--Radisson SAS Hotel (Birmingham)--
Just before christmas my sister and i decided to do some shopping in Birmingham and this is where we stayed.
We picked this hotel as we have both stayed in other radissons and found them to be really good.
I loved the way the building looked -it is a glass structure and really pretty to look at.Its pretty big and has an impressive 39 levels!!.It is located near the Bullring shopping complex which is another reason i picked it-close to the shops.
It also has a spa and sauna which i think is a must have for any hotel!.It is quite small though so i would recommend trying to use it during the day when it is quieter.
I dont think that the food from room service is that great but saying that i like plain foods and would much rather have chips or something like that instead of other stuff. I also think that the service tray charge for room service is a little on the steep side.
Staff are happy to help the people who tidy the rooms do a great job.
This is a great hotel and i would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
To be honest i had never shopped in here until recently feeling that it was rather expensive but i became a member of foodonthego last year and one of the rewards is topshop vouchers so i decided to treat myself.
Things i like about Topshop
One of the things i really like about them is that they have a decent range of clothes for taller people. Its great being able to get trousers that i can wear with heels and not have inches of bare white skin showing at the ankles. A lot of the clothes they sell are quite "unique" . You are less likely to find someone else wearing the same clothes then say if you had bought it from primark. The staff are quite friendly and helpful. Recently when i couldn't get a pair of shoes in my size the ordered them in for me.
Things i don't
Prices-I think that £22 for a top is quite expensive and i don't think i would bother if i didn't have vouchers. My local topshop is tiny so they don't always have the full range or all the sizes availble that other topshops have.
I think that this is a good shop if you want to treat yourself but i wouldn't use it for everyday shopping due to the prices.
As the name suggests everything in this shop costs £1.
They tend to have quite a big selection of items such as books, dvds and other products such as soap, shampoo etc. Recent "bargains" have included 4 cans of juice for £1 or a 6 pack of snack a jacks.Okay so they were only in selected flavours but since they were the ones i liked this was fine.
All the shops get different things,so what you find in one poundland you might not find in another.
Not all products are cheapest here. One example being palmolive bodywash is £1 in here but 4 for £3 in Asda at the moment.
The staff never seem that cheerful, i know that its a budget shop but they could still have better customer service.
In my local there is always really long queues and only 2/3 tills on.
A good shop for certain items such as books but make sure the item you want isnt cheaper elsewhere. Also i think the customer service could be better.
--The secret shoppers revenge--
I picked up this book because i had read other books by the same author plus it only cost £1!!!
This book like many others i tend to read has several main characters.
Emily- A single mum who doesn't know how to stand up for herself and i would say is a bit of a doormat.
Sandie-Seems content with her life until she is wrongly accused of stealing.(happens very early on in the book)
Grazia-Very rich until her famous husband dies.
The book doesn't really focus on the mystery shopping but more how the characters change throughout the book.
I really enjoyed this book. I have to say though that i have never heard of mystery shoppers getting several thousand pounds worth of equipment, perhaps I'm signed up to the wrong companies!!.I would describe this as being the perfect book to read on holiday. A great chick flick that is easy to read and enjoyable. I don't often read books twice but i wouldn't mind with this one
Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts - Lucy Dillon
This isn't a book i would have bought but since i got it for Christmas i decided to give it a try.
At the beginning of the book Rachels aunt Dot has just died and she has inherited a house and dog kennels.
One of the things i liked about this book is that it goes between different characters.
Rachel- The main character . She has just split up from a long term boyfriend (he was married) and given up her job in London. I didn't like her at first because she seemed quite selfish but a softer side emerges and you begin to like her more.
Natalie and Zoe are the other main characters. I feel really sorry for both these characters .
The characters form a friendship through the dogs.
This book turned out to be a lot better than expected and i would recommend it as an easy to read chick flick. I didn't like the names of the dogs as i felt some of them were to similar to each other and i got confused as to what dog belonged to whom.
i came across this website when i had some paypal funds to spend and i wanted to get some natural soaps.
