petals, amber and sandalwood. As I had opened it - I decided to use it and the first time I used it in the bath, it had a luxurious feel to it and it lathered up really nicely. I suffer from dry skin and normally stay clear of fragranced soap - hence I was mindful of the fact that I may have a bit of a flare up with this soap. However, and surprisingly - my skin was fine afterwards and I have been using it ever since. This is probably due to the fact that it contains camomile which has soothing properties. From my experience of using this soap I think that Yardley have reinvented their fragrance as this soap is much lighter, more subtle, and fresher. Which I feel has made this product more desirable to the younger market than previously. Overall - ~~~~~ I feel that this soap is and does what it says on the tin. It doesn't become slimy and sludgy after use and leave all soap residue in the soap dish. I may even purchase the next one. The BONUS for me as well is the fact that both my husband and teenager son have stayed clear of it because it is pink!
I had to attend business meeting in Down in Hampshire, (I live in the North, approximately 90 miles away) but on the previous day I had desperately tried to get an emergency appointment with my dentist that I could attend on the way home from work on that day. The dentist could not fit me in and I felt this rush of panic and anxiety about having to attend the meeting with a painful tooth. Unfortunately - during my lunch hour at work, I had bitten on an orange pip by mistake and my filling dropped out. It was one of my front teeth and it had a gaping hole in it. Everytime I spoke I could feel cold air rush up it and it was painful. The only way it didn't hurt was to speak with my lips slightly closed on that side. I didn't speak very much that night as I was anxious about the meeting the next day and my tooth was aching which was a constant reminder to me of how stupid I may look in the meeting. I normally straighten my hair before leaving for work but I didn't exactly feel very attractive like this and felt goofy which was odd. I didn't bother with breakfast, for obvious reasons and sipped on a small carton of orange juice through a straw as I set off in my car. Half-an-hour into the journey - the aching in my tooth seemed more intense. I spotted a pharmacy on this parade of shops so I pulled up went inside and asked them for something that would relieve the pain. The pharmacist asked me what they were for and I told him about my missing filling . He went behind the counter and produced this temporary filling (Safe & Sound). I was amazed as I didn't know that something like this existed. I was so releived about it that I almost forgot my tablets for my pain. I applied the filling in the car. It was quite simple to use despite me being all sweaty and fumbly. The filling was pliable - a bit like blu-tack - hence it was not mess at all. The filling did feel a bit strange for a while, as it was not easy to acheive a smooth finish and I didn't help by having the urge now and then to keep touching it with my tongue. But at least I felt confident about talking again and the aching subsided too. It is only a temporary filling but I had mine in for several weeks with no signs of it dropping out. I was so grateful for this product. I have purchased a spare one and left in the glove compartment just in case I ever have the same problem . I highly recommend this. Probably worth packing in your suitcase as well.
I purchased these Converse shoes for my 20 year-old son as he absolutely loves shoes and Converse is one of his favourite brands. He has at least 14 pairs of various Converse shoes under his bed! plus a few pairs of his 2 other favourite brands. He has also bought plain white baseball boots and pumps and created his own designs on them with permanent fabric pens. I would like to post a photo of them all on here. I have told him that he has to vacuum his own room now as it takes ages to pick everything off of the floor. I knew that he would love these particular pair as he loves anything America - especially the flag, and wants to try and move to the states when he completes his Graphics Design degree. I must admit that there will be some feelings of relief on my part when he does finally leave the family nest because the bedroom he occupies is too small for all his clothing accessories, i.e. he has well over 30 belts lying on a heap on his bedroom floor. These Converse are particularly nice as the colours have a slightly worn-in look - hence the colour is not too garish. They look brilliant with blue skinny jeans which my son wears a lot. He also has a bright red pair of skinny jeans Grrrr . . . . One of the best aspects about these particular style of Converse shoes is that they will improve in style with age, i.e. the worn- in look will be enhanced even when they do become a bit tacky with wear. The stars and stripes on a white background canvas will be great for this summer and will be a great asset to any wardrobe. Although these Converse are a size too big for his girlfriend - she has also worn them, with leggings and teamed up with a denim mini-skirt and they looked fab on her. I would imagine these to be more popular among students as students tend to like to make a statement about something they feel passionate about. Overall - These Converse are very stylish and will be appealing to both male and females.
