Reasons For Purchasing:
I am a huge Robbie Williams fan and when Robbie releases a new album into the charts, I am certainly one of the first people to rush out and buy it. I also have ever single one of Robbie's albums as I love his style of music and the way he performs his songs. I did get a sneak preview of a few of the tracks from this new album on You Tube a week before it's release and I honestly could not wait for this album to come out after hearing them. The songs I heard really sounded fantastic and some of them sounded a little bit different from Robbie's usual style indeed.
A Little Bit About This Album:
Reality Killed The Video Star is Robbie Williams tenth solo album. It was released on the 6th of November 2009 and reached number one in the charts in seven countries. It peaked at number two in the UK charts just falling in sales behind JLS's debut album. Reality Killed The Video Star is the first album Robbie has released in four years after his previous album Rudebox did not sell well and was slated by many for it's strange music style.
Reality Killed The Video Star was produced by Trevor Horn, but one of the songs called "Blasphemy" was written by Guy Chambers, so this album certainly has top writers involved. Reality Killed The Video Star got it's title from Trevor Horns song "Video Killed The Radio Star" which he sang with "The Buggles". Also on hearing about Michael Jackson's Death on the 25th June 2009, Robbie 'apparently' tried to rewrite his song called "The Protagonist" 'that should have been included on this album' as a tribute song to Michael, but he could not get the words to fit in to it, so he completely rewrote it 'with Don Blacks help' and called it "Morning Sun" instead.
I feel that this is a very strong album from Robbie indeed. It is a great mix of very uplifting guitar pop, beautifully sang music ballads and has an added bonus of some unexpected classical music blended into a few 'haunting and unique tunes'. Well to me this really is a great uplifting album and one of Robbie's best. It is an album that I have listened to continuously over the last few months without having to fast forward my CD player to miss out certain filler tracks that you get on many albums.
Each one of the tracks onboard this album is excellent and are all very different to listen to. They all tell their own unique little stories, are sang perfectly by Robbie and are accompanied by some great backing music also. There really is No weak fillers on this album. All thirteen songs are brilliant and could all be chart busting tracks if released. So far, to date, two of these tracks have been released into the singles charts and "Morning Sun" is due to be released off this album within the next few weeks.
Well, I was delighted after hearing this album. The first thing I thought to myself was "Robbie's back and in top form". I felt brilliant after listening to this. It certainly is a feel good album. Robbie himself has described it as "The Old Robbie" "The New Robbie" "And The Robbie No One Has Met Before". Well he is spot on. Reality killed the Video Star certainly has the old Robbie's Style of songs, a more recent disco/pop style, that we have heard from him in the last five years and we certainly do have an added bonus of being introduced to the new 'and improved' Mr Williams. I love the New Robbie! He comes across as more sophisticated and quite serious on this album. It is excellent!

Morning Sun is the first track on this album and this song gently opens it very nicely. Well being Michael Jackson's Tribute Song from Robbie and being written by Don Black, I really think that when it is released in the next few weeks that it is going to sell very well indeed. It really is beautifully worded in my opinion and gives an accurate account of Michael Jackson's life. The words chosen for this song are quite appropriate and the very last line is "Who Am I To Rate The Morning Sun". Well I think this really sums Michael Jackson up. He was an outstanding Music Artist in every sense and Robbie is saying "Who is he to compare or rate him".
Robbie really sings Morning Sun note perfectly. It is a beautiful music ballad that flows along gently until it reaches the chorus and then Robbie really blasts it out. It is accompanied by a beautiful piano and violin piece. It livens up with some light drum sounds and a great guitar rift near the chorus also. I really love Morning Sun a lot. The lyrics are fantastic. It is very relaxing when listening to this song and is great to hear Robbie meaning every word he sings. It is excellent and one of the best tracks on this album.
Rating From Me: 5/5
This was the first single released from this album and I did like it when I first heard it played, but thought the lyrics odd. It has now really grown on me and is a very fun song to listen to. It reached number two in the UK charts and was very successful in Europe. This is Robbie's biggest selling single in it's first week of sales since his "Rock DJ" song. This song comes across as showing Robbie as very confident. It really has a big chorus to it also that makes a huge statement. This was a great choice by Robbie as a comeback song.
Bodies is a great funky sounding track with plenty of electro sounds going on throughout it. Robbie chants out a lot in Bodies. It is quite repeated in words, but it really is an excellent and very up lifting song indeed. There is mention of bodies everywhere in the lyrics, from family trees to cemeteries and I actually don't quite get what Robbie's trying to say though with this one. You will be moving around to this song quite quickly though as it's a great dance tune indeed. Overall this song is great, a pleasure to listen to and another very strong track on this album.
Rating From Me: 4/5
You Know Me:
This is one of my favourite songs from the album. It is slightly different sounding, but is a typical Robbie Williams song as most of his songs are a self-parody. You Know Me was the second track to be released from the album. It peaked at number six in the UK charts. It has a lovely tune to it and it does grow on you a lot. It is a strange song from Robbie and you really need to know what he is singing about in this track. Robbie is telling us about his addiction to drugs and overcoming them. He is actually singing this song to the drugs he took. Robbie went to rehab a few years ago and watching the music video to this track really explains his experiences well. At the end of the song we clearly can see that that old 'Druggie' Robbie is clearly locked away. This song is accompanied by a lovely piano piece and has me toe tapping throughout it. The background music is played out of key at times 'on purpose' to give us a better feeling. It is a great fun track I really like.
Rating From Me: 4/5
This really is a beautiful song. I hope it will be released as I think it will do very well in the charts. It really is a haunting track and a different style from Robbie. This song was the last one Robbie wrote with Guy Chambers. Well Blasphemy is a slow moving ballad that is sang beautifully by Robbie. The background music is beautiful sounding classical music. It really makes the hairs on my arms stand up as it is hauntingly beautiful. In the middle of Blasphemy the orchestra music raises a knot and is played solely for a few seconds and is outstanding. I love the lyrics to Blasphemy a lot also. Robbie once again seems to be singing about himself and how he has behaved in his life. Well together with the beautiful music and fantastic lyrics this really is a top song indeed. One of my favourites from this album and one of the best songs I have heard in years.
Rating From Me: 5/5
Do You Mind:
Do You Mind takes on a different direction from the first four songs on this album. This song has not been released. It really is a very catchy and extremely likable tune indeed. This song is a fun, rock country type of tune with great guitar and drum sounds backing it. Even the lyrics are quite country sounding also. Wow! I love it. This is very different music from Robbie. Do You mind is quite repeated in lyrics, but it is extremely catchy. You really will be singing along to this track in no time. I think this song has double barrel lyrics about drugs, but comes across different and could refer to woman also. Well it is another very strong and catchy number that I personally love.
Rating From Me: 5/5
Last Days Of Disco:
This is my favourite track from the album. It is hard to choose this as my favourite 'as all the songs are really good'. This song is quite eighties sounding and might not appeal to everyone, but I like it's style. This song has not been released yet from the album, but I heard a rumour that it will be. Last Days Of Disco starts of quite slowly and really builds up into this huge powerful ballad. It is full of electro sounding keyboards and then become a big fanfare of drums, guitars, violin and keyboard sounds. It is very well put together. Well this song is excellent. It is a little bit like "Bodies"(only Better) with fantastic lyrics and a top track on this album. This one is a grower.
Rating From Me: 5/5
Well this is a lovely gentle and quite sarcastic ballad from Robbie. I do not think this will be released off the album as it is too short a track. It only lasts for one minute. This probably is a filler, but it's good to listen to. Robbie sings this quite childishly really, but it is fun to listen to with a nice gently backing tune to it.
Rating From Me: 3/5
Decepatacon was one of the tracks that grew on me really, but the more I played it, the more I liked it and it became very good to listen to. This track has not been released off the album to date. It is a strong song on the album that starts of with a slow piano solo before being joined by Robbie's angelic voice. It has quite strange lyrics to it really. Robbie is sending a message out to someone in this song. Maybe his Fiancé (although I am not too sure). It is a lovely piece of music though and finishes off with the words "Who Are You?" which keeps me guessing. It is another great included track overall and a nice relaxing song to listen to.
Rating From Me: 4/5
Starstruck is another eighties sounding track. It is very catchy. It has not been released off the album and I have not heard or read that it will be either. It is slow moving, but is very relaxing to listen to this one. It has a fast beat to it and gets slightly louder towards the chorus. Robbie sings this very well. It suits his voice also. Starstruck is all about everyone being obsessed with the Stars of today. This song is very space aged sounding in places, but extremely good to listen to overall. A nice little breath of fresh air from Mr Williams.
Rating From Me: 4/5
Difficult For Weirdos:
Whenever I heard this song for he first time, I was slightly taken back with the lyrics to it. Well Difficult For Weirdos has not been released of the album yet, but I really hope it will be. Robbie is telling us about people all over the world making fun of others who are different. Whether they are gay, dress differently or even look different, Robbie is telling us that being different is OK. It is great to hear positive words, although Robbie sings about people getting made fun of and he chants out with name calling. Difficult For Weirdos starts of as another eighties sounding electro pop song, but it quickens in tempo and becomes a loud and fantastic pop ballad indeed. It is another top track on the album that I think is absolutely brilliant.
Rating From Me: 5/5
Superblind is another strong track on this album. It has not been released yet into the charts, but apparently it will be later this year. It is a another beautiful love song, well it starts of like this with a slow guitar ballad, but it quickly raises in volume towards the chorus. Robbie really sings this song beautifully and with feeling. It is quite unique and should be a hit for Robbie if it is released. Superblind is a great song that is telling me about Robbie being heartbroken, but he soon wises up to the constant falling out with girlfriends. Well overall Superblind is a very strong track on this album. It is fantastic.
Rating From Me: 5/5
Won't Do That:
Won't Do That is once again is another catchy little tune from Robbie. It probably will not be released into the charts as there is better tracks on this album. It has great lyrics to it telling a story about breaking up with someone, but Robbie pledges that he would not cheat on them. There is great backing music throughout this track that is very loud in places. A great solo guitar rift can be heard in the middle and it fits into everything very nicely indeed. Robbie sings this very well and blasts out the chorus to get his point across. Another very catchy tune that is rated highly by me.
Rating From Me: 4/5
Morning Sun Reprise:
The final track is a short instrumental version of the first song "Morning Sun" and it very relaxing to listen to this beautiful piece of music really.
Rating From Me 5/5
My Overall Opinion:
This is a very strong album from Mr Williams. I personally think it is one of his 'best ever' as all the songs onboard it are fantastic. It is very well put together with a good mix of sounds and varied music. It's a blend of love songs, catchy pop tunes and fantastic classical music. There is also a little bit of rock and country from Robbie on board this also. Something for everyone. Well I am extremely pleased with Robbie's new album and I am very surprised with the amount of strong tracks it has.
Many of the tracks make me feel good inside after listening to them. It is quite an uplifting album and one to put on and listen to, to cheer yourself up with. It really is hard to find an album to play continuously from start to finish without fast forwarding certain tracks, but honestly I really enjoy every single one on this album a lot. I play it from start to finish nearly every time I listen to it and look forward to the next track that comes along. I really do think this album is my favourite so far from Robbie. I really am loving it and have not grown bored with it at all.
Robbie really sings all of the tracks very well and seems more serious to me in his songs this time around, as he can be a little bit sarcastic at times. Well the songs all tell their own very unique little stories and with great emotion from Robbie also. This is a fun album, but it will not be suited to everyone. If you like Robbie's music or style and are a fan of his, you really do have to get this album for your collection. It is Robbie at his best and this album has to be heard. It is fantastic.
I really do have to highly recommend this album. It is quite outstanding and very well put together. There is over one hours excellent entertainment onboard it. You will soon learn the words to all of the songs as a great little inlay booklet contains them all in the CD box. I am sure there will be some great tracks released from it soon and hopefully they will be quite big hits for Robbie. This is a great album and a pleasure to listen to. It gets 5/5 from me.
Reality Killed The Video Star can be purchased quite cheaply from Amazon UK for £6.98 at the moment.
Reasons For Using:
I have been using Lee Stafford's Poker Straight Flat Iron Protection Shine Mist for just over one month now. I had read and heard quite mixed opinions on this particular product from other users, but was interested in trying it out for myself just to see if it really was any good at all, as it is half the price of the Good Hair Day (GHD) straightening and shine spray that I often buy. I have used some of Lee Stafford's products before and have been quite pleased with most of them, so while shopping in Boots I decided to buy this Protection Shine Mist and try it out for myself.
What had me interested in this spray also is what it claims to do. I have very curly natural hair which I like to straighten out with my Hair Straightener's everyday, but they really do damage my hair, make it quite brittle and dry it out, as you are using quite an intense heat (210 oC) on it really. Well I use GHD's on my hair, but I find by the end of the day my hair starts to take on a slight kink to it again and by the next morning it is all very curly again. Well I really need a product just to hold my curls at bay a little bit longer and do find a lot of different straightening sprays do work well, but some can be a little bit pricey. My hair is also very dull and dry (as I dye it) so it certainly needs some protection from frequent hair straightening, so as this spray claims to protect, it was another reason why I tried it out.
What Lee Stafford's Flat Iron Protection Spray Claims To Do:
Well this Lee Stafford's Protection spray claims to give your hair a super smooth, sleek and straighter look. It apparently has Green Tea extract in it that will protect your hair from the hot irons of your Hair Straightener's and will stop the static that they cause. It claims to give a beautiful smell and shine to your hair also. The Green Tea extract also contains antioxidants which help protect from environmental heat damage, so this helps reduce free radical formation also.
A Little Bit About Lee Stafford:
Lee Stafford is a professional Hairdresser that has been in the business for over twenty years. He owns many Hairdressing Salons and claims to have spent years perfecting his own range of hair care products. He has a great website also with plenty of useful tips and advice on his hair products to read about. It is certainly worth checking out as I found some great information and useful advice on there.
Packaging/Design Of Bottle:
The Lee Stafford's Poker Straight Flat Iron Protection Spray comes in a very stylish and eye-catching bright pink, plastic bottle. It certainly is not hard to spot on the selves at Boots as it stands out more than anything else on display 'because it is so brightly coloured'. Well the bottle is a cylinder shape and 200ml in size. It is made of a thick, pink coloured plastic with the name Lee Stafford, Poker Straight Protection Spray and the size of the bottle, all clearly printed in white lettering onto the front of it. A giant white barcode is also printed onto the front. This huge barcode must be part of the design though as all Lee Stafford's products have one right at the front of them. Also printed onto the front of the bottle is the Lee Stafford emblem which is a little gold Bulldog.
On the back of the bottle you will find plenty of useful information on this product, directions for using it and a few useful alternative tips to try out for yourself. All the ingredients that are included in this protection mist are clearly listed on there also and so is the manufactures details and Website address. The bottle is quite slim and lightweight also, so fits into my handbag quite nicely and is easy to carry around with me.
Once this product is opened it should be used within 24 months (This is stated on the bottle). This Protection Mist is also highly flammable and should be avoided on broken skin. Care should be taken also when using it and it warns not to spray it into your eyes. The whole bottle can be recycled also, which is very handy.
The Directions Of Use:
* Spay the product onto damp, towel dried hair, at arms length.
* Blow-dry your hair and then use your Straightening Irons as you normally would.
A few Alternative Tips On Using This Product By Lee Stafford:
* Wash and blow dry your hair.
* Spray the mist onto a section of your hair that you usually take for straightening it and repeat over until all your hair is done.
How I Actually Use This Protection Spray:
* I wash and dry my hair.
* Just before I straighten my hair with Straightening Irons, I spray the mist 'generously' all over it, at arms length. This saves me spraying each section of my hair when I am straightening it and saves me time also. I also use this protection spray when my hair is not washed and if it needs straightening as it doesn't have to be really in my opinion, as this spray dries in, in seconds. It does exactly the same job I find on either wet or dry hair. Once you use this product, I think you will use this spray the way it suits you personally.
The Spray Pump:
The Lee Stafford's Protection Mist comes with a useful plastic lid to stop leakages if carrying it around with you in your handbag. It also has a spray pump on this product and I find it works very well. The spray pump is easily pressed down and lets out a fine mist over quite a good portion of your hair and I feel that three of four firm pumps of the spray will actually be enough to cover it all completely. It is a bright pink spray pump that matches in with the bottles design well. If you are doing your hair in smaller sections, it certainly does not let out too much of the clear mist spray either, if you press the pump down gently.
The Protection Spray:
Well when I first tried out the Lee Stafford's Protection Spray I was actually quiet taken back with the smell of it to be honest. It really was very strong and quite overpowering. In fact I am Asthmatic and had to go to the window for air as I breathed it in and started coughing, although I think it is hard not to when you spray it. It does not let out too much spray though. It is just so strong, very sweet and chemical smelling (like hairspray) that I honestly did not expect this aroma from this type of product. I think Lee Stafford needs to add something better to hide this smell (or eliminate something maybe). It is not unpleasant when it dies down though, but you can smell it permanently when it's on your hair. A tip from me: Use this product in a well ventilated room or walk into another room quickly after you spray it.
The mist from the Protection Spray is exactly that. A fine mist. It is clear like water and is not sticky to the touch. I find it dries very quickly, even without the heat from Hairdryers or Straightening Irons also, so this is good really. I do find though that it can be a little bit greasy on your hair after wearing it for a while. It does not make your hair look greasy, but you certainly can feel it from your hair if you touch it. I also feel it makes my hair a little bit heavier when I have it applied and my scalp is sometimes itchy the next day, but not all the time.
I have applied this Protection Spray a few different ways to my hair and I find it does leave a nice shine to it which I have not seen in a while. My hair is also less static after I straighten it, which I am pleased with and it certainly is not as dry or brittle like before. Well this Poker Straight Mist certainly seems to be protecting my hair from my hot Straightener's, so this has to be a good thing.
Well, Does It Work?:
Well apart from the awful smell to this product, I really have to say it does work very well indeed. This product really does claim to do everything on the bottle 'except make your hair smell nice'. I honestly think it's too artificial and sweet smelling for my taste though. It really reminds me of that perming lotion smell from years ago with a type of horrible strawberry scent added to it to try and disguise the chemical aroma, but this makes it worse unfortunately.
Well as I said above, when I do not use any straightening products on my hair, it really does start going curly again just a few hours after using my Straightening Irons on it. Well with this Lee Stafford Poker Straight Spray applied to my hair, I find it stays completely straight all day long and even the next morning my hair is still quite straight with very few curls. This Spray really does work very well at keeping your hair straighter for longer I find. I also find that when I have this Protection Mist on my hair, that one go over it with my Hair Straightener's to each section of hair is all it takes really to straighten it now and this saves me a lot of time than before.
As for protecting my hair from further damage caused by Hair Straightener's, I also have found that after only a month of using this Protection Spray that my hair is certainly not as dry as before and it feels in much better condition overall. It really does look much healthier and it really has a nice noticeable shine to it whenever I have this spray applied. My hair also tends to break a lot because I use Hair Straightener's so much, but I have found the amount of broken hairs on my clothes and floor much less now also and this is very good as I really was worried about the damage I was causing to it.
Well I think this Poker Straight Protection Mist really works very well and it really does help keep my hair protected from intense heat, keeps it more controllable, much less flyaway than before and in my desired style for a heck of a lot longer than before, which I am extremely pleased about. This product is certainly worth every penny I've spent on it. It has hardly gone down much in volume either when I look into the bottle at the liquid, so a little seems to be going a long way indeed.
My Overall Opinion:
I honestly think the smell of this product really needs improving. It is far too strong and artificial for me which is a shame really because everything else about the product gets top marks. It honestly will protect your hair from continuous straightening with hot irons and leave it in much better condition than before I find. It also will help to keep your hair straighter for longer, as my hair is very curly and without using this spray, I only get a few hours before it gradually begins to curl up into little ringlets again. Well This Poker Straight Protection Mist will keep your hair very straight all day long.
