I always like to try different hand creams, as I suffer from very dry hands, these products tend to be unscented and dermatologist tested. This is the reason why Neutrogena Hand cream, the unscented version caught my eye. Be aware they also do a scented hand cream. Neutrogena Hand cream is also Dermatologist approved.
The Neutrogena range claim to "instantly relieve and protect seriously dry or chapped hands; Even in the harshest conditions it leaves hands noticeable softer and smoother" - product description.
The question is do they live up to this bold statement, are my hands smoother and softer?
###Product and price###
I purchased the Neutrogena Hand cream Unscented from boots for around £1.60, as it was on offer at the time. I have particular dry hands and suffer from eczema so I like to try products that will nourish and protect my hands. I always tend to go for the dermatologist tested products as I don't want the product to affect my skin.
I feel this is a reasonable price for the hand cream if it does the job however its always good to look around other shops to see if you can get it any cheaper as £1.60 for a 50ml tube can be a bit expensive. You will tend to notice that Neutrogena sell the unscented version of the hand cream at a higher price than the scented version, so if you don't mind having a scented hand cream then try that one, however I prefer unscented as I know no extras ingredients have been placed in the product which may effect my hands.
The 50ml tube of hand cream is ideal size; it allows me to carry it in my handbag, cycle bag and my desk at work. You can easily carry it around and use it multiple times a day to get the full benefit. When using the product you don't need too much as it is concentrated which means that you need to use less of the cream on your hands as it spreads easily and goes a long way. Neutrogena states that as the hand cream is concentrated it will last longer and up to 200 applications. I do believe this statement as I have had the product for a couple of weeks and tend to use it 2 - 3 times a day, and each time I do not need to use a lot of the product to feel the benefit on my dry hands.
The Neutrogena Hand cream comes in two varieties unscented and scented, the unscented hand cream has a Red flip lid at the bottom and a red design. The scented hand cream is distinguished by a blue flip lid and a blue design. The two products visually are identical apart from the colour scheme.
The first time you use the hand cream only squeeze a small amount out as you will be very surprised have far this moisture will go. As it is a concentrated formula you will be surprised at how thick the cream is. It is cloudy in colour and has no smell to it. Dab small amounts of the cream on to the front and back of your hands and begin to massage it in you will notice that the creams soaks in to your skin easily but very quickly which is why I advise that you dab some on to the back and palm of your hands. Using this product has left my hands soft to the touch, and I can feel the effects long after I have applied the cream. The cream is not greasy and leaves your hands feeling nourished after applying.
I typically apply this product through out the day to my hands while I am at my desk at work. I find that using it during the day helps my hands feel soft and nourished particular after my bike ride to work and in preparation for the ride home.
This cream is non greasy and soaks into the skin easily which means no more shaking your hands till it dries. However you will be surprised at how fast the cream soaks in to your skin, as it is a thick cream it is not easy to spread the cream from the palm of your hand to the back of your hand, which is why you some put a small amount on both the palm and back of your hand.
As the cream is concentrated it may feel unusual as it is so thick, but you definitely do not need a lot of this cream as a small amounts goes a long way and you can feel the difference in your hands when using it.
If you are prone to dry skin I would definitely advise giving this cream a try to see if it helps nourish and moisturise your hands and you do not need to use a lot of the product each time, so the product will last and last.
I have recently been told that I have eczema so I have started to use a range of simple Derma products to help soothe and re-hydrate my skin. The Simple derma range is aimed at people like me who suffer with eczema and very dry skin. I decided that I would try the Simple derma shower cream to see if that would help re-moisturise my skin, I was impressed with the product but I will be looking to try other shower creams aimed at people with eczema, to see how they compare.
####Product and price###
The simple Derma shower cream comes in 200ml and can be expensive if you don't look around to see if you can get in any cheaper. I purchase mine for £4 from my local boots however I believe if you look around you may find it cheaper elsewhere.
The actually bottle is very similar to other Simple products; it is white plastic with green writing detailing the brand. The shower cream has a handle (hook) attached to the top of the bottle which allows you to hang it in the shower. The handle is also the lid of the bottle so if you knock the bottle you can sometimes be left with the handled still attached and the shower cream bottle on the floor. If this does happen the bottle is designed so that you don't lose any of the cream as you have to squeeze the bottle to get the cream out. This can be quite difficult sometimes when you are coming to the end of the cream.
This shower cream is non-foaming, so don't expect any bubbles or even any sign of it lathering up and becoming soapy in the shower. I found the shower cream quite unusual to use as I was not use to the cream not becoming soapy. The shower cream is easy to apply to your body and rub into your skin as it does not slide of your skin straight away. Unfortunately it was not easy to judge how much cream you needed as sometimes I was using not enough or too much.
As the shower cream is aimed at people who suffer from eczema and dry skin it doesn't have any smell to it as it is none perfumed.
As mentioned previously I was using this shower cream in conjunction with other Simple derma products, and I can happily say that over the past month my skin has become considerably smoother, re-hydrated and moisturised. I am able to visual see the difference in my skin. This may be due to the fact I was using both the shower cream and body lotion.
When using the shower cream it is clear that it does not dry your skin out, after using it you can feel that your skin is moisturised. I wouldn't use this product all the time, as I am use to using shower gels that lather, however I would definitely use it if I felt my skin was beginning to feel dry from other shower gels, or simply alternate between shower gels every now and then.
As this was the first time I had used a shower cream aimed at people with eczema, I did not know what to expect I was pleased with the product, but I will be looking for a different shower cream aimed at people with eczema so that I can compare the products and see what is best.
Online grocery shopping is has been around for quite a few years and is now well established as providing a good, reliable and easy to use service to all customers. All the larger chains of supermarkets have begun to delivery shopping via the online method. This review will detail the service I received from the supermarket Asda and my opinion of the experience.
