Rock Star is a movie released in 2001 recently shown on Channel 4! starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Stephen Herek. The film also stars Jennifer Aniston and various cameo appearences from famous rock stars such as Zakk Wylde and Myles Kennedy. It was shot mainly in and around Los Angeles, but takes place in Pittsburgh.
The movie tells the story of the life of an '80s heavy metal band, Steel Dragaon and includes the highs and lows of fame, drugs, rock and roll, and groupies.
The film was inspired by the real-life story of Tim 'Ripper' Owens, singer in a Judas Priest tribute band who was chosen to replace singer Rob Halford when he left the band.
George Clooney, makes his executive director debut with this film and co stars with Wahlberg inThree Kings and The Perfect Storm.
The film deals with the relationship between the main character Chris and his girlfriend played by Jennifer Aniston and as a girlfriend of a musician I could relate completely to the struggles that you go through whilst trying to support your man!! He inevitably gets into drink and drugs and has run ins with groupies so therefore the relationship suffers - I wont spoil the story but there is a happy ending if you bear with it!!
Its a great story but if you dont like 80's rock then you will probably find it way too cheesy but its a good love story with a great soundtrack!!
The author is Victoria Hislop, an award winning British author who worked in publishing and as a journalist before becoming an author.
Her first novel was this particular one - The Island, and what a way to start!!It has been hailed as "the new Captain Corelli's Mandolin, was a Number 1 Bestseller in the UK, its success in part the result of having been selected by the Richard and Judy Book Club for their 2006 Summer Reads.
It was because of this recommendation that I decided to read it, and after reading the info on the back was to be honest a little put off. I didnt really see any enjoyment about reading about a leper colony. However I was told to read it anyway by my cousin who said it wasnt as depressing as it sounded! So I gave it a go and am chuffed that I did.
Many people said it had a slow start however I didnt think so, I was gripped from the begininng.
You are instantly transported to Crete where you get drawn straight in to the ambience of the island and then you get to learn about the history of a tiny island situated off Crete called Spinalonga. Now I have been to Crete numerous times and never fancied the day trip to see a leper colony!! But boy do I want to go back now and see it. The history of it is fascinating and you really get to experience what happened during this tragic time when leperacy was rife.
The story is of a girl called Alexis Fielding, who knows nothing about her family's past and has always resented her mother for refusing to discuss it. The only thing she knows is that her mother, Sofia grew up in Plaka, a small Cretan village, before moving to London. She decides to visit Plaka to see the village where her mother was born, Alexis then discovers that the village of Plaka faces the small, deserted island of Spinalonga, which she learnt was Greece's leper colony for much of the 20th century. She then meets a lady called Fotina who tells her for the first time the whole tragic story of her family. She tells her the story of Eleni, her great-grandmother, and of a family torn apart by tragedy, war and passion. She discovers how intimately she is connected with the island and with the horror and pity of the leper colony which was once there, and learns too that the secrets of the past have the power to change the future.
Please please read this book, its truly fascinating and beautifully written. You wont want to put it down and if you are interested in either Greece, History or both then you will absolutely love it.
A fantastic, feel good eighties movie which will appeal to all people of all ages if you like 80's movies! That is the important thing - do you like eighties cheese! If not then dont watch this film.
Without spoiling the plot it is about a young guy from a backwater town who wants to make it big in the city and prove himself to his overprotective family. So he moves away and cons himself into a great job, I wont tell you how cos it will spoil the plot.
Main character is played by Michael J Fox and if you like his other movies you will love this one as he portrays the main character very well.
The soundtrack was also released to this film with the title track being sung by a rock band called Nightranger. The entire soundtrack is great and adds to the feel good factor of the entire movie.
This is a fairly new addition to the Boots No 7 range however in my opinion a good one. I am a sucker for lip glosses and buy loads of them on a regular basis however I normally use them for a week or so and then buy another!! However, this one is different - I Love IT!! I bought 2 of them, one is a sugar pink and one a deep rich red colour, both of which are great. They are £8.50 each so not cheap however the bottle is quite big so I think they should last a fair while. There are not loads of shades available, i think there is about 6 colours, a beige, sugar pink, brown, peach, red and a few others.
What is different about these is that they are HIGH GLOSS so are very shiny when you put them on. they are not gloopy or sticky but go on with the wand very smoothly and stay put. The applicator like I say, is a wand that fits in the bottle.