Well I really do recommend trying this product out for yourself. The smell does die down quickly and it is bearable I guess, but I think it is worth putting up with it for the results this product achieves. Beauty is pain (or smell after all). This Poker Straight Protection Mist is a lot cheaper than many similar straightening products on the market and that's what makes it more appealing to me. Hopefully the smell will be improved eventually to this product as it is very good at what it claims to do.
I unfortunately cannot award this Protection Mist a full five stars because of the obvious smell problem it has, but I will give it four stars for it's results. Honestly give it a try if you want your hair to stay straighter for longer as this product really does work. It will help stop those breakages, spilt ends and drying out those strands. It certainly will protect your hair overall 'in my opinion' from intense heat damage. Give it a try, but do open your window before using it each time.
I paid £4.99 at Boots for my Bottle of Lee Stafford's Protection Mist. Sometimes they do a three for two offer on this range, so do look out for it and use your Boots card also. I think £4.99 is a good price for this product though as it lasts well and is a lot cheaper than many others that I have tried before.
Reasons For Purchasing Meet Joe Black:
I remember watching "Meet Joe Black" at the Movie House around twelve years ago. I was quite looking forward to seeing it at the time as I do love Brad Pit as an actor and also admire Anthony Hopkins who was staring in it. Well I was rather surprised actually to find out that the film was nearly three hours long, which nearly put me off going in to watch it that night at the Pictures, 'but I did' and was rather surprised that those three hours went in quite quickly while watching it also.
Well a few years after Meet Joe Blacks release, I decided to purchase it for my DVD collection and also because my Husband had not seen this film himself. I really had enjoyed watching this Movie a lot and I knew my Husband would like this type of film also and of course 'I was right' as he said he thoroughly enjoyed it after he saw it. He has since watched it several times with me and it is still as good a watch as the first time around I find. You always seem to pick up on a little bit more of something you missed each time you watch it also.
A Little Bit About The Film:
Meet Joe Black was released in November 1998. It is classed as a Romantic Drama, but it does have a little bit of mystery, fantasy and humour to it also. In runs for 181 minutes, was produced by Martin Brest and also was Directed by Brest and Alan Smithee. Apparently Meet Joe Black is based on the 1934 film "Death Takes a Holiday" which I have not seen myself to compare it with. Meet Joe Black had a very good budget of $90 million to help make it also. The film was also edited in length to a two hour version for Television, but Martin Brest was really annoyed about this happening, so he now has totally disowned the Directors credit.
Meet Joe Black received some criticism on its release and was said that the running time of it was far too long and that it was quite boring 'which I personally think it was none of myself'. It did get equal amounts of praise though and was nominated for five awards, but only managed to received two of them and one of those was in "The Worst Movie" category. Well I personally believe it to be a great entertaining film and it certainly gets far more reviews from viewers praising it than ones which say anything bad about it. I really think the critics where far too harsh on this film in my opinion.
Brad Pitt ~ Joe Black.
Anthony Hopkins ~ William "Bill" Parrish.
Claire Forlani ~ Susan Parrish.
Jake Weber ~ Drew.
Marcia Gay Harden ~ Allison Parrish.
Jeffrey Tambor ~ Quince.
The Film begins with New York media tycoon William Parrish. William is nearing his 65th Birthday in this film. He suddenly starts to get chest pains in the first scene and he knows inside 'and upon hearing voices' that his death is fast approaching, but not quite on that day. Susan Parrish is soon introduced as Williams daughter. She is a Doctor and is going out with Drew, her Fathers second in command. Susan is at a Coffee Shop alone at the same time her father had his chest pains and she meets 'by chance' a beautiful young man who she talks to briefly for a few minutes. As they depart and Susan Walks off down the street, unknowingly to her, the handsome young stranger she just met is hit by a car.
Well, later at Dinner Susan's Father William introduces her to his new business associate "Joe Black" and to her surprise he is that dashing young stranger she meet earlier that day in the Coffee Shop. Joe does not seem to recognise Susan though. Well Joe Black needs Williams help really and in return he helps him also buy some time in this world. Well the story slowly unfolds from here with a few twists and turns. A love story also develops nicely along the way.
Introduction To The Main Characters And Their Performances:
William Parish is a very strong character. He is a powerful man and a President of his firm. He also is a very likable character in Meet Joe Black and he really grows on you quite quickly. I noticed also he is without flaws. He is the perfect Father and is still devoted to his dead wife dearly. He is played by Anthony Hopkins and what a performance he gives in this film. He really is at his best in this and plays his character with such energy and enthusiasm.
Joe Black is an excellent, mysterious character in this film. I certainly loved him from the very first scene as he suddenly changes from one role to another really. Well Joe is very polite, very good looking and very romantic, but comes across to Susan as a very different guy from the one she first meet at the Coffee Shop. Joe is 'well' quite zombie like at times and certainly gets noticed wherever he goes. Joe is played very well by Brad Pitt. I think the producer certainly choose the right guy for this role. He is great at acting his part, is quite funny and very witty at times also. He is quite the star in this film really.
Susan Parish comes across as a strong, but quietly spoken girl. She is quite good looking and is devoted to her job as a Doctor. I really liked her character from the word go in this film and wanted her to get everything she deserved. Susan really loves her Father a lot also. Susan Parish is played by Claire Forlani and she really is a great actress. Her performance in Meet Joe Black is excellent and it really was a pleasure watching her.
Drew is Susan Parish's boyfriend in the movie. He is smart, quite straight faced, very ambitious and helps William run his Firm. He turns out though not to be a very nice character in the film and one I want to see uncovered for what he really is. Drew is played exceptionally well by Joe Weber who also is a great actor.
Allison Parrish is the elder daughter of William Parish. She is a strong character also, but is a little eager to please at times. It is obvious that she is loved a little bit less and is slightly neglected by her Father William. She is very likable and is played by Marcia Gay Harden very well. Some of her scenes are very touching really. Allison is married to the character Quince in Meet Joe Black and he comes across as a 'not to bright a husband really'. Well he is quite witty at times, but often 'very dim'.
Of course there is plenty more enjoyable characters introduced at times throughout the movie and I find together with the main cast, the supporting cast all did a great job also. Meet Joe Black really has excellent characters and first class actors all on board it.
My Thoughts On Meet Joe Black:
Well, Meet Joe Black certainly is a great film. Yes! It is quite long and having three hours to spare can be off putting sometimes to sit down and watch a film for, but honestly it really is worth it. This film is a little bit different really from others I have watched. It takes on a storyline to no other film I have seen before so this was great. It really is a very relaxing, romantic film from the start, but it is not all about love and romance either as another great story develops equally along the way. It is half chick flick and half a mysterious type of storyline I would say. It is dark in plot also, but is brightened up a lot by its production. It certainly can be enjoyed equally by both men and women.
The whole Plot of Meet Joe Black was certainly very interesting and you are introduced to the Parish family and their relationships. We also do get to 'Meet Joe Black', watch him learn, get a little bit educated about Death and how we deal with it. We also learn quite a lot more, as it teaches us about love and hope also, which makes it a little bit easier dealing with Death really when it finally arrives. The film also shows us that even though the Parish family are quite wealthy, they really enjoy the simpler things in life a lot. It is also good to see a lovely Father and Daughter relationship highlighted also.
I found the film well directed and very well acted out. It is quite heart warning and emotional in places, but it certainly teaches us that anyone can have a heart if they really want to. It also does show us the value of a human life and about fearing death also. There was well directed scenes on honesty and power and it really did make me feel for the characters involved in them. It certainly had me involved a lot and I certainly did get to Meet the character Joe Black.
Meet Joe Black moves along at one continuous pace really. It certainly is not too slow like a few critics have said. It does quicken up a little towards the end, but at no time did I feel bored or lose a seconds interest in the storyline. There is enough going on in it to keep you guessing and very interested in what will happen next. I really feel it is a very relaxing film, an enjoyable storyline, funny at times and very romantic. The music played throughout it is incredible and had the hairs standing up on my arms in certain scenes. It really was very appropriate to the whole theme and fitted in beautifully.
Joe Blacks arrival into the Parish household certainly seems to disrupt it. He certainly loves to see how people really tick in the world. It is fun to watch his character unfold, is really interesting to watch what he discovers next and how he reacts to it. Joe Black really is a very odd character most of the time though, but he is lovable, funny and a pleasure to watch. In some scenes he really has not a clue about what to say in some circumstances. The things he does say are funny and don't make sense at times. At other times in this film though he really is away ahead of what is going on from everyone else. I think Brad Pitts acting is better in his serious scenes with William and he is great in the romantic ones with Susan also 'although in his comedy scenes, he does make me laugh out loud'.
Susan Parish really does not know what to think or make of Joe Black at times I found. It really is as if the romantic stranger in the Coffee Shop does not recognise her when he arrives at her home. This really is quite funny to watch from Joe's character, but annoying and frustrating for Susan's.
Meet Joe Black has quite a lot of large conversations throughout it which really are written very well and are excellent when William Parish is involved in them. He really is well spoken, intelligent and is great to listen to. I think Meet Joe Black was a success because of its intelligence and unforgettable performances.
Well I found Meet Joe Black a very intriguing film and I thoroughly enjoyed its adventure. I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would as I was a bit weary about it lasting for three hours, but It honesty did not seem like it. I remember watching this film open minded and with little enthusiasm when I found out the running time, but I should not have worried as it did not drag out. It is one paced and this is deliberately done to give the movie a certain feel. It moves along well in my opinion and is strung together very nicely.
The Music Throughout The Film:
This certainly is a film that you will notice the music score in. The main theme tune is played beautifully throughout it and gives it the overall feeling to this story. It is quite haunting and builds up loudly in certain scenes. It really is first class piano and orchestra music that is emotional and quite uplifting. It really helps to make the film I find. I actually bought the soundtrack to Meet Joe Black as it is excellent. If you do watch this film you will certainly see 'or hear' what I mean.
Scenes, Acting And Special Effects:
Meet Joe Black is set mostly in and around the Parish household in New York which is a high class society. It certainly is done very well and filmed in a very grand luxurious estate. Everything looks clean and perfect also. No expensive seems spared really. The furniture, clothes and lavish lifestyle is covered well and we clearly see the Parish family as millionaires. The lighting is very good I find also as the whole film and each scene inside and out of the Parish home seems to really shine out at you.
The camera also captures great facial expressions a lot from Joe Black which do take a little bit of a different approach and more so in a certain love scene. Instead of capturing body shots in this scene, they focus a lot on Joes facial ones and it is all done without nudity really.
There is not a lot of special effects in Meet Joe Black for the budget spent on it, but at the beginning of the film there is a great scene of Joe getting hit by a car (which is very unexpected) This looks very realistic and is well captured. I personally do not like a film with too many special effects as there is so many these days with no storylines to them.
My Favourite Quotes:
William Parish ~ "65 years. Don't they go by in a blink?"
William Parish ~ When I introduce you, and I tell them who you are, I don't think anyone will be staying for dinner.
The DVD I own has only got a theatrical trailer, production notes and filmmakers notes. There is now a new DVD ultimate edition available which includes the original 1934 film "Death Takes A Holiday", so this might be worth buying . A short featurette on the production of Meet Joe Black is also included on this newer DVD along with interviews from the cast and film makers and also photographs.
My Overall Opinion:
Well Meet Joe Black was an outstanding film in my opinion and I really feel that it was underrated. The performances by all the cast members is excellent and they do put in some of their 'best ever' in this film. The performances from Brad Pitt, Claire Forlani and Anthony Hopkins make Meet Joe Black all worthwhile. This really is a romantic epic, a fantastic drama story and a comedy, all mixed into one. It does not fit exactly into any genre really. It is quite a serious film also, but it does allow the comedy elements to it. You will not feel the time going in at all watching it. This really is a feel good movie about being in love and being thankful for being alive, although it did bring a tear to my eyes at times.
Well I think you will either absolutely love Meet Joe Black or hate it. I would say not to let the romance side of the film put you off it as it really is not all about that. It is more about death and being prepared for it and also shows how important life really is. The plot is in-dept and unique. The film shows greed in a sub plot and this is a good enjoyable storyline with most of the supporting actors involved. I honestly found enough going on in it this film to keep me very interested for the whole three hours.
To me, Meet Joe Back is one of the better films I have seen. I could watch it over and over again and still thoroughly enjoy it each time. It has great character development and is superbly constructed. I think it is quite a classic film now and should be seen. I really do highly recommend watching it as it certainly makes a great evenings entertainment. If you love Brad Pitt or Anthony Hopkins, you certainly will love Meet Joe Black also.
I really do have to award Meet Joe Black a full 5/5. It really is a very complex, heart-warming story, a very emotional plot and has an all star cast. Give it a go if you have never seen it before. I really enjoyed it and you never know, you might also. Meet Joe Black is also rated 12, which is appropriate in my opinion as there is no swear words, although it is a little complex at times. I think younger viewers will enjoy Brad Pitts good looks and also watching him perform in his comedy scenes.
Meet Joe Black has been shorted in length for television to two hours. It does cut out quite a lot of Anthony Hopkins character by doing so I found. I really do recommend buying it on DVD or even renting it out. It is for sale on Amazon at the moment for £2.98, so it certainly is worth buying if you are interested.
Reasons For Using CK One:
I have been using the CK One fragrance, on and off for over 15 years now. I was first introduced to this Eau de Toilette Spray by a friend who was wearing it one day and I certainly was seduced with the freshness of its aroma at the time I remember. Well having bought and received many bottles of it over the years, I guess I got slightly bored with its aroma and sampled many newer perfumes on the market, but none that I stuck with really. Well at Christmas time I was very pleasantly surprised to have received a bottle of it again as a gift from my Husband.
Well like all new gifts I received at Christmas, I had to open it up straight away and have a whiff of it. Yes, it certainly was how I remembered it as smelling when I sprayed it onto my wrist. It was fresh, unique and quite fruity really. It certainly was a pleasure to have this fragrance again in my collection as I really did like its scent a lot. It might be an older fragrance now, but it certainly remains very popular with many people 'even after 15 years from when it was first launched' and with both men and women alike, as it is a unisex fragrance. It is certainly suited for everyone to wear and if you have not done so before, I really recommend giving it a go yourself.
Calvin Klein have quite a few women's fragrances in their range now. I quite like their CK Be fragrance also, but it is just not as fresh or as pleasant smelling to the CK One brand I find. Calvin Klein's Obsession perfume smells very nice also as I remember, but CK One certainly is the nicest fragrance in their range as it smells clean and much fresher in scent. It certainly is unique also. It really is a very different everyday and casual scent to wear. It is quite a simple fragrance though, but it works very well in blends to suit both sexes also.
A Little Bit Of Information About Calvin Klein And CK One:
Calvin Klein founded his company in 1968. He first started out in business by designing and selling coats for men and women. Well his clothes where quite popular by 1970 and he started winning awards for his designs. Calvin Klein got a License to sell perfume in 1981 and launched his first fragrance called "Calvin" for men that same year. Over the next few years his fragrances became quite popular also. Well CK One was launched as a unisex fragrance in 1994 and became very popular with both men and women. It was the first unisex fragrance of its kind in the world and caused quite a stir at the time. It continues to be quite a popular fragrance today along with most Calvin Klein products.
The Gift Box:
The Gift Box the CK One Eau de Toilette Spray comes in is rather plain in my opinion. It is a unisex product though so it certainly is suited to both men and women. It really is a simple, light grey in colour, cardboard box, with the name Calvin Klein, CK One and the size of the bottle (mine is 100ml) printed in a deeper shade of grey onto the front of the box also. It does look quite modern though and certainly looks well enough to give and receive this fragrance in as a gift. Overall it is well designed and thought out, but nothing special really in my honest opinion.
The Eau de Toilette Bottle:
The bottle that the CK One Toilette Spray comes in looks more like a liquor bottle really. It reminds me of one I would buy a quarter bottle of Vodka in. To me though, this bottle is swayed towards the male side of the fragrance as it does look like a bottle my Husband gets his aftershaves in, but then again, it is plain enough for women to use, carry around with them in their handbag or even have sitting on their dressing table. Well, like the gift box, the bottle is nothing special either. It is made of white frosted glass, but you can see through it slightly, which is useful to me to see how much of the actual fragrance I have left in there. On front of the CK One bottle there is quite large C and K letters in silver, with the word "One" in smaller print fitted into the middle of them. At the bottom of the CK One bottle there is a little clear plastic sticker with the size of the bottle, an expiry date of 36 months from first opening and the makers name "Calvin Klein", printed onto it also.
The little spray pump to this fragrance is not actually fitted to the bottle when you first receive it. When you first open up the gift box, inside you will find the little spray pump separately. This fragrance is a unisex one (as I said above) so to me the spray pump is probably designed for women to use when it's attached. The bottle first comes supplied with a small silver screw cap and it is probably designed this way to be used as a splash bottle by men. Well I undid the cap on first opening my bottle and easily inserted the little spray pump inside. I just tightened it up and 'Presto'. It was fitted into place in seconds. I suppose it is a good idea really by Calvin Klein as it can be used two different ways.
Well the spray pump works very well on my fragrance bottle. It is easy enough to press down with my thumb and it lets out one quick spray of the white Toilette Cologne each and every time. I find that just one spray is ample for me to rub into my wrists each time also. Well the spray pump certainly works very well and does not let out too much of the perfume at all, which is good really.
The only downside to this fragrance bottle I found is that it does not have a lid with it. A lid is a useful cover over a bottle of perfume, as it prevents spillage or even blockages to the spray pump when it is carried around in your handbag. The spray pump does not leak though when I have carried it around with me, which is good, but a lid would have been very handy and helped to keep the liquid more secure inside.
Well overall the CK One fragrance bottle looks quite modern, is certainly suited to both male and females in my opinion and its spray pump works very well also. I do collect a lot of perfume bottles myself, but this one is nothing special at all, but still, it does make a nice gift I suppose. The whole bottle can be recycled also which I will probably do when it is finished as it is not worth keeping for my collection.
The CK One Fragrance:
Well to me Calvin Klein really did a good job at creating a fragrance that is equally suited to be worn by both men and women. They really have thought about each of the notes included in CK One and to me they certainly created a very unusual blend that seems to work well on everyone. Calvin Klein at the time must have had a hard job though finding a scent that is suited equally to both sexes as anything too flowery or masculine smelling certainly would not of worked at all. They certainly did try hard and created a good enough balance in CK One, but to me this fragrance is just slightly swayed more towards women, as it is a little bit flowery smelling to me. It certainly can be worn by men though, as it does seem to work for some reason.
I first remember smelling CK One from a friend and I absolutely loved the fruity freshness to it. It certainly is a very crisp aroma that is quite light to wear also. It certainly can be smelt though and rather pleasingly really. On first spraying CK One onto your wrist, you really can smell a lemony aroma which is one of my favourite smells and is probably what keeps me attracted to it. Once the initial smell has died down after five minutes you can then really start to smell a peppery aroma and certainly a hint of some Bergamot. After taking another sniff of my wrist I can smell the Mandarin included and it is beautiful. It certainly does not smell chemical at all and more a fresh fruity cocktail of blends that is rather quite unique.
Well after an hour of wearing CK One it really starts to take on a slightly different aroma to me. You can still smell that fresh lemony scent that it has, but it is then that you can also start to smell the Green Tea that is included in it also and the fragrance is really lovely at this stage. It certainly does get much lighter and quite quickly though, so you do have to take a little sniff of it from your wrist or have your hand quite close to your face to smell it. There is times though that I do get that lemony whiff of it just from moving around and it really is beautiful.