###Creating your Order online###
The first step is getting to grips with the Asda website, before you start shopping it is best that you log in or create an account if you are a first time user. The website is www.asda.co.uk and from there you are directed to the groceries online shopping area. The web page is easy to navigate, with a simple toolbar at the top; even people new to the internet will soon get the hang of navigating around the categories of food.
The Asda deals are conveniently categorised together and displayed by a red banner on the page, clicking on the advert takes you straight to the Asda deals which are grouped by food category, however this can be tedious if you are search through every food category trying to find the items you want. To make the shopping easily there is a search bar at the top which allows you to search directly for any product you want. This is a very useful tool to complete your shopping efficiently and with ease. You can also add items direct an Asda receipt via the number, this a quick way to find items that you normally purchase in store.
The good thing about creating a detailed order online is that your account can remember all the items that you have just purchased. This is very useful if you regularly do an online shop as you can simply add or remove items to your shopping list, you can also save multiple shopping lists, for different occasions.
During your online shopping you can see your shopping basket on the right hand side and It keeps a running total of how much you have spent in your basket. This is a good addition as it allows you to monitor if you are on a budget so you know exactly what you are spending, as you go along.
Once you have finished your shopping you can select a booking slot and check out (explained later). If you have completed your checkout procedure and remember that you have forgotten something you can amend your order and add items up to 10 o'clock the night before your order is due to be delivered which is very useful if you run out of items the day before your delivery.
At the end of creating your online order you can select if you want a substitute product or not for a particular item if it is out of stock in the store at the time of your order being collected. This is very useful if you are ordering a specific product and do not want a substitute, it saves you returning the substitute product after delivery and trying to receive a refund.
### Price of delivery###
The price of an Asda delivery varies for £3.50 to £5.50 depending on the day you want it delivered. I like that the price varies and they don't charge a flat expensive rate. However I would prefer a flat delivery rate of £3.50 but you can't win all the time.
Saying that there are many discount codes and vouchers available to use to get free delivery on various websites. Asda will also offer free delivery from time to time in exclusive emails to customers. This is normally when you have not shopped online with them for a period of time.
###Completing the checkout procedure###
Once you have completed you Asda order you can choose your delivery slot yourself. This can be done at the end of completing your order or at the beginning before you have completed your order. Be aware that your delivery slot is only held for a couple of hours and then is released again, so you have to choose another slot if that one expires.
If you wish to be more environmentally friendly Asda lets you know if there is a van in your area at a certain delivery slot so you can choose that time slot. Or you can choose another one more suitable.
###Asda Driver and Delivery###
The Driver who delivered our Asda delivery was very pleasant, informed us of any substitutes that we were giving for certain products and if we had any breakages all we needed to do was ring up the number shown and explain and it will be redelivered.
He also offered to help take the bags from the van to my front door however I felt this was not needed as me and my partner where capable of doing this ourselves, it was nice that he offered and would be greatly appreciated for being who may have difficulties carrying bags.
We booked our delivery in the timeslot of 6pm to 8 pm on a Saturday evening, we hoped that our delivery would arrive towards the beginning of the timeslot unfortunately this didn't happen and our delivery arrived at 7:50. Which was still within the time slot so no complaints, however it did make me think if the driver would inform the customers that they where going to be late as we received no communicate from Asda as our delivery was successful however would this be the same if there where any complications with the delivery.
###Overall Experience ###
I would definitely order online from Asda again the service via the website and delivery man where very good, and created a positive first impression. Online shopping is excellent for having a hassle free shopping experience. If you don't have the time to go the shop, if you are ill or simply don't want to go shopping because of the crowds then online shopping is great but you need to have an excellent service from both the delivery man and the website to enjoy the experience. Asda deliveries are definitely to a good standard and would be recommended.
In my experience online shopping is great for keeping to a strict budget as it keeps a running total of the bill so you know what to expect when getting to the checkout rather than guessing the amount, or totalling it up as you walk round the shop.
The only disadvantages of shopping online with Asda, is that when you are filling up your online basket it can be quite tedious going through all the categories to find the products you want. If you know exactly what you want then the quick search button is great for finding it; but if you just want a gentle browse to see new products or things you forgot then the online navigation does do not it justice you are better off wandering around your local shop as it would properly be faster. However all in all Online Shopping with Asda was pleasant easy to use website, which allowed me to complete my order fast and with ease and also has the great ability to allow me to amend the order up to 10 o'clock the night before it is due to be delivered.
I currently use the Simple Derma Intensive Relief Hand cream and I am very pleased with the results. When I saw that the Simple Derma also did a body Lotion I quickly snapped it up and decided to give it a go and see if it was as good as the hand cream. The Simple Derma range is aimed at people who experience very dry sensitive skin and who may experience eczema. The packaging states proven results 4 in days. After one week my skin is displaying some very positive results.
The packaging of the Simple Derma lotion is very similar to other Simple ranges and comes in the traditional white bottle with green writing detailing the product. It has a flip lid at the top which can be securely fastened after using the product. When using the product you are able to disperse the lotion easily as the design of the packaging and the texture of the lotion do not come running out.
The Simple Derma lotion is available in 200ml and 400ml; they are available in many shops and range in prices. I purchased the 200ml from boots for £3.12 this is a little bit expensive but when it comes to my dry skin I like to try different product that I know will work and help to nourish my skin.
Even though it is a little expensive the lotion will last a long time as you do not need to use a lot as it spreads very well over the skin. It is neither too runny nor too thick so you can easily apply it to your body with ease. It goes on white put once you massage it into your skin it is easily soaked in and you skin feels moisturised to the touch. This product does not completely soak into your skin and disappear it soaks in and leaves a smooth protection.
