I have had this Freecom external hard drive for sometime and it is very easy to use. It simply works by plug and play via USB and is detected by the computer almost immediately.
The drive itself is encased in a cool silver metal exterior and looks smart and stylish. The drive is fairly quite compared to some other external drives available on the market but there is still a slight noise produced when it is turned on. It is powered by an adaptor cable and not by the usb which can be annoying as you need a spare plug outlet nearby to operate it and if you are carrying it around, it is slightly bulky and heavy already, having additional wires to carry around does not help.
Performance wise it cannot be faulted. It is fast and has a large capacity of data. Personally I use it to back up data from my PC from time to time but have tested it and it transfers all sorts sizes of videos, games and music data fairly quickly and easily just by dragging and dropping. Its also very suitable just for using as a second hard drive as it can easily be stored near your PC and the fact that it isn't very portable won't make a difference to you.
The cruzer micro 2gb is a great usb that transfers files in an instant and is compact in space. The 2gb memory however is kind of small for modern day use and is mostly suitable for transfering documents and music. You can maybe store 3 90 minute movies at maximum. This usb has never let me down, once its easy to use and to set up and transfer files. The flash drive has a security feature built in to secure your data.
I purchased this usb a while ago and its never failed to keep my files safe once. It does not require a cap as it has a slide button that pushes the usb within itself. The usb is well constructed as its made of only the best materials. Its appearance is great and you can pick these up fairly cheaply nowadays although it was a fair bit more when I got it. It still represents great value for money.
Its hard to believe that such a brilliant show was cancelled after just half a season. Was it bad marketing? who knows, one thing is for sure though and that is it was a bad mistake by FOX to cancel this show. Since being cancelled the show has developed a strong army of supporters through word of mouth alone. The DVD sales alone resulted in further expansion via graphic novels and a blockbusting movie, Serenity.
Well whats it all about? The series is set in the future where the world has expanded across different planets and obviously spaceships have become the norm. The stories focus on the crew of one particular spaceship, a smuggling/transport cargo ship that is classed as a firefly. The captain of the ship, the main protagonist is Malcolm Reynolds, a veteran from a previous war in which he was on the losing side. Captain Reynolds still feels deeply about the war is still strongly against the conquering Alliance. By his side is Zoe. A feisty but loyal friend, she has always stood by Captain Reynolds since they fought side by side in the war. This loyalty often brings conflict to her husband, the pilot of the ship, Hogan "Wash" Washburn. This jealousy eventually takes its toll in one of the episodes. The ship is maintained by Kaylee, a good hearted free-thinker. Kaylee got the job by impressing Captain Reynolds, upstaging the previous mechanic, who was seeing her at the time. The muscles of the ship is a man they call Jayne! None of the ships crew are really heroes, they are after all a band of smugglers, almost pirate-like but Jayne is the ugliest of the lot. He only cares about himself and puts that above everything else. Originally sent to kill Captain Reynolds, he turned on his own crew after the captain offered him more money to join his crew. The crew gain landing privileges at many upmarket places due to the fact that they have a registered companion(basically an upmarket fully trained and licensed prostitute) on board. Innara rents a shuttle onboard Captain Reynolds' ship for a cheap price as she gets them these privileges. You can always sense a tension between her and the captain and there is always a feeling of love between them that sometimes goes out of the window because of her profession. In the first episode, the crew take on 3 new passengers, Shepard Book, a priest with a mysterious past and the Tams, a brother and sister who are on the run from the alliance. The main general story revolves around the alliances pursuit of them and their taking refuge on board this ship. Simon Tam is a successful doctor, who has freed his teenage sister, River, from the Alliance labs where they were performing cruel tests on her.
The series generally has a western feel to it, mostly due to the dusty, undeveloped landscapes of the outer planets and the soundtrack. Each episode goes in a different direction and that is what makes the series unique. There is no linear template where in each episode say for instance they do a job, run into a bit of trouble but work around it and finish the job and bring home the money. This DVD set is fantastic. The sound and picture is excellent for a tv show that is nearly 10 years old. The extras are fantastic, a must watch for any fan of the show.
Where do I begin. These 3 books have clearly been aimed at children but they are fully engrossing for readers of all ages. From the first page, from the first few words we are taken away to another reality, one that exists parallel with ours. Orphaned schoolgirl Lyra embarks on a quest to find her best friend Roger who has disappeared and meets lots of weird and wonderful characters along this quest, many of whom join her and help her. Among these include a talking armored bear, a band of gypsies and a young boy from "our" reality. Slowly the plot starts turning towards religion and Christianity in particular exploring good and evil and existence as a whole. All three books together make for a long read but you will feel extreme satisfaction reading these pieces of art. The storytelling and imagination of author Philip Pullman together with his coda and inquisition make for a delightfully interesting read
This book was highly recommended to my by a friend. From the first page you can tell that is not your conventional kind of story. The tale charts the life of one Piscine Molitar Patel AKA Pi and in particular his woeful journey from Southern India to North America with just a Tiger for company!! The story builds up at a fast pace but the attention to detail the author has paid means that it is a vivid tale. You can literally picture all the scenery and feel all the emotions, tragedy and heartbreak that our hero goes through. You empathize with him. It is a tale of survival against all odds, a study of the human spirit. Pi does what he has to survive despite all his beliefs and the way he was brought up. He must travel across carnivorous swamps, super storms and the grueling sun. I hear someones finally making this into a movie and its about bloody time. It is going to be fabulous to see all these images I have in my head on screen. This book won the booker prize for the year it was released and it fully deserves it and more. One to read again and again.
