As a keen golfer playing once a week I go through golf gloves every 2 or 3 months. Usually I just buy the cheapest glove in the pro shop as I know its going to wear out within couple of months and will need to be replaced. I decided to try this Nike glove when it was on sale at a major golf retailer. Hoping for a better performance from one of the leading brands.
Packaging was easy to get into and recyclable. Glove fitted easily and was instantly comfortable. It looks good on and feels sturdy and durable. The glove comes in either a white or black colouring and is made of leather. The glove also has a small ball marker attached to it which comes in handy although as with many gloves which have the same thing, I have found it easy to lose the ball marker so I use a different product for this.
The glove gives me a great grip on my clubs. I wear it for all shots apart from chipping and putting and it gives the feeling of extra grip without me strangling the club. Overall performance is high and gives a feeling of having an advantage opposed to using the cheaper gloves I used to. Unfortunately, after around 8 rounds, I have noticed that as with all gloves, the areas on the palm of the hand are starting to wear. This happens to me with all gloves but I hoped this wouldn't be the case with a more expensive glove. Also I am starting to find that on some shots the velcro strap which keeps the glove tight, is coming loose during my down swing. Sometimes resulting in less grip of my club and not the shot I was hoping for.
I have used the glove in both wet and dry conditions and the overall performance of the glove remained the same. Also after a major downpour and a soaking of the glove, it dried out rather quickly and didn't go crispy as I found with a number of the cheaper products. Only noticeable difference after drying out was that the glove seemed to retain some of the dirt and wasn't as white as before, this can only be expected with a leather product though.
I managed to pick up the glove for £7.99 which is around half price compared to buying this glove in a pro shop or out with an in-store deal. Around the normal price I play for a glove and to be honest for the money it cost me it was no worse or better than the gloves I normally purchase.
This is premium golf product in my eyes, by one of the leading manufacturers and I expected better durability. Although the comfort and initial performance was outstanding, this wavered with continued use and the glove broke down dramatically. I cannot see the benefit of buying this glove for around £15 to £20 when a product of similar quality and performance will cost you around half the price.
As a keen sportsman and sports coach I recommend Powerade products to my team mates and also the players I coach.
- As with most of these energy drinks is they provide rehydration and also energy for improved performance. This Powerade does this as well.
- Still. As opposed to some energy drinks this is still, not fizzy. Therefore better for use before and during participation in sports.
- Taste. This variant, mixed berry, is great tasting while not overpowering. Also its a different flavour compared to a number of their competitors who seem to make standard orange and citrus variants.
- Recycling. The whole bottle is able to be recycled. Great for the environment.
- Price. Around £1 a bottle, look out for deals. If bought in powder form direct from Powerade then can save money. Otherwise its more expensive than water and doesn't justify the price.
As opposed to most other energy drinks I highly recommend these still versions of Powerade. They aren't full of calories, they aren't fizzy, they taste great and give an extra boost of energy to boost performance!
Highly recommended to any sportsmen and remember to look for the deals.
Lets start by saying I'm a 16 handicapper and a snob when it comes to golf gear. Since an early age I've always played either Callaway or Nike golf balls. Recently when stocking up on golf balls I came across the Nike PD Soft and I've not looked back. As the name suggests its a distance golf ball but with a soft and responsive feel.
For a dozen balls it cost me £15. Not too bad when you consider that some balls like Titliest ProVI can cost around £40 for a dozen.
When you take the ball out of the box you can immediately feel the quality of them. They feel softer than normal golf balls when you press a thumb into them yet you can't believe they are marketed as a distance ball. Well as soon as you play them you will see why.
I've seen my performance of the tee improve massively, the ball flies true and gives me around an extra 20 yards off the tee. This may not be too much to some but it makes a huge difference to me.
I feel comfortable playing this ball from the fairway as well because I know with a good strike I'm confident of a soft landing on the putting green.
These balls are definitely value for money and the performance is superb. Highly recommend them to any mid to high handicappers.
I've had the Samsung Galaxy S II for over a year now and I've only got one fault with it, the battery! Otherwise why would you want to pay the extra £200 for an iPhone when the Galaxy S II does an equally good job!
The Galaxy S II is the second in the Galaxy range of smartphones developed by Samsung. It has a front facing and rear facing camera, a processor and screen quality to match the iPhone and a multitude of applications available through the Google Play store to more than match Apple's iTunes store.
This phone is easy to use, Samsung have put on their Sense variant of the Google Android operating system. This comes with a stock internet browser which is relatively quick and simple to use. It has no add ons and is very basic. The messaging and call functions are simple as well. Installing apps is easy enough, just navigate to the Play store and search for what your after and install it. Other standard features, such as the camera, clock, alarm are equally easy to use and don't differ from many other smartphones in their operation.