Well after wearing CK One for around three hours it really does start to fade away quite a lot from my skin and this is rather disappointing. You can still get a lighter whiff of that beautiful lemony and zesty aroma, but not as often really as I would like. When you take a sniff of this fragrance from your wrist you now can smell that musky blend that's included and it is rather nice as I love musk myself. You can really start to smell a more flowery scent as this fragrance fades from your skin. It really is lovely though, but just too faint for my liking.
Longevity And Strength Of CK One:
Well the Longevity is what I really think lets CK One down slightly. I do like fragrances that last all day, but CK One really fades away after a few hours of wearing it and I feel it needs topped up too often. There is plenty of fragrances that I have tried out that really do not last an hour on your skin, so I guess CK One is probably average in Longevity really to those other perfumes that I have used before. It does say though on their website that it should last six to seven hours, but it really does not. It is also classed as a casual fragrance so it is lighter to wear I guess, but I honestly cannot smell this fragrance from my skin after four hours of wearing it.
The strength of CK One is certainly not overpowering at all. It is perfect in strength when first applying it I find. It really is gentle on the nose, but yet perfectly constructed so that I get a blast of all those notes included in it when I first apply it. It really is a lovely fragrance when first wearing it and for those who do not like heady fragrances, then this certainly would be suited to you. It is casual wearing I agree, but it could also be worn as an evening fragrance if desired. Just be warned though. You will need to carry it with you in your handbag to top it up after a few hours.
To me CK One is a light Summery fragrance. It is full of fresh citrus aroma that does make you feel good when wearing it. I love the smell of its fresh fruits and musk and I really do think it works perfectly together to create this beautiful unisex fragrance. It is quite light, but holds confidence and it really is a pleasure wearing it. I just wish it lasted a little bit longer than it does to make it to the top of my favourite list.
CK One will certainly get you compliments also when you first have it on. Many friends have asked me what I am wearing and really do comment on the fresh and fruity scent that it has. My Husband likes me wearing this fragrance also and always comments on it, so I guess that is what is important. I have not yet come across a man wearing CK One, but it would be interesting to smell this fragrance on his skin also. I am sure it is very nice though.
*Lily Of The Valley.
My Overall Opinion Of CK One:
Well CK One would probably be right at the top of my favourites list if it was not for the longevity and strength of this beautiful fragrance. It really lets me down here. I like smelling a perfume a little from my skin a few hours into wearing it and unfortunately I do not get this with CK One at all. It really needs improving in longevity I find for me to continuously buy it. Saying that though the scent is really lovely on first applying it and one I really love taking deep whiffs of whenever I have it on. It is really unique and fresh in fragrance, but it certainly lacks staying power for me.
I really do think CK One is a lovely fragrance that contains many notes that I personally like in a perfume and it does work well overall. It really is a great casual fragrance to wear and is warm and Summery in scent that sure makes me feel good when I do wear it. I think a lot of people would like this fragrance myself as it certainly contains popular notes also. It is not overpowering at all either and this will suit many people. Of course you will either love it or hate it, but it is certainly a fragrance worth trying out for yourself.
CK One is a young, fresh and a feel good fragrance and would be certainly suited to all age groups in my opinion. It is more popular with women though 'as far as I can see', but I honestly think some men would like this fresh, casual Eau de Toilette Spray also as it has a slight peppery and musky scent in there also. You really would have to try it out for yourself though to see what I mean.
Well overall I would highly recommend CK One because of its beautiful fragrance. It is one of the nicest scents around in my opinion because of its lightness and zesty blends. It really does not last anymore than four hours on your skin unfortunately, so for its price (as it is quite high for a Eau de Toilette Spray) I think this lets it down. To have to keep reapplying it throughout the day, you do really get through the bottle of it quite quickly I find. Well I received my bottle on Christmas day and its just above half full so this is not good really.
It really is quite hard to award this CK One Fragrance four stars because of the price and longevity, but on the other hand it really is a beautiful smelling fragrance. Well to be fair though I will. The bottle is quite plain also, but it is a unisex product after all, so I guess it cannot be too fancy in design for the men really. Well four stars then it is from me. CK One really is one of my favourite smelling fragrances, but I really am let down with the staying power of it. There is plenty of worse ones on the market though, but they usually are a lot cheaper.
The CK One fragrance can really vary in price online. It also can be bought as part of a gift set or you can purchase shower gels, soaps and deodorants individually in this range also. Well I do not know just how much the husband paid for it but I listed a few prices from Amazon below if you are thinking of buying some. Do give it a try yourself.
30ml ~ £12.99
50ml ~ £16.99
100ml ~ £17.97
200ml ~ £31.24
Reasons For Purchasing Misery:
Misery is a DVD that I purchased for my collection quite a few years ago after being absolutely captivated by it's shocking storyline, after reading the book. I had read the book about one year before the film was released and I was quite excited that it had actually been made into a movie at that time, as I had really enjoyed reading the book so much. Well I could not wait to see the film back then and did so at the Cinema. I first bought a copy of Misery on video and then later upgraded it to DVD as it certainly is one of those stories that fascinated me and one which screenplay was as nearly as good as the book when made into a film, so it certainly was worth having for my collection.
Well Misery was released onto our big screens at the end of November 1990 and had a good budget of around $20,000,000 to help make it. It was written by Stephen King, Produced and Directed by Rob Reiner, runs for 107 minutes and was adapted for screenplay by William Goldman (who did a great job by the way). Misery was certainly well received at the time and liked by the majority of people who watched it and also got plenty of good write ups from the Movie critics. It certainly is one of Stephen Kings better adaptations I found and it certainly is a film to watch if you have not done so before.
Misery also won a few awards shortly after it's release and all of those awards where for the "Best Actress" role by the star of the show "Kathy Bates". She really was outstanding in Misery and played her character of Annie Wilkes exceptionally well. She certainly deserved the Academy Award, Golden Globe and CFCA Award she received for her role in Misery in my opinion. From First reading all about the character of Annie Wilkes in 'Kings' Novel the year before, I really was very surprised at just how well Kathy Bates played out this character. She certainly was just how I had imagined her to look and behave. I really do not think anyone could of portrayed her character better than she did in the film.
The Plot Of The Film:
Misery begins with Paul Sheldon (a best-selling novelist) who is driving home from his Colorado retreat where he has just finished writing his latest Novel. He gets suddenly caught up in a freak snow storm which causes him to crash the car he is driving and he gets seriously injured. As Paul lays trapped in his car and out of sight really, a Nurse called Annie Wilkes spots his car in the snow. Well Annie comes to his rescue, manages to get him into her car and takes Paul back to her home in the mountains.
Well Annie is also Paul Sheldon's "Number One Fan" and I guess she cannot believe her luck when she sees him. She is a bit of a head case also though and tells no one that she has found Paul in the snow injured and decides to look after him herself. She becomes completely broken though (literally) when she finds out that Paul has killed of her favourite character in his latest book. This is where the fun begins for Paul staying at Annie Wilkes house. A poor injured Paul finds himself in Annie Wilkes unstable hands and what an unforgettable experience he has with her indeed.
James Caan ~ Paul Sheldon.
Kathy Bates ~ Annie Wilkes.
Richard Farnsworth ~ Buster.
Frances Stern Hagen ~ Virginia.
Lauren Bacall ~ Marcia Sindell.
Graham Jarvis ~ Libby.
Jerry Potter ~ Pete.
Rob Reiner ~ Helicopter Pilot.
J.T. Walsh ~ State Trooper Sherman Douglas.
Short Introduction To The Characters:
The two main Characters in the film Misery are Paul Sheldon and Annie Wilkes. Annie Wilkes seems to be a bit of an obsessed loner and certainly has mental issues. She certainly is Paul Sheldon's number one fan as you will find out in the film and is worthy of the title. Annie is a very likable character though at times. Paul Sheldon is a famous novelist in Misery and comes across as weak and quiet at the start of this film, but he becomes a very strong character by the end of this movie and one we want to see fighting to succeed also.
The supporting characters only make cameo type of appearances as most of the film Misery only really focuses on Paul and Annie. The other characters do help make up the charm of the story though. The sheriff comes across as a warm and pleasant character set on uncovering Paul and plays his role in a subplot very well also.
My Thoughts About Misery:
Well, Misery is certainly a very shocking and totally surprising tale indeed. In fact it can be so far fetched at times, but at other times it certainly could be a very real life experience also. Based on the best selling chiller by Stephen King, Misery is turned into a tale of increasing suspense, entrapment and psychotic behaviour. From a viewer from the outside looking in, it really is quite a frightening experience at times and one that certainly has you captivated from the word go. Misery to me is a real suspense thriller with plenty of drama and at times it is more like watching a horror film. It does seem to be a well balanced mix though. Misery is set in what seems a very innocent and beautiful place, but you do get that growing feeling from the start of this film that something is just not right at all.
Misery really is a film that centres around two Characters. Annie Wilkes and Paul Sheldon. Annie Wilkes is certainly a Mentally unstable character in Misery. She certainly can switch her moods so believably that you really do not know what she is going to be like from one scene to the next or even what she is capable of next. You certainly can feel Paul Sheldon's tension inside every time that Annie enters the room. She sure makes you very nervous watching her because she really is so mentally unstable but is really very believable indeed. Kathy Bates certainly masters her role as this very believable psychopath without coming across as being too unrealistic at all. Well Annie Wilkes is very chilling to watch in Misery but can be quite hilarious at times also, making Misery a clever and somewhat dark comedy at times also. There is no doubt that Kathy Bates performance in this thriller is what makes Misery so memorable indeed.
Paul Sheldon when he gets to know Annie Wilkes a little in this film, soon realises she is an obsessed and an infatuated fan of his. He also plays his role of being terrified of her very well also. He also becomes a very convincing character and can sweet talk Wilkes at times. Paul also shows his frustration very well of being injured and trapped in Wilkes home. Paul Sheldon did kill of Annie's favourite character in his series of books though so you can see where she is coming from, but in a very extreme way. You can feel Paul's pain and deep hatred at times towards Annie also. He certainly plays his part exceptionally well also.
Misery is certainly one of those films that you will remember for along time after watching it. It is well acted out and with great direction. It really is set mostly in one place and at first Annie Wilkes comes across as a very nice and an extremely caring person. She does however become more domineering though and then a woman to be very fearful of. As the film unwinds you really can see Kathy Bates and James Caan feeding off each others performance and they really do create the tone to this film very well. They really help make Misery and balance the comedy, quirks and terror in a way that keeps me as a viewer totally engaged in it. Misery to me certainly offers plenty of comedy moments that help to stop the overall dreariness really. Misery really had me shocked and scared, but quite surprised at times really with everything that it hit me with.
I really think that because this storyline could actually happen in real life helps to make this film more chilling to me. You really are made to feel as if you are part of the film and hiding behind something, watching from a distance in each and every one of the scenes. Misery really is a brilliant piece of drama in my opinion that works on all levels well that really helps make it a very lifelike and a very successful film.
You certainly will feel the fear watching Misery also without really seeing it 'thank goodness'. There really is no gore, but there is plenty of dread, fear, suspense and terror that you can feel when you are watching a horror film. This to me is amazing and pure genius in filmmaking really and to me that is quite incredible that it was made this way. It really is a fantastic story, but it is certainly a lot tamer than the one in Stephen Kings fantastic Novel.
Misery is a film to watch on these long Winter nights, but maybe not by yourself if you are easily frightened. It is a film I have seen many times over the years and one that when after watching it really makes me think how good it is to be alive actually. Everything really is great bout Misery in a sick sort of way. It certainly steadily grabs you for its whole 107 minutes of the running time and holds you there, totally wrapped up in the whole situation. The whole build up in the story is very intense and really interesting I find. There certainly is never a dull moment when Annie Wilkes is around I can tell you. Misery for a scary movie is really quite an intelligent one. There is some issues in Misery I found also that do not come right out and address you, but they do leave it up to the viewer to decide about them, themselves.
Well Stephen King certainly did a great job in Misery of making the two main characters totally believable. The tension in Misery I found, builds up quite slowly until it really becomes unbearable. The whole situation in this film is really quite horrible, but it is certainly from a psychological point of view than of one of blood or gore. The violence really does create a deep impact on you but the storyline is a frightening and very realistic tale.
Scenes, Acting, Camera, Music And Special Effects:
Not only does Kathy Bates fit Annie Wilkes personality brilliantly in Misery, the camera does exceptionally well also at showing what sort of person she really is. In one scene it gives us a view from Paul Sheldon's eyes. He wakes up in one scene and opens his eyes only to see Annie standing over him 'about three inches from his face.' To me this shows how smothering and obsessed Annie Wilkes really is and it is captured very well indeed. Another scene shows a brutal and very realistic part of the storyline and this is captured very well also.
Misery is set in perfect surroundings really. The snow covered mountains and scenes look great even today in this 20 year old movie. Large fir trees stand proudly against the picturesque backdrops to create the whole isolated affect to this film. Most of Misery is set in Annie Wilkes home and shows her bookcase and the Novels by Paul Sheldon like more of a shrine to this author. The special effects are done well and even though this is a thriller/horror tale, we really do not see blood or gore, but the way it is put across in camera angles and acting skills, really gives you the overall horror effect of certain things in your mind, of things that take place in this film and makes you cringe and look away at times. It really is very, very cleverly done.
The acting in Misery would be very hard to beat in my opinion. Caan is outstanding, but Kathy Bates really is the star of the show here and deserved her awards for this film. A very well acted out film by all involved. Paul's make up is well-done also and shows him pale and ill after the car crash at the start of this film.
The music throughout the film Misery also was well done and each song helped to created the atmosphere to each scene extremely well also. The music is quite haunting in sound really and played slightly out of key to give it a more realistic and somewhat terrifying feel I guess. Well it is very well placed and carefully chosen in my opinion.
My Favourite Quotes From Misery:
(1) Annie Wilkes: I am your number one fan Paul. There is nothing to worry about. You are going to be just fine. I am your number one fan.
(2) Annie Wilkes: I thought you were good Paul... but you're not good. You're just another lying old' dirty birdy.
(3) Annie Wilkes: Now the time has come. I put two bullets in my gun. One for me, and one for you. Oh darling, it will be so beautiful. 'Yikes!'
The Title And Other Information:
Just a note: Misery actually gets it's name from Paul Sheldon Novel he is working on in the film. Annie Wilkes Pig in the book, if I remember rightly, was named "Misery" also after Paul Sheldon's imaginary character. I honestly cannot remember ever seeing the Pig (and rarely heard mention of it) in the film though and was quite surprised by this. I guess the title suit's the film though without the Pig really being introduced like in the book, as it certainly is about one mans true Misery indeed.
Also in the film Misery, a lot of the things that actually happen to Paul Sheldon in the book have been toned down and one of them was actually excluded from the film. I cannot say which part as it would spoil it really. The book is certainly better than the film though and should be read also to see the slight differences in my opinion. The Film is a very good adaptation to the Novel.
No extras are available on the original release of Misery that I own except for a film trailer and a teaser. Misery though has now be remade and a special edition is now available that apparently includes commentary from the director and producer, a photo gallery, a short documentary, scene access and a Musical Misery Tour featurette. I would like to upgrade to this DVD or hopefully Blu-Ray myself as I am quite a fan of this film.
My Overall Opinion Of Misery:
Misery is one of the best thrillers that I have ever seen. The book is a top thriller also and I recommend reading it first and then watch the Movie if you never have seen it before. It is an excellent drama/thriller indeed and one of Stephen Kings best in my opinion. Annie Wilkes is certainly one of the best characters that King has created so far. Thrillers do not come much better than this one and if its your genre and you have not seen this before, you really must, as it will not let you down at all in my opinion.
Misery really moves along at a steady pace I find. It is not drawn out either and builds up to the ending rather nicely. I still enjoy Misery today the same as when I watched it for the first time, nearly 20 years ago. It is a sort of film that has not dated much either. It certainly was one of Kings most successful storylines he has created so far. Misery might not be suited to everyone though as it is quite hard-hitting at times. There is violence and fear onboard it and it contains bad language also. It really is quite a powerful film, but it certainly gripped me. Of course no film ever lives up to the book in my opinion, but Misery is certainly one of the better adaptations out there. The book was very cleverly brought to life in this film indeed.
Well I certainly would have to highly recommend Misery to everyone who likes a good Thriller. It is one of the best films you will see in this genre in my opinion. It really is a very effective suspense story that is simply superb in every way. It is a straightforward and uncomplicated film really with a good balance of quite serious drama, some horror and light humour that really will keep you completely captivated from beginning to end. It certainly is one to watch and highly recommended by me. I will also award this brilliant thriller 5/5 stars. It does not get much better than this, so watch it!
Stephen Kings Misery is rated 18. This certainly is very appropriate in my opinion as Misery contains scenes of violence not suitable for some adults eyes at times. It also contains plenty of swear words and I certainly agree with this rating for it.
Misery can also be purchased on DVD for just under £6.00 from Amazon. A new special edition of the film can now be bought also I believe.
Reason For Using:
I never really thought I would ever be using any perfume by Paris Hilton in my life time and was very surprised when I received a bottle of it from her "Just Me" range for Christmas from my best friend. I have nothing personal against Paris Hilton either, but I really thought her products where aimed at younger teenaged girls so was quite curious as to why my friend had chosen a perfume by her, to give to me as a gift. I am in my late thirties and this fragrance would of been something I would of picked out for my teenaged daughters to wear. My friend also knows that I am not too keen on celebrity fragrances either because they really do not wear well or last in strength very long on my skin.
Well I had never tried or even smelt the "Just Me" perfume before, but was very keen to give it a whiff on Christmas morning, so I opened up the packaging and bottle straight away to try it out. I have tried out Paris's perfume before though, as my daughter had received "Heiress" for her Birthday, but it is not one I would personally wear myself. On first impressions of smelling "Just Me" I thought it was a very similar fragrance to Lancôme's "Miracle" perfume which I quite like really, so was very surprised indeed with "Just Me". I have also read many mixed reviews on the" Just Me" perfume by Paris Hilton so I thought I would review this fragrance myself and give my own personal opinion of what I honestly think about it.
A Little Bit About Paris Hiltons Perfume Range:
Paris Hilton launched her first perfume 'which is actually named "Paris Hilton" in 2004. It was quite popular at the time and seems to have sold well. She has to date, six perfumes under her name and a few men's fragrances also (although I do not think I would buy my Husband any of them for obvious reasons). Paris won the "Celebrity Perfume Of The Year" with her "Heiress" perfume range (despite being crowned "Worst Celebrity Role Model" of 2006). Well it looks like her fragrances will be around for a while also as they do seem to sell quite well and are popular with the younger girls. Most reviews are actually good ones about her products though 'to my surprise'. Paris's " Just Me" perfume range was launched in 2005 and although I have read mixed reviews about this particular fragrance, the majority of them are actually quite good ones.
Gift Box Of The "Just Me" Perfume:
The gift box that the "Just Me" perfume comes in actually is quite nice in my opinion. It is a metallic pink and silver gift box with the words "Just Me" printed in a deeper shade of pink on the front of it and it has all the information you really need to know about this perfume clearly printed on there also. All of the ingredients included in this perfume are clearly stated on the back of the gift box, which is useful I find. The gift box also comes with an outer removable sleeve, that fits over the gift box and it looks very nice also. This outer sleeve is finished in black, has a picture of Paris Hilton herself posing in a beautiful red dress and she is looking very elegant indeed. I personally think it is a nice touch that's been added to this gift box as it makes it look quite expensive, but it was quite an initial shock being handed a Paris Hilton product with her photograph on it as I certainly would never have chosen it myself.
