I have used ipod classic's since apple started using the scroll wheel on their models, this is the last model i purchased but i will be picking up a 160GB model soon as i love them so much.
If your a music fan than this gadget is definitely for you. Operation is simple, simply put the songs onto your PC through itunes and sync your ipod..done! You can choose from a mass of media formats aswell as the ipod classic plays just about every music format available, from MP3 to WAV or even apples own AAC.
With such a large amount of storage for your music, why bother with compressing at all and simply upload the songs in full CD quality. If you worry about space on your computer you can simply delete the files once uploaded to your ipod and leave the names on your itunes, this way you free up your computer space but syncing your ipod does not delete the track. Alternatively you can place itunes on a separate HDD or even an external drive.
The ipod classic is also capable of playing videos, however with the screen being as small as it is i dont use it often. Itunes will convert most saved videos into a format your ipod will play for you by right clicking the file and selecting "create ipod friendly version".
You can also select photo albums to sync to the ipod to show to your friends on the move and there are even a few basic games installed. None of these games are great but they can certainly pass a few hours should you be without a magazine or games device on the move.
The most important thing for such a gadget is the sound, and i can delightfully say that the sound is great. How apple how crammed such amazing preamps into such a small space is beyond me and it will even power the larger headphone drivers however this is at a slight cost to your battery life.
This being said battery life is amazing! I use my ipod around 3 hours a day and it lasts for just over a week with audio playback and can last almost all day using video playback.
The ipod itself looks and feels like a very expensive product, which you would hope so because its not exactly cheap. The scroll wheel is sensitive but takes some getting used to and the screen is crisp.
My only negative point about this gadget is that being hard drive based it should theoretically be fragile, however i have dropped this device many times many times and there has been no playback interruption or damage but i would not rely on it being a robust device.
I have used this microphone in all of my recordings since i purchased the microphone. For a microphone below £200 i could not expect any more from this product. The signal is very clean although the signal to noise ratio could be a little better.
The microphone itself comes in a special protective carry case which seems robust enough to safely store the microphone without damage however i don't believe the case would survive were it to be given flight case like duties, none the less though the case is of good quality. There is a small adapter for your microphone stand to make sure that the microphone can be mounted on most mic stands.
There is also an included shock mount which works very well in insulting the microphone but it can be a bit flimsy and there are better shock mounts out there, however for a microphone of this level the investment is not worth it.
The microphone does have a very colored and unique sound so its not a lot of use for much other than vocals however it also sits nicely with acoustic guitar. That being said the vocal sound, at least for my voice is incredible and the results require very little EQ in post production.
For a vocal microphone at a budget price look no further than this microphone as i don't believe i have found a better sound for less than £400. I edit this post later and link some examples when i have completed some samples.
One more thing i would like to add, is that this microphone can not handle particularly high SPL levels despite what SE would have you believe.
First of all, the movie is a very fitting end to what was a great, but short lived, TV series. The blu ray itself is packed full of special features but as far as i can see there is no difference to the standard edition version and instead you are paying some extra cash for a special cardboard sleeve and different box design. Some of these blu ray batches come with a chance to win an around the world tour attached to the sleeve but i must stress that this is only SOME of these batches. You can identify these batches by the universal 100 VIP sticker on the from of the cover, which is a pain to get off without damaging your special cardboard sleeve that you've payed for.
Inside the box you will find only the blu ray disk and the same graphics design found on the the box as a cardboard print which seems a bit pointless.
On the disk itself you will find a heap of special features, out takes, deleted scenes and more, however all of these are also on the standard edition disk.
To conclude then, you are paying extra money for what is essentially a graphic version of the stand edition cover. Why i did this i do not know, as i would much prefer a real picture of the beautiful Summer Glau as my cover.
A great movie but i recommend that you don't bother with this limited edition version, grab yourself a standard edition for less money.
The SM57 is a dynamic mic design and is the sister mic to the SM58, originally intended for use as a instrument mic in live environments, the microphone has also created itself a fabled reputation in the recording studio for applications that require high SPL levels (eg, drum recording and guitar cabinets).
The product description above does not lie, the microphones reliability is legendary. I have used a set of 6 Sm57's over the course of five years and none have ever put a foot wrong, and all have been subjected to abuse for artists on stage as well as drummers in the studio. They can certainly sustain impact damage without any trouble! This makes these mics a safe bet, especially for the drums. Expensive small condenser microphones on drum kits can often be quickly destroyed by drummers accidentally hitting the microphones while playing, but with this microphones you do not need to worry.