Being a no perfume or colour Lotion it does not have a distinct smell, but the smell its self is pleasant and one I wouldn't mind having on my skin. The key ingredient of the simple derma range is Canola oil. They claim that the Simple derma range is able to lock in moisture and nourish the skin using the stated ingredients. Simple derma is aimed at people with very dry skin and who suffer from eczema, as I have not suffered from eczema I cannot give my opinion but I do get dry patches in some problems areas and this lotion is brilliant for moisturising my skin
Simple Derma lotion is great for dry skin the results I have received are very pleasing this product makes my skin feel better to the touch and appears to be smooth and more nourished. I believe that this product is expensive compared to other moisturises which is why I choose to use this on my problem areas but to be honest you do not need a lot of the product as it goes a long way. If you are lucky you can find this product at a more reasonable price in other shops rather than you local boots. I will definitely be keeping my eye out for in local shops at a better price.
I am very impressed with the Simple Derma lotion and feel that is benefiting my skin type and improving the condition of my dry skin. I will continue to the lotion as it is helping to improve my skin and maintain the correct moisture balance I require. I would certainly recommend the Simple Derma Lotion to anyone who experiences dry skin.
I am a big fan of simple products however I had not seen the Simple derma range before and was intrigued as it was aimed at people who have very dry sensitive skin and may be prone to eczema and dermatitis. Like all simple products and other popular brands they are also Dermatologist approved, hypoallergenic and suitable for children.
The Derma range claim to soothe and lock in moisture, which is very suitable for me as I have very dry hands and tend to prefer to use products that are aimed at people with sensitive skin or eczema as I feel that they will be best for my hands.
###Product and price###
I purchased the Simple Derma Intensive Relief Hand cream from boots for around £2 am not too sure of the price as I remember going to the till and paying less than it originally was on the shelf, as there was an offer on the simple range. I have looked on the internet and it appears to vary in price but it typically retails for around £3. This is quite expensive as it is only a 50ml tube but it is definitely worth it if you have dry and sensitive hands. When it comes to my skin I like to make sure that I am getting the correct creams, which means I may pay a little bit more.
However I have tried cheaper ones in the past and they can be just as good if you know of any let me know.
The 50ml tube of hand cream is ideal size; it allows me to carry it in my handbag, cycle bag and my desk at work. You can easily carry it around and use it multiple times a day to get the full benefit. When using the product you don't need too much as it goes and long way and will last you longer than you expected.
Like a lot of the simple products the hand cream contains no perfume or colour so does not have a distinctive smell. The 50ml triangle tube comes with a flip lid where you can squeeze a small amount of the product out. The first time you use it only squeeze a small amount out as you will be very surprised have far this moisture will go. Simple massage it in to your hands and you will notice that the creams soaks in to your skin easily and quickly if you have not used too much. When I have used this product it has not left my hands greasy they have been left feeling soft and nourished for a long period.
I typically apply this product twice a day to my hands while I am at my desk at work. I find that using it twice a day helps my hands feel soft and nourished particular after my bike ride to work and in preparation for the ride home. As mentioned this cream is non greasy and soaks into the skin easily which means no more shaking your hands till it dries.
If you are prone to dry skin I would definitely advise giving this cream a try to see if it helps nourish and moisturise your hands
The simple brand is promoted as experts in sensitive skin; it is stocked in the majority of stores and is easily recognisable from other products. Simple promote different skin care ranges among there products however they all claim that they have no perfume or colour and are pH balanced to help your skin.
Over the recent months I have been suffering from extremely dry skin and have started to take an interest in Simple products. The newest simple product I am trying is the Simple Revitalising face wash. This is part of the kind to skin range I have used other products from this simple range and have been very impressed with them. Is the Simple refreshing Facial gel just as good as all the other products or does it let the team down?
##### Product and price ####
The Refreshing Facial gel can be spotted quite easily on the shelves as it has a vibrant green packaging and is in the standard triangular shape with a see through green flip lid at the bottom. This type of lid allows it to stand upright in the shower / bath allowing the gel to flow easily to the bottom for use. The name, product description and ingredients are all easily visible on the packaging with either white or dark green lettering.
If you are wishing to purchase this product I advise that you look around a few shops as it can differ in price quite a lot. I purchased mine from Boots for £2.99 for a 150ml bottle. (It also comes in 50ml) however looking around town I soon realised that you can purchase the same product for £1.99 in places like your local supermarket, Asda, Tesco and also Quality save.
This face wash is very different to the ones I normally used; I was pleasantly surprised when I used it for the first time. It doesn't really have any smell to it but I don't mind as it is going on my face.
The liquid is cool to the touch and is an unusual feeling when massaging into your face, as I have not used a facial gel before I was unsure what to expect but the Facial gel is lovely and cooling on your face. Be aware that it doesn't lather up when you are massaging it and become soapy it is simply a soothing gel that you massage on to your face and wash off with warm water.
When I used this product for the first time I was a little bit unsure as the feeling of massaging the gel into my face was quite unusual, and I didn't really feel that it was benefiting my face. However after using the facial gel everyday for a week I am very pleased with the results so far.
This facial gel does not dry my skin out like other facial washes have done. In the past, I have used a face wash and my skin was incredibly dry after use meaning a face moisturiser was needed desperately. This is not the case with Simple Refreshing Facial; after using it my face feels incredibly soft to the touch and well moisturised. I still use face moisturise however if I forget to moisture my face but I don't overly worry as I used this facial gel and my skin still feels soft and supple.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who would like to try something new and is looking for a face wash that will not dry your skin and will in turn help to keep your skin felling soft and refreshed during the day.
Following on from my previous review on Tresemme vitamin E moisture Rich Shampoo, I have also recently purchased Tresemme vitamin E moisture Rich Conditioner. I was very reluctant to purchase items from the Tresemme brand as I felt that they where hyped up and there statements Salon professional results where only to lure in potential customers; how ever I have been using Tresemme for a couple of weeks and I am very impressed with the results so far. I have been Using Tresemme Vitamin E moisture rich Conditioner in conjunction with Tresemme Vitamin E moisture rich Shampoo. In this review I will focus on the Tresemme Vitamin E moisture rich Conditioner.