This site sells a wide range of products including bath blasters, cocoa melts, handmade soaps and hair care products. It is very easy to navigate the website and all the links to the different sections are down the left hand side of the main page-just click on the one you want for example bath bombs and it will take you to all of them. There is also a search function so if you know the name of a product you can key it in and it will take you straight to it.
This is quite cheap and product prices start at around 1.19 and i think the most expensive is the gift sets which are 10.(for some strange reason amazon charge less for some of their products than going on the site direct.)
The products arrive very quick and are nicely packaged.Delivery is very cheap.
I havent tried alot of their products yet but i will say what i think of the ones i have tried.
Soaps-i have been really impressed with all the soaps i have tried(6/7 different ones). They have all smelled really nice
Bath blasters-again i have really liked all the ones that i have ordered.
>>>>The Sims 2: Nightlife Add-On (PC) <<<<
I am a massive sims fan, so much so that i have every sims game ever out .So when this came out it was a must have for my collection.
As far as i can remember this was the first expansion pack to come out for the sims 2 and one of the main additions is that the sims can go downtown after dark .i have to say that this is something i don't bother with a lot because it can slow down your pc to do so. When they go out on the town they can go to a restaurant,a bowling alley or night club.
Like all expansion and add on packs the sims have more objects to interact with. In this one you get more than 125 new objects and these include a bowling alley,a dance sphere,dj booth and karaoke booth-night life objects. This was the main reason i bought the expansion pack.
Another thing i liked about this pack is that sims can buy their own car. They have to build a driveway first though and it isn't very clear in the instructions how to do this.
This is not the best expansion pack but it is a must have for sims fans as it has some nice extra items plus they get their own car.
>>Sabrina, the Teenage Witch: Ben There Done That - Joseph Locke <<
I used to love watching this when i was younger so when a member wanted to swap on readitswapit and i saw they had Sabrina the teenage witch books i decided to see if i liked the books as much.
Sabrina the teenage witch was a tv series that ran in the 90's and all together there were 8 seasons. I don't know if the books were based on the tv series or vice versa but my copy of the book has the same people from the tv series on it.
The book is set quite early on (season 1-2 ) as Sabrinas best friend is Jenny. In the book there has just been a house party at which Sabrinas Aunt Hilda has had too much magical mead to drink. This isn't to much of a deal until we discover that the hiccups that the mead has caused are having consequences. Sabrinas history books disappeared and in their place Benjamin Franklin has appeared. Can the hiccups be cured or will American history be changed forever?
I really enjoyed reading this book even if it was just a short book. Its a typical Sabrina story but that's what makes it so good. I think due to the fact i have seen every single episode i could picture the characters and imagine how they would sound etc. I still think this would be enjoyable even if you haven't watched any of the show.
>>The Sims 2: University Add-On <<
I am a big fan of the sims and i think that i have every single game that has ever came out. This was the first expansion pack to come out for the sims 2.
The first thing to mention is that you must have the sims 2 installed in order to play this game. I would also recommend having a system cleanup first so that the game will run more smoothly. The sims does take up quite a lot of space so if you are interested in purchasing it remember to check your computer specs first to make sure your computer can handle it.
What is the sims?
The sims is a computer game in which you are kind of like god. You control everything from how your sims look to what sort of personalities they will have and where they live.I think it is one of the biggest selling games ever but i am not sure about this.
Whats in the pack?
The main feature of this is that you get an extra life stage. In the normal sims they go from teenager to adult but in this they can become a young adult before becoming a normal adult.
This also contains 125+ items. This was my main reason for getting it because it contained extra items such as a drum kit....
There are 3 universities to choose from-one for each neighbourhood. If they get a degree this opens up more job choices which include Artist and Biologist.
I like how this pack offers new lifetime goals and rewards from the original.
This is a great game and a must have for any sims fan. Since it has been out for awhile now it can be picked up quite cheap.