Testing this microphones with loud signal sources has always proved positive however Shure states these microphones as good for "woodwinds" where i have found this is certainly not the case as i have to run my preamps very hot to make this work resulting in a poorer signal to noise ratio. The microphones is still acceptable for such applications however there are many better models out there if this your intention.
The box contains the SM57 microphone, a Shure sticker, a handy carrying pouch and an instructions leaflet. There is also information about the product warranty which requires registration as is by default one year.
For multipurpose instrument recording applications i dont believe there is a better microphones out there, and at this price you can afford to buy a number of these models for stereo recording, drum recording or any loud sound applications.
Released in 2009, Infamous played on the recent growth of public fascination around super hero's. Rather than follow the same basic formula for a super hero game, Sucker Punch allowed the player to follow either light or dark paths...or even both should the player choose.
The game is of open world design and you unlock islands in a similar fashion to the Grand Theft Auto games, by completing certain sections of the game. You can follow the main story line but there are also lots of side missions/ bonus objectives and items to gather all over the city. You can not wander inside buildings however and even your storyline cinematics are all based outside..what if it rains cole? you would be fried like KFC chicken!
The story lines of both paths interlink very well and give the game a great value price tag because you will want to play through the game at least twice to see all the game has to offer, its two games for the price of one!
You play as a once ordinary civilian named Cole who is given electrical super powers through a device called the "raysphere". Aided by your buddy Zeek, you seek to discover who did this to you and why, but your choices in the game will determine your quests outcome.
You gather electrical power by drawing it out of electrical devices, generators etc so don't think that your powers will last forever. As you progress however you can unlock special abilities and upgrade your current ones allowing you to keep shooting for a lot longer.
One frequent complaint made by many who play the game is the distinct lack of voice acting, your character does not say much through the hole game and instead usually just gets shouted at by his friends and enemies.
The graphics are amazing, and even today they stack up very well. The sequel does show many improvements but there will be no complaints about the graphical quality of this game..although a little colour from time to time would be nice, no matter how dark things get.
With the game being released more than three years ago to date their is a platinum version you can purchase if you prefer instead however there is no additional content i am aware of in this version. If you plan on playing Infamous 2 then you simply can not miss playing this game if you hope to understand what is going on in the sequel.
A MUST PLAY
To own one of these is to own a piece of gaming history. This model started a portable gaming craze that lead to the advanced handhelds we see today such as the playstation vita.
A very basic device by today's standards but powerful at the time of release, the Gameboy uses cartridges to run games. There is no back light on the display however the brightness can be adjusted via a scroll wheel on the side. There is a similar scroll wheel to control volume from the small built in speaker or headphone out however due to the devices dated nature the sound is only 8-bit audio.
The device uses four AA size batteries but can last for many hours before replacing. The batteries also add a considerable amount of weight to the unit so it is quite heavy.
I have not used my game boy for many years but it is still functional and brought me many hours of fun. Game boy colour games also play in the unit however they are, like the screen, in black and white.
What can i say, this box set features the original three hit films as well as the newer star wars trilogy set beforehand. Watching these films in high definition is great, the remaster really does credit to the film not forgetting the improved audio as well as the improved visuals. There is also a lot of special features on each disk and i have noticed a lot of footage included in the films themselves that has not been included in previous star wars releases. There is also a nice inlay called 'guide to the galaxy' which features some nice art work and star wars info.
There is a total of 9 disks which contain the films, special features, a documentary and additional content based around the star wars universe.
The last thing i will say is the package is well presented in a beautiful little box, a must buy essential for a star wars fan!
I have 4 of these drives, 2 sets in raid 1 in my network drive. I have not ran synthetic bench marks but for a hard disk this has proven but stupidly fast and reliable. However dont believe for a second the advertised 600mbps, im sure using raid 0 or 5 these speeds could be achieved but i believe the data rate seems closer to the 150mbps mark..which is stupidly fast for a hard drive. If you require faster data speeds with a single drive then you had best consider the solid state (ssd) option. I would highly reccomend this drive as a storage drive in a pc or a nas.
The drive is a little noisy but not so loud as to be invasive except for where large file transfers are performed of over 4gb or so.
Unfortunately my temp monitors in my nas are not functional but given the solid reliability of the drives i dont see temperatures being an issue.
This tv is pretty average but given the price tag what can you expect. The colours are pretty good but the motion is rather poor, something i did not expect from a 100hz tv. There is plenty in the way of viewing angle, it does not seems to make much of a difference at any viewing angle or distance. The picture quality is a little grainy but reasonable. The speakers that are buit in are fairly good for a flat screen however they distort at high levels so i only use them for tv use, i would reccomend buying an external sound system for movies. They state a 40% energy savings however this is only based against the power hungry plasma tv's. I have not tested much of the smart functions but they seem ok.