### Product and Price###
The Tresemme Conditioners come in a traditional White bottle with a lid that has flip switch allowing you to press one side down and the product to come out the other side in small measurements.
The packaging of the Conditioner is similar to the Shampoo but they keep the theme of changing the bottle colour to white so each type of conditioner comes in the same white packaging and the different types of conditioner are identified by different colours on the bottles Tresemme Vitamin E moisture Rich has a striking blue colour which identifies that the Conditioner is good for people with dry and damaged hair.
Tresemme 900ml shampoos and conditioners are currently on offer at Asda, you can purchase 2 bottles for £5, selecting from a wide range of Tresemme Shampoos and conditioners. This is a great deal as Tresemme normally retails at around £3.40 per bottle. Personally I would not purchase it at this price however the deal is great and the bottles are a great size and I expect the product to last me a very long time.
The Tresemme Conditioner as expected comes out in a white substance and has a lovely smell which is neither overpowering nor non existent. The Bottle is quite large but you do not need to worry about too much product coming out as the well designed opening does allow the substance to flow to fast. The conditioner is not runny and is of a good thick consistency it soaks into your hair well and you do not need to use a lot of the product.
I use this product along with the Tresemme Shampoo and the appearance and texture of my hair afterwards is lovely. I previously had very dry hair that looked completely lifeless and flat, using this Conditioner has helped me see an improvement in my hair. No longer is my hair knotty and difficult to brush the conditioner fills my hair with moisture making it easier than normal to brush my hair.
I tend to wash my hair everyday and use conditioner nearly every time also as I think it helps keeping my hair healthy and strong. Using this conditioner I can either brush it through my hair with a comb while in the shower easily or simply run my fingers through it. Either way when I wash it off and brush and dry my hair the results are very good. In the past I have purchased cheap conditioners and none have given the same results so maybe in some cases it is better to pay more to get healthier looking hair. However this Conditioner and Shampoo is on offer and a great one at that so am thinking of stocking up for the future. Great Conditioner, however I have only used it after using the Tresemme Shampoo. I would defiantly recommend this to people who have dry damaged hair.
Everyone knows the Tresemme brand and Adverts as they are everywhere promoting the product with a high regard that it could produce salon results every time; like many people I was wary of the product and thought it was being hyped up to generate more sales and interest, instead of focusing on the actually of the product and how it can help people who use it everyday.
I never thought about purchasing Tresemme due to the prices and I simply though it was too hyped up. This was until two things happened; recently my hair has become dry and knotted every time I brushed my hair after I have just washed it, it was starting to look dry and unhealthy. During my shop at Asda I was looking for a new shampoo and conditioner to help me with my hair and get it looking healthy. I was willing to try anything. Tresemme 900ml bottles both shampoo and conditioner, for £5.00 a bargain not to be missed not matter what I thought. I purchased the Tresemme vitamin E Moisture rich shampoo and conditioner. This review will focus of the moisture rich shampoo only and it is defiantly doing the job my hair looks and feels ten times better.
###Product and price###
The Tresemme Shampoos come in a traditional Black bottle with a lid that has flip switch allow you to press one side down and the product to come out the other side in small measurements. Each variation of the shampoo come in the same packaging, what identifies the different types is a strip of colour near to the bottom of the front of the bottle and the different colour wording. Tresemme Vitamin E moisture Rich has a striking blue colour which identifies that the Shampoo is good for people with dry and damaged hair.
I purchased the larger bottle 900ml of the product as it is currently on offer in Asda for two bottles for the price of £5. This also includes the conditioner 900ml, to get sure large quantities at such a cheap price is a great offer as the bottles retail at approx £3.40 each for the 900ml bottles.
The first time I used the Tresemme Shampoo I thought I would struggle to use such a large bottle in the shower as I was use to the standard size bottles. However once you get use to it is fine, as long as you have somewhere to store it easily. The design of the lid makes it very easy to tip the bottle up and pour a small amount of shampoo out. The shampoo has a good texture and is neither too runny nor thick.
The smell of the shampoo is pleasant and is not overpowering, it is not a strong smelling flower or scent like other shampoos but a simple pleasant, clean and fresh scent that fills the bathroom. The shampoo lathers on your hair very easily and washes out with ease.
According to Tresemme
"This shampoo will quench your dehydrated hairs' thirst - thanks to its nourishing formula with vitamin E and restorative sunflower, hazelnut and almond extracts. Its ideal for those with parched, over-processed hair or those who frequently use heat styling tools "
I can happily say that since using this shampoo for the past couple of weeks I fully agree with the above statement. My hair feels a lot softer and has regained the strength and health it once had.
I use the Shampoo every day and my hair has gone from strength to strength before it was very dry and knotted and hard to brush when I got out of the shower. Now it is very easy to manage and once I have brushed and dried my hair it looks noticeably brighter and healthy.
I choose this product as my hair was dry and damaged and the Tresemme Vitamin E Moisture rich shampoo was ideal for this purpose, not matter what I previously thought of the product it has certainly exceeded my expectations as I am very happy with the results and believe that this product does indeed supply you hair with moisture that you may have previously lost. Even using this product everyday I think that it will last me quite a few weeks as the bottle is so large and you do not need much product to wash your hair. I have medium length hair and I think this shampoo will last me easily 4 - 5 weeks. I would recommend this product to my friends particularly as it is on offer on at the moment. Great Shampoo!