Look & Feel:
The phone looks sleek and professional to me. Its not heavy in the slightest and is quite light to hold and carry around. It fits seamlessly in a pocket as well. The build quality is outstanding, as you would expect from Samsung, it may feel slightly plasticy in your hand but having dropped the handset a number of times it still looks in perfect condition and works equally as well as I when I first got it. Also I have never had a cover or screen protector on my phone and it still has a perfect looking screen with no scratches, you just have to be careful where you put it!
Battery life, as with all smartphones, is a nightmare. The Galaxy S II needs to be charged every day, even with minimal use, power saving mode on and no apps running in the background. Also the screen doesn't hold up too well in bright sunlight.
Overall, this phone is a great competitor to the iPhone and for the price difference it is a wise choice.
Barcelona are the most successful football team of the past decade, winning European Cups, League titles and many many plaudits for the style of football they have adopted. This book, Barca - the making of, details everything about the club from board level all the way down to how youth teams are expected to play and behave. Throw in interviews with the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique and you really have an outstanding read.
The book is written by Graham Hunter, a sports journalist based in Barcelona but originally from Aberdeen in the North of Scotland. Graham is a renowned expert on all things relating to Barcelona FC and is regularly used on SkySports' Spanish football coverage for his in depth knowledge.
The book itself is quite large, around 450 pages, but unlike many sports books this is an engaging read. The book reads as a timeline through the ages of Barca, leading up to the champions league final of 2011. This history lesson is interspersed with excerpts from interviews with many leading figures and idols from the game of football and from Barcelona FC themselves. These include club presidents, captains and even parents of the star players.
The insight that Graham Hunter has managed to portray is extraordinary and gives every reader a much deeper knowledge of the game of football, not just relating to Barcelona.
I would highly recommend this book to any keen coaches of football or even just fans of the game. This review doesn't include much in terms of content, I wouldn't want to spoil that for the readers!
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable and informative read. Worth every minute spent on it.
Apple redefined tablet PC's with the 1st generation iPad. The 2nd generation was a continuation of this and since its release it has only been bettered by its successor, the ipad 3!
If you are reading this review I can only assume you know what I am iPad is. In short its a device for storing/listening to music and videos, accessing the internet and downloading and using a multitude of various applications.
As with most Apple products you get value for money. Although compared to some other tablet PC's on the market it may seem a little steep in price, the comparison in performance is astounding. The iPad 2, even now, is still markedly ahead of a number of Apples competitors most recent offerings. How? Well due to its reliability, ease of use and quickness. Everything the iPad does is done at speed. Applications rarely crash and there is endless support for every aspect.
There are many many uses for an iPad. What I have found it most useful for is the internet. Even though Apple products don't support Flash functionality this isn't a problem. Most of my use on the iPad is to go online to either look up information, mainly random and useless stuff but anyway. Also I use it for online shopping as I know that the web browser is completely safe from malware and other internet hacks so should be trouble free.
The look and feel of the iPad 2 is still much nicer than many other tablet PC's. Its lightweight yet feels durable and it is a very beautiful looking device. Nothing fancy going on to distract you from the screen. The screen really does do justice to the wealth of information and applications that it can run.
Video and sound playback is superb. Video is crisp and barely takes time to load. The volume can go surprisingly high yet as you would expect this diminishes the quality.
There are 2 variants of the iPad, with or without 3G. In my experience I have not yet found a use for my 3G connection on my iPad and would thoroughly suggest people go for the cheaper option of wifi only.
The battery life is around 9 hours per charge, thats plenty of watching videos, surfing the web or playing games! Obviously the more you use it the quicker it goes but performance doesn't change whether you have 1% or 99% of battery life remaining.
I would recommend that anyone looking for a new laptop/pc who is not a hardcore gamer or developer should get an iPad instead. They are probably around the price and offer a quicker solution for many everyday tasks which take place on a laptop.
The outlay of an iPad, albeit not a small outlay, is repaid quickly through the amount of use the iPad gets and the time it saves for menial tasks.
Everyone should own one!
As a man in my mid 20's its inevitable that I'm a fan of most things retro. Casio watches are high up on my list! For me they symbolise the start of digital watches and all of my friends had one when I was a youngster.
In my collection now I have 4 casio watches, 3 of them are of the type described here but in a variety of colours (grey, orange and blue). These watches are fantastic.
The main function of these watches is to tell time, with a bright display which is easily read even in the brightest sunlight the time can be easily read by anyone with at least 1 eye. The date and day is also displayed on the clock face and these are also easily interpreted. There are also other functions, an alarm and a stopwatch. The alarm doesn't have snooze functionality, probably the only downside to this product. Nevertheless it is loud and does a good job of waking you up. The stopwatch is easy to use.
Adjusting the time/date is something which any user of a casio watch will remember. It is simple to do but if you struggle the manual that comes with the watch details all the available uses in detailed steps.
The watch has a rubber strap and this is very durable. Also, I did at one point get a stain on my grey watch, this was easily removed with a bit of generic cleaner and some elbow grease. The watch is also very lightweight and sometimes you can forget you are wearing it.