First off, this motherboard has worked great for me most of the time and with general users this board will be more than acceptable however, using sli on this board is not great as the second slot limits the card bandwidth to 8 instead of 16x. The maximum gpu you can use in sli is therefore a 560ti before the board will limit you card. This i could let go however as that is more than enough power to play modern games. What i cant let go however is this board is pathetic if you intend to you ssd's. I have tried every port available on the board and i can not reach anywhere near the max read speed if my vertex 4 on this board where as i can without issue in a standard msi board. For what is suppost to a top end board this is poor but a good board for general use if your avoiding ssd drives.
I had the original ipad, had use of an ipad 2 and now finally have one of these. In terms of functionality i have not found much that this ipad can do that my original could not. This is with the exception of a few games on the app store that require the faster processing for better graphics. This being said all of the features the original ipad had have simply been improved for this model. The camera is now great quality, infact the front facing camera is pretty great aswell. The device boots faster and feels that bit more responsive in use. How apple have managed to achieve the battery life they have is beyond me as the ipad 3 will run all day with intensive application use and about 6 hours of 3D game use.
To conclude then, this 3rd edition of the ipad does not really feature anything the ipad 2 did not but everything from screen quality to processing speed has been improved.
I bought this product to use as a boot drive for windows 7 and i very much regret doing so. The drive will only function in AHCI mode and because i had my computer set up in IDE mode it meant reinstalling all of windows just to update the drive and then installing windows again on the ssd. This is because you need to be inside windows just to update the drive but you cant update the drive while running w7 on the ssd. In short you need two desktop computers running windows 7 to upgrade the firmware of this SSD smoothly. Once i had everything up and running the drive ran only at 250mb read and 250mb write in a sata 3 port... Way behind the advertised 500mb+ speed.
After many hopeless calls to OCZ they gave me a new one, this did not fix the issue but did increase my speeds to 360mb read, however write speeds remained the same.
As a result my drive is running at sata 2 speeds... Slower than cheaper ssd drives. Avoid this ssd and buy an alternative such as a cruitial m4 instead.
The stand for this camera is extremely intuitive. You can clip the camera onto a monitor, rest the camera on a larger or fatter monitor with the included rubber foot on the bottom of the stand or use the stand quite literally as a stand and seat the camera anywhere the usb lead can reach.
The usb lead is very long so placement is definetly not an issue and the camera is so small is is totally unobtrusive and sometimes i forget its even there.
There is a small green led light the is activated when the camera is on, so you know when you are being watched and their is also a reasonable built in microphone. The microphone is by no means good but it certainly does the job for applications such as skype and msn.
Finally my last point about this product is that Logitech state this is a High definition camera. The camera is 720p which is the very bottom of the HD range but this is more than enough for web meetings and skype etc and the picture is very good. It also has included software which will track your face, this works surprisingly well.
There really is not all that much to say about this product, it works very well and is capable of charging and holding two playstation controllers at the same time from one USB port. From what i can tell there is no increase to charging times and a small LED will let you know when your controllers are either charging or finished charging. The LED colors depend on the date the product was made, mine are green and red however my friends shows green and blue. Blue for charging and green for completely charged. The product also serves and a handy little stand for your controllers and allows you to simply dock them at the end of a gaming session for convenience. This product works with the official controllers but I am unsure if an unofficial model will fit as the controllers fit very tightly onto the unit.
You must have your Playstation three turned on and the unit connected to one of the USB ports in order for the controllers to charge. I have four controllers and charge two at a time using this charger and another third party charger which i also use to display them.
A great accessory for the Playstation gamer.
The playstation eye camera can be used as a stand alone unit or in conjunction with playstation move controllers to allow for motion capture for games. One feature that seems to be overlooked alot if the microphone in this unit is amazing! I do not use play station move often but i have found it to be the best option for motion games on the market. It is the most accurate and their is less input lag than the connect alternative. The camera itself is not such great quality, but its more than enough for any play station game. The camera can also recognize shapes and as a result you can play such great games as "eye of judgement", one of my favorite play station releases to date.
The usb lead is not very long so unless you have you console next to your television then it may be hard to position the camera where you need it.
The final point i shall make about this camera is there are two view modes, normal and wide view. You simply twist the lense to select your mode.
The camera is an official sony product so reliability is excellent and the product feels robust.