I have been cycling to work everyday for over a year and felt that it was time to start monitoring how fast I was going and how far I was going, on both my commute to work and the leisurely bike rides I and my partner enjoy at the weekend. Off we went to price up the Bicycle computers and look for a good starter Bicycle computer
The Trek Incite 8i Wireless Bicycle Computer boasts 9 functions in all and comprises of four components the Magnet and sensor which are attached to the spokes on the front wheel and the front stem. You have a small caddy which attaches easily to the handle bars where you can slide the bicycle computer in and out of it with great ease. Once it is attached it is secure and will not fall out. The wireless transmission range from the computer to sensor is 64cm, which is plenty for most bikes.
The bicycle computer is grey with a small black outline and a large screen to display the data. The screen will continually display your current speed in large numbers on the screen underneath the speed you will be able to see the other functions that you can scroll through. The trek Incite 8i functions are shown below
12/24 hour clock - Displays in hours and minutes
Time - Stopwatch - display how long you have been riding this has an auto stop/start
Odometer - distance ridden to date displayed in miles or Kilometres
TRP - (Trip) distance ridden since reset
Pacer - indicates whether current speed is faster or slower than average speed, this is shown by an arrow pointing up or down next to the speed at the top
Speed - current speed displayed in MH or KMH at the top of screen
AVG - average speed since last restart
MAX - max speed sine last restart
The cycle computer has three buttons one on the side and two at the bottom, these are used in the set up of the computer and the day to day usage. Pressing one of the two buttons on the bottom allows you to scroll through the functions available on the computer allowing you to monitor the different functions. The button on the side is used in junction with one of the bottom ones when pressed together they will reset all the totals apart from the odometer.
Instructions come with the product, along with some small diagrams.
The trek brand is very popular and can be found in most independent bike shops or popular chain bike stores. Mine was purchased from Evans cycles for Price 27.99 they can also be found online on various cycling websites.
I was given the product as a present by my partner, we attempted to install it ourselves on the bike but The instructions where confusing for me so to save time and energy we decided it would be easier and faster if we took it to our local independent bike shop who fitted it for free as I was buying a bottle rack.
As my first Bicycle computer the Trek Incite 8i wireless Bicycle Computer does everything I need and want it to do on my regular commute and weekend bike rides. It allows me to monitor my pace and distance and try to improve everyday.
It is easy to scroll through the functions even when riding as it is located securely on the handlebar. The only issue I have is that it does have a backlight so it is hard to read when you are on dark roads, or even badly lit roads.
I have been out on my bike using the bicycle computer in both the rain and snow and luckily it is still working perfectly however I don't think it is Waterproof, but it is defiantly resilient to the extreme weather conditions, hopefully this will last for a very long time.
It is also extremely durable I have dropped the cycle computer one or two times when I have been trying to remove it or place it in its caddy, but this was down to my clumsiness and I had gloves on, but it has been fine since it has been dropped a few scratches on the corner but the screen is lovely and unscratched.
The wireless cycle computer is great for the purpose I use it, I cycle 5 / 6 days a week and it allows me to track and monitor my performances. For my first Bicycle computer I am extremely happy with the functionality and the ease of use. It is durable and has proved very resilient in the rain. As it is wireless I do not need to mess around with wires and as my front wheel is a quick release I can simply remove the wheel and fix any punctures with the magnet still attached to the spokes. Please the wheel back on and everything is back up and working again.
Very good Bicycle computer but there may be better ones out there with a backlight and other functionality.
I have been commuting to work on my bike now for just over 12 months; in the beginning I would use training clothes and a rucksack I already had to aid me in my commute. However as I progressed in physical fitness I began to enjoy the commute and would often go out at the weekends with my partner for long bike rides; I then decided that I should invest in the correct clothing (see other review) and correct bags for my bike as I had a bag rack on the back. I decided that I would like two Panniers so that I would have enough storage for when my partner and I went on bikes rides.
~~Product and Price~~
I had seen many Panniers in all types of shops from independent bike shops to bike chain shops and also some high street shops. I was constantly drawn to the Altura Panniers. We had already purchased an Altura jacket for myself and were impressed with the brand. Unfortunately Altura Panniers can be very expensive considering that they are saddle bags for your bike.
However I decided I would like some Altura Panniers as they had the reflective strips which would help me been seen. As I was regularly commuting in the bad weather, I needed the panniers to be fully waterproof, and lightweight, as I carried my work clothes in them.
When I was researching Altura Panniers I came across the Altura Dry line 32 Panniers and was instantly attracted to them and felt they fit my commuting purposes exactly. The product descriptions of the panniers are as follows
32 LITRE CAPACITY (PER PAIR)
LIGHTWEIGHT, DURABLE MINI RIP FABRIC
WATERPROOF DRYLINE CONSTRUCTION
RIXEN AND KAUL KLICKFIX FITTINGS
UNIVERSAL LEFT OR RIGHT, FRONT OR REAR FIT
I am unsure of the full price as mine where a Christmas gift so am not sure where they are from but you can get them at multiple shops online and specialist independent bike shops which I have a feeling mine is from as we have two great independent bike shops near us. They range in price from £80 a pair to £69 a pair on online shops.
My Panniers are grey and black with reflective strips on the side and top. They also have the KlickFix Fittings which is bright red and great for securing on to my bag and very easy to get off.
The attraction of these panniers for me was the waterproof Dry line construction many times I had ridden to work in the rain, only to get to work to have damn patches on my clothes due to the rain seeping through the zips on the bag, and also my paper work. I have used these panniers in both the rain and snow we had over Christmas and they kept my belongings safe and dry.
The panniers are very light weight and you can't feel them on your bike, I tend to use one when am commuting to work and two when I go out riding with my partner and to the shops. Even when they are filled with shopping or bits and bobs on our trips they have coped well and you cannot tell they are on your bike when riding. The great thing is that that they don't stick out even well full so you have no worries about getting to close to cars with them.