Given the total costs of handsets these days(many networks offer free handsets initially but more than make up the value of the phone by tying people down to hefty contracts), its very rare to get a phone with contemporary features without paying an arm and a leg. HTC have somehow managed to take most of the features from their top handsets and put it together in this nice little package they call Wildfire S. There vast improvements in the camera quality from the original wildfire(This one boasts a decent 5mp camera with auto focus and flash) as well as a superior Android 2.4 operating system. The touchscreen is a lot more responsive. Its very easy to navigate around and there are convenient home and back buttons always available to use and the interface is easy to get used to. The screen size is small compared to big budget phones but you do get what you pay for. The smaller display does have its advantages as it uses less power and helps conserve battery life. It also makes the phone nice and compact compared to some of the more bulkier phones. It boasts all the regular features such as wi-fi, bluetooth, mobile internet, gps as well as the capability to capture stunning hd 720p video!
This is a sublime piece of technology and has every single feature you can think of and more! The massive 4.3" screen is perfect for viewing photos and videos on the go. The whopping 8mp HD camera takes beautiful pictures and records crisp videos in 720p HD. You can add up to 32gb via microsd card to the 1.5gb internal memory bringing the maximum capacity to 33.5gb. There are thousands of great apps available for this phone from the android market. The phone is quite durable (i've dropped it a few times and it still works perfect) although I recommend you use some sort of case for protection as well. In contrast, my sister has dropped her Iphone twice and both times she had to get it repaired. This phone has all the standard features on modern phones such as Wifi and Mobile Internet, bluetooth, GPS, Car Navigation(although I must admit this does lag from time to time, Iphone has much better car navigation).
The main downside is the battery life. This sort of phone is always going to consume a lot of power due to advanced features and vibrant screen. You can conserve battery life by turning of mobile data and stopping apps running in the background when not in use and also by lowering the brightness of the screen. A useful tip is to carry around a spare charger or a fully charged spare battery if possible as if like me, you wont be able to stop using all the great features on this phone and power will go down.
Being a big Lee Child / Jack Reacher fan, I eagerly anticipated this one, having read the previous installment, 61 hours, just a few weeks before. Battered and bruised, Jack Reacher walks into a small town and needs a place to sleep. Reacher, being Reacher gets intrigued by a case of domestic violence, decides to get involved and discovers that the town has long been under the tyrannical rule of 3 ruthless brothers and being the "nice" man that he is, he decides to take matters into his own had and put a stop to things. We have seen this kind of thing before in movies like a Fistful of Dollars and Reacher does it in his own style. There are quite a few subplots weaved into the story to flesh the book out involving a mothers search for her missing daughter, Smugglers trying to rip each other off and a drunk doctor. Overall its definetly a decent read and all these interesting characters add emotion to the story. It just feels like something was missing from the story. It kind of paints Reacher as some kind of superhero. 61 hours was brilliant due to its setting and it had thrills and suspense. In this book, the bad guys are revealed from the start and it is really hard to believe that in this day an age, people can "own" towns like the 3 brothers did.
I bought this little beauty of the dixons website for about £199 (which was fairly cheap back then). The resolution is quite stunning in Full 1080p HD. I really was just after a replacement monitor for my PC and this makes a great size. Watching movies and tv shows on my pc has never been better. Pictures also look amazing on this screen.
There are 2 HDMI ports so you can hook up your games console, blu-ray player and other such devices easily. Sadly there is only one scart input but you can pick up doublers pretty much anywhere nowadays. The screen is also wall mountable and you can remove the stand pretty easily and save space by putting it up on the wall(although it does not really take up that much space anyway!) The only drawback is that the sound/speaker system integrated with the monitor is really low and quite simply rubbish. There are ways to get around this by purchasing seperate speakers and/or sound systems, which increase volume to more reasonable. If you are using it as a pc monitor, you can continue using your existing pc speakers and enjoy the same great sound as always.
Other than that, this is really an amazing and compact little gem.
I was first introduced to this brilliant fragrance by a mate who always used to wear it when we were out on the pull. I need not say that it got the attention of many fine women! It is a strong quality fragrance. Prior to this, I had never heard of the brand 212 or Carolina Herrera but now I am on my 4th bottle. It is ideal in the evening for all sorts of occasions, whether you are going to a party, restaurant, club, pub or even just visiting someone, This is the perfect fragrance that always gets noticed for the right reason. I cannot describe what it smells like really, you really have to just try it. I have become a fan of this and the entire range of 212 fragrances(sexy, vip, on ice). A few sprays will last you the entire evening and it represents great value for money.
This is a durable phone that has the benefit of touchscreen as well as a keypad. The touchscreen is smooth and responsive but could be quicker. The phone is nice and slim and the keypad slides close for compactness. The camera is takes some really good pictures, I had fun with it whilst on holiday. An 8gb is enough to store all your snaps and music and these are really cheap nowadays. On the negative side, there are hardly any decent apps available for it, the battery life as with most touchscreen phones nowadays is fairly short and its recommended that you carry a spare for emergencies. Also the phone does not support wifi so you need a good data package from your provider. To use the earphones, you need to use the special jack that comes with it which is kind of annoying. I am sure most people would like to just plug and play their own headphones.
