      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Excellent product, shame about the packaging

Well, it's been a while since I wrote my last review, but have finally found some time to do some writing - so here goes!

I will start with Guerlain's Ombre Eclat 1 shade eye shadow which I have been using for a couple of years now. Guerlain produce high end makeup and skincare products, but are best known for their classic perfumes.

This eyeshadow is quite versatile in the sense that it initially goes on quite lightly, which looks great in the daytime but can easily be built up for a glamorous evening look. Application is a doddle, it goes on very smoothly, it does come with its own sponge applicator, but I never use these, as I have said in earlier reviews they are never up to much. Guerlain describe this particular applicator as "practical and clever" as it is both wide enabling it to cover the whole eyelid and pointy allowing for precision - but I find that claim quite laughable really, as these 'included' applicators go, it's not too bad, but it certainly does not allow for precision, I find MAC's shader brush (no 242) a much better option for this product. It's a shame Guerlain's makeup brushes are limited to powder brushes.

I use this with Guerlain's Ombre Eclat Eye Primer, which helps it stay on all day and prevents creasing - I will write a separate review on the primer at a later stage. But I do find that this eyeshadow has excellent staying power on its own, and really does last all day, remaining crease free without the need for touch ups. It is easily removed with a good eye makeup remover, at the moment I am using Clinique's 'take the day off' but it has worked just as well with other brands, such as Lancome or Clarins.

I own it in L'instant Émeraude (181-dark green) and L'instant Indigo (190-dark blue), and it comes in 14 shades including pink, lavender, black ,greys, copper as well as browns and creams. The eyeshadow has tiny light reflecting particles that give it a slightly shimmery effect which looks subtle rather than over the top.

Presented in a bulky gold compact, which I must say does not really suit my taste, as I think it's a bit old fashioned. The gold is quite a light (rather than bright) yellow gold and is also prone to scratching, and as these eyeshadows are designed to last, that is a shame really. I have had the green one for over a year and although I haven't carried it in a makeup bag much - a couple of house moves and more trips abroad than I care to disclose, the compact is looking quite sorry for itself.

The compact comes in a black velvet pouch inside Guerlain's standard black and gold packaging. You also get a good sized mirror, but I find this a bit unnecessary as you would not want to carry this around due to the bulkiness - and as it lasts all day you would not need to anyway!

Priced at around £20 you get a generous 3.6g for your money and considering that the colour is highly pigmented and that it has great staying power, I think it constitutes great value for money. Also this eyeshadow does not tend to crumble when it gets low, its four corners remain intact until the end, so that you end up using every last bit of it. It is available from most large department stores and online.

I would definitely recommend this product, but feel that the compact lets it down, Guerlain, if you are reading please, please do this product the justice it deserves, ditch the "applicators" and make some good makeup brushes!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Highly recommended

This concealer is a smoothing crème concealer that claims to disguise dark circles, lines and shadows, soothe away puffiness, moisturise and protect - whoa!

I bought it when my usual stick ran out and fancied a change.

I had never tried a liquid concealer before and am very pleased with its appearance on my skin, it covers my under eye dark circles effectively without them looking caked up and corrects those horrible shadows I get in the corners of my eyes. Haven't got many lines yet to comment on - but as I am nearly 30 it won't be too long!

I'm not sure if I need it to moisturise and soothe/protect my skin as I use a good eye cream anyway and can't say that using this on top of it has improved the skin around my eyes any further! That's just my opinion though! I suppose it could be of benefit to those who don't use eye cream or use it more for spots than eyes - but again surely you would use a seperate spot cream? I get the odd spot and it does cover them well, again not looking caked up.

It's quite a dense formula that spreads very easily - I find it easiest to apply using my fingertips although you could use a brush for a more professional finish. It has a very light fragrance and lasts very well with no need to reapply.

The light shade suits my skin tone perfectly and it's also available in barely mauve, medium and deep to ensure a good match. It contains SPF which is always a bonus, and it's fine on my sensitive skin.

One of the best things about this product is the tiny amount of concealer that is dispersed from the tube with a gentle squeeze making it easy to get the required amount - the tiniest dab goes a long way - I have had this since last summer and it's still going strong!

Packaged in a dark blue box it comes in a 15ml dark blue tube with a gold screw top lid, priced at around £15 (as it does last well I think it's excellent value for money) it's available from department stores, online and in some larger high street chemists.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I'll always go back to MAC.

MAC's eyeshadows are my favourite and the colour "Shroom" has become an essential addition to my make up bag upon discovering it a few years ago.

The light mushroom colour and creamy slightly shimmery texture are not too over the top and as with most eyeshadows you can build up the colour for a more intense finish.

I use a light coating of this as a base shadow from lid to eyebrow, and as well as being very easy to apply with a wide eyeshadow brush, it has excellent staying power - no need to retouch this one, I then use darker colours on my eyelid. Also remains crease free which is very important with eyeshadows.

My eyes are quite sensitive to some eyeshadows but had no problems with this and it comes off easily with make up remover.

Suitable to any age group, I find it quite versatile - could also be used as a highlighter.

Comes in a professional looking black plastic pot with a flip top see thru lid bearing the MAC initials on it and no brush - I think this is great as it saves on wasted plastic - I always throw the brush away.... Don't we all by now???