****__Wedding Season - Katie Fforde __****
This is another of these authors i like to read when i am looking for something light,so when i saw this in Waterstones for £3.99 i had to buy it!!!
This is Katie fforde's 14th novel. She is a Sunday Times top ten bestseller and all her books tend to be quite light reads.
This book is about three woman who become good friends through working with each other. They seem to have very different personalities but have one thing in common - love doesn't seem to feature in any of their lives.
Sarah- a complete workaholic(she is a wedding planner). She had one bad experience with a guy when she was younger and has stayed clear of any relationships ever since. Can she loosen up a bit and find love?
Elsa-an accomplished dress designer who is very shy
Bron-has a boyfriend who doesn't appreciate her and is in a hairdressing job she hates. Will she work up the courage to leave her boyfriend and job? Is there anyone else out there for her?
To be honest the plot isn't that original but it is a very easy book to read. Its light and fun, perfect for when you don't want to read something that has to much plot etc.
****Watermelon - Marian Keyes****
I really like Marian Keyes so when i came across this book for £1 from the local charity shop i had to buy it. She has written other great books such as Lucy Sullivan is getting married and anybody out there? Which are 2 of my favourite books.
This book although not a series has the same family in it as several of her other books. I have read them all and would say that it defiantly doesn't matter which one you read first. In this book the main character is Claire.
At the very beginning of the book Claire's husband James leaves her for another woman called Denise. Not really a shocker these days but the fact that he does it about 2 hours after she has given birth screams ar*****e at me. Not knowing what to do she decides to go home to her family in Ireland hoping that James will come to his senses and come back to her..The thing is though will she want him back or will James be in for a surprise..
This is one of these books that is really easy to read. Okay so it is from Claires point of view so we don't get to hear James side of the story but who cares? This is a chick flick novel so it is really light reading- i would say that it is perfect for a beach novel. I really liked it and even though it is not my favourite book of hers i would still recommend it to other people.
>>The sims 2<<
I used to be a massive sims fan when i was younger and quite literally hours and hours off my life would disappear on what was "just a little go". Nowadays i don't play it as much but decided to give it a go to see if i still liked it. Sims 3 is out soon and i was a little unsure as whether i was going to buy it or not.
What is it?
I cant imagine there is many people out there that are reading this that don't know what the sims is,i don't know for sure but surely this is one of the best known pc games ever?.The game is basically a "real life" game. You can make a family, build a house , get a job...after this game came out they also brought out expansion kits so your sims had more options such as being able to go to university, open their own business .There is a lot of different things to do and i think this is what makes the game so addictive.
Before you even install the game it is recommended that you clean up your computer by disk defragmenter and clean up. I would recommend this as it does make a lot of difference especially if you are like me and don't take care of your computer as well as you should!. Installing the game is straightforward -if you have a later version of the game you only need to install 1 disk and it seems to install quicker
One of the first things i like to do in the game is build a house. I don't know why it is but i can spend hours on this part and love it as much as the main game itself .After building the house(open plan indoor pool :)) i then go on to create a family. At this stage you can make them male or female, what age group you want them to be and how they look, what clothes they wear and type of sim they are going to be.
I would always recommend having at least 1 tidy, energetic sim that way one of them will always tidy up!!
So now you have at least 1 sim and are ready to play, what next? It depends on what your sim wants from life and this comes under aspirations, wants and fears. Aspirations affect what sims want and are afraid off. When the sim is little they all just want to grow up but after that their aspiration can be romance, family, knowledge, popularity or fortune based. When a sim gets something they want you get points and with these points you can pick rewards from a list. When you get a reward all sims can use it. I think the easiest way to get these rewards is by having a sim that likes money as they tend to have easy wants like buy a tv. If you want to be mean you can make your sims suffer a breakdown or if you are really fed up of a certain sim you can always kill them.
