Really nice Body Mist but a bit pricey

I received this body moisturizing mist as a Mother's day present this year from my teenage children along with some other Soap and Glory products. I really like this range of products for many reasons. The main one being the lovely fragrance.

This particular product comes in the usual 50's retro style packaging which adds to the attractiveness of the product but personally I think boxes can be a bit wasteful on this type of product. On the box it states 'SCENTED with a tempting blend of Bergamot, Peach, Strawberry, Jasmine, Mandarin and Musk'. Soap and Glory products tend to have quirky quotes on the packaging and on this one the Anonymous quote is 'Flirting is the subtle art of making a man feel satisfied with himself' and on the back of the box the instructions read 'Do your own flirty work: Spritz Girligo on all-over post shower for temptingly fragrant, softer, smoother, more supple skin.' The mist itself comes in a Cream pearlised bottle with a pump spray lid. On the front of the bottle the label is a Pink Girly design incorporating the Soap and Glory logo and product name. On the reverse side is a label listing the ingredients and the same instructions as printed on the box. It also states that once opened this product is good for 24 months.

Now, when I think of a mist I envisage something very fine. This product is of a milky colour and if sprayed at close range it lands on the body in a pool of milky liquid. However if you spray from a further distance, say about 12 inches it does land on the skin in more of a fine mist. However, if sprayed from a distance I do find that some of the mist and also some larger droplets do land on the floor. I have mainly wooden floors so this is very noticeable, indeed for the purpose of this review I have sprayed the mist and had to wipe the floor clean. Having said that the fragrance is absolutely gorgeous and lingers on the skin for a good length of time and you would not need to apply body spray as well. Although it is not too strong a fragrance it would probably overpower your normal perfume fragrance if worn together. From a moisturizing point of view the skin does feel hydrated and very soft and again this effect is long lasting. The mist is light weight, really easily absorbed and does not feel greasy or oily.

The cost of this is currently £6.38 in boots for a 250ml bottle and as I type it is currently included in a 3 for 2 offer.

Conclusion: This is a really nice Hydrating product with the typically attractive fragrance you expect from Soap and Glory however it does not come cheap so probably best to look out for those special offers.

Lovely body spray. Well worth the price

I first came across Soap and glory when my Daughter was given a set as a gift a few Christmases ago by a friend. She loved these products immediately and began to constantly rave about them. Knowing I was curious as to what the fuss was about she kindly allowed me to try them out (I was restricted to how much I was allowed to use though). Needless to say I liked what I tried, but, unfortunately I never got around to buying any myself. So, much to my appreciation, for Mothers Day this year I was given this body spray and a few other Soap and Glory products by my Daughter and Son.

The body spray comes in a 50's retro style box which I have now thrown away so I cannot go into a lot of detail about that. The bottle itself is of a slightly pearlized Brown plastic with a retro style label in keeping with the brand. Glam-A-Lot is described on the label as a 'soft and sexy fragrant body spray' The blurb on the reverse label states 'There are times when you need a little glam, and times you need to Glam-a-lot. We recommend deploying this during the latter.' 'Mist opportunity. It's Rich. Voluptuous. Sensual. It's got sex appeal (use it and ooze it)'

The spray deploys a fine mist to the skin and the fragrance is immediately apparent. It is quite a strong fragrance for a body spray but it's so nice it doesn't really matter. To me it initially has a slight floral smell but soon settles into a Musky aroma with a slight touch of vanilla developing later. This really is a nice body spray and the fragrance lasts for hours and hours. In fact, if I use this after showering in the early evening it can still be smelt the next morning. Amazing.

As I did not buy this myself I cannot confirm the actual price paid or where it was purchased. However Boots stock this range. Glam-A-Lot comes in a 250ml bottle and the normal price at boots is £6.38 according to their website but there is currently a 3 for 2 offer. This may seem quite expensive for a body spray but in my opinion it is worth every penny for such a long wearing spray. If it is something you would use but not on a daily basis then it is good for 24 months after opening.