Well overall I really think it is a nice girly gift box that this perfume comes in and it certainly looks good enough to hand to a friend as a gift in also. The outer sleeve can be completely removed though and it could be handed to a friend in the pink and silver gift box that's underneath it so that Paris Hilton's photograph is not the first thing your friend sees when unwrapping it, as it could be off putting for some people who do not like her.
A Little Quote From The Back Of The Gift Box Reads:
This fragrance turns heads. You will be asked, "What are you wearing?" With a smile you reply, "It's "Just Me!" By Paris Hilton. Read on to see if I agree with this.
The Perfume Bottle:
On first seeing the "Just Me" perfume bottle I was very surprised that it was very bight pink in colour. From first seeing the gift box, I thought the bottle would have been either clear or silver in colour. It really is a very similar looking bottle to the "Lacoste Pink" perfume that my daughter uses. All my daughters are pink mad, but I have to admit that I am not a pink person really (well not bright pink) and thought the bottle looked slightly cheap, but it certainly will be loved by younger teenaged girls. I guess it is stylish though and with the times, but a nice clear, or lighter pink in shade bottle would of suited me better. That's just my own personal opinion though.
Well the "Just me" perfume bottle is slim and is a long cylinder shaped one that's mostly pink in colour. It is made of glass and you can actually see the perfume inside (which is good) as it lets me know how much I have left in there. It is quite plain in design really, but has a nice shiny silver band around the lid with the words "Just Me" by Paris Hilton printed onto it. The band and spray pump are made of metal and are not plastic like a lot of perfumes are, so it is quite well finished in my opinion. The perfume bottle has a small clear plastic lid that pops on and off easily enough, but is coloured bright pink on the top of it to compliment the colour of the bottle I guess.
The spray pump on the "Just Me" perfume bottle works very well in my opinion and is easy enough to press down. It really lets out the perfect amount of perfume in just one spray that I like, as some perfume sprays can sometimes let out too much liquid and overpowers me with their scent at times. The perfume itself is clear in colour 'which I rather prefer in a perfume also", as some amber coloured ones have stained my clothes in the past.
Well overall the "Just Me" perfume bottle is ok in my opinion. It is probably my least favourite perfume bottle I have owned though. My daughters think it is beautiful... (because it is bright pink and modern I guess) but I think it looks slightly cheap even though it is finished in metal and glass. The bottle of the "Just Me" perfume that I received is 50ml in size, is slim in design and fits well into my handbag also. The only downside to this perfume bottle really is that it is 'bright pink', but that is just my personal opinion and I am sure some girls will love it though.
The Fragrance Itself:
I really was pleasantly surprised when I first tried out the "Just Me" perfume. I really did not know what to expect with it at all and thought it might be sweet in scent for some strange reason. Well on first trying it out on my wrist I really was very pleased with it, as on first whiff of it seconds later, I really could smell a pink pepper type of smell which I really love in a perfume. I used to be a fan of Lancôme's "Miracle" fragrance and this perfume 'to me' really was very similar indeed. In fact you would find it hard to tell the two apart in my opinion. I honestly was surprised I liked this fragrance from first smelling it on Christmas day as I rarely like celebrity perfumes at all. I also noticed very quickly that "Just Me" was a lot stronger in fragrance to most celebrity perfumes that I have tried before. It certainly was not overpowering or sweet though. I really was extremely pleased and surprised with this "Just Me" perfume.
Well after wearing this fragrance for around half an hour I really could start to smell a slightly sweeter, berry type of smell from it, a bit like raspberries, but I could also smell a musky floral smell in there also. I really did not think of this perfume as being too sweet either. I think the combination of everything included really blended well to reveal a very sophisticated aroma that I was still loving after a few hours of wearing it. I really think this is a lovely warm oriental, fruity, floral and musky fragrance that is combined very cleverly indeed.
Lily Of The Valley.
After around six hours of wearing "Just Me" I really could smell the musky base notes that this fragrance contains from my skin. I love musky smells and am very surprised that it really comes through well in this perfume and after some time from first applying it." Just Me" really will gradually take you through all of it's notes in one day and really is a pleasure wearing it. It certainly makes me feel fresh and good about myself when wearing it also.
Longevity And Strength Of Just Me:
I have honestly tried out a lot of celebrity perfumes in the last few years and have never bought a second bottle of any of them. Some do smell ok I admit, but it is the strength and non-longevity of them that stops me re-buying any of them. I find them all either too sweet, too mild in scent of they completely fade to nothing after just an hour of wearing them. Well "Just Me" is the first celebrity perfume 'that I have used' that can be smelt after one hour of wearing it and this smell can honestly be smelt the very next day from your skin also. It really is not overpowering though on first applying it and it totally surprised me I have to admit.
Just Me is classed as a daytime fragrance by the actual manufacture, as it is light and fresh, but I honestly have wore it in the evenings going out over Christmas myself, as to me it is suited this way also. If you do not like overpowering and heady perfumes like me, "Just Me" might well be for you because not only does it smell sophisticated in scent, but it can be smelt by others and it will last all night long. It really is the best perfume longevity wise in the celebrity range that I have used and there has been many I have tried.
I actually put on "Just Me" last night after showering and 15 hours later, sitting here writing this review, I can still smell the base notes from my wrist. It really lasts very well and it is not often you will find a perfume that will these days.
Just Me in my own opinion is aimed at the younger market (well I got that impression from it) especially because of the bright pink bottle it comes in, but I honestly think women of all ages would be very happy wearing this feel good fragrance. It is a young, modern, yet sophisticated perfume to me and should be tried out by everyone. It certainly is worth checking it out for yourself to see what I mean.
I also wore "Just Me" to a party at my Mothers house on Boxing night and my eldest daughter, my Mother and her friend all asked me what I was wearing. They all thought "Just Me" was really lovely and said they where getting some of it for themselves. Now I am smiling to myself as I read that quote I wrote earlier above that is printed on the gift box. Yes it will get you noticed and complimented on. Well it certainly has when I am wearing it. My hubby seems to like this fragrance and has complimented on it so I guess that is very important also.
My Overall Opinion:
Well, when I was out shopping a few months ago I would not have given Paris Hiltons perfumes a second glance because I thought they would not last very well like all the other celebrity ones I have tried before. My friend also phoned me on Christmas day and I thanked her for buying me this perfume. I also asked her why she had chosen it? Her reply was "I know you like the Miracle perfume, so when I smelt this from a friend and seen it for half the price of Miracle, I thought it would make a good gift for you for Christmas". She really is a cheap skate, but I can honestly see her point. If you like the Miracle perfume then you certainly will like "Just Me".
The gift box to "Just Me" is a nice looking one really, but I was quite disappointed with the perfume bottle. This is only my personal opinion about it though and I know a lot of younger girls who are into bright pink things in a big way will absolutely love it. I just feel the bottle is a little too young for me really and a little bit cheap looking. I will have to admit in liking the "Just Me" perfume a lot though. I honestly cannot believe the beautiful warm scent "Just Me" has though and how it lasts in strength so long. I certainly will be replacing this bottle when it is done as "Just So" is now up there in my top five fragrance list.
This fragrance (although it can be smelt from afar) is light, flowery, but not in an old fragrance way and is one that I often take a deep smell of when I am wearing it. I really do love it and am very pleased with this perfume overall. My youngest daughter also seems to love this perfume as I found it in her bedroom yesterday. I have now hidden it from her as she would use the bottle in a week, but I will buy her some for herself as it really is very reasonably priced indeed.
I really will highly recommend the fragrance of the "Just Me" perfume to others. You will either love it or loathe it, but it is one to check out as it lasts in fragrance strength extremely well. I will award it 4/5 stars as I can now see why Paris Hiltons perfumes have won "Celebrity Perfume Of The Year". I am deducting a star for the bright pink bottle that looks cheap to me and is sort of embarrassing to carry around in my handbag, but this perfume is by far one of the best celebrity fragrances I have yet to try. Well done Paris. I certainly will be checking out a few others in her range now, but hopefully the bottles will look better though. A big thumbs up and a very pleasant surprise. Honestly, give it a try. You might really like it also.
I honestly do not Know how much my friend paid for this fragrance. I just checked out Amazon UK and have listed their prices for the three sizes that this fragrance comes in for you, just in case you are interested or to compare shop prices with. As you can see below it is very reasonably priced.
30ml ~ £8.53
50ml ~ £12.95
100ml ~ £16.24
Reason For Using:
Well I was actually given this Givenchy Organza perfume by my Mum as she had received it as a Birthday present and said she was put of it as she did not really like the sweetish scent it has to it. I had never tried Organza before myself, but my Mum let me have a little spray of it first to see what my opinion was of it and when I give it a sniff and told her that I thought it was quite nice, she told me I could keep it to use for myself. I find it is always nice to be given perfume as a gift, because apart from using the lovely scent to wear, I also really love collecting the unique bottles that many of the different perfumes come in and thought this little bottle that the Organza perfume came in looked very expensive, was quite stylish also, so thought it would be a lovely little addition to add to my perfume collection and was very pleased to have received it.
A Little About Givenchy Perfume:
Givenchy perfume was founded in 1957 by the Frenchman Hubert de Givenchy after he branched out of fashion design and into the beauty industry. He used to design a lot of Audrey Hepburn's (the famous actress) clothes and it was a combination of this French elegance with American glamour that give him the idea to create his first perfume called L'Interdit. Hubert de Givenchy dedicated his first perfume to his stylish friend Audrey Hepburn and over the years he designed and created many more great scents also.
The Givenchy Organza Eau de Perfume Spray was launched into the market in 1996 and although it has been around for a while now, it was the first time that I had ever heard or smelt it before myself until a few months ago. The Organza perfume is actually classed as a casual 'yet' romantic fragrance, but I would personally not agree with the casual wearing of it and would say it really is more of an evening fragrance to me as it is a stronger smelling perfume indeed. It certainly would be suited to a variety of emotions though, expressed through a number of the different blends that this unique fragrance contains. It really could be described as a more oriental floral fragrance in my opinion. I would personally say that this fragrance comes across as quite strong when first ever smelling it, but it does change a lot when you wear it for a few hours. Orangza might not suit some peoples tastes though.
The Gift Box:
Well the gift box that the Givenchy Organza perfume comes in is very expensive looking to me on first ever seeing it. It is a beautiful metallic gold gift box that really is very well designed and thought out. It has the words "Organza" clearly printed onto the front of the box in striking black lettering and around the sides of the gift box in red, gold and black are lovely little scroll motifs that really set the whole design of the gift box off. The red and black colours really do stand out against the gold background and compliment it all very well indeed. The size of the perfume bottle (mine is 30ml) is printed onto the gift box also and the makers name "Givenchy" can be found on the front of it also. Overall this is a lovely gift box that would be very nice to give to friends as a gift in and one that I was very happy to have received myself.
The Perfume Bottle:
The Organza Perfume bottle is really very elegant looking indeed. Apparently it was designed to resemble a Greek Goddess, although it does not look at all like a person to me. It is a very long, slim and quite sophisticated looking bottle. It really is very unique in design and looks impressive also. The bottle is made of clear glass which is handy to see the amount of perfume that you actually have got left inside it. Designed into the front of the glass bottle is what appears to me as the outline of a women's dress. It starts at the bottom of the bottle and beautifully curves right up onto the neck of it. The dress design is etched with thin lines which takes away the plainness of the glass and makes it really stand out. On the back of the perfume bottle are the words Organza, Givenchy Paris, Eau De Parfume and the size of the bottle all nicely etched onto the glass.
The lid (or stopper really) is what I personally think sets the whole design of the Organza perfume off. It is only made of a thick plastic material, but it is finished in a metallic gold colour and really stands out. The lid is round in shape and has a Scroll design rolled up at one side of it and a smaller one rolled outwards at the other. This really makes the bottle look very elegant, is rich looking in my opinion and to me, the lid is what certainly sets the whole perfume bottle off and really catches your eye.
The lid of the Organza perfume just pulls off from the top of the bottle. It does not screw on or off it either. It just sort of pops on and off the neck of the bottle quite easily. It is quite tightly secured though when in place and does not leak out any of the perfume that's inside the bottle when it is held upside down or when I carry it around in my handbag with me. There is also no spray pump with this perfume. Once you pop off the lid, it is just an open perfume bottle, although the neck is quite short on it and the little hole where the perfume comes out of is quite small. I just tip the bottle up onto my wrist when I am applying it and it just lets out a tiny bit of perfume each time, that I rub into my skin with my other wrist.
Overall it really is a very well designed, quite stylish and a very eye-catching perfume bottle in my opinion. It really does look very expensive to me and looks extremely well displayed on the glass shelf in my bedroom. The perfume bottle also lets out the perfect amount of fragrance each time onto my wrist and really does not overpower you with too much fragrance at all which is good as it saves wasting any of it also.
The Givenchy Organza Perfume really is quite unique in my opinion. It is an amber coloured perfume, which is easy to see inside the bottle. When first taking a sniff of it from the bottle, it really does come across as quite strong a scent and a little bit sweet smelling to me because of the Honeysuckle and gardenia notes it contains. Certainly do not go with your first impressions of it though, as the whole scent of this fragrance really does change a lot when you wear it and the sweetness does die down a lot when you apply it to your skin.
Well Organza really reminds me of the Coco Chanel perfume a lot, but not just as strong a fragrance or as overpowering as it really. It is quite strong though when you first apply it to your skin and some people may be really put of by this, but it does quickly soften down to a more oriental, flowery and quite powdery scent. It does at first have a little bit of a peppery spice coming through it, on taking a deeper sniff of it, but after you let it settle down and smell it again after around fifteen minutes, a more vanilla type of aroma starts to make it's way through it also, I find.
Organza really is a very different fragrance indeed and when smelling it from a distant or just catching a whiff of it from your skin it does smell of a powdery vanilla aroma and yet when you take a closer sniff of your skin, the fragrance almost changes into a completely different smelling floral one. It really is like wearing two fragrances at once. The fragrance does remain strong smelling though. Even after an hour or so it can be smelt from your skin at a distance. It is not overpowering really, but I honestly would not class this perfume as a casual wearing one at all. This is an evening fragrance to me. A romantic and a very sophisticated one also.
There is more notes included in this Organza fragrance, but I found it hard to find them all. I did include the main ones though above.
Well after a few hours of wearing Organza the perfume really dies down and the flower notes of the Honeysuckle and gardenia that are included fade down, to a sweeter, woody and more amber fragrance comes through instead. This perfume might then be too sweet for some people, but to me it really is very nice wearing it at this stage. After around six hours you then smell the fresher base notes of the nutmeg and the vanilla scent. It then really becomes a much lighter and powdery smelling fragrance to me.
Organza really is a very unique scent. It will come across as a very strong fragrance on first applying it to your skin, but I really think you need to give it a chance to settle down. The result of the blends in this fragrance really make it a very feminine one indeed. It really is a well balanced perfume and is a pleasure to wear it as it really comes across to me as a very sophisticated perfume. It starts off as a warm floral explosion really that is great for Summer wearing of it and finishes off as a lighter, fresh and quite romantic spicy fragrance that I personally love.
I really do only wear this fragrance on special occasion though as it is strong and will be smelt from afar. Wearing this perfume to work or during the daytime might overpower people around you so I honestly do not agree with the term that Givenchy have given to it of "Casual wear" This fragrance will get you noticed and will get you compliments on wearing it also. My husband likes this fragrance as he always compliments on this lovely aroma when I have it on.
Organza from Givenchy really is a strong and very long lasting fragrance indeed. I find when I apply this perfume when I am going out in the evenings, that it really can be smelt from my skin the next morning and that is without taking a whiff of it on my wrist or from my clothes. You really will smell the fragrance the next day if you do not wash it off. It will last very well and is certainly one of the most long lasting fragrances that I have ever used before. This really makes it a very good perfume though as a lot of the newer and more modern perfumes really do fade right of your skin in just a few hours of wearing them. If it's a stronger, long lasting perfume you are after, then Organza certainly would be a great choice for you.
My Overall Opinion Of Organza:
Well the Organza perfume really is a very rich and different type of fragrance that I find you will either love a lot or absolutely hate. It might not be suited either to the younger teenaged girls, as this is a lot stronger than the more modern celebrity perfumes that are around. It certainly is worth checking out though as it really makes a great evening wearing fragrance indeed and is one to wear out for meals or on special occasions for a smouldering seduction I find.
Organza, in my opinion, really is beautifully and sophisticatedly styled. It is femininity in full bloom when wearing it. It really is an elegant blend of floral, oriental and woody notes that work very well in creating this very likable and unique perfumed fragrance. It really will create a statement for strong and assured women and make you feel very sophisticated indeed. It is a perfume that I am actually pleased that I came across as it would not of been one I would ever have chosen for myself. I really do like wearing this fragrance a lot and it certainly makes me feel good when I do. I have worn it a few times and I am sure this 30ml bottle that I received will last a year or so, but when it is finished I certainly will not hesitate in buying another bottle of it.
I would have to highly recommend the Organza fragrance because I do really like it. It really is not a scent for girly girls though. It is a scent for sensuous women! It honestly will not appeal to everyone though because of the sweetness and strength of it's fragrance, but you really cannot judge this perfume though on first impressions of smelling it. You do need to wear it for half an hour or so and then decide if you like this fragrance or not because it really does change in scent a lot from when you first apply it to your skin. It is a beautiful long-lasting perfume that is ideal for those special occasions and for making you feel fresh and good about yourself. Organza is a classic. It has a touch of mystery with it, but it also is a timeless and elegant fragrance that will certainly get you many compliments. Well I love it and it certainly is one to test out for yourself.
Organza can be purchased online at the moment for around:
£33.00 ~ 30ml.
£43.00 ~ 100ml.
These prices do tend to vary a lot though I find, so do shop around on different sites. Look out for special offers and deals on it also. The Organza fragrance is also available in a body lotion and a shower gel.
Robbie Williams Second Solo Album:
I've Been Expecting You is the second music album released by my favourite male Pop Star "Robbie Williams" Well I bought this album to add to my collection shortly after it's release in 1998 as I've been a huge fan of Mr Williams since he left the very successful British Boy Band "Take That" and started his own solo music career. I've Been Expecting You is one of my most listened to music CD's and it is also one of my favourite albums from the ten that the singer has released so far. On first ever hearing the songs onboard this album, I really was very impressed myself with them and was really pleased that this album was a great follow up to Robbie's first. Quite a few of the songs from this CD went on to be really big hits for the star also. I've been expecting you certainly is a brilliant second album from Robbie, as I feel he has chosen a more grown up style theme to his songs this time, has chosen more mature lyrics and has slower paced background tunes to more of his songs, compared to the tracks on his first album really. I've Been Expecting You has plenty of slow sweeping ballads and is full of catchy melodies that all flow along beautifully from track to tack.
I've Been Expecting You was released into the UK Album Chart on the 26th October 1998. It is a Pop Album made up of twelve different tracks (plus two bonus ones) and all of them are sang very well by Robbie also. All of the songs included on this album are very unique ones, have very likable tunes to them all and vary in music style quite a lot. Robbie Williams wrote nearly all of the fourteen tracks on I've been expecting you with singer/songwriter Guy Chambers. Guy also wrote Robbie's Most successful song of his solo career which was "Angels" on Robbie's first debut album also. The pair certainly do work very well together at writing and producing great lyrical songs 'in my opinion' and "I've Been Expecting You" shows this great work throughout it. The song "She's The One" from this album was a cover song that Robbie got permission to use from Karl Wallinger as he fell in love with it after listening to it on one of his rehab visits.
Well "I've Been Expecting You" also went straight to the number one spot on its release back in 1998 and was a very strong second album from Robbie Williams indeed. It has sold around 2,563,106 copies to date in the UK and is in the top 50 of the best selling music albums in Britain also. It was a very popular album in Europe also and worldwide it has sold over 5 million copies. I've Been Expecting you also is certified 10x Platinum, so as you can see it really is a very successful album indeed and one of Robbie's better ones!