The price of the watch varies from around £20 to £45 for a gold or silver version. I didn't find this to be extortionate for a watch that can be worn every day!
These watches are superb, a great throwback to the 80's and 90's and with the array of colours you can match every outfit with a different watch! Plus they always grab someone's attention.
I'm very regimented when it comes to shower gels, toothpastes etc and have been an avid user of Original Source shower gel for a number of years. The price, sometimes over £2 a bottle, has never put me off. This is because the quality of product, whichever variant of shower gel you choose, is always fantastic.
The bottle is plastic and unlike many shower gel bottles, has a flat top which makes it easy to rest it on the side of the bath! Also the dispensing part of the lid stays very clean and through the many bottles of original source shower gel I have used I've never found an issue with the packaging.
There are many different smelling shower gels on offer from Original Source and when I saw the "Lime" variant in my local supermarket recently I had to give it a try. I was not disappointed. The smell was not overpowering yet it was strong and left me smelling slightly of limes for a good while after I finished my shower. Obviously this is not good if you're not a fan of limes, fortunately for me I am!
I would highly recommend trying out a number of Original Source shower gels and from now on I will be adding the "Lime" version to my list of approved bathroom products!
The Apple iPod Classic 160Gb is wonderful, I actually cannot live without mine.
The product is a portable music player designed by Apple, it can store more songs than anyone can actually own. It also has the capacity for video play back and comes pre loaded with a number of extra features, like an alarm clock and some mini games.
The main use of the iPod is to listen to music. Over 10000 songs can be stored on this wonderful little machine. The sound output is, as expected from an Apple product, superb. One of the main advantages of this item is the battery life. I have owned my iPod for around 2 years and the battery still lasts around a week with 3 or 4 hours of playback a day.
The video quality is also good, although the screen is small, video's are easily watched.
The system software on the iPod is so easy to use, music, videos and other applications are easy to find and use. Also your music and videos are so easy to find. Another great feature is the ability to create playlists quickly and easily.
The iPod comes with standard Apple headphones which are great. They help with the sound quality output from the device and are iconic for this generation.
There is no downside to this item. Apple also has a great warranty deal and will fix or replace items which are faulty, usually over the counter. Fortunately though I've not had to deal with them for this item which is so reliable, even though it has been dropped a number of times it works perfectly well still after 2 years.
Overall the iPod classic 160Gb is amazing. The battery life is phenomenal and you can store thousands of songs on it. The audio and video playback is superb and I cannot rate this piece of kit highly enough.
I am a big fan of this soft drink. My partner and I both enjoy a diet coke or coke zero due to their low calories. I also love citrus foods and drinks so was eager to taste this when I saw it in a shop recently. I was not disappointed when I tasted this great drink!
With all the benefits of a diet coke (low calories yet still great coke taste) the experience is heightened by the added citrus flavour in this type of diet coke. Its not an overpowering flavour, there is just a delicious after taste after every mouthful.
This drink, as with all soft drinks, is best served at a very cold temperature. It is also very refreshing unlike some other variations of Coke soft drinks. The only downside I can think of for this drink is that the taste sometimes does not go with other foods like chocolate bars.
Overall this is a great product and a superb alternative to the standard flavour of Coke, Diet Coke and Coke Zero. With its obvious health benefits compared to standard Coke it is a no brainer to choose this instead of standard Coke.
I will continue to drink this drink regularly and recommend it to people all the time!
I was extremely excited to get my hands on my Dell XPS when it released. The spec sounded ideal for my everyday uses of mainly surfing the web, playing games and software development. Unfortunately my initial experience of this machine was not up to the standard I expected from Dell. The laptop is a small to mid range laptop with the specification of a high end laptop.
Firstly the wireless card was faulty and had to be replaced twice, it is a known issue for this machine and the wireless card they use has been changed thanks to customer input and the part they now use in the Dell XPS is of higher quality.
Secondly, the hard drive failed after around 2 years of usage. Dell were superb in replacing the drive and I was told it was a known fault. Dell replaced the hard drive even though it was out of warranty for no fee.
Apart from those problems the laptop is superb. The performance has not dwindled in nearly three years of use. It sometimes overheats but not to an unbearable level.
The laptop has an excellent screen, the quality is incredible and no pixels have diminished over the time I've owned the laptop. The laptop has a great backlight keyboard. The keyboard is of great quality and none of the keys have even been stuck for the time I've used the machine.
The Dell XPS has a 500Gb hard drive and although I store a large amount of music and have a second operating system installed on a separate partition I am no where near being able to fill even half of the space.
The battery life on this laptop is quite adequate for a laptop of this age. I can normally get around 2 hours of use while listening to music and either gaming or programming.
Overall the laptop is a great purchase and I'm sure if you purchased one today that the initial problems I faced would not be faced by you. It is a great little laptop which is also powerful enough for a number of different, high intensive tasks. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a laptop and Dell's customer service was superb throughout the time I have owned the Dell laptop.