The KlickFix fittings are very easy to use and secure the pannier to my bike brilliantly even when they are full. At the back of the pannier is a red push button this is what you press down on to remove the pannier it is very secure when it has clicked in place and you give the pannier a little tug on the handle you are likely to lift you bike of the floor rather than lift the pannier.
The handle I mention means the pannier is really easy to carry from my bike to office, however it is not idea to carry for a long period of time as it can be quite awkward put it is good for the purpose I use.
I believe that Altura panniers are a good quality product which will last for a very long time, they are definitely worth the money if you intend to use them every day and for leisurely bike rides.
I have tried the Alberto Balsam range before and find then cheap and pleasant to use, they have a good range of products and luckily my local Asda stocks the majority of the range. During my monthly shop at Asda noticed the deal on Alberto Balsam Shampoos; 4 bottles for £3.00 was still running. I think this is a popular deal with the Alberto Balsam range and one that looks to run continually.
The deal works out to be 0.75p a bottle. The deal also includes conditioner so you can get two bottles of shampoo and two of conditioner. I chose the Juicy Green apple and the sun kissed raspberry (see other review) variations. I got shampoo and conditioner in both ranges. I will focus on the Alberto balsam Juicy Green Apple Shampoo in this review.
The Alberto Balsam shampoo bottle is a cylinder tube made of clear plastic so that you can see the cool Green colour of the shampoo, the bottle contains 400ml. This is a bargain for 0.75p a bottle when purchased as part off the deal or 0.18p per 100ml.
At the top of the bottle is a black flip top lip, be careful as this is also a screw top and may come unscrewed. The product description describes it as an herbal shampoo with apple and grape seed extracts for normal/greasy hair. It is easily recognisable on the shelf from the large label on the front and the vibrant colours the Alberto Range stocks.
Apple smelling hair is great you either love it or hate it, the smell of the shampoo is not too subtle but doesn't overpower you. The product is very easy to use as it comes in a handy sized bottle with a flip top lid the consistency of the shampoo is not over runny yet it is also not creamy in its texture. You don't need to worry about it running out of your hands as it is not a runny liquid however there is the possibility that too much might come out. When I started to massage the shampoo into my hair the smell was peasant and the shampoo was lathering up very well so that a small amount went a long way; however the effects of the shampoo where not great for me.
The product description states that the shampoo is "super fruity and will leave you and your hair feeling fresh and healthy", it certainly didn't do this for me.
I agree that the smell from the shampoo is lovely and it fills the bathroom with a lovely aroma and my hair smells noticeably of apple a day later; however when using the product my hair was left feeling dry and knotted, it certainly didn't leave my hair feeling healthy. When I started to brush my hair I could see from the texture that it was knotted and dry and became difficult to brush, it certainly was looking healthy this may be due to the shampoo having an advise effect with my hair and removing all the moisture rather than putting some it.
I have naturally very fine hair which can sometimes be greasy, I choose this shampoo because it discussed that it was good for normal / greasy hair I thought this product would benefit me. I may have chosen the wrong Alberto balsam product from my hair type as this shampoo did nothing for my hair it only made it smell lovely.
In the future I will be wary of Alberto Balsam shampoos and make a note of which of there ranges suit my hair type and stay away from certain products. However when I am on a budget again one month I will be sure to look to the range of shampoos to see what they have, although I will be staying away from the Juicy Green Apple Shampoo
Over 12 Months ago I started cycling to work for both health and fitness reasons. At the beginning I just used normal training gear so I didn't spend a lot on the cycling clothes just on the bike. Months down the line I was well and truly hooked on the cycling bug starting to go out at the weekends as well. But the need comes for good Cycling clothes to keep you warm and protected in the winter months.
In November my boyfriend brought me the Altura Kinetic Women's jacket as a present for keeping up my exercise routine, The jacket is quite expensive as we had seen it in our local independent bike shops for just over £60 but if you have a look online you might be able to get it for £60 or under. We decided that as I was keeping up my cycling I needed to be fully protected from the rain and wind and have the reflective strips so that I could be seen easily. Altura is a popular Cycling brand so we knew that the jacket would be worth money.
The are many different types of Altura jackets but I choose the Altura Kinetic women's jacket because the product specification detailed that it was waterproof, breathable and highly durable which is what I wanted in the long winter months. It also helped that the Jacket was in Purple my favourite colour. The jacket also comes in yellow, and both have reflective trims located around the jacket so that you can be easily visible on the road in the dark nights. The reflective trims are instantly recognisable as Altura as they tend to be in some areas shown as an A, and the same pattern on the back. You will regularly notice riders wearing Altura jackets recognised by the reflective trims and the riders can be easily seen at night.
The Jacket also has Chest and rear pockets, with a front zip all waterproof; and vents in the jacket to keep you cool. Altura sizes are great I am normally a 12/14 in different shops but this jacket was a perfect fit in a 12 and still had plenty of room.
I use this jacket on my commute to work and on my bike rides at the weekend with my partner I believe this jacket is ideal for fellow commuters, and also beginners. I have been wearing this jacket primarily in the winter months wind, snow and rain it has kept me remarkable warm and dry. When the summer months come I may continue to wear it as it not a very heavy coat however I may switch to my lighter jacket.
During this bad winter my jacket has been put to the test I have been riding in downpours to work and the jacket would appear to wet to the core but on the inside you are nice and dry and warm. There is no leaking through the zips proving they are waterproof. The jacket dries' super fast when simply hung up in work or at home.
The jacket feels soft to the touch and is very comfortable so it is a pleasure to wear when cycling; the rear pocket is great for storing a phone, keys and money so that they do not restrict you in your riding as it is located low on your back. I have also worn this jacket to nip to the shop when it has been raining so it has multiple uses.
I am very glad that my partner brought me this jacket as it has definitely helped me stay warm and dry in the winter months and it has also increased my pleasure of riding to work. I no longer mind if it is raining because I know that I will stay dry and comfortable.