This music album was the one that provided Robbie Williams with his very first solo number one (just one month prior to the albums release) with the song "Millennium" that was released from it first. Millennium 'by the way' knocked Robbie's 'then' Fiancé, Nicole Appleton and the rest of the "All Saints" group she belonged to, right off the number one spot in the charts and at the time Robbie was remembered for saying "Well it had to knock someone off it. It might as well be her!"
I've Been Expecting You really is a great music album in my opinion. It is one of those albums that you can put on and listen to without having to press the skip or fast forward button on your CD player to miss out the weaker filler songs that you do not really want to listen to like on many albums I find. Honestly. All fourteen songs are really enjoyed a lot by me. Robbie Williams had over four very successful chart hits from this particular album, but I actually find the ones that he did not release from it, are equally as good to listen to (if not better) really, so this really makes it one of my favourite albums produced by him overall.
Well, I've been expecting you is a great mix of beautiful music ballads, is very uplifting guitar pop, that is also very well written and is cleverly produced indeed. The lyrics to each of the tracks are all good and the songs all really do have a very different story to tell us without repeating themselves too much at all. Many of the songs are a self-parody of Robbie Williams. He makes fun of himself in a lot of them, but at times you can tell he is being quite serious also. I find most of the songs on this album are very uplifting to me and make me feel good inside after listening to each of them. You really will be singing along to most of them 'like I do' as they do have very catchy choruses to them all. All of the songs certainly are bigger than life tales, that will provide you with very enjoyable entertainment for nearly one hour. The background music throughout the songs also is a lovely mix of piano, guitar and lighter drum sounds that are all very well put together and give each of the songs pure feeling to me.

Well, Strong is the first track on the I've been expecting you album and it certainly is a great tune to kick start it of with. Strong did very well in the UK charts on its release and peaked at number four. I really enjoy the very witty story behind this great track a lot. It tells a tale about Robbie himself and how he is living his life at that time. The chorus is about him telling us that we all think he is a strong person, when inside he really is not. Strong starts of with a beautiful guitar strum, is joined by a gentle drum beat and quickens up in tempo when Robbie sings out the chorus. This song is now a classic for Robbie Williams and a very strong song on this album. The lyrics are good, the whole song is very catchy and you really cannot help singing out loud to this track. It is also sang very well by Robbie himself. Strong is one of my favourite songs from Mr Williams and a real pleasure to listen to overall.
Rating from me: 4/5
This was the second single released from I've been expecting you and it also ended up being a big hit for Robbie also. It reached number 4 in the UK charts and features background vocals from Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys). No Regrets is again about Robbie singing about himself and his fellow pop group "Take That" that he once belonged to. He is telling us his story of basically having 'No Regrets' of breaking away from the group and going solo. It is a slower paced song from this album with a steady beat to it. The lyrics are accompanied by a softer tune played on a keyboard with gentler drum beats and guitar strums. Towards the chorus it lifts in tempo a lot to a louder and faster paced rhythm with Robbie blasting out the ending of the chorus. It really is a very enjoyable and popular Robbie Williams song that I personally enjoy listening and singing along to. Another very strong track on the I've been expecting you album.
Rating From Me: 4/5
Millennium was the first song from this album to be released into the UK Chart and it went straight to the number one spot. It also was a very successful song worldwide for Robbie Williams. Millennium uses the music from John Barry's Bond Film "You Only Live Twice" which is one of Robbie's favourite Bond films. It really is a very well liked song by me (although it is not in my top five from Robbie) I do like it, but he has better ones onboard "I've Been Expecting You" in my opinion. Millennium has great lyrics to it. It tells me a story of life and living beyond your means while other people in the world have nothing. We are born to love not to hate also. Well that's the message I get from this song. It could be about one person, one Nation or the whole world really. It is good, has a catchy chorus to it and is well sang by Robbie. The background music is a very catchy melody really of orchestra music, steady drum beats and is a fun flowing pop song. Millennium certainly is another strong track on the I've Been Expecting You album.
Rating From Me: 4/5
Phoenix From The Flames:
This song is certainly my favourite track from "I've Been Expecting You". It is an original and very interesting song that of coarse includes Robbie's personal take on things to make it even more unique, that only he seems to master well. This is a little bit of a faster flowing track and is more a rock than pop song to me. I love the piano introduction and the great guitar sounds at the start that gets this song heated up with it's steady and likable beat that continues throughout it. Robbie shows pure emotion singing this and this certainly helps me relate to it. The lyrics to this is outstanding in my opinion. I love it! This songs plays on all my emotions big time. As soon as I hear Robbie singing this I get Goosebumps. It starts off as a very gentle and sad sounding song that ends up a big rock type of song that lifts your mood from feeling sad, to feeling really great inside. Phoenix From The Flames has a lovely story to it also. It tells a tale of being down when you have lost someone I guess and rising up above it all. My favourite line is "Wish they'd take you back, cause you miss heaven" I Love it! A top song from Robbie, a pleasure to listen to and the best track on this whole album!
Rating From Me: 5/5
Win Some Lose Some:
Win Some Lose some is a great catchy song you just have to sing along to when you first hear it. I really like this one a lot. It was not released from this album, but is far from just a filler though. It has a beautiful melody going on throughout it with great guitar rifts, loud drum beats, has plenty of loud cymbal and other instruments going on in the background also. It is fast paced and gets you moving to its steady beat also. The lyrics also help to make this song in my opinion and tell another great tale of Robbie Williams life and about him once meeting a girl on holiday. Well she falls for him, but I don't really think he feels the same about her. It is a good witty song and another likable and strong song from I've been expecting you overall.
Rating From Me: 4/5
Well Grace has a very catchy tune to it. It really sounds like a sixties TV series theme tune really, but it is good. Well I like it. It is not one of the better songs from Robbie, but it is likable. Grace tells a story of "apparently" the aborted child that his ex-girlfriend got rid off and it really hurt him inside, so he wrote this song about his baby and how he felt at that time. It does not have a sad tune to it though 'surprisingly'. Grace has a steady beat throughout it and is quite good to listen to. Grace is a short track from this album which is sang well by Robbie also.
Rating From Me: 3/5
Jesus In A Camper Van:
Well Jesus in a camper van is a good song from this album in my opinion. I love this witty and catchy tune it has to it a lot. It has a great guitar introduction and a very steady moving pace to it. It will have you swaying and tapping your feet to it as soon as you here it. It was not released off "I've been expecting you" and into the charts, but it is another strong song on this album that I personally like. Robbie tells a story about being on drugs, struggling to stay away from them and is sending us all out a warning really. It is put together nicely, sang well by Robbie and is a good track on this album also. There is a slight theme of vanity and religion to this track also, but it is cleverly worded in it's lyrics.
Rating From Me: 3/5
Heaven From Here:
Heaven From Here is beautifully sang by Robbie. I love this song a lot. It is a gentle flowing and sad song that was not released from "I've been expecting you", but is an excellent filler indeed. It really is beautiful. It starts off with a gentle guitar tune and Robbie singing a beautiful story of loving someone and protecting them from everything bad really. It is not a depressing song, but it has been played at funerals a lot that I have been to. This really is one of Robbie's most beautiful songs he has produced and also sang. I could listen and sing to this tune all day long. It really is one of the better songs from this album and is a real pleasure to listen to overall.
Rating From Me: 5/5
Well this certainly is totally different from the last track. This is another excellent, loud, fast moving rock/pop song with excellent guitar riffs, loud steady drum beats and beautiful orchestra sounds going on throughout it. Wow! I love this track a lot on this album. This was not released either into the charts, but it would have been a big hit for Robbie. It has a brilliant chorus to it that you really will shout (not sing) along to. Robbie screams this out perfectly. I love it! A real loud, strong worded, Rock type of song that's different in style from what Robbie usually chooses, but more of this from him would be great! Karma Killer tells a story of saying all you want to say to an ex or someone you hate really. A great line for example is "I hope you choke on your Bacardi and coke" I love it! This song will make you feel great inside after listening to it. It has your pulse racing along to this. It is excellent! Another very strong and likable track on the I've Been Expecting you album.
Rating From Me: 5/5
She's The One:
This has to be one of Robbie's best ever songs. It is excellent! Well it is not a song written by Robbie (for once though) This song is by Karl Wallinger. Robbie was in Rehab when he first heard this track and fell in love with it. Well this song was released into the UK charts and went straight to number one. You will see why though if you listen to this. It is a beautiful, slow love ballad that is sang perfectly by Robbie himself. It starts off with a beautiful piano introduction that is steadily played and then joined vocally by Robbie. It is slow placed in rhythm until it hit's the chorus and then gradually builds up to a faster (but beautiful) moving tune. The chorus is very catchy and lifts this song in emotion from being quite sad really to a more warm-hearted and feel good one. I love it a lot. The best track on this album in my opinion and a very successful and popular one by Robbie also.
Rating By Me: 5/5
Man Machine was not released from I've Been Expecting You. It should nave been though as it is brilliant! It is a great catchy track that has a great drum beat introduction, a good steady pace and excellent lyrics to it that I personally love. It's another rock type of song from Robbie that's quite loud. I love the electro guitar sounds throughout this song also. Well Robbie shouts out the lyrics to Man Machine rather than singing it. It's great to listen to though. It tells a witty story of being A Man Machine and I think it is about drugs and crime really as it was used in the Movie "Lock, Stock and two smoking Barrels" Well it is very catchy and has me singing and pretend guitar strumming along to it every time. A great track on this album I thoroughly enjoy!
Rating From Me: 5/5
These Dreams is another excellent and strong track from "I've Been Expecting You" that I love listening to. It is a slow moving song that has a beautiful background tune to it. It is well written and put together also. The introduction has a lovely guitar melody and lighter drum sounds. It is a relaxing song that's sang beautifully by Robbie. It really is quite a haunting tune to me and tells a sad story of thinking about bad times in your life, but also about dreaming of better ones tomorrow instead. I love the lyrics to this song a lot and with the accompanying background sounds it really makes this a beautiful piece of music overall. A very strong tack on "I've been expecting you" that was not released in the charts, but should be heard. It is excellent!
Rating From Me: 5/5
The Two hidden tracks are also very good also on I've Been Expecting You. I will leave them out as a surprise for you though if you have not bought the album.
My Overall Opinion Of This Album:
I've Been Expecting You really is a very strong album by Robbie Williams and I personally think it is one of his best. All the tracks onboard it are all very likable and well put together. Robbie always seems to talk about the obvious, but he also has this ability to make all of his work original and still keep it very interesting. That's what I like about him. He is unique and it shows on this album. There really is top song writing on this album indeed! I've been expecting you is certainly full of likable pop music. Robbie will not of course appeal to everyone though, but for anyone that does like him and has not got this album, then I strongly recommend adding it to your collection. It will not disappoint you at all.
There is very few albums that I have that I can put on and listen to without skipping a few tracks out that I do not like. Well with I've been expecting I do not have to do this. I honestly love all the songs included. They are all different, likable and very catchy. Robbie sings well on this album also and sings with pure emotion every time. This has to be one of his best albums in my opinion. I have all of them and this one does stand out with me.
I've Been Expecting You is also quite a fun album, an enjoyable album and one that will play on all your emotions, but I feel it leaves me feeling good inside after listening to it. It really is sing-a-long quality, which drips in feeling. There is no stand out track to me though on it because all the songs are great. Honestly. I love them all! A great album overall that's lyrics weave in and out of themes that make it a real easy listening one, keeps it very interesting throughout it and will want you playing it over again when it finishes. Twelve excellent quality songs that are a pleasure to listen to. This album is highly recommended by me and gets a full 5/5.
I've Been Expecting You can be bought quite cheaply from Amazon at the moment for under £5.00. This really is a great price for top Robbie Williams music and it should be added to your collection if you like his music style.
I have done my best to bring you this honest review on these Netgear Wireless PC Cards as I am not that technically inclined really, but I hope you will find the information below useful in some way. I hope I have got everything correct and have placed this review in the right place also.
Reason For Purchasing:
I have bought three of these WG511T Netgear cards in the last year to replace all the broken wireless adapter stick dongles that where once used to connect two Desktop Computers to the internet with in my home. The third card was used to replace my 54Mpbs wireless card to a 108Mpbs card in my Laptop for better signal strength. My children kept breaking the adapter sticks because they continually pulled them in and out of their Computers USB ports so they could connect their other PC gadgets and memory sticks instead. The adapter stick dongles we used before where also quite flimsy really, stuck out of a USB port like a sore thumb and there was not a lot to them, so I found they really did not last too long at all before all of them got broken. I also used them as I hated Ethernet wires running up my stairs and into different rooms, but thought they where a good idea at the time to connect wirelessly with. Well these Netgear cards where our chosen replacement to connect our Computers to the Internet with and they really are outstanding. They are fitted into your Computer internally and are really very easy to install. No more broken network stick dongles with these, as once installed, they stay installed (well you can take them out) and are hidden away inside your Laptop or at the back of your Desktop.
How They Work:
Well these Netgear cards work by allowing connection to a main Router/Modem in your home. They work extremely well and are certainly worth every penny that I have spent on them. They really are a great invention in my eyes. The Netgear card adapters will deliver up to 108 Mbps of wireless Internet and network access, to either your Desktop Computer, or your Laptop using 802.11g Super G technology ( I am not too technical, but this apparently gives you better LAN performance, so doubles the wireless speed). The WG511T Netgear card operates at 10 times the speed of the 802.11b products, so is extremely capable of easily sharing and organising your music, streaming your videos and emailing photographs to friends. These cards allow you connection to the Internet very easily indeed and without the inconvenience and expense really of Ethernet cabling (I hate wires) also. They really are excellent!
I purchased these Netgear cards online from Amazon and they cost me around £20.00 (although they are slightly cheaper now). I only bought one at first to upgrade my Laptop for better signal strength and was so impressed that my husband went online and ordered another two of them for my daughters computers. Well these Netgear cards came in a small yellow cardboard box. Inside the box you will find a small (5.4 x 11.9 x 0.6 cm) metal/plastic Netgear PC card, an antenna, a disc for installing the drivers onto your PC with and a very useful, easy to follow instruction booklet. Netgears website is also found in the instruction booklet which is very useful to know if you run into any problems or for downloading firmware to upgrade to etc if you choose.
Well these Netgear cards are very easy to install as the PC card very easily slides into the PCMCIA slot that you will find on the side or back of your Laptop or Desktop. This is done in seconds. Set-up is made quick and easy after doing so also with the Net Gear's Smart Wizard Installation Disc. My husband loaded in the disc to the Computer CD drive, waited a few seconds on it loading and then followed the step by step instructions he was given by the Wizard on the Computer screen. The wizard automatically selects the best available connection for you and adapts its settings to match. Five minutes later and it was all ready to use and connection to the Internet was received. No more wires either. It was great! These cards are the best purchase I have made in years. My daughters where costing me a fortune, as they kept breaking the USB adapters when they pulled them in and out of the USB ports, but these cards are hidden away inside or behind your Computer which really is great.
Another Method Of Setting Up:
Another Method of set-up if you have any problems installing the drivers with the wizard is to use Microsoft Windows own method of configuring. We had no problems at all though on all three Computers with the wizard disc. When you first install the wizard it will give you two options. The first is to let the wizard automatically set it up for you 'that is recommended' or the second option is to let Microsoft Windows set it up, but this method is only recommended if you have problems. You will need to take out your Netgear card and re-install it if the wizard lets you down.
If you are installing these Netgear cards into a Desktop Computer though, you do need to connect the antenna that comes with them. It is only a very small gadget that's thin and about 3 inches in height. It is made of a light metal and a black plastic material. It has a two foot long, thin wire running from it also. This wire just connects onto the Netgear card itself at the back of your Desktop Computer and is installed in seconds. I just set the antenna on top of my daughters CPU box and tuck the very thin black wire down behind her desk. It really is hidden away very nicely though. This antenna is like a little aerial I guess and it works extremely well without moving it about for a signal. If you are fitting this Netgear card into a Laptop, you do not need to use the antenna supplied, as all Laptops have one built into them.
Well we are using three of these Netgear cards to connect our Computers and Laptop to in our home. We first used a BT Modem/Router and they all worked very well, connected with ease and our Computers received fast internet connection also. We changed over to a Sky Modem Router a few months ago and they connected to it again with no problems. You honestly do not need to have a Netgear Router to use these cards. To me the two Desktop Computers seem slighter quicker at connecting to the Internet and so is my Laptop with the Sky Router though. All three of our Computers are upstairs and the signal has to come down the stairs and connect to our Modem in our hall and to me they really do a great and speedy job of doing so with no interference from our thick walls or closed doors. Honestly the signal strength is excellent! I just checked the signal strength on my Laptop settings It says Excellent strength and is right to the maximum. I use Vista by the way and my card works well with it. My daughters use XP and Windows 98 and have no problems either.
The Netgear cards are extremely safe from hackers I have found and will protect your network from eavesdroppers and bandwidth pinchers also. To be really secure though, you can limit access from your wireless router to designated computers, using their unique ID, called a MAC address, which you should really do also. My husband changes our password weekly, for safer web searching and peace of mind. Don't forget if you do buy one of these Netgear Wireless PC Cards to keep the Disc Wizard safe with your other software you have for your Computer, just in-case you need to format your Computer or to take the card out to use in a new one.
These Netgear Wireless PC Cards are excellent and I really am extremely pleased I purchased them. They where so easy to install and work much better for my family all-round. I will never go back to using the USB dongles to connect my children's computers to the Internet with. All of our dongles soon where broken after purchasing them because of the continuous pulling in and out of them from the USB slots they had to be connected to. I found the dongle sticks a lot slower to connect to the Internet with and they had a poorer signal strength from them also, compared to these new Netgear cards I bought. There is not much difference in the price of the two either. I also recommend if you consider buying these cards, to get the 108 Mbps ones as to the 54Mbps ones, as this will give you a faster connection speed and a better signal for virtually the same price. These Netgear cards will certainly allow you to take your Laptop out to the garden and if your at a friends house, Hotel or anywhere with a Modem in the building they will allow you to connect to it also.
I would certainly highly recommend everyone to use these Network cards to connect to the internet wirelessly with. They state a lot that they are for Laptops only, but they are not. These cards can be fitted to Desktops also. They really are better than any other adapters or dongles I have used before and they really do have to be tried. I honestly give then top marks. A full five out of five! I really am glad they where invented as I think they work extremely well and are a good and more reliable method to connect to the Internet with. We run three computers upstairs in our home with these Netgear cards and each and every one of them is fast and secure. It really is great not having those stupid little stick dongle things connected to our USB ports any more and having to keep pulling them in and out like my daughters did because they have very few USB ports. Even if you do have plenty of USB ports, these cards will give you a better signal and much faster connection speed than a dongle can. Well to me these cards are the best way to connect to the internet with. Nothing will beat them wirelessly. Honest. I really highly recommend these network adapter PC cards to everyone. They are quite cheap these days also. They certainly are one of my best buys! A great upgrade for Laptops also that have problems with signal strength. These really do work a lot better than my old wireless card and I can use my Laptop upstairs now and in my Garden with the signal strength now on full power.
The Netgear Wireless PC Card can be purchased at Amazon at the moment for £17.99 (not including posting). Another Good Wireless PC card 'my Brother is using' is called Edimax. It is slightly cheaper than the Netgear one and will do a similar job for you also. Well I like the Netgear one though and to me it is certainly a very cheap price to pay to get your Desktop or Laptop connected via Router/Modem to the internet with.
