My best friend and I always go here for a spa weekend on birthdays etc, or as often as we can. it is a newly refurbished 4 star hotel. The rooms are ranging form standard to a suite which is basically a bit better than standard but with a sofa. They have sky in the rooms. The restaurant caters for all dietary needs, mine being vegan and they really do go all out to feed you and make a menu of meals they can cook, nothing seems to be too much for them. The spa is the best bit, we have about 4 treatments a day while we are there and sort of take over the spa, they have 4 therapists who ate all really nice, varying degrees of qualifications. it is not cheap averaging £40 per massage but the E- Stone therapy is a must as it really blows your mind. They use E'spa products and have gentle music with dimmed lights and often I have fallen asleep during a treatment. They have a gym (not that I am that healthy) a medium size pool and jacuzzi, which is not always working and a bit cold, and a steam room, it is unisex so you can be in there with 4 guys at times. I really recommend this for relaxing few days even if the stay is not cheap you will feel it is totally worth it.
I visited Athuruga in the Maldives last month, I went on my own and found it to be not fir singles, it is really a honeymoon island but you do not see any canoodling on the beach or anything like that, the food is ok, I am vegan and had emailed before regarding this but was not catered for at all, the entertainment is like a bad day at Butlins, there really is nothing to do, I know that is how it is supposed to be but it really is that quiet. there are a lot of water activities but not a lot else, 1 shop, 1 restaurant, the island is all inclusive, the rooms are nice and right on the beach, there are a lot of Italians that visit this island and you feel very much in the minority of you are English. The weather is not so good in our summer I.e. June 15th when I went. it is a 40 minute sea plane journey and a very long 12 hour flight, I flew with Monarch who are absolutely rubbish, I flew back early and flew with Sri Lankan Airlines who cannot do enough for you and would advise anyone to try to get the connecting flight via Colombo, Sri Lanka, it is the same price as a direct to Male but well worth the delay as Sri Lankan Air have videos on every seat and nothing is too much for them. All in all nice island if you do not want to watch tv or read a newspaper, but not for singles.
I went to Egypt at the end of April 2003 as a break to get away for a week, I found a really good deal to a hotel called Three Corners Rhiana in El Gouna on the Red Sea, it was a 5 star all inclusive by the beach. It is a 5 hour flight mine was with Monarch (bad start), I booked on the phone after looking in www.viewdata.net which shows all accommodation offered and what travel companied offer it so that can be a help, well I booked it and got to Cairo airport after a 3 hour delay and was told we had to stay in a hotel overnight as they have to travel to resort in convoy due to bandits (I thought they were joking but they were not) and we had missed the last couch by about 5 minutes, so we booked in a hotel in Cairo and left there at lunch the next day, it was a 4 hour journey to the resort. The resort was nice and secluded, a nice pool which you can quite happily stay by and not need the beach, the beach is about 20 yards form the pool and all the rooms and is not at all nice, no-one I saw ever went in the sea just lay on sun lounges round it. The rooms are all with single beds and very nice. they say you are not allowed to be topless due to their religion but I did as quite a few others did. It is quite a family orientated hotel so lots of crying kids around, not that I mind but I went away to get away form that. The food is ok, I am vegan so there was not a lot of choice and they do not really understand any English, the staff that come ion contact with the public have a reasonable understanding but kitchen staff and room boys do not understand so if you have a specific dietary need then you will be in for a challenge. Be VERY aware of the staff trying to con you, one of them offered to get me some spices and brought back a small bag and asked for nearly £50, I went in to hurghada the day before and bought twice that amount for £6. They seem so genuine and I did feel sympathetic due to the fa
ct they earn about £40 a month. Ask in all nice and family like very hot. My holiday cost £342 including gold insurance which was needed as my bag was stolen between Cairo and Gatwick