I am a recent convert to Butternut Squash and to be honest have never really know what to do with them. They are a root vegetable that can be roasted, mashed, blended in to soups and are very tasty. They taste like a cross between a sweet potato and a swede and when roasted are very delicious with a crunchy outside and sweet inside.
The butternut and related species of squash originate from around Mexico this is different to pumpkins or "winter squash", which originate from South America.
It has yellow skin and orange fleshy pulp and you have to dig out the seeds inside before preparing to eat however these can be roasted and eaten if desired. It is very similar to a pumpkin inside as it is a part of the same family and is in fact called a butternut pumpkin in Australia.
It is excellent in any diet or healthy eating plan and is a good source of fibre, vitamin C, manganese, magnesium, and potassium. It is also an excellent source of vitamin A.
My favourite recipe for it is either butternut squash soup with a slight sprinkle of curry powder or a risotto with roasted butternut squash and chorizo, it is absolutely gorgeous!
Well, I have only just watched this after having it on my Sky Plus for ages. To be honest I really expected it to be a poor effort at a horror movie however it really could rival some top horror moviezs that have been made.
It is written by Charlie Brooker who is known for his comedy however this was released on Halloween originally in 2008 and screened on E4 in a 5 part series. It was then released to coincide with Celebrity Big Brother in a 3 part series on Channel 4.
So what is it about, well it takes the mick out of everything that big brother is and everything that zombie movies are. It is set around a series of BB showing behind the scenes with all the production staff. It then shows how quickly the Zombies spread so that all around are dead but the bb housemates are still on the inside wondering what to do. It is very graphic so if you have a weak stomach then dont watch it but it really is a grippinbg series worth a watch
Alter Bridge have been my favourite band ever since I heard they had risen from the ashes of one of Americas best selling bands - Creed. It is basically Creed minus Scott Stapp which is not a bad thing- particularly with the addition of an immense vocalist called Myles Kennedy who used to sing in a band called the Mayfield Four.
Their first release was One Day remains and for a debut album it is phenomenal. They are a heavy yet melodic band with meaty guitar riffs which are incredibly powerful for a one guitar band. It is not surprising that it was rumoured that Myles was asked to sing for Led Zeppelin as his vocal range could match that of Robert Plant. They toured with this album a few times and were great live. I would say Open Your Eyes is the most known song on the album but My favourite is a ballad called In Loving Memory which was written by Mark Tremonti the guitarist after the passing of his mother - a real tearjerker, particularly live.
I chanced upon this website years ago before it became the phenomenon it is now. The name stands for "AS seen on screen" as it sells clothes similar to the ones seen on celebrities in the press but at a much more affordable price.
They sell everything from clothes to jewellery, accessories, shoes, and more recently cosmetics. They offer a male and female range so really is something for everyone.
I have only ever had one item that I thought was poor quality and I have ordered hundreds so not bad really! They always have really great sales also with many items from the £5 mark, I have always got comments on the items I buy from there also as not many people have seen such different stuff, very unique! There is a postage charge but its not massive and you can always watch out for the offers where they give you free delivery if you spend over a certain amount.
Yumm! These are so gorgeous, probably not too great for the waistline though! They offer various flavours such as Strawberry, Banana and Chocolate but also more unusual one sometimes on limited edition such as choc fudge and a vanilla one at the moment which is gorgeous.
They come in a good bottle too however a bit big to fit in a lunchbox! I would recommend them for someone if they have skipped their lunch and need to grab something on the go though as they really do fill you up due to the sheer volume! There are no artificial colourings or flavourings and they are also Gluten free. It does also say that there is less than 1% fat in them but that seems hard to believe as they taste so great.
They are often on special offer at Morrisons too on either 2 for 1 or 2 for £1.50 which is great value however I think they are normally around £1 each.
I first placed an order with Abel & Cole because they were doing an offer through quidco where you got £5 back for your first order of any amount!! Amd free delivery! Cant complain at that really. I ordered some beefburgers, which were fantastic as you could tell it was a high conten t of meat rather than grain or rubbish! some organic lemon squash, not overly keen but ok, some butter which was delicious..very creamy, and some organic milk, which although said semi skimmed was very creamy so more like full fat.
They were delivered on the day that it stated and left round the back as instructed..all went to plan! They also left a few ice packs surrounding the food in order to keep it cool which I thought was great as I have kept the ice gel packs and reused them in picnic bags! All in all I thought it was a very professional company with high quality produce although at normal prices a bit on the expensive side. Nice for a treat though!