Reasons For Using:
I was bought the French Lanvin Oxygene Eau de Toilette Spray as a gift for my Birthday last year by my Mother. I had never seen or even heard of this fragrance before so was quite curious to try it out and pleased to have received it as a gift really as my Mum usually chooses something quite different and it's rarely I dislike it. Apparently (according to my Mum) this fragrance is hard to pick up now though in department stores, but it can be purchased online at quite good discounted prices if you shop around for it.
A Little About Oxygene:
Founded in 1889 at, Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré by Jeanne Lanvin (Paris 1867 - 1946), Lanvin is apparently the oldest Parisian fashion house, although it was not until 1993 that they expanded out and into the perfume industry.
Well after doing more research online, I discovered that the Oxygene Eau de Toilette perfume was launched in 2000 by the Parisian house of Lanvin. It is also available in a Homme Eau de Toilette Spray (for men). Both male and female body lotions, shower gels and deodorants are also available, so if you do fall in love with this fragrance, there is plenty of other products in the range to match.
The Oxygene Eau de Toilette perfume I received came in an attractive, very likable, sky blue gift box, so it certainly would be nice to give this to a friend as a present. It was also pleasing for me to receive it as one. I personally think the design of the gift box is very modern, very stylish and well designed. It looks expensive also. Everything you need to know about this fragrance is nicely and clearly printed onto the box also. The size (mine is 75ml) is printed onto the back of the box in white lettering and the name of the makers Lanvin is circled in navy blue print onto the front. The make of this perfume "Oxygene" is clearly printed in white on the front of the box also. Overall the gift box looks very nice and certainly is one you could happily give to a friend with the perfume inside, as a beautiful gift.
Well, when I first opened up my Lanvin Oxygene gift box, I was extremely pleased at seeing the perfume bottle. It really looked very stylish, modern and was very nicely designed indeed. It certainly was very different to all my other perfume bottles in my collection and I was very impressed. The bottle is shaped as a leaf in design from the side, so from the front it looks almost flat, yet with rounded sides. The bottle is also spilt into two halves. The bottom half is made from thick clear glass with a nice little border around it in frosted glass. It is good that the bottle is see-through I find, as you can see exactly how much of the aqua marine perfume you have left in there.
Well the other half and top of the perfume bottle is designed as a lid. This cannot be removed though. This part of the perfume bottle is made from a thick white plastic and has the name Lanvin engraved onto the front of it. This part of the bottle also houses the spray pump. At the top of the bottle there is a baby blue, opaque, leaf designed, push button. It looks like a gemstone to me, but sadly it is made of thick bevelled plastic.
The gemstone like button is what you push down to spray the perfume out with. To me I find it a little stiff at times and hard to press. I think the reason for this is because the bottle is quite chunky and it is awkward to get your hand around it. Well it is to me anyway. Once you do get the button pressed though, I find the little spray nozzle lets out the perfect amount of perfume in a very fine mist, every single time. It certainly does not give out too much spray and saves wasting it or overpowering you with fragrance.
Overall it is a well designed perfume bottle that looks very stylish and is one I now love. It looks well sitting in my bathroom and lets out the perfect amount of perfume unlike a few others I own that certainly do not.
The Fragrance Itself:
The Oxygene perfume inside the stylish bottle is aqua marine in colour 'as I said above'. On first smelling the fragrance from the bottle 'without spraying it' I thought it actually smelt a little bit similar to Davidoff's Cool Water perfume. Cool Water is not a perfume I personally wear though, but I do like the scent of it. Well after giving the perfume a quick sniff, I spayed some onto my wrist and rubbed it in. My first impressions where ok I guess. It did smell rather strong (but likable), but I did let the fragrance settle for five minutes before smelling it again and it certainly had died down a lot.
This Lanvin Oxygene was coming across to me at first as a very fresh, sharp, clean, warm and a somewhat floral scent. It did at first smell a little bit musky and I could detect a hint of sandalwood 'that apparently it contains' from it also, but this quickly faded leaving a more cooler fragrance and certainly a more unique floral and peppery scent was coming through after around fifteen minutes of wearing it. It certainly was all very pleasing though and I did like this fragrance from the word go.
Well to me Lanvins Oxygene is certainly a very unique perfume. It is quite a citrus scent when it dies down in strength 'after an hour or so' and it really is a very fresh and feminine fragrance to me. It really did liberate my senses to a gradual introduction of different and unusual scents indeed. It certainly is a deliciously fresh and a sensuous, yet gentle fragrance when it all dies down also, that is a real pleasure to wear really.
I would personally describe Oxygene as a daytime fragrance to wear, but if you do not like your perfume overpowering or strong, then you could wear this scent as an evening one also. I think it is a very sophisticated and a quite striking fragrance also.
Strength and Longevity:
Lanvin Oxygene is quite strong when you first spray it on. It does quickly fade down though to a more softer and gentler fragrance, but it is not a weak one really. Even after a few hours wear you really can smell this perfume from your clothes and skin without having to hold them close to take a sniff of it. There is so many scents that fade away very quickly, that I do love the smell off, but thankfully Oxygene does seem to last that little bit longer in strength so this is good.
Well if I apply Lanvins Oxygene in the morning I can smell it a little fainter by lunch time and can still smell it from my skin at tea time. It does seem to wear well on me and I think it is quite long lasting. If you are going out in the evening though I would then say that you really will need to top this up if it is a favourite of yours to wear. Overall it is certainly one of the better lasting perfumes in strength that I have come across myself.
My Opinion On Lanvin Oxygene:
Well I will have to honestly say that Oxygene is not my favourite perfume to wear. I do like it and it certainly suits me well, but I really do have a few other fragrances that I favour more. On saying that though, Oxygene really is a very unique fragrance I found. It really has a lovely fresh aroma to it that starts off as quite a warm one and fades down to a more cooler one also. It really is a very unusual blend of scents and notes that do work very well together in my opinion to create this wonderful and very sophisticated perfume.
I do love musky and citrus notes in perfumes myself, but I did find the musky scent to fade down quite quickly with this Oxygene fragrance leaving it with a more floral and woody one. It certainly is a lovely feminine fragrance, that I do wear from time to time, but it would not be one I would buy for myself, although I would happily receive it as a gift again. It does make a nice change to wear it at times also.
I have received a few compliments on wearing this Lanvin Oxygene perfume and I have been asked what the scent was called. My husband has complimented on it also, so this has to be a good thing.
I would have to highly recommend this perfume though to try out. It would make a great gift for friends and I am sure some woman would love this fragrance a lot. I just have a few other perfumes that I love better than Oxygene. It really was nice trying it out as a present and at the moment I really think it is selling for a very cheap price. You really should give this fragrance a sniff if you do get the chance to, but it is hard to come across in the shops.
Well overall I was going to award this fragrance three stars. I think this might be unfair though as I was knocking one star off because it did not win me completely over, but I do like this perfume and I honestly think that there is woman out there that will love it, so I am awarding it four stars. Overall it really is a very fresh unique fragrance, that does smell great and lasts well.
This Lanvin Oxygene Eau de Toillette Spray can be purchased from Amazon at this present time for the very cheap price of £10.99 for 100ml. This really is a bargain in my opinion.
Reasons For Purchasing:
I first saw the film Trainspotting after hearing so much controversy about it on television, from reading about it in the newspapers and from everyone talking about it around me at the time. It was all everyone was talking about on it's release in 1996 and of course I just had to see it for myself to see what all the hype was about. Well I went to the pictures to watch this film and was quite shocked by this outrageously, yet brilliant tale of five Scottish drug users. It really was a hard-hitting film, but was put across like nothing I had ever really seen before. I think I liked it so much because it was a very real to life story and drugs where a big problem that was actually going on at that time, so I was pleased to see this film go out like some sort of warning for young people to never try this stuff because of what the characters all went through in this film.
Well it was only a few years ago that my husband purchased Trainspotting to add to our DVD collection as we both really enjoyed watching it over the years at various times on television (in a sick kind of way I guess). He picked it up second-hand for £1 at a car boot sale, so it certainly was a great bargain. This film really will not be suited to everyone though. I think you will either love it like I do, or absolutely hate it. It certainly is worth watching once though just to see.
Well Trainspotting has to be the liveliest, most pulse racing, addictive, outrageous, hard hitting, rollercoaster ride of a movie, that I have ever seen, on the shocking portrayal of drug addiction. It certainly is one of the best films to ever come out of the UK 'in my opinion' and a movie that will be watched and talked about for a long, long time to come. Danny Boyle directed this film, but forget his glory with Slumdog Millionaire for a moment...Well I will stick my neck out here and say this is Danny Boyle's best film. Yes it is!
Trainspotting was released in February 1996 and is based on a novel written by Irvine Welsh. I myself have yet to read this book, but I will get around to reading it for comparison. Well Trainspotting was Directed by Danny Boyle and was Produced by Andrew Macdonald. It cost £3,500,000 to make so was very low budget really. Trainspotting is in the top ten list of 'Best British Films' ever made and I personally would say it is near the very top of it. Trainspotting was very successful upon it's release also. It hit it big in the UK and also in America. It also won around 18 awards apparently, but failed on an Academy award. Time magazine also awarded Trainspotting the third best film of 1996. A little bit of controversy surrounded the film at the time. Some people said it supported and glorified drug use and others said the complete opposite. I think overall it was a frightening portrayal of drug use and it certainly would of not 'and still would not' make me want to touch the stuff after seeing how it effects the characters in this movie.
Well Trainspotting follows and is centred around the adventures 'or misadventures' really of five young lowlifes from Edinburgh in Scotland. Nearly all of them are Heroin addicts, but this film is not about making them look pitiful or anything like that. It Portrays them more as who they really are and how they want to be seen or accepted as.
Plot Of Film:
Set in the 1980's, Trainspotting begins with Mark Renton and his friend Spud being chased by security guards down a busy Edinburgh street. Mark Renton has nothing going for him really, has few ambitions in his life and is constantly having run in's with the law. The film is also very cleverly narrated by Mark Renton from the start of it also, who is giving his famous 'choose life' speech in the opening scene, of not wanting a proper family lifestyle, but instead choosing to live in the constant drug fuelled one he is surrounded by. We are then quickly introduced in this film to his other friends, who's lives all centre around their strong heroin addictions also.
The film really focuses on it's characters and who they all really are. It covers their will for a better lifestyle, which is drug free of course, but also shows the many reasons they stay hooked on drugs also. Well they have fun, suffer the consequences of drugs and travel through the darkest corners of Edinburgh's low-life to bring us a tale of self-destruction and of struggling to choose a normal life at times also. It almost is a plot-free story though.
Ewan McGregor - Mark Renton.
Ewen Bremner - Spud.
Jonny Lee Miller - Sick Boy.
Kevin McKidd - Tommy.
Robert Carlyle - Francis Begbie.
Kelly MacDonald - Diane.
Keith Allen - Dealer.
A Short Introduction To The Characters:
Mark Renton's (Ewan McGregor) escape from his unhappy life is through the use of drugs and mostly heroin, although he would try anything he could get his hands on really. He has many friends also, who are a group of liars, thieves and complete lunatics and are actually more disturbed than he is really. There is Sick Boy played by (Jonny Lee Miller) who is a real con-artist and who's hero is Sean Connery. There is also Spud (Ewan Bremner) who is a quiet and a very timid junkie. Then there's Begbie (Robert Carlyle) who gets his thrills in life from beating people up and is comical to watch. Finally there's Tommy (Kevin McKidd) who is always fighting the temptation to take heroin. Well they really are a right bunch of characters indeed.
Trainspotting is certainly a very shocking film in some places, but it never once comes across as being shown like this just for the sake of it at all. It really is a terrible life that these young characters are living, from what I can see as a viewer, from the outside looking in. From another angle though it is presented as hilariously funny at times and I found myself smiling and laughing a lot. Some scenes are far fetched and shocking, but I loved it all. The use of music, 'for example' Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" sarcastically used in a 'not so perfect day' is excellently and cleverly placed. Nothing is held back in this film at all. We are hit with everything and it makes this film a very unique and an enjoyable one indeed!
The Characters are all low life losers in Trainspotting. They are heroin addicts who come across as very real life people to me indeed. They are bad people really, but not evil. Their lives are gruesome and appalling, but they are all very interesting, witty, smart and in the end liked by me. I guess they come across as friends I should not really have. They are all different in character, but all share one interest and that is drugs. Trainspotting leaves nothing out from these drug addicts and hides nothing either. Needles are shown, death is shown and the appalling state these guys live in is also shown. It makes you sad at times also just watching them. Their addiction is so strong that it leaves them powerless. They think they are living normally when they are certainly not.
Well I personally thought this film was excellent. I loved everything about it. It really is very fast paced and flows along very nicely and had me on the edge of my seat at times. It also had me laughing out loud a lot at it also. There really is plenty of humour and very witty comments from all of the characters. It really is shocking at times. I mean shocking! It is full of repulsive swear words, but you do laugh at them and the way they are used also. Things we really don't show or talk about are all in this film and it is a real eye opener. It dares to go to places that no one at that time went to, but this made it all very exciting really and gives it a buzz.
Trainspotting never once lost my attention from it either. Not for a second. I was totally glued to it and caught up in the whole story from the word go. It really is Danny Boyles best film in my opinion and one of the best starring Ewan McGregor also. The director certainly did not make any mistakes with it at all. He seems to fit so much into the short 94 minutes of the running of it also, so this keeps you there focused and fully engrossed.
Trainspotting really does tell the truth about these drug addicts though. It tells it like it is and shows all these characters as bad guys with flaws and in a sick, strange and perverted kind of way, I really did find myself attracted to them all. They took me on their emotional rollercoaster ride and probably one of the most unique and yet 'bazzar' one's I have ever been on before. Trainspotting though was not just about heroin use to me. It was about friendship also.
Another thing I found, that this film really give me an experience of what it is like to take drugs, what it is like to be on a hit with them (from feeling great inside to being depressed and seeing things) and what it is like to go cold turkey also. It certainly was well researched and put across to us viewers, as I actually felt and saw the pain it caused also. I also think this film should be shown to all older teenagers as hopefully it would make them think twice before taking drugs.
Well even though Trainspotting has not really got a plot to it, I found the characters, the acting, the cinematography excellent and it really gives out a clear intense message as to what this film is really all about to me. Drug use and it's consequences. It really will leave a lasting impression on you and some scenes you never will forget after watching them, as some are really very disturbing. There is very few films though that I have watched that have come across as being so daring or to be this honest before. It will get right under your skin at times I found also. It certainly is an amazing portrayal of a difficult and hard-hitting subject of heroin addiction that shows graphic descriptions, but overall is a fantastic performance. It played with all of my emotions like no other film has ever done before.
All of the cast in Trainspotting are excellent actors and certainly played all of their roles given to them exceptionally well. Ewan McGregor certainly was the star of Trainspotting and played the main character of Mark Renton. His acting is in top form and he comes across as smart, witty and a real livewire. He plays the role of a drug addict amazingly and he makes you believe that he really is one. He even looks as if he lost weight in the film and looks extremely ill in one scene also.
Well all of the other characters play their roles very well. They are all very individual characters and really do become your low life friends. I found the Scottish accents very good also as most of the actors where actually not from Scotland. They really are a very unique and an interesting group of people that we quickly get introduced to and want to get to know about them all a little more.
Scenes, Location, Make-up and Special Effects:
Trainspotting is mostly filmed in the streets in and around Edinburgh, but I believe they filmed some of them actually in Glasgow. It shows many run down areas, derelict buildings and squats used by drug addicts that look very real and how you would imagine them to be. It really has a real Scottish tone to it all. The visual side and how we see a mugging as a ballet is well thought out in my opinion also. The use of one strong colour in certain scenes also shows us what is real and what is not and is well thought out. The use of greying out of colours in a death scene really makes this scene more shocking than it already is also. Along with using pop music for drug hits and other shocking events, it really is very well put together visually by the film producers indeed.
The scenes of drug using in this film are all set in dirty filthy rooms and vile toilets. It really shows what conditions are like when living this life with drugs. The use of make-up to show the characters looking pale and high on drugs or going cold turkey is very realistic and well-done also. A few good special effects involving a toilet are great 'if somewhat bazaar though' and are well done visually.
All of the costumes are just typically 1980's styled clothes worn by the cast. They look worn and dirty by the drug users, but they help to create this eighties feel to the film along with the haircuts also.
My Favourite Quotes From The Movie:
(1) Renton describes one drug-dealing friend, "We called him Mother Superior on account of the length of his habit."
(2) Renton: In a thousand years, there will be no men and women, just w**kers, and that's fine by me.
Music Throughout The Film:
The use of music and songs in Trainspotting is excellent. The way some songs are placed into certain scenes is outstanding. The soundtrack to Trainspotting was very popular also on it's release, but did not include all the songs used in the film, so a few years after the original was released another updated version was made and includes nearly all of the songs in the movie. It certainly is worth buying also if you enjoyed the film. The chosen songs really helped to make this film in my opinion and give the whole atmosphere to it all. Trainspotting certainly has one of the best soundtracks of the 1990's.
My two favourite tracks from the film are:
Lust for Life ~ Iggy Pop.
Perfect Day ~ Lou Reed.
I know myself when I first watched this film, that I could not figure out why the author had chosen the name Trainspotting as a title, because as far as I could see, there was nothing in the film about studying trains. Well apparently it is a word with a double barrel name that I only found out the meaning of a few years ago myself. Well the other tern for Trainspotting is to search for a suitable vein for drug injection, so this fit's the title of the film very well.
Well I also found another meaning as to why the title is called Trainspotting. Trainspotting is used to describe a group of Trainspotters and people often say to them to "Get A life" because they spend their time writing down serial numbers of trains, so "Get A Life" could also be said to the characters in the film also.
The copy of Trainspotting I own is an old 1998 original one that came on one disc, with just the chapter menu and movie trailer. A new collectors addiction is now available with many extras for fans.
My Overall Opinion:
Well Trainspotting has a mixture of pleasure and pain really, throughout it. More pleasure though, but the pain is certainly hard-hitting. You really will be cringing one minute and laughing out loud the next. Trainspotting really does tell the truth about these drug addicts in my opinion. It really takes you on a trip 'sort of speak' (no pun intended) with these young people through their actual drug hits, their cold turkeys and their low lives they really are living. We get into the deepest, darkest corners of these guys souls and it really is very disturbing at times, but also very amusing to watch. It is excellent though. I love it. I love everything about this film in that sick sort of way, that others who have not watched this film before would probably think I am twisted. Well if you have seen it, you will know what I mean though.
Well I would have to highly recommend Trainspotting for you to watch. It is one of my favourites films ever. I honestly think you will either love this film or hate it, but I certainly recommend watching it to find out. It really is an open and honest story of the lives of drug addicts, which is very interesting, fun at times and extremely different viewing. The casts performance is excellent. The soundtrack is fun, entertaining and lively. It really will keep you watching and focused and without wanting to miss a second of it for the whole 94 minutes of it's running. A big thumbs up from me and a full five stars awarded. It is excellent!
Trainspotting can be purchased online at Amazon and Ebay (new) at the moment for a few pounds. A new uncut two disc version can also be purchased for £26.00 with many extras including missing scenes, editors interview, an interview with the publisher of the book 'Irvine Welsh' and behind the scenes material also, so if you're a huge fan of the film it might be worth upgrading to this one, but it seems very expensive to me. Of course you can rent it out of catch it on television also. Certainly do watch it if you have not done so before.
Trainspotting is rated R (Under 17 requires an accompanying parent or guardian). It includes sexual situations, frontal nudity, graphic drug use, excrement, swear words and startling violence so be prepared!