Chances are at some point your sim will need to get a job(unless your happy to use codes).Getting a job is the easy part and this can be done by picking up a paper or if they have a computer they can do it that way(wouldn't it be great if you could do that). When picking a job you can choose from 10 career areas. Once they have a job getting them to go to it can be harder ,things such as their energy, bladder, hygiene and comfort will effect whether they go or not. An unhappy sim doesn't think about the fact if they don't go to work there will be no more food in the fridge and therefore they will be even more unhappy tomorrow, they just grump and stamp their feet.
Sims that go to work can get a promotion if they do well. To help them you have to build up their skill points in the following areas-cooking,mechanical,charisma,body,logic,creativity and cleaning. Different jobs need different skills and they get these by interacting with objects(working out will get them body skills)
Sims can interact with each other and develop relationships. If sims get close they can have children or if they get close with a neighbour the other sim can either move in or your sim can move out.
This game has so much to offer that i would recommend it to everyone. With the expansion and add on packs it just gets better and better. (Unfortunately your computer will get slower and slower). Its so much better than the original sims and it will be interesting to see if the sims 3 is even better,if its even possible as i love this game.
>>Baby Proof by Emily Griffin <<
Recently i have been trying to cut back on the amount i have been spending so was quite happy to discover that pound land stocked books. I decided that £1 isn't a bad price for a book and if i didn't like it i wouldn't be wasting too much money.
On first inspection i thought that the book was going to be about a character wanting babies or something like that and was quite surprised to discover it was about the opposite.
The two main characters are seemingly happily married and they both don't want children until a close friend of theirs has a baby. Interestingly instead of making it the female (Claudia Parr) the character that wants children(or at least one) they make it her husband Ben.
The author puts across both sides of the argument quite well and i mostly sympathize with Claudia. The way she looks at things is that she has had the same feelings all along and it is Ben that has changed. Having a female lead that feels the way that Claudia does you would think that readers would hate her but this is not the case.I cant really say much without giving the plot away but i thought the ending was quite nice and suited the book.
Price wise i think it was completely worth the money and i would recommend that if you see it in your local pound shop to buy it as it is cheap but most importantly one of these books that is easy to read and hard to put down.
>>>The Private Lives of Pippa Lee - Rebecca Miller <<<
This is not a book i would normally buy but there was an offer on bookpeople? Where you could get 5 Richard and Judy books for £10.There was only 4 i wanted so there being no other books i wanted i got this.
Since this was an author i had never heard off i was a little unsure what to expect.
As you can tell by the title the book talks about the life of Pippa Lee.It actually starts off when she is older and then goes back in time. I found the beginning of the book quite hard to get into but i am glad i stuck with it as it gets better when it starts talking about Pippa when she was younger(the things she got up to!!:())
The book is split into different parts. The first is the present day and she and her husband have just moved into a retirement village(she is 50,he is 80)This bit of the book is boring.
The 2nd part of the book is where the excitement happens. The best part of the book in my opinion.
It then goes back to the present day. Without spoiling this book i have to say the ending was boring and rather predictable.
I paid £2 for this and i am glad i did not pay anymore. It was okay, not great and i wont be keeping it to re-read.
>>Skechers 21778 Soulmates<<
Quite recently qype offered a £50 amazon voucher if you wrote 50-100 reviews on places you had visited.Once i received the voucher i very quickly decided i was going to buy a pair of shoes and these were what i ended up picking.
Sketchers are a high quality shoe brand, they are often not the cheapest but they make up for it in style and how comfortable they are.
These are described as being "cute girls shoes" and they come in 3 different styles.1*black/white-these have a check pattern on the side and a rose and heart on them.
2*choclate/tan-my least favourite pair these ones have an owl on the side and flowers at the toes.
3*grey/blue-These have buttons dotted over them and i think they are lovely!!!
These may come in adult sizes (sizes 3-8) but they are for the kid in you!!They have a padded insole that makes them really comfortable and a velcro strap.I couldnt beleive how good they felt when i first got them,no need to wear them in.
>>Price/where to buy<<
These seem to range in price from £22.50 - £44.99.somehow the bigger sizes are cheaper? As well as seeing them on amazon i they were in schuh.
Worth every penny!!!