        Conclusion:
I love this body spray. It smells absolutely lovely which always makes me feel good. It's long wearing and has a long shelf life if only used occasionally.

Good value, skin friendly hand wash

We use lots of liquid hand wash in our house, which we prefer to bar soap, and various bottles can be found in the toilet and kitchen. As we use a lot of hand wash I tend to buy whatever is on offer at the time. I have tried very cheap Bathroom, Downstairs products in the past but found that most do not clean the hands very well and/or do not smell very nice. So, although I try to get the best value I also try to keep to quality products.

The Imperial Leather Cotton Soft Hand Wash comes in a clear plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. The plastic bottle is made using recyclable packaging. On the front it states that it is a moisturising hand wash, which is why I went for this particular one at the time, as many hand washes leave my hands feeling very dry after using. The liquid contains Cotton Milk - Known for its skin soothing benefits and Oat Extract - famed for its natural moisturising properties and is hypoallergenic so is suitable for sensitive skin. The White liquid is of a creamy texture with a medium consistency. One pump is sufficient to work up enough lather to give the hands a good wash. The lather itself feels very soft and smooth. The fragrance is very fresh and lingers on the skin for quite a while after use. Hands do feel very fresh and soft and do not feel particularly dry at first but for me, after about 30 minutes my hands do start to feel slightly dry and taut but not in any way itchy or irritated.

The bottle is 300ml. I recently purchased this from Tesco for £1.00 and the normal price is £1.62.

          Conclusion:
This hand wash gives a clean fresh feel with a lasting fresh fragrance. It is kind to skin and is a pleasure to use but for me not quite moisturising enough. As it is often on offer it is also very good value for money.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A nice effect spoilt by a rubbish pot

I am not a fan of blusher for a daytime look as it generally looks slightly harsh on my pale skin so was looking for something a little bit more subtle to highlight my cheeks during the day. So I chose these face pearls in the hope that they would give the look I wanted.

When applied they do give a nice subtle Pinky glow to the cheeks which I like and this can be intensified by going over the area a few more times. I have found the effect to last throughout an 8 hour day at work.

The pearls are small blusher like pea size baubles generally pink but in three different shades ranging from a Creamy Pink to a deeper pink and they have a slightly pearlised sheen. To apply you simply sweep a brush, I just use a blusher brush, over the pearls and the sweep over the face. As this is a face illuminating product I assume it can be used all over the face but I have not tried this as I only use then to highlight the cheeks. This is the first face pearl product I have owned and I did find a lot of powder at the bottom of the tub but not sure if this was meant to be there.

The pearls come in a Black plastic tub with a screw lid. Inside there is a thick piece of sponge which is not meant to be an applicator it is there to keep the pearls secure and avoid damage as they only fill about a quarter of the Tub. The quality of the tub leaves a bit to be desired. Within a couple of weeks it had started to crack around the edge of the lid where the threads are, shortly afterwards bits started to break off around this area which meant the lid could only be placed on top but not secured. Then finally it broke into three pieces, so when I recently took this on holiday I had to secure the protective sponge in place with elastic bands. Not good.

On the label at the bottom of the pot it states that it contains 22g and this it is good for 24m after opening. I have had mine for about 4 months and to be honest although they are still giving the same results they are starting to take on a grubby look which is a bit off putting.

The normal price for Illuminating Face Pearls is £9.00 but can often be found in the brochure on offer at a reduced price or as part of a mix and match promotion. They can be purchased from a local representative with free delivery or via the Avon website where delivery charges do apply.

            Conclusion:
I like the effect this product gives so will probably buy again, if on offer, for that reason. However I am only giving 3 stars due to the disappointing bad quality of the packaging.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Good for achieving a range of looks.

If I wear eye shadow it is usually Neutral in colour so when I saw this palette in the Avon brochure I thought it would be ideal, giving a bit of variety. The palette comes in two options Neutral Tones or Smokey Eyes. I purchased both but so far have only used the Neutral Tones.