Prom Night The Original 1980:
I first watched Prom Night many years ago when I was a teenager and I remember it as quite a scary horror movie of it's time. Maybe because it was one of the first horror films I had actually watched that made me remember it so well. Well I just recently picked Prom Night up quite cheaply on DVD and thought I would add it to my collection as it is a good film and one that I had enjoyed. My friends and I all talked about this film at School also I remember because of it's good and very original storyline (at that time) and because we all watched it under age really.
Well Prom Night was made in 1980 and stars Leslie Nielsen and Jamie Lee Curtis one of my favourite actresses from this era. The Movie is also directed by Paul Lynch. It was filmed in London Ontario Canada and was re-made last year in 2008. The Movie lasts for around an hour and a half and cost around $1,600000 to make, so was quite low budget really. Prom Night won a few awards shortly after it's release, from Best Achievement in Film Editing and Best Performance from a Foreign Actress by Jamie Lee Curtis also.
I have to admit that back in the 1980's this was actually a great film and quite a popular one also. Watching it many years later when it was transferred from video to DVD though, I would have to say that it is just your pretty average slasher movie that had it's idea stolen from better horror films at that time, although many modern day films have recaptured a similar storyline to it also. It is still a good film to watch really and to me this original is far better than the recent remake of it also and is certainly worth watching.
Well Prom Night is not just a Horror story in my opinion, but it is also a Mystery, a Thriller and a who done it suspense film all rolled into one. It starts off in a creepy enough manner, mostly involving young people and when a game of hide and go seek goes horribly wrong for them all and someone dies, they swear to keep it to themselves. Years later though someone decides to get their revenge. The gradual build-up of the Prom Night film is good though. Vengeance never rests in peace.
Mr. Hammond . . . . Leslie Nielsen

Wendy . . . . Eddie Benton

Plot of the Movie Prom Night:
Prom Night starts of in 1974 and it opens up by showing a group of children who are around 11 years of age named Wendy Richards, Nick McBride Jude Cunningham and Kelly Lynch who are all enjoying a game of hide and go seek in an old derelict School building. The children meet 10 year old Robin Hammond nearby and she joins in with the game also, but soon the group start to bully and tease her and tragically she falls from an upstairs window of the building to her death. The four children make a pact to never tell anyone that they bullied her to death and pretend it is all an accident, but little do they know that someone had been watching them that tragic night and is set on revenge.
The storyline then quickly skips on six years to 1980 and to the eve of Robins death when her family are remembering her anniversary and the terrible event of how she died. Robin's sister and brother Kim (Jamie lee Curtis) and Alex, are getting ready for their school prom, which is being staged on the eve of Robins death also. During that day though Kelly, Jude and Wendy start to receive strange, frightening phone calls and find little threatening notes left around the place for them. Well this is where the fun, suspense and film really do begin and this thriller slowly unfolds.
Well to sum this film up better, it really is a teenaged thriller, mostly set in a large High School in Canada with a lot of little sub plots involved that threaten the main event in this film, which is the Prom Night and they really do turn it all into a great horror story really.
My Thoughts On Prom Night:
Well Prom Night is quite a slow moving film really. It really takes a while for it to get going and the prologue is a good ten minutes long . I guess if it did not have such a strong cast to it either, it would not of been as popular at the time. It does a great job though of having you guessing who done it right the way throughout this film and keeps you guessing right up until the very end of it also. Honestly you will think everyone is the obsessed killer in this film. This was one of Paul Lynch's first horror films he made and it seems as if two storylines are going on at once at times. It does flash back and forward between the two though and concludes with it all leading the same way and in quite strong detail. The first half of this film is filmed mostly during the day and the second half of this film is set at night.
The second part of Prom Night really is when the horror side to this film kicks in and the deranged murderer actually only then starts killing people off. All the deaths play out quite well in my opinion also and are all interesting and very creepy to watch. Prom Night is also a fun film at times though and is quite enjoyable to watch. There is plenty of funny dialogue between all the teenagers, especially when they are misbehaving themselves. It is a very typical 80's type of horror though and Prom Night has a bit of a cheesy disco scene in it and when watching it today makes me think "Did I actually like and get on like this also?" Well it is bearable I guess, but this is five minutes of pure eighties cheese so be warned.
Prom night gradually builds up, collects the characters in it's storyline and gives you plenty of background on them all before the killer 'slowly' begins his revenge on them later in the film. It really is a relatively short film, but it is very entertaining in my opinion overall. To me it really all builds up slowly, then it lets rip eventually, the horror side to it, in one long and very scary Prom scene.
The climax to Prom Night is also quite exciting in my opinion. It really will keep you on the edge of your seat and waiting impatiently for the obsessed raving lunatic to be revealed once and for all. It had me though the first time I watched it I remember and I got it all very wrong indeed.
Well Prom Night is a creative movie and it's quite a teen drama really, but I think it worked well because it actually had a good story behind it and an actual motive for the killer, unlike many modern horrors today seem to leave out. It also sets a very realistic scene early on in the film that makes it slightly different to the films of it's time. Prom Night is just not as good as Friday 13th though (which was made a year or two before Prom Night) and is more of a suspense mystery, rather than your standard slasher horror film. The mystery to it all is great though and the kill scenes are really quite mild, with just a few little short scenes of blood and gore which to me lowers the rating down for younger viewers to be able to watch this film also.
I have watched the film "I know What You Did Last Summer" also and Prom Night really is quite similar to it in storyline, but made much better, so if you like that type of movie yourself, you certainly will like Prom Night.
Special Effects, Scenes, Costumes and Make-up:
A great chase throughout the School building is filmed very well in Prom Night, which adds to the suspense of it all and helps to add the little twists that come with this film also. At the time it was probably well done, but watching it now on DVD, I have to say that the scenes are ok, but nothing special and perhaps a little predictable really. The films opening scenes of the children exploring an old School building are still quite eerie to me though, even when watching it today. The gorey bits in Prom Night are pretty average also now, but I think for it's time, it probably was the best job they could do and although it rarely makes you jump, it is still a good old fashioned horror with one very memorable scene which involves an axe.
I also think because the second half of the film is filmed at night, it is quite dark in parts, even on the newer DVD version and some scenes are a little bit fuzzy at times also. It is ok though and not too bad, but could do with being digitally re-mastered to me.
There is plenty of the heavy breathing phone calls in this film also and the raspy voice we hear down the phone line is quite convincing of that of a serial murdering stalker. The blood levels in Prom Night is minimum really, so those with a faint heart might find this film ok. What I liked also about Prom Night was the many little bits of suspense, the twists and turns it took, which kept it thoroughly interesting and had me completely caught up in it all. It really is an above average horror film I enjoyed.
The start of Prom Night is set in an old derelict School house, looks very realistic to me and is shot well. The way the camera covers the shadows and takes on the killers point of view is also good. There is great shots set in the isolated empty high school corridors later on in Prom Night also ,that is filmed very well and really gives it a very eerie feel, makes you feel as if you're there yourself, alone in that School and has you spooked out a little.
The make-up and special effects is quite good in Prom Night. The blood looks very real and the scene at the very start of the movie where the young girl dies is quite upsetting and looks very realistic in my opinion. The prom scene is where most of the special effects do take place though and the whole horror aspect is very well done, even though it was filmed way back in the early eighties.
The Costumes in this film are very good and all the cast are dressed in true eighties style. The prom dresses wore by the girls where very trendy at that time I remember. The murderer wears a dark ski mask all of the time also which helps to give him his stalker effect and his scary, yet mysterious appearance that hides him so well. All the outdoor scenes are shot well also in Prom Night and certainly takes you back to the eighties era right down to it's cheesy, yet likable, disco tunes.
Jamie Lee Curtis in the early eighties was loved for her roles in these slasher type films. Well she plays her role as Kim Hammond very well in Prom Night. She certainly delivers the best role in this entire movie and shines out against the rest of the cast. Her character comes across as a very popular High School Student that's very independent really. I liked her character in Prom Night a lot and thought her acting skills where in top form from her.
I also thought Lesley Nielson played his non-comedic role very well in Prom Night. It was hard to picture him at first in such a serious role because of all the comedy's he has starred in, but he does a great job really in this film. His character of the School principal is great, but his cheesy disco dancing makes you hide behind your pillow (not with fright though) but from cringing watching him move in true Travolta style.
All of the other characters in Prom Night are fun to watch and play their parts very well in my opinion, from your typical bully to your young teenage virgin. I personally thought the acting was good from all of them. They are all quite likable characters really, but overall I think it's fun watching 22 year olds and over's playing a group of younger High School students.
This Movie has three sequels to it:
Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II (1987)
Prom Night III: The Last Kiss (1990)
Prom Night IV: Deliver us from Evil (1992)
Music Throughout Prom Night:
The Prom Night soundtrack is highly sought after, but it was only ever released in Japan apparently. It has many great tracks on it, but it has never been released to date in the UK. It certainly is a very interesting soundtrack to a horror film with it's true eighties tunes, but they all work very well in helping to give the film it's overall effect.
Tracks played in this film include:
All Is Gone - Blue Bazar
Dancing In The Moonlight.
Fade to Black.
All Is Gone (Instrumental) - Blue Bazar.
Time to Turn Around.
Love Me Till I Die.
Prom Night 2.
Forever - Blue Bazar.
My Favourite Quote From The Film:
Just remember it's not who takes you to the prom, it's who drives you home ~Wendy.
Well Prom Night came out a long time ago on video and when it was released onto DVD in 2004 all it had included on it is one disc with 5 chapter pauses and an awful looking menu. That is it. The 2008 version has more chapter stops I believe and a better menu to it, but that's it also. It really needs revamped as it is an old film. For those seeking extras with this film, well I am sorry to say there is none.
My Overall Opinion:
Overall this is a very highly recommended Horror Movie by me that I have watched many times over the years and still enjoy watching it today. A new version of Prom Night was re-made and released last year, but it certainly was not as good as the original one. I would recommend this movie to everyone to watch, who enjoys a good "Who done in Horror Thriller" It might be an older Movie, but the effects are still good and the acting and music in this movie are very enjoyable also.
Well Prom Night to me is just not as good as the film Halloween (which was released around the same time this film was). Prom Night has more of a storyline to it, but lacks at originality really, although it probably at the time was one of the first horror films to take on this storyline, but has been drowned out a little by the many similar ones made after it. It is still up there though as a great horror film (or more of a thriller) and it certainly takes on many in this genre and it is certainly much better than those I have watched in the last ten years have been.
The final thirty minutes or so of this film to me, where actually the best in Prom Night with some fairly solid scenes and a lot of chasing, running around and real excitement happening. It really does keep you on the edge of your seat though and has you thinking hard to who this lunatic really could be.
Well I personally think, that for it's age Prom Night does hold up well and is a great forgotten thriller of it's day. Even today it is very watchable like lots of the older horrors are and is certainly one I recommend watching if you have not done so before. It really is a good evenings entertainment in my opinion, that will keep you in suspense and have your mind really working overtime. I thoroughly enjoy it every time I watch it and I am sure you will also if your into horrors or thriller stories.
I really do think Prom Night is a forgotten horror film. I am going to award it four stars overall. I took one star of for it being very dark in a little part of it though, but it's not a bad horror film for it's age.
Prom Night is rated 18 (well this version is anyway) I would say 15 years + would be fine watching this film as it's more a thriller than a full blown slasher horror. It runs for 89 minutes and can also be purchased from £3- £16 pound online which is expensive really or it can be rented out also.
Reason For Purchasing L'Oreal Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkle Day Cream:
I have been using L'Oreal Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkle Day Cream for nearly one year now, so I thought I would write a review on it to let others know my opinion on this beauty product. Well I was first introduced to this cream when I watched an advertisement for it on television one evening featuring the actress Andie MacDowell. I really was quite impressed on what it contained and how it claimed to work, so I was quite interested in this cream and wanted to try it out for myself really. Well the next time I went shopping I actually saw this beauty product on a special introductory offer in Superdrug, nicely displayed and this enticed me more into buying it. It had a few pound off it on this Introductory offer I remember. The full retail price 'at the time' for this cream was going to be around £15.00 and I could not let this offer pass me by, so I bought it.
Well another reason I bought the L'Oreal Revitalift cream was because I had started to notice a few wrinkles 'or frown lines' on my forehead, a few crows feet around my eyes and a little tiny bit of looseness to the skin around my mouth. I am 38 years old and had used Olay products for over ten years. I was happy using them and tried all the new ones that they kept making and was pleased enough with them really. Well I had seen this cream advertised, as I mentioned above and thought maybe my Olay products where not working as well as they should as I was starting to notice my skin looking a little bit wrinkly on it so thought it was time I started using something else also.
Firstly, What This Cream Claims To Do:
Well L'Oreal Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkle Day Cream contains the anti-wrinkle ingredient called Pro-Retinol A. Pro-Retinol A 'apparently' will deliver vitamin A to your skin cells, revitalize cell metabolism which helps to give it a healthy and more youthful glow. Pro-Retinol A also claims to smooth, soften your skin and boost it's collagen production. Collagen production then 'apparently ' increases in elasticity. Pro-Retinol A also claims to lessen the appearance of wrinkles by reducing the number and length of lines which will then leave your skin beautifully soft and smooth. This information I obtained from the L'Oreal site, but I thought it would be useful to explain what's in this cream and how it works.
Also combined in the L'Oreal Deep Set Wrinkle Cream is Fibro-Plastyl which apparently will help to reinforce your skin. Fibro-Plastyl is a type of herb by the way. Well these combined ingredients claim to moisture, reinforce your skins surface structure for you, so your skin should be left smoother, rejuvenated and those deep set lines or wrinkles you might have should apparently appear reduced and your skin should be noticeably firmer. L'Oreal Revitalift also contains SPF 15 UV Protection which is good also, as it gives you a little protection from the Suns harmful rays. These ingredients are all clinically proven also. So does this cream work? Well read on.
Packaging And Design:
The L'Oreal Deep Set Wrinkle Day Cream comes in a well presented white gift box which is useful if you are going to give it to someone as a gift, but being a deep set wrinkle cream I think you might offend someone really, so unless they specifically ask you for it as a gift, I would recommend only buying it to try out for yourself. Well it comes in this nice little gift box which is well presented in gold lettering and has a nice picture of the actual container the cream comes in on the front of it also. A little information on the product, the words L'Oreal and the size of the container that the cream comes in (which is 50ml) is nicely printed on there also. Overall a well designed gift box in my opinion.
The container or little bottle that the L'Oreal Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkle Cream comes in looks very nice in my opinion. It really is well designed also. It is a clear plastic cylinder container and inside of that it has another little red cylinder which contains the cream. It is flat bottomed and quite lightweight also. At the top of the bottle before the pump dispenser it has a lovely shiny silver rim with the words L'Oreal engraved into it. The silver rim with the red coloured cylinder really sets it all off and makes it look very stylish to me. Well also on the bottle is the words L'Oreal Paris, Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkles and other information that states that this creams a restoring day cream, is an anti-wrinkle plus a firming cream and this is all written clearly in white print. On the back of the bottle the size of the bottle, the L'Oreal website address, the expiry date of using the cream 'which is within twelve months from when first opening' and directions of use can be found there also.
The Pump Dispenser:
The pump dispenser on this Revitalift cream is very good. It is made of a thick white plastic and is locked when you first receive it. You just turn it gently to the left and this opens the pump action up and on pressing it down will release the cream for you. The locking action is a good touch in my opinion if you want to carry this cream around with you in your bag as it will not leak any cream out on you. Well the pump action works very well. One pump of this cream releases a pea size amount of the cream and this enables me to cover one side of my face. Another little press will give you the right amount of cream for the other side of your face. There is a very tiny rectangular slit where the cream comes out of though and this does get clogged over if you leave any unused cream on it to dry in, so my advice is to wipe it with your finger or some cotton wool after you use it. It's not a big problem though, but it has clogged up on me a few times. Well overall a great working dispenser that lets out just the perfect amount of cream each time, so saves waste.
The Cream Itself:
This Revitalift Deep Set Cream comes out of the dispenser really well. It is 'off white' in colour and is neither a thick or a runny cream. It is the perfect consistency to me and it certainly applies to my skin very well and very evenly indeed. I found a few gentle rubs completely covers my whole face with two tiny pumps of the cream from the dispenser. I tend to rub it in well around my mouth, eyes and on my forehead for a few seconds also. It really is a very nice cream to apply to your skin in my opinion and goes on very easily and very smoothly indeed. The cream also does not dry into your skin straight away, so this allows you to massage it in where you want it to. After a few minutes you can feel it drying in and it feels more powdery when touching it. It really is not a very greasy cream either like a few others I have tried. This cream feels very lightweight on my skin also and feels very luxurious wearing it.
The L'Oreal Revitalift Cream really has a very mild fragrance to it. It certainly does not smell of chemicals either. To me, this cream has a very faint scent that is very pleasant. It reminds me of a baby powder in fragrance. A tiny bit sweet, but it is a very mild and fresh, clean fragrance. Well it really is a very faint aroma and you have to hold your hand or the bottle up close to your nose to actually smell anything from it really. This is good I find, as I do not really like putting perfumed fragrances near my face, as mine can be sensitive to soaps and fragranced products. I would nearly say this product is an un-fragranced one really.
The Effect's Of The Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkles:
I apply this cream in the morning after my shower and have done so every single day for nearly one year now. Well after I have applied it evenly and worked it in well, I can actually feel the firming action that this cream has working and tightening my skin up especially around my cheeks and eye area. I can't see this effect, but I can certainly feel it on my skin. Also on first applying the cream I noticed the smoothness to my skin straight away. When rubbing my hand over my face it really does feel very nice and really soft. This cream really does moisturise your skin instantly and has a lovely cooling effect also to it I find. It leaves a lovely velvety feel to your skin overall.
As a moisturiser this cream is one of the best I have ever used before on my face. I love the effect it gives and the way it makes my skin feel. Well does it reduce wrinkles? I hear you cry. Well not at first. You certainly will not notice any difference to your skin after one week of using it wrinkle wise. You will notice the firming and moisturising effects straight away, but the disappearance of wrinkles, no.
Well after one month of using the L'Oreal Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkle cream I was slightly surprised one morning. It was actually looking as if the four deep lines I had on my forehead now looked smaller and more smoothed out and not as deep to me. I thought maybe it was the light in the room and sort of doubted the cream really as actually being able to do this, so thought nothing more off it until a good couple of months later when I thought the skin around my mouth was actually firming up a little there to. Honestly I did notice this. The few wrinkles I had where certainly a little bit fainter looking to me. They where still there, but to me they really did look fainter.
In August it was my Grandsons 1st Birthday. My husband took lots of photos that day and I uploaded them on my computer a few days later and my daughter and I had fun looking at them. A photograph of myself holding my Grandson came up and my daughter said "oh Mum you look so young there" ????? WHAT! I swear. My 12 year old said this to me. I had no foundation or anything on that day either as it was Summer and I don't wear it in Summer. I can honestly say I was very surprised with what my daughter was saying to me. Maybe it was just a good photograph I don't know, but they say the camera never lies. I honestly do not want to stick my neck out and say this cream did this, but it has crossed my mind. I am afraid to say it works very well at smoothing out wrinkles as people might think I am lying, but honestly, I am writing an honest review and I do believe this cream does work at smoothing out wrinkles. Not miraculously or anything, but I honestly think it works somehow. Lots of people are saying to me that I don't look the age I am which really is pleasing me also. Maybe I am just lucky. I don't know.
I went on a few websites recently to read up on this cream as dooyoo only has four reviews on it and one site I came across has 49 reviews written about this product. Well out off a 5 rating on that site, this cream got a rating of 4.29 out of those 49 people. I started reading the reviews and they where all good also and others where claiming this works at smoothing out their wrinkles also. If you do not believe me I can send you a link. Have L'Oreal actually got a product that works? It is hard to believe and I still do not know what to really think myself, but it is looking like it. It will be interesting to see what this cream does with long term use of it. I certainly won't be buying anything else now. L'Oreal recommend using this cream along with a few others in this range, for your eye area etc, for even better effects. These products are down in price, so I am going to start using them also. This bottle of cream has lasted me about 11 months so I certainly think this it is good value and for such a small bottle, it really has lasted very well.