I first had a Chinese Hamster at the age of 17 so quite a late starter for small pets! however it was a great decision.
The chinese hamster is much smaller than your normal hamster and is probably a similar size to a small mouse. They are mostly greay in colour with a dark stripe down the middle of their back. They are very easy to look after and feed on normal hamster food.
I found the few I had very very friendly and they very rarely bit me as long as they were handled straightaway so as to get used to me. I used to let it out of the cage on a daily basis and often sat on the sofa with it beside me!
They dont live too long though and i think on average 2 years is about right but if you are thinking of a pet that is easy to look after and cheap to buy at about £8 this is a great choice.
This is in my opinion the best rock festival that is around. I went for the first time last year and absolutely loved every minute of it.
Firstly, it is set over a 4 day period in June with the first day being a warm up day with some smaller bands. They then have a headliner the next 3 evenings which has been bands such as Judas Priest, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Poison and such like. The ticket price is obviously dependent on the swedish exchange rate but works out at approx £160 for the 4 days.
The festival site has around 5 stages and has tons of food stalls and merchandise based around so its not a problem to find something to eat. Drinks are fairly expensive at about £5 per beer or wine and only food and drink purchased there is allowed in.
There is a campsite just outside where you can stay that has toilet blocks and toilets to share and Im sure its no more than £20 to pitch a tent for the 4 days.
You could stay in one of the nearby towns such as Kristianstad, Solvesborg and suchlike as there is a bus going to and from these town throughtout the day and night which you can purchase a ticket for and use at your leisure, some of the towns are a good 40-50 min driveaway though so be warned!
It is an amazing experience without the usual madness of some festivals, plenty of familuies are sat around and you can watch bands without getting completely squashed!
I used Swift Cover after it coming up cheapest on Moneysupermarket and decided to give it a try after alwasy being with Diamond.
When I did have to make a claim they took about 9 months to settle it even though the other party admitted liability and it was an easy claim! They were also never available on the phone and I left numerous messages for noone to ever phone me back.
The customer service staff although friendly enough didnt ever really know what they were talking about so I guess maybe they try and cut costs this way.
Even though the premium per month was about £10 cheaper they were really that bad I would rather pay the extra.
I then wanted to change my car to something a bit bigger but not particularly fancy however they would not provide any cover!! This was for no apprent reason. I really would advise people to steer clear.
I chose an Easjjet flight to get to Faro in Portugal and to be fair the flight there was not too bad. The whole experience was ok too but I did pay for some extras such as extra leg room, confirmed seats etc so wasnt as cheap as it could be. However we got there on time so I couldnt really moan. The only problem on the way there was that the flight was full of hen parties and very young same sex groups. Now I am only 31 myself and enjoy a good laugh however I did have a small problem with a group of 8 women drinking heavily at 5am and being allowed by the cabin staff to continue drinking to the point of the bar running dry! They were obviously very drunk but the cabin crew could not control, them, I thought this was not allowed on flights??? If I had had a small child with me I would have been devastated as their language was foul. Anyway, I passed this off as a one off.
However onj the return flight after an hours delay we were informed that the flight was too heavy!!!! So 4 people had to get off! This took another hour to sort by which time we had long missed our slot. therefore we were hours late on our return. The flight back once finally on the plane was also badly run by the cabin crew who seemed unable to control people or even serve a drink with a smile. Oh well, I guess that is a budget airline! Delays, bad attitude and bad flight calculations!!
I bought this food for my small dachshund after him eating it at a friends house. This was a miracle in itself as he is a very fussy eater. I read a few leaflets which explained it is one of the most natural diets for dogs with all the nutrients they need included. It is available in various size bags and a 2kg bag lasts me a whole month for a small dog at a cost of £7 which i consider to be very cheap. There are different varieties but i chose the chicken but i believe there is lamb and also fish for dogs with sensitive stomachs. There is also a senior variety for older dogs. It is quite hard to find stockists but if you go on their website then you can type in your postcode and it will come up with the nearest places which is very useful. My dog loves it and he has never been a lover of dried food so it must taste nice!
It is made with up to 70% Fresh Meat
All Natural Sustainably Sourced Ingredients
Not Tested on Animals
It is a range of natural hypoallergenic dog foods, which are known to be gentle and easily digested and may help prevent potential allergic reactions so great if your dog is normally sensitive to various ingredients in other foods
High levels of fresh, succulent meat provides an extremely nutritious source .of protein to aid muscle development and satisfy even the fussiest eater.