The eight eye shadows come in a sleek Black plastic compact with a clear panel in the lid through which you can see the colours. The compact has a good snap shut fastening and does not open randomly when searching through a makeup bag. Once open, there is a mirror on the inside of the lid which is ideal when on the go and there are two double ended sponge tipped applicators.

The colours vary from very light Beige through the spectrum to darker Browns and, with a bit of imagination, different effects can be achieved by using different shades together. Some are matt colours and some have a slight shimmer but are not glittery. The shadows are soft and easy to load onto an applicator or brush and apply evenly. They do feel very soft when applied and stay put for hours without creasing or bleeding. They do tend to produce rather a lot of excess dust when loading onto your applicator which then covers the other colours if not removed so I tend to gently blow this off which can be quite messy if not done in a suitable place. Unfortunately, although I have not used this very much some of the shadows have now started to break up in the compact and large chunks have fallen out.

As I mentioned this palette also comes in a Smoky Eyes option which contains colours such as Grey/Blue/Charcoal/Lilac/Purple as well as a light Beige and Brown.

The Normal price is £10.50 but I saw this in the Brochure recently at 2 for £12.00. As with all Avon products they are available to order through an Avon Representative free of delivery charges or from the Avon website where delivery charges of £3.50 (standard) or £5.50 (express) are charged.

            Conclusion:
This is a neat compact with a varied palette of easy to apply eye shadow in a range of colours/shades which are all usable even for quite conservative makeup wearers such as myself but disappointing in that some of the shadows have crumbled in the compact.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Overall a good moisturising body wash

In the past I've found Avon products to deliver mixed results, some good, some not so good and some really bad, so it was with great anticipation that found myself trying yet another Avon body product. The skin so soft range offers a wide range of body products including body washes, body moisturisers, hand lotions, bath and body oils etc. all with one thing in common. Moisturisation, to varying degrees but I assume with different fragrances. The signature silk option is said to boost your skin with intense moisturisation and elements of real silk. I chose Signature Silk Creamy Body Wash for no particular reason, it was just a random choice.

It comes in a pink plastic bottle with a flip top lid, which is always useful in the shower. You stand the bottle on the lid which helps to easily dispense the body wash. The wash itself, as the name would suggest is very creamy in texture and has a lovely floral smell. While the fragrance is quite strong it is not overpowering but strong enough to linger on the skin after washing. As this is a cream a small amount produces lots of silky smooth lather when used with a sponge or scrunchy and actually feels quite luxurious for a product in this price range. After use the skin is subtly fragranced and feels really soft and smooth and slightly moisturised. I have normal to dry skin that is sometimes irritated by shower/body products but I have not had any problems with this one. In fact my skin feels slightly less dry and looks quite luminous and healthy

The normal price for this is £3.00 for 250mls but is often on offer at half price or on a mix and match multi buy promotion which I think is good value. Avon products can be purchased through a local representative with free delivery or online via the Avon website with delivery charges of £3.50 for standard delivery or £5.50 for express delivery

Overall I would say this is a good value body wash given the fact that it has a reasonable price point and good hydration properties. However, although I myself like the fragrance it could be a little less pleasurable for some.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Best product of this type I have tried

I have very fair, freckled skin which tans lightly on upper body and arms but when it comes to legs I seem to have no natural tanning ability at all. In summer months I like to use some kind of tanning product to give my legs some colour and have tried many in the past, mostly with really bad results. I find that self tans quite honestly looked shocking on me. So, I decided to try one of the many gradual tan body lotions currently on the market. The first one I tried was Natio, which I bought at Debenhams but at around £13.00, as I recall, was quite expensive but produced really nice results despite the strong after smell. Anyway I ran out of this and needed a replacement urgently when I spotted this on a buy one get one free offer at Tesco and decided to give it a try.