In the future I will most defiantly look to Altura for my Cycling Jackets as I believe they are very good and will never be seen with out mine. 5 doo yoo stars from me as it keeps me so warm and dry.
Over the recently months I have seen advertisements multiple times about this product, but I just thought it was a marketing gimmick, and it was no better than a normal face Scrub that was a lot cheaper. I had read some reviews from people saying that it was a great product and that they noticed the difference after using it for a week.
I decided to give it a go when I saw that it was on sale in the Boots Half price sale. Along with a pack of refill pads which was also half price I had been indecisive about the product for weeks and as it was half price I thought it was the best time to purchase it and try it out. After a couple of weeks I am still undecided about the product it is good but maybe I could have lived without it, and spent the money on normal face scrubs.
This product can be very expensive for what it is, it currently retails at 12.99 in most stores, just after Christmas is was included in the boots half price sale for £6.99. If you are a boots Advantage card holder you will also receive 48 points. What was quite surprising was that it came with quite a few extra pads, I was pleasantly surprised that the
Neutrogena Wave cleanser came with 14 pads enough for once a day for two weeks or longer, if you don't tend to be using it every day, which I didn't. I also purchase 30 extra pads as they too where also on a half price offer; as I understood these can be expensive at normal price.
~~~Product and use~~~
The product description states that it
"It has got the moves to open up your pores with cool cleansing foam that can clean deep to remove more dirt, oil and make up than traditional cleansing"
To achieve this statement the product is a little hand held size device with a pink rubber grip, with a compartment to put in a battery which is supplied with it. At one end is a circler rough section, here is where you apply a pad.
Don't make same mistake I did and put the pad on the device with the soap facing down instead of up - hard to tell which way to put it on as one side had a wet patch on it which was the soap. I didn't realised and just placed it on, I quickly removed it and turned it around when I realised what I had done and used it as normal. However since using it previously I don't think it matters I was just confused as not a lot of foam was dispensed.
The instructions state that you simply run it under water switch it on and it will begin to realise foam when you rub it on you face. If you are expecting a good amount of foam then this product is not for you I expected a lot of foam straight away but it can take a while to get the soap lathered up and sometimes you might need to rub it with your finger to get it going before you even switch it on; am not sure if this is a good or bad thing as I can't decide.
This product can be used over the sink or in the shower, you gently run the device around you face in circular motions you can instantly feel the vibrating motion which can take a while to get use too. Try not too be too rough when you are using the cleansing wave as it can be quite touch on your skin particularly if you have sensitive skin. Once you have happy that you have covered you face rinse it off with water, I begin to feel a tingling sensation on my cheeks and nose so I knew straight away that it had made an impact on those areas.
I don't use the product everyday as I am worried that it can damage my skin if I use it too much, I alternate with other face washes and scrubs. I tend to use this product 2 -3 times a week, my skin does feel a lot smoother and I have not had any breakouts in my problem area. However I cannot say that this is down to the product itself.
~~~Overall experience ~~~
Overall I found the Neutrogena wave power cleanser very easy to use, either in the shower or over the skin, as it does not release a lot of foam when you are using the product this means that there is less mess and you do not need to be over the skin to use it. I have been know to walk into my bedroom and back using it and have no problems with mess.
As the device vibrates you need to be careful that you are not too rough when pressing it against your skin as it can be damaging to sensitive skin I have not experienced this problem but I am always aware of how much pressure I use.
You can definitely feel that the product has done something as I have tingly feeling when rinsing my face however I also get this with some good face scrubs. In my Opinion this product is too expensive for what is and other face scrubs can do the same job. However for ease of use it can be better than other face scrubs as you can simply remove the pad and bin after you have finished with minimum mess and fuss. A good facial scrub tool but in my opinion not worth the full price for the device and the extra pads if you can get it at half price or less then I would definitely say give it a go.
For years I had heard people rave about electric toothbrushes being ten times better than normal, but in my opinion I just thought why pay some much for a toothbrush when you can buy disposable ones for so much cheaper and they do they same job as long as you put the effort in and brushed your teeth properly. Boy have I been disillusioned long enough, I gave in and in the January sales I began looking for a reasonably priced Electric toothbrush to test.
The Oral B Professional Care 5000, electric toothbrush is very similar in design and colour to many Oral B electric toothbrushes; it is white with a blue rubber grip where the power button is located. At the bottom of the toothbrush is a single light that flashes green when you charge it up. This light will begin to flash red and beep when you are running out of power. Indicating you need to charge it up using the charging stand that came with the toothbrush.
The toothbrush comes with two separate brush heads, that should easily last you 6 months each and then you should replace the head like you would with a normal toothbrush. The brush heads are only small but they are very good on your teeth.
When you turn the toothbrush on it will rotate for 30 seconds and then vibrate/ pulse indicating that 30seconds has lapsed. It will continue to do this every 30 seconds still the toothbrush has been on 2 minutes after 2 minutes the toothbrush will vibrate / pulse longer indicating that 2 minutes are over.
2 minutes is the recommend length of time brushing you teeth, having 30 seconds on each section of your teeth. For me this feature was great as I could monitor how long I was spending on each section in my mouth and I was properly for the first time in a long time brushing my time for the required amount of time. 2 Minutes sounds like a long time but it isn't and your teeth feel a lot cleaner and fresher.
When using this product I find that I don't have to press to hard or brush too vigorously as the rotating brush finds all the right angles, you are able to easily brush behind you teeth and the brush head is not rough on you teeth. A fully charged toothbrush will last you approx 2 weeks when you are brushing for 2 minutes. The only problem I have with this toothbrush is that it does not come with an adapter to plug it into a standard plug sockets. Neither does it say anywhere on the box that an adapter is required. I presume that some people will know this but unfortunately I wasn't fully aware and was lucky that we brought one just in case as they are quite cheap to purchase.