There are an amazing 142 colours to choose from in 10 different finishes ranging from Frost to Velvet. Shroom is a matte eyeshadow.

Priced at around £10, you get 1.5g of eyeshadow, it can be purchased in MAC shops and selected department stores, or online but as I've mentioned before MAC's downfall for me is there are not enough places to buy it.

Would definitely recommend this product, I think it's the best eyeshadow I have ever used. Oh how I wish MAC would open up more counters.....

Gives you a lovely, easy to apply golden glow

Love MAC make-up products, and this is no exception, I bought this in a rush at the airport, I was going abroad and had realised I'd left my usual one on the kitchen table.

A very fine powder, it leaves a definite glow on my cheeks with a subtle hint of shimmer and has great staying power, but best of all it doesn't give that awful orange tint which so many bronzing powders do.

Would be suitable to a bronzing powder amateur as it's very easy to apply and not too full on. Also I find that it lasts all day so no need to re-apply which is always a bonus. I use MAC's 116 blush brush but any decent quality blush brush would do.

My shade is Golden but in true MAC style there is a shade to suit every skin tone these include:

Refined Deeper Bronze - Very Blatant hot bronze with low-shine pearl finish
Golden - Muted golden tan-beige with golden shimmer
Refined Golden - Finely spun golden with soft pearl finish
Bronze - Muted bronzed-brown with golden shimmer
Matte Bronze - Shade description: Bare shouldered bronze

I gathered this information from MAC's website and comparing the colour on the screen to the one in my hand it's a very close match but I would still strongly recommend you visit a store to check which colour would be best for you.

Have owned this for about 4 months and it's still going strong even though it has been used almost everyday - so it also goes a long way, making it excellent value for money.

Comes with a decent sized mirror in a black plastic compact case, with the MAC logo printed in gold letters on the top of it, and a decent sized mirror - I'm a big fan of MAC's no fuss - although still stylish packaging as it makes me feel that I am paying for the actual product rather than for it's packaging.

Priced at £14 there are 5 shades to choose from and you get 10g for your money.

It can be purchased in MAC shops and selected department stores, but MAC's downfall for me is there are not enough places to buy it, I know its easily available online, but what use is that if you need to check the colour?

          Disadvantages

My little balls of joy !!!

I'm so glad I have, I've wanted them for ages!! Finally got them for xmas - and here's what I think of them...

These are very finely milled powder pearls in a green, pink and beige colour that blend together to create a very subtle shimmer, its definitely not a blusher as it's too light - more of a finishing touch to brighten the complexion and give it a soft glow.

For me it leaves my skin with a glow without looking overly shiny or sparkly and just looks fantastic over foundation, and I can easily build it up for evening wear.

Disappointingly the effects don't last all day, it needs to be re-applied after a few hours, a big shame as this product isn't ideal for on the go application as it spills easily - I think it would ruin my day if these ended up all over the tube train!!! However I overcome this by using a retracting blusher brush with a lid - I just load the powder on and pop it in my handbag.

I apply this with a large blusher brush just rolling it over the balls in a circular motion to get an even blend - first just a bit all over my face then build up the colour on the cheek area.

Colour 01 Mythic would suit light to mid tone complexions, those with darker skin would probably prefer 02 Pink Fresh or 03 Beige Chic - also this product has the strong signature Guerlain scent - if you're not familiar with this it's a kind of sickly violet smell - personally I don't like it - it's a bit old lady for me but doesn't really bother me as the smell doesn't last long when its on the skin.

I have sensitive skin but this doesn't irritate it, or look caked up as many powders seem to.

A big surprise for me was that it's a cardboard container - I always thought they came in a metal one so was a bit disappointed but it's still one of the nicest things to ever adorn my dressing table. (According to Guerlain it was inspired by Marie Antoinette). Also comes with a powder puff but I threw it out as I prefer my brushes.

Priced at around £31.00 it can be purchased at most large department stores or online.

            A lovely treat

My introduction to Guerlain's Super Aqua range, this is a real treat. These cloth face masks were given to me as a Christmas prezzie, and now I'm thinking of buyin some of the range when my current moisturiser runs out.

It's easy to put the mask on - It has all the holes in the right places! feels lovely and soft , is lightly fragranced, and as with most face masks it's best to thoroughly cleanse the skin first as this optimises the effect.

Leaves me with quite a bit of gunk on my face, but I just rub it all in, it absorbs very quickly. Afterwards my skin feels amazing - super smooth, refreshed and positively glowing....a bit like a professional facial as opposed to my regular moisturising routine.

Sometimes face-masks bring me out in spots, as I have very sensitive skin but no problems at all with this one.

Suitable for special occasions, interviews, people with more time on their hands etc, generally I find cloth face packs are a bit faffy and time consuming but a nice luxury every now and then.

Come in a blue box with gold and white writing, inside are 6 individual sachets containing 1 face mask. Recommended use is once a week.

Priced at around £80, I think a bit much for face masks - would rather invest that into a good moisturiser - It actually says on the side of the box that 1 mask contains as many essential ingredients as a 30ml bottle of Super Aqua Serum.

It's available at most large department stores and online.