This body lotion comes in a Yellow coloured plastic bottle (seems to be standard for most brands) with a good fitting flip lid which is good for avoiding spills. It is available from most supermarkets and stores such as Boots and Superdrug and comes in two options of fair to medium skin, which is the one I use and medium to Dark Skin. I will mention at this point that I did pick up the medium to dark option by mistake a few months ago but when I used it I did not see the difference. On the bottle it states, no streaks, subtle fresh fragrance and that it gradually builds a beautiful, even tan. On the back it goes on to claim it gives 24hr moisturisation and is blended with Avocado and Starflower Extracts, absorbs easily to avoid staining and has a subtle fresh fragrance to avoid after smell. These were the claims on which I based my first purchase.

The lotion itself is very light and spreads very easily and as it states it does have a nice smell. Once applied skin feels really well moisturised but without a greasy after feel, and, as it sinks in quickly I find that I can dress pretty soon afterwards and have not experienced any staining to clothes or bedding at all. You do need to wash hands thoroughly after use including around and under nails as it will stain the nails which is not a good look. There is definitely no after smell which is a first among the products I have tried previously. The results are really good. It does produce a very even tan which I have found to be just the right shade for me. Not too dark or orange looking and definitely not a streak in sight. Skin looks lovely and smooth as well. If starting from scratch is takes 2-3 days to get the right colour then I maintain this by using every other day.

The cost is very reasonable at around £4.90 (Tesco) for a 250ml bottle but during Spring/Early Summer you can usually find it on offer for even better value.

Conclusion: If I were to choose between this and the other more expensive brand I used I would choose this one for many reasons including price and the fact that it does not have any after smell. It really does live up to its claims giving a beautiful, even, natural looking tan. This is the best product of this type I have used.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

No outstanding results. Will continue the search for the perfect anti ageing hand cream

Recently I noticed that my hands were starting to look a bit crepey and looking a bit older than the rest of me. This is probably a combination of age and a lack of care. So I thought I would try to do something about it and invested in Decleor Nourishing and Soothing Hand Cream. The reasons I chose this particular Hand Cream were that firstly I had tried a few other Decleor products and found them effective and pleasurable to use and more importantly, this product claims to 'Help limit the signs of ageing, fine lines and age spots' 'Helps reduce excessive perspiration' 'Nourishes and protects from external aggressors to leave the skin satin soft'.

The first thing I noticed when I opened this was the smell, and not in a good way. Usually Decleor products have a really nice smell, but not in this case. In fact, initially, it actually made me feel quite nauseous. However, desperate for nice smooth hands I have persevered with this and try not to inhale the aroma.

The Hand cream comes in a bright yellow tube with the Decleor branding and product details printed on the front and back. The tube has a screw top lid. Personally I think flip tops are more practical on a product which you apply to your hands for obvious reasons. The cream itself is really light in texture but you really don't need to use a large amount. It sinks in really well, does not leave any greasy residue and your hands do feel very soft and nourished after use. I have found this effect to last for several hours unlike some I have used in the past which have simply disappeared and actually made the hands feel dry.

Unfortunately, I have not noticed a significant change in the appearance of my hands. They do look more nourished therefore slightly less crepey but I am not convinced this is solely as a result of this particular product , maybe, the same effect could have been achieved equally as well with another product, given the fact that I wasn't using hand cream overly regularly before this. No exceptional results in the anti ageing department here I'm afraid. It does condition the nails and cuticles quite well though.

I purchased a 50ml tube of this and it has lasted quite well but for a product that you may need to use several times per day due to washing and at night as well I think a larger size would be better. (If you like the smell that is). The normal price for a 50ml tube is £14.00 but it can currently be purchased from Cheapsmells.com at £7.95 including delivery.

Conclusion: Not a good smell, and, given the price tag and claims I would have expected more of an anti ageing effect from this product. For me, the search continues for a good anti ageing hand cream.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Really nice flavour. Smooth and Creamy.

As a general rule I don't like yogurt of any kind. It tends it tends to be too bitter for me, even if it does have added sweeteners, sugars, bits of fruit or whatever.

I bought Ski smooth initially for my daughter who had spotted them in the supermarket and noticed they had no bits, which she dislikes. Having got them home I thought I would give them a try and I was so pleased. A yogurt I actually like.