My first port of call to locate the above described toothbrush was the Boots half price sale just after Christmas here I first saw the Oral B Professional care 5000. It was reduced from approx £45 to about £22, unfortunately because I am so indecisive I left it a few days to think about this offer, when I went to purchase it from boots the offer had ended and it had gone back up to full price. Now I was kicking myself because I won't buy £45 for a toothbrush but I was willing to pay £22 to try it out.
Along comes Tesco the hero, while we were doing our normal shop we noticed that they had so electric toothbrushes on offer and what do you there is was half price. It was meant to be, straight away it was dropped it to the trolley. I wasn't missing the same offer twice.
Electric toothbrushes come in a range of prices from £10 all the way up to £150 or more. Each toothbrush has its own advantages and disadvantages which leads to the expensive prices however, if you have never tried am Electric toothbrush before I would advise that you get one in the sale at a reasonable price so that it is good quality for you to use and see if you like them. At £22 I think my first electric toothbrush was very reasonable priced.
I am totally converted, since I have been using my electric toothbrush for nearly a month I have noticed the improvement in the cleanliness and feel of my teeth, not only straight after brushing but during the day as well.
I am confident that the toothbrush is doing its job ten times better than an ordinary toothbrush as I can feel it and can also see that my teeth are become noticeably whiter. When I purchased the toothbrush I was not convinced I would feel any difference. This is totally untrue the results are great and you are left feeling satisfied that you teeth are properly clean all over, even in the hard to reach places. I believe that the Oral B Professional Care 5000 is a good price for your first electric toothbrush but only when it is on offer. I don't think I would have purchased it at full price even though I know how good it is I would still wait till it is in the sale. Now Lets just hope the dentist's opinion about my new cleaner teeth is just the same.
In the first week on January we always save money to spend on ourselves in the sales, this year we decided to spend it on a Nintendo WII. We had looked around loads of shops for different deals and decided to go to the Game store in the Trafford centre, Manchester, it appeared to have the best offer on the WII when you wanted to get extra controllers, also it was black which was a must according to my boyfriend because it would go better with the television if it was the black version. Any how moving on, my expectations of the store where high as I understood Game was one of the best when it came to knowledge about Computer games and consoles and that they knew their stuff. Boy was I wrong with this particular Game store; I apologise now if my review sounds a bit like a little rant.
~~Product and deal ~~
In the Game store In the Trafford centre we purchased a Black Nintendo WII bundle which came with extras for £259.99. For that price we got a Black WII console, a Black remote + Motion plus and a black Nunchuck, with Wii Sports.
The extras included an extra white remote with motion plus, an extra white nuchuck, the games we received where wii Play, wii resort, and Mario karts with two steering wheels. WE believed this was the best deal around for us and we simply wanted to take it home and start playing straight away, which is why we both wanted controllers each.
On first impressions Game appeared to have an abundance of stock and were busy, which confirmed my thoughts that they where a popular store.
At first glance at the staff they all appeared very young, which is not a problem as I believed they would have great first hand knowledge about the game consoles and the game and would be able to provide me with the best advice as this would have been there hobby playing games.
From the minute I walked to the counter and requested the Wii bundle described above things began to fall apart the young man on the counter, went and got all of the products and began to but them through the till, at the same time he also wanted my details for the reward card, multiple times I said my name to him and he still got it wrong and put me through as male, in no means do I look like a male my name is Danielle not Tanya or Daniel. Once that was sorted we got onto the deal. He had no idea what the deal was and didn't understand how to put it through on the computer he ended up trying to charge us a lot more than the deal. This can be easily understood as a mistake which we explained; at this point another member of staff got involved as he could tell me and my boyfriend where starting to lose patience.
So the second member of staff started again, at this point I began to check everything that was going thorough to make sure that it was correct. Am, glad I did as it appeared that they where trying to give us two white nunchucks when we were suppose to receive one black and one white. I explained this to the first member of staff who was watching the second staff member put it through the computer. He explained that they had no black nunchucks left I kindly pointed to the shelf on the wall where there was rows of black nunchucks, he looked confused and see he didn't see them and thought we where sold out. At this point my boyfriend out of the shop for the second time as he was getting fed up with the staff and the lack of knowledge they had about the deal.
The second staff member was still trying to but our products through the computer and it was obvious he was struggling to get the deal to work on the computer at this point the manager was talking to the first staff member but still left them to struggle and but the deal through.
To be fair to the second member of staff he was polite and continued to apologise about the situation but my faith in the staff and my first impressions of the store was in tatters after 30 minutes I was leaving the store with my new Nintendo Wii.
For me this was not a great first impression from Game I expected to walk into the shop discuss the product and the deal I wanted and be able to leave the store with my purchase within a reasonable time. However it took over 30 minutes for me to purchase our new Nintendo Wii, along with a free reward card with points on it. This is not expectable from a store that has such a high reputation, my first experience with this store was horrible, if I had left my boyfriend on his own to purchase it I knew that he would have come away empty handed as he had to constantly leave the store before he said something to the staff leaving me to check that everything was included.
It appeared that they had no experience with the deal, which is confusing as the deal had been running all over the Christmas holidays so it was no where near a new deal. Along with the fact that they didn't know what stock they had in the store, and were giving customers misleading information.
I was so paranoid that more things would go wrong that I had to check everything was included and was right before I even gave them the money as I had no faith left that they had completed it correctly. We knew what we wanted and needed but I feel sorry for people who don't and could get confused when you have the experience we had.
I may return to another Game store in the future to buy games, however I don't think I will ever be returning to that particular store as we had a bad first experience and don't think I would trust that store again. I still think the Game stores may be good at what they do however I have no faith in this particular store and in the future I think I will be wary with other game stores but will still give them the benefit of the doubt.