Another little thing about this cream I find, is that it dries very quickly after applying it. In the morning I can apply my foundation and other make-up, straight after I apply this Wrinkle cream and I no longer have to wait a while on the dying of it like I did with my other facial creams I previously used. This is another plus point to this cream. Once applied in the mornings it leaves your skin soft, feeling firmer and looking quite radiant, right through until the very next day. The more you use it I found. The better the results it gives you.
L'Oreal recommends to use this Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkle cream daily, every morning on perfectly cleansed skin. It is said to be a restoring day cream, an anti-wrinkle cream and also a firming cream. I can honestly say that it is. It also recommends that when first opening this cream, to use it up within 12 months. L'Oreal has a great website for more information on this product at www.lorealparis.com.
My Overall Opinion:
My bottle of Revitalift Cream ran out last week and I went straight out and bought another bottle of it when it did. I certainly will not be using anything else for the time being, unless another great cream comes along or until I can afford a facelift or Botox. My Mum has used many expensive face creams, some costing hundreds of pounds and she says she is sticking with this one also, as this cream gives the same effect as they do and for a fraction of their price. I honestly can not believe I am writing a good review on an anti-aging cream that works. But I am. I really hope others will give this cream a try now also and read up about it and check out the many good write ups it is getting.
Well overall this cream is fantastic. I love the effect and smoothness it creates to my skin, but I really am pleased most of all with the smoothness it makes to those few wrinkles I have. I honestly am saying I can see the difference. Oh the wrinkles are still there, but they certainly are much finer (especially on my forehead) and are really not as noticeable to me. I wonder if this cream will stop the appearance of other wrinkles appearing also. I guess only time and other people accounts of it will tell though. It will be very interesting to see my skin in another years time. I also love the lightness to this cream and the way it makes my skin velvety to the touch. The little bottle is so easy to use and apply the cream with also. There's no mess and no greasiness with this product either which is great.
I certainly will have to highly recommend this cream to you. You really should try it out and use it for a few months and see what you think about it for yourself. I really think it takes time to work and hopefully you will notice a difference like I honestly have. Well I really am impressed with it overall. I think it is a remarkable product and one I really am pleased I tried out. My skin really feels and looks much smoother than before and what I really like the most, is that this product is affordable to me.
Well if you have got this far in reading my review you with know by now that I am extremely impressed with it so there's nothing less than 5 stars for this wonderful product from L'Oreal.
This L'Oreal Revitalift Deep Wrinkle Cream can be bought at the moment, from Amazon, for £9.99. To me this is bargain for this cream because it works well and the bottle lasted nearly one year also.
Reasons For Purchasing:
Far and away is one of the best drama films I have watched. It certainly is high on my list of best ever films and is one I bought on DVD for my collection as I enjoyed it so much. This film not only takes the cast on a great adventure from Ireland to America in the late 1890's, it also takes us as a viewer there also and what a thoroughly enjoyable trip it is in my opinion. From the very first scene I was hooked to this film and also kept there, focused, right until the final credits rolled.
This really is an excellent movie that I have watched many times over the years and every time I do, I seem to pick up another piece of the story that I somehow missed before. Far and away was released in 1992 and is an adventure, drama, and romance film all rolled into one that is brilliantly directed by Ron Howard. It stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman so it certainly has two great performers in it's cast. The movie lasts for 140 minutes and it cost $30 to make apparently.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman play Irish immigrants in this film seeking their fortune in 1890's America and then eventually they take part in the great Land Run of 1893. Tom Cruise was heavily criticized for his Irish accent not sounding realistic in this film, but the acting from them both, really makes up for it in my opinion. It really is an excellent performance from the pair, although they did not win any awards for it unfortunately.
The Films Plot:
Far and away starts of with Joseph Donnelly (Tom Cruise) a handsome young Irish farmer who is faced with eviction from his family home after his Father dies. Well Joseph is mad inside when he finds out this news, so he plans to seek his revenge on his spiteful landlord named Daniel Christie (Robert Prosky) by attempting to kill him. He is caught though, by Daniel's daughter, Shannon Christie (Nicole Kidman) and she injures him with a pitch fork when he tries to escape from her home. Joseph is held captive, but manages to get hold of a gun and tries to shoot Daniel Christie, but the gun explodes in his face injuring him instead. Joseph is looked after and held in the Christie house while they treat his wounds, but he knows the family are really planning to have him hanged for his crime.
Shannon Christie is also growing weary of not being able to express her views to her Mother and wants to be a modern girl. She rebels against her Mother by playing America's modern music on her piano when her Mothers friends come around for tea. Her Mother is disgusted with her for doing this, so Shannon plans, behind her parents back, to leave for America to claim land that's being given away for free. Shannon asks Joseph to help her and accompany her on the trip, so he plans the escape for them both.
Well the two of them flee the Christie home after and the wealthy Shannon pays for Joseph's ticket to America. Well Joseph pretends to be Shannon's servant and the pair set off on a large ship destined for America, with dreams of free land spinning around in their heads. Shannon meets a man on the ship and tells him about wanting to get some free land for herself. He tells her that they need to travel west to Oklahoma when they arrive in America as this is where they are giving the land away.
Well once in America this is where the film really does begin. It is a story of hopes and dreams really, that is packed to the gills full of many different events that happen to Joseph and Shannon on it's journey. It is a romantic adventure and a very inspirational tale in my opinion that will keep you captivated for the whole running of this film. Opposites really do indeed attract in this film.
Joseph Donnelly ... Tom Cruise.
Shannon Christie ... Nicole Kidman.
Daniel Christie ... Robert Prosky.
Nora Christie ... Barbara Babcock.
Molly Kay ... Eileen Pollock.
Stephen ... Thomas Gibson.
Grace ... Michelle Johnson.
Kelly ... Colm Meaney.
My Thoughts On The Far And Away Movie:
Far And Away is the type of film which path is one most of us would like to travel on in our lives really. It really is a strange twist of fate that brings these two young people together in life. They really are complete opposites though. Shannon is from a very wealthy land owning family and Joseph is from a very poor working class farming one. They both share one dream though and that is to go to America and win some land, so this joins the two characters together to help them both find their destiny's.
Well this film in my opinion is very enjoyable, although it can be a little predictable at times. This takes nothing away from this fairytale type of film though as it still is an excellent film to watch. I honestly fell in love with this movie from the word go. There is plenty of little twists and turns that do keep you guessing at times also. It really is all about hopes and dreams, hardship and money really. It is a tale of immigrants going to America that soon realise not everything is about owning land, but learning that love is important also.
Shannon and Joseph really are a clash of characters though. The sparks do fly a lot between these two and it is quite hilarious watching them. They hurl plenty of great one liners back and forth to each other that do have you laughing a lot out loud when hearing them. The romance between the two characters though is quickly noted, but it does take a while for anything to happen between the two of them also. Every single moment between these two is very entertaining really.
Far and Away is your typical boy meets girl movie, but I think it's the social status and time period that they meet in, that really gives this movie a unique little tale of it's own. The film is a great adventure film also. There is plenty going on in this film and there's never a dull moment either. It also teaches us a little of Americas History as lots of people in the 1800's left Ireland and where drawn to winning land in America and it is good to see how this was done, how people lived and what they went through to achieve their dreams.
Far And Away is a fairly long film, but it certainly does not feel like it. It is fast moving and filled with so many different and interesting scenes that it really keeps you clued to it throughout. The film is very suited to both male and female viewers in my opinion. There is a love story involved, a great bare fist boxing scene, horse riding stunts and fantastic music to suit everyone all onboard it also. I loved it and think it would be hard not to really.
Shannon and Joseph also both come together in this film by learning to help each other out in tough circumstances and it really shows their strength and determination to succeed in their lives. I loved the tale of not only romance, but of the history, their class, the politics, class discrimination and humour in this film also. It really was very well made, well researched and put together brilliantly in my opinion overall.
Tom Cruise plays his character of Joseph Donnelly exceptionally well in my opinion. He is a very likable young Irish farmer from a very poor family, but is determined to follow in his fathers footsteps of wanting to own some land of his own. He really shows some great acting skills in this film, from being very serious, to romantic and also being quite comical at times. He also shows us he's got a bit of muscle and toughness to him, as there's a great bare fist boxing scene which brings out his character very well. His Irish accent to me at times was a little off, but overall his acting makes up for it.
Nicole Kidman's character in Far and Away is a pleasure to watch. She plays Shannon Christie, the daughter of a very wealthy landowner extremely well. She really is a stuck up snob at first in this film, but is very level headed, smart and also a very determined, set in her ways young woman also. You really cannot help but like her. She is very comical at the start of this film and is very feisty also. Nicole certainly gives this film everything and shows what an incredible actress she really is.
Well all of the other characters in Far And Away are all great actors. There is plenty of great characters to meet along the way in this film and some are very comical, quite mean and lovable at times really. Shannon's Mother and Father are a great pair to watch and also Shannon's boyfriend Stephen Chase (Thomas Gibson) plays the awful, mean and typical bad guy we see in so many films really. All of the films characters though give top performances also.
The Costumes, Scenery And Special Effects:
There is plenty of visual excitement and great wagon racing scenes in Far And Away. To me it is well done and very realistic to watch. Also there is one scene of Tom Cruise bare back riding a horse and it is actually quite funny watching him, but very well filmed. The background scenes and real scenery taken in Ireland are really nice and show plenty of beautiful lush green hills and swooping sea shots also. There really is plenty of great shots in this film, from the picturesque Irish scenery to the large American desert and it's vast open land.
The film takes on quite a western touch in the last half an hour of it and it has lots of horses, wagons and desert sand involved. The background scenes are great and are meant to be filmed in Oklahoma, but I don't think they where actually shot there. There is also a great train stunt with Tom Cruise also that I quite enjoyed watching.
Also the setting for the Far And Away film of the late 1890's is very realistic in my opinion and very well done. We get a look at how people lived and worked at that time also. We see plenty of run down slum areas in America, to large grand houses all filled with the best furniture of that time. Plenty of money was certainly spent on scenery in this Far And Away movie and the scenes all look fantastic to me.
The costumes of the 1890's era are also really good in Far And Away. We see lots of beautiful expensive gowns worn by Shannon and her rich friends and family. They are very colourful and show that they where the height of fashion of that time. We also see the poorer styled clothes worn by Joseph and those in the slum areas of America also. It is all very well in keeping to this time period indeed. The make up is done well also and there is a little bit of fake blood used in the bare fist boxing scene that certainly looks real, but is not for the faint hearted to watch really.
The Music throughout Far And Away is excellent. It really does help to give each scene a little bit of atmosphere. There is beautiful Irish folk music at the start of this film when it is set in Ireland and makes you feel as if you are actually there in the land of the leprechauns. It honestly is a well put together score that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to and it really did help to make this film overall.
The Far And Away Movie also has an excellent soundtrack available and features nineteen great songs that are played during the movie on board it, from Book Of Days by Enya and Fighting For Dough by The Chieftains, which where two of my favourite songs in this film and fitted the whole atmosphere very well indeed. It is certainly worth buying the soundtrack also if you enjoy this film.
My Favourite Quotes From The Film:
(1) Shannon Christie: She's got an awfully large chest to be going' to church.
Joseph Donnelly: Shannon, all chests are equal in the eyes of our Lord.
(2) Shannon Christie: Get your filthy hands off me you ugly animal!
Flynn: That will cost you a day's wage. Go ahead. Insult me again.
This DVD comes with one disc with16 chapters and after that the film trailer. That's it. Extras included only are theatrical notes, production notes; film makers notes and directors notes. Biographies about Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are included, a little tiny snippet of information about the film is included and a little bit of information from the director Ron Howard, but it really is disappointing. I guess they will eventually get around to making a special edition to update this DVD with extras like a few older movies have done.
My Overall Opinion:
Well this really was an amazing film that I enjoyed from start to finish and I will certainly be watching it again. I highly recommend Far And Away to everyone that has never seen it before as it really is a well put across story of hardship, love and drama that will keep you clued to your seat. The acting is excellent in it and the characters are really well thought about and acted out perfectly by all the cast members. The costumes are great and the stunts and action scenes are very realistic. A great family movie indeed (although I would certainly not recommend it for young children to watch due to the boxing scene) There is also a few swear words in this film also.
Far And Away really does make a wonderful evenings entertainment. It is a great film to snuggle down to for a great two and a half hours of jam packed viewing. There is something in this film for everyone to see and it has plenty of funny one liners to make you laugh out loud to also. It certainly plays with your emotions at times, but is a very warming film that I personally enjoyed a lot. Some parts of this film are predicable. Some parts of this film are not, so it is a little bit of a bumpy ride at times, but straightens out very well really.
Well honestly. If you have never seen Far And Away before I strongly recommend giving it a watch. It was set in the late 1800,s, so it certainly should never date really, as at the time it was very well made and a lot of money was spent on producing it. It certainly is a great storyline I enjoyed and it left me thinking afterwards about these two characters for a while. A great adventure story that begins in the Emerald Isle Of Ireland, flows along over the Atlantic Ocean and finishes up in the enticing Land Of The Free.
Far And Away has received some mixed reviews over the years about it's 'apparently' weak storyline. Well honestly I did not find it weak at all and wonder what people actually are watching at times. Of course everyone has their own tastes and opinions, but I certainly would have to give this film a full five stars. I was going to knock one star off for the PG rating given to this film as I honestly do not think it appropriate for this movie, but I thought that unkind and will still award this film full marks.
Far and away is rated a PG-13 film and this maybe is inappropriate in my opinion, as I found a few of the scenes like in the Bare Boxing Fight quite bloody and violent really, so I would strongly recommend watching it without your child first to make sure you would approve of them seeing this scene. An over 13 rating would have been a much rating to give this film in my opinion.
Far And Away can be purchased for under £3 on Amazon at the moment. This is great value in my opinion as it was the type of film, once I had watched it, wanted to add it to my DVD collection. Well look out for it on TV also, as it is highly recommended by me, but £3. You could just about rent this out for that, so buying it would be better.
Reason For Purchasing:
This was not a product I would of ever thought of buying, but my friend is a Betterware rep and I always feel obliged to order something from her each month when she hands me a catalogue. Well I have many Betterware products in my home and to be honest some of them are actually very good and this oven liner is certainly one of them.
Well I bought this large oven liner over one year ago, as it was on an offer in the Betterware book at the time. It cost me £7.99, but it is usually around £9.99. This is a hard product to review actually, but I basically just want to recommend it. I ordered this liner and received it in a see through plastic wrapper with a little note on how to use and clean it etc inside.
This large oven liner is apparently made from a PTFE coated, non stick fabric. PTFE (by the way) is also used as a non-stick coating for pots and pans and is more commonly know as Teflon. Well to me the oven liner is made of a black plastic type of material which is quite unusual and has a really unique feeling to the touch. It feels very smooth and is lightweight also. It certainly is a material I have not come across before and is obviously not plastic, as it would not be oven proof, but it sure feels like it to me. Well there certainly is not much to this oven sheet. It is just a plastic type of oven sheet that sits on the bottom of my oven base. It feels very well made, is quite thick and is a very strong material also. It is hard to crinkle it or tear it by hand, I have found also.
Installing The Oven Sheet:
This oven sheet was certainly easy to install. I just unfolded it and tried it out for size at the bottom of my oven (where it is meant to go by the way) This large sheet fitted inside my oven base (it is 50cmx40cm in size) but I did need to trim it to size, in length, and this was done very easily with a pair of scissors. These oven sheets also come in a medium size also, as I noticed them in the Betterware catalogue. Well I took out the bottom wire rack of my oven and set this oven sheet inside. It is not sticky based or anything, but it seems to magnetise itself to the metal base inside. Well that is it really about installing this sheet. I just popped it on my oven base and waited to test it out. If you have a double oven you could also use this oven liner on the base of the grill part also, as it will not catch fire and is safe to do so.
The Purpose Of The Oven Sheets And Use:
This oven sheet is designed to collect all those horrible spillages and crumbs that we collect on the bottom of our ovens without the effort of having to use elbow grease and oven cleaners to clean them off. My first use of my oven with this oven sheet involved, was to cook a pizza. The sheet did not flap about with the fan of my oven when I turned it on. It stayed perfectly still at the bottom and I noticed also that the oven liner did not heat up or get hot.
Well of course there was plenty of pizza crumbs left behind in my oven after the pizza was cooked, but instead of them being on the oven base, they where sitting on top of this oven sheet. I will have to admit I did not take this sheet out of my oven after cooking my pizza, to wash it. I left in there until the next day and only took it out after I had cooked a casserole, as it bubbled over and leaked out all over this oven sheet.
Cleaning And Maintenance:
Well taking the oven sheet out to clean it was very easy to do. It just lifts out with no effort at all. I just picked it up around ten minutes after I had turned my oven off, set it by the side of my sink and wiped it over with a soapy damp cloth. I could not believe that the gravy from my casserole had not stuck or dried into it. It certainly was a non stick sheet and it really was a breeze to remove the gravy from it.
Well I have cleaned many a spillage and crumbs so easily from this oven sheet. If I cook a chicken or greasy foods and they spill unto this oven sheet, I then tend to pop it into the dishwasher, as I hate cleaning grease of things by hand. This sheet is dishwasher friendly. It comes out of your dishwasher like the day you bought it. I have cleaned this sheet dozens of times in the last year and it has really held up very well indeed.
Well this excellent oven sheet has certainly kept the bottom of my oven looking like new and seldom do I have to scrub the spillages of it. It really has saved me a lot of hard work as we all know how hard it can be to clean our ovens out. This really is an excellent invention indeed and one I am very pleased with.
My Overall Opinion:
I really could not live without this oven sheet now. It has made my life a lot easier cleaning wise. I hate cleaning my oven out. It is my worst chore and one I dread doing. Well this sheet when fitted, will certainly catch nearly every crumb and spillage going. It really will make cleaning out your oven much easier. It really is a great oven liner that is easy to remove and clean.
I certainly would highly recommend this oven liner to everyone. If you do not use one already, I certainly would encourage you to do so. It really will save the bottom of your oven from getting messy, keep it like new and also will save you a lot of time and hard work cleaning it. This is one of the best buys I have made in the last year and one I will be sticking with.
£10 does sound a lot for an oven sheet, but I promise you. It will be a product that you will always stick with after trying it out. I am really very pleased with it and I am quite amazed at how easy it is to clean also. This oven liner gets a full 5/5 from me. Well-done Betterware for introducing me to this product. I won't ever live without this type of oven liner now and I am sure I will get another year out of it also, as it's been very durable indeed! A great product from Betterware!
A few years ago my old oven I had then, broke down, so I called out a repair man and was told it was the element that had gone in it. Well the repair man also told me never to line the bottom of my oven with foil as a lot of foils state on them that they are only suitable for food wrapping etc and are not safe in our ovens. Well I was quite shocked at this and have noticed since that some foils do state that they are not suitable for oven use. I tried to find out more information online about this, but there's nothing really. I guess maybe baking foil is slightly expensive and thicker so maybe this is better and safer than the thinner wrapping foils. Well anyway, I will stick with this oven liner and just use baking foil now in my oven, but please check the foil boxes out before using it in your oven as a liner. Further information would be welcome also about this.
You can apparently buy cheaper and similar oven liners at various Supermarkets now. I have not bought any of these to compare them to this Betterware one though, but if I do I will update this review for comparison.