They are really smooth and creamy with a lovely flavour. To me they do not taste like usual yogurt at all. We tend to go for the pack of four containing 2 Raspberry and 2 Strawberry. Both flavours are equally as pleasing. I have also seen them in Vanilla and Strawberry (2 of each) and Cherry and Blackcurrant (2 of each) combinations. I would say that they are ideal for school lunch boxes as children will love these because there are no bits and they are a bigger pot than those aimed at very small children.

According to the packaging they contain all natural ingredients and are free from artificials, low in fat and gluten free. Each pot is 120g and has 118 calories (strawberry and Raspberry Flavours). The usual price at Tesco is £1.50 and they are currently on offer at 2 for £2.50. They usually have a 2-3 week use by date.

Summary: Really nice flavour with a smooth and creamy texture. Even if you do not like yogurt, give these a try, you might be pleasantly surprised.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

                  Good value for money.

I'm not usually big on eye make-up. For me just mascara and maybe a sweep of Neutral eye shadow if going out in the evening. I have tried several eye liners, liquid, pencils etc but never really liked the heavy look or in the case of liquid eye liner, the difficulty in applying it. Then I discovered Avon Glimmersticks.

The liner stick itself is inside a slim, plastic, pen like, casing with a removable lid. When you remove the lid you will see the eye liner tip which again is pen like in shape. The eye liner is retractable (like a lipstick) by twisting so you can have more or less eye liner protruding. My advice would be not to have too long a length to avoid breakage but equally not so short that the casing scratches as you apply.

The eyeliner itself comes in several colours. Blackest Black, Majestic Plum, Saturn Grey, Cosmic Brown and Starry Night Blue. The application is fantastic. You don't need to press on too hard to get a nice line and the liner goes on really smoothly without dragging, but basically the harder you press the thicker and darker the line will be. Application is very easy to control and very precise. It is of a slightly creamy texture when applied and can be smudged to give a softer look although it does not come with its own smudger. This product is ideal for a soft daytime look or a more dramatic evening look. Once applied, this lasts all day without having to be touched up and I have not experienced any 'running'.

The normal price for this is £6.00 but is regularly on offer at a lower price or as part of a promotion such as two for £8.00. The product looks and has the feel of good quality with the sleek black packaging that Avon use for all the make-up in this range. Brand and product details are in Silver so they are easy to see and add to the good looks. The details indicate that this product is good for 24 months and as it is a retractable design it never needs sharpening.

It can be purchased free of delivery charges from an Avon Representative or if there is no Representative in your area it can be ordered on line at the Avon website but delivery charges will apply which costs £3.50 for standard delivery and £5.50 for express delivery.

Conclusion: I really like this eyeliner. In fact I even wear it during the day and it's the only one I use now.

                    Disadvantages

Nice as an additional cleansing product but not as a standalone product

Cleansing water is described by Decleor as a make-up remover for face and eyes, ideal for sensitive and reactive skin.
Frankly I do not find it effective enough to remove make-up on its own, but, after experimenting I did find probably an unintentional benefit. If used after cleansing and toning it does remove residue which is surprisingly left behind by regular toner which you would not normally see.
I tend to remove make-up in the evening with separate cleansing and toning products and use this in the morning as a one step cleanser, when there is no make up to be removed, or after using a facial wash.
The clear liquid contains Rose, Sweet Clover and Mallow Essential Waters 2.2% along with Camomile, Neroli, Lavender and Marjoram Essential Oils 0.1% and, although it is again stated by Decleor is fragrance free it does have a pleasant smell (perhaps derived only from the ingredients) which makes it a pleasure to use.
You only need to apply a small amount to a cotton wool pad and seep over the face and neck, including eyes. No rinsing needed. After use your skin feels fresh, looks bright and feels really soft and slightly moisturised with no tightness.
It's quite pricey if you buy/use it as an additional cleansing product. Normal price is £21.50 for 250ml from Decleor but it can currently be purchased from Cheapsmells.com at £14.95 for 250ml or £17.95 for 400ml, but it will last ages. I've had a 250mil size for around 3 months and still have half left.
Packaging is disappointing given the price tag. It comes in a rather cheap feeling plastic bottle with a plastic flip lid. Something a little more substantial would probably make it more appealing.
For me this is an excellent addition to my cleansing routine, especially when time is of the essence at 5.30am when getting ready for work, but I would not use it as a replacement for my existing routine.
Overall: Not sufficiently effective to remove makeup on its own therefore expensive so you would have to decide if buying this product is justified. Nice product to use though and definitely no irritation.

