This was the first catalogue I ran as an agent, and I stayed with it for many years, more out of habit than anything else. I finally gave it up when I realised that others, such as Freeman's, had what I thought was a much more interesting product range and far better customer service. All the goods at Kays were. well, just OK. I never hjad any major disasters with them, but I never got anything and thought 'wow' either. Customer service was patchy, to put it positively. There were some nice people working there who were helpful, but one department never seemed to know what another was doing and they 'lost' anything sent to them, whether letters or returned parcels, with alarming regularity. They were fine when it cam to paying commission (except when they lost the records!!); and clothes were generally in stock and of reasonable quality (household stuff seemed to be out of stock a lot though and they often never fulfilled an order) My overall impression is that this company has been going forever and now feels it really doesn't have to try too hard. I doubt I shall be bothering with them again unless there's evidence of more exciting ranges.
That is, I wish I knew whether their stuff was any good or not, but after the total fiasco I had tring to order from this company I really don't think I'll be trying to find out any time soon. In a nutshell I placed an order because I wa attracted by an initial discount and the offer of a free bedspread. I ordered some shoes, two blouses and a jacket. I waited and waited and nothing happened. There was no phone number on the leaflets they sent me, so I didn't contact them. Later, I saw they'd taken the money for everything from my credit card. I wrote and wrote and they ignored it for months; then finally wrote and said the stuff had been delivered and left on my doorstep. Well as I live in the middle of a city in a terraced house which opens onto the street it doesn't exactly take a genius to work out what happened to my stuff! I wrote and explained this; after yet more weeks they wrote back and said as they had delivered the stuff they'd fulfilled their part of the contract and the billing stood. It took the intervention of my credit card company to get my money back.
In desperate need of a new webmail account, I opted for Freeze mainly because it was one of very few where I didn't need to have an essay, rather that a name, before the @ Hotmail, yahoo etc were out because I just couldn't sign up with anything vaguely resembling my name. At Freeze however I, and a friend, both managed to get exactly the username we wanted. That was several weeks ago and the service has been variable. i've had enough hiccups to discover that the customer service leaves a great deal to be desired, so will probably, in the longer term go elsewhere. Other problems have included a few times when the site was down but no notices were posted about when it might return. Other than that, the site is easily navigable, there's 3MB of inbox space and all the usual facilities.
Ok - I'm getting desperate. All I want is a reliable ISP. I mean utterly, absolutely, totally reliable. I've got one now - Lineone has been ace, but we get kicked off next month so I need a replacement. I've read just about every review here and none of them seem to fit the bill. I'm not too worried about cost (within reason!); I just need to know what it's going to be so I need 24/7 'free' access. I'm a heavy user so somewhere like Breathe that kicks its heavy users off is no good. My ISP-to-be needs to have an excellent newsgroup service and not lose my emails - as well, of course, as actually connecting me to the net Does all this seem like too much to ask? It seems so. Ah, and I don't have a BT line to convert from. After a totally miserable experience with BTinternet I have removed all BT from my life! Why on earth there doesn't seem to be one quality provider out there is utterly beyond me. Any suggestions/directions to positive reviews gratefully received!
I am absolutely appalled and disgusted at the way Lycos, which has just swallowed up whowhere.com has just arbitarily axed a whole raft of email accounts. I had my england.com account as my main email account for two years; and have just found out that it's being scapped with just two weeks' notice! Not explanation, no nothing. They didn't even make sure we account holders found out about this properly. An email was sent, but there was an error so when you opened it there was nothing there. (I have friends who were also with these people so I know it wasn't just me). In fact, we only found out because someone I'd recommended the company to tried to set up an account and got a message that the service was to be discontinued. Now, if you actually hold an account with a company you don't tend to go to the 'register here' page - the only page they bothered to put this information on. This is going to cause me no end of hassle in informing everyone. I really don't see why they couldn't at the very least have given us more notice. I understand this company is now something to do with Lycos. Well after this I, for one, will definitely be boycotting them. Any organisation which cares so little about my custom does not deserve it.