                    Good budget airline

We used Jet2 this year for the first time for our return journey from East Midlands airport to Faro in Portugal. We chose Jet2 purely on price which was around £110 cheaper per person that other similar airlines flying the same route and the flight times were better for our needs.
We experience no direct problems, although our outbound flight was delayed but not indicated as so on the screens which were actually showing the flight as boarding. We were left waiting at the boarding gate for around 45 minutes and then we sat on the aircraft for a further 30 minutes after the doors had been closed but no explanation was offered.
Despite this the flights in both directions were pleasant with a friendly and helpful crew. The seats (standard) were comfortable enough for a short haul flight. I am only 5'3 so usually don't have problems with leg room anyway but my son is 6' and he said he was comfortable and did not have any problems with the leg room. The aircraft was clean but the arm rest cover on my window seat was missing therefore unable to use as uncomfortable.
The prices given online do include taxes and charges but extras generate additional charges, which I have detailed below. A booking fee of 3.6% applies with Jet2.
When booking you can choose and reserve your seats for £5.99 per person each way or if you prefer extra leg room its £12.99 per person each way. In-flight meals can be pre booked, at least 96 hours before departure, for £9.00 per adult each way or £5.00 per child each way. Discounted bundles are available for adding seats, meals and travel insurance to your booking.
The online booking process is clear and easy to follow or you can book through the call centre. You can choose on line check in which works out at £10 per person or airport check in at £20 per person. As I recall, if you choose online check in you can do this anytime within 28 days of departure, and you print off your boarding passes to take to the airport.
If you need to check in luggage the baggage allowance is a generous 22kg which costs £16.49 per person each way and the hand luggage allowance is 10kg.
During your flight you are offered the usual refreshments (drinks, snacks sandwiches etc) which are quite expensive but this is normal for airlines. On board shopping is also available. No entertainment but I think this is usual for a budget short haul flight.
Check in. It stated on our booking that the desk would be open 2 hours before departure but we arrived two and a half hours before due to the taxi being early and the desk was already open. This was a bonus for us as we wanted to eat at the airport before our flight so it gave us more time. Seats we not an issue as we had pre booked them but it might be worth checking on this if you haven't to avoid disappointment of not sitting together.
Overall we found our Jet2 experience very satisfactory. We would use again and would not hesitate to recommend this airline to our family and friends.

                    Disadvantages

                    Overall a good everday moisturiser

I have been using this moisturiser for a few weeks now and have seen an improvement in the general surface texture of my skin which is now much smoother and supple and looks fresher with a healthy glow. This product is recommended for all skin typles providing a 'continuous drip feed hydration combined with targeted anti pollution plant active ingredients' and although quite pricey, around £36.00 for a 50ml pot, this product will last a long time as unlike cheaper moisturisers you only need to use a very small amount. It is recommended that you apply the moisturiser after a few drops of the Aromessence Neroli. I have tried this approach but as I have a normal skin type rather than dry I find that by using both products together it takes longer for it to sink in now that my skin is more hydrated so I have changed to applying the Neroli just in the evening with my night cream and the moisturiser is working equally as well. Applying makeup on top of this product is a dream. You need to use less foundation and it appears even with better coverage. The cream itself has a wonderful, light, creamy texture which glides on beautifully and has a lovely floral smell. I have used other Decleor products but this is my first purchase of a facial moisturiser and I am definately impressed.
