I originally bought this phone as I was looking for a phone which had WIFI but still used the old Sony Ericsson software, I had limited choice when it came to finding this specification but the ELM ticked all the boxes and at a budget price!
The phone is modeled as a "ECO FRIENDLY" phone, which seemed rather off putting at first, but I quickly realized that this wasn't going to cause any issues in usage.
The shape of the phone is rather small, rectangular like a lot of the older models but much thinner and lighter! it also has a curved back (according to the manual this was designed to prevent the phone from slipping out of your hand. however this didn't work for me, even with rough hands, so a slight design fault in my opinion.
Despite running on the 3G networks I was somewhat disappointed with this phone when it came to using it to make calls, granted I don't make a lot of calls but when I did they were awful.. the signal just didn't seem strong enough and it was always very distorted, the strange thing is that the other people could always hear me fine!, the plus side of this phone is that it features something called noise shield! this is amazing! I could be in the pub with loud noises all around, but no noises would ever be heard by the other person! (usually the Mrs), the speaker phone works quite well too, Overall I wouldn't recommend it for calling,
Texting using this phone is a simple as 123, literally, with it being a standard 1-9 *0# keyboard the texts use the normal press 666 for the letter O ect, this makes it very simple for people who have used this type of phone before to quickly pick it up, the Sony Erickson text application is very basic but similar to older models of Sony, The phone also holds the messages in a conversation view which is very useful and tidy!
The phone is run on Sony Ericsson branded software, using much of the same menus and features of the previous models, including features such as track ID and the same menu layouts. There is other options on this phone which include settings for the WIFI and many of the phones basic features, Screen, tones ect.
Web browsing on this phone is brilliant, its quick and easy with no fuss, even faster with the WIFI switched on and set up! web pages are displayed clearly with no need for an external application like many other phones.
The music and video player on this phone is very basic and doesn't leave much in the room of customization, the best thing to do if you require this phone for "MP3" player purposes is to download a .JAR application, The phone also has the ability to play online music videos via a YouTube application. The phone also features a FM radio however you can only use this if you have the headphones plugged in, however when plugged in there is an option for a loudspeaker.
Besides being a "ECO" phone it also has features such as the WIFI which has an impressive range for a mobile device, and a 5MP camera with a light (not really bright enough to be called a flash) the picture quality is quite good though, but the Video quality on this phone is impressive, although it only records in VGA size the detail is amazing, its just a shame that the videos are recorded in the .3GP format. The phone also has GPS which comes in useful, not so much for navigation but more for "training" purposes, the phone is capable of telling you how fast your moving which I love as I ride to work in a morning, know how far I travel and how fast and what my route looks like! it also features a Pedometer to track the number of steps you do in a day, this is usually quite accurate.
The screen on this phone is smaller than it first looks due to the silver border around it, but this soon gets dismissed when you see how vibrant it is and start using the phone. one of the features of the screen is a little sensor at the top that brightens the screen during the day and dims it at night but lights the keyboard, I thought this was amazing and obviously in line with the ECO friendly ness of the phone, I wish other phones had this feature as well!
as mentioned the keyboard is a standard 1-9 keyboard but the buttons are well layed out and I have never missed a button, its really easy to text without looking as well which is handy when the boss-man is about! although it does have a tendency to "click" when you press buttons, not too loud but enough to hear you type.
The battery on this phone is very good, I believe this is most likely down to the ECO part of the phone, there is never any issues with it getting to hot or anything like that, the charger is the old style Sony Ericsson charger with the big pins.
as far as add-ons go this phone works like most other Sony Ericsson using the .jar applications, the phone doesn't have any problems running a large range of the different apps out there, there is also customizable themes available to download or even make yourself using software included on the CD. The phone also is capable of storing up to 280MB of data internally! that is huge, and has capabilities to read up to 8GB Micro SD cards.
The accessories included with this phone is a ECO carry case, the charger and some tacky headphones that use the Large pin port, I would recommend getting some headphones from the old W model phones.
Other than the phones main purpose to call people it is actually not a bad little phone. there is no other major issues the point out
It has many features and is easy to use. Overall I'm really glad I bought this phone and would recommend it to anyone who texts often but calls little. Plus it's eco friendly which is good.
Lucozade comes in quite a few different forms and flavours, I do like the orange but only drink it as it seems like the only flavour the garage near my workplace will stock! other flavours include original, apple, blackcurrent and cherry. (I love the cherry one)
When buying these I prefer to buy the multipacks as it is far too easy to just drink all of a 1litre bottle in a short time! its almost like it becomes addictive to some point, also its worth keeping in mind though that its sometimes cheaper to buy the bigger bottles, the local garage do them at 2 for £1.75, yet the multipacks are £3.50 (equivelant of the same amount)
A lot of people use lucozade when they arent feeling to good, IT WORKS!, not sure why, maybe its something to do with the SUPER high sugar content? however if you are drinking it because your not feeling to good then I recommend sticking to the original flavour!
My reason for drinking it is exactly as it says on the bottle "giving you a physical edge", it really does, I work 12 hour shifts 5 days a week and 6hours at the weekends, and the lucozade is just there for me! I find it better than the coffee that everyone drinks however it does sometimes lead to an upset tummy if I dont have no breakfast!
I could bore you now with the ingreadients but all you really need to know is that 1/4 of its content is just glucose syrup!, and the majority of the others is just carbonated water. as above the sugar content is extremely high, bare this in mind on your next dentist visit! if you drink a 1litre bottle (like i do) then you consume a day and a halfs worth of sugar in this alone!!!
The only real negatives of this product other than the sugar is how fast you can come down from the "edge", I have manyier times got home and crashed out, something that doesnt happen when i drink coffee instead!
And on a alternate note, I dont understand why the big 1 litre bottles have a tiny lid when the little bottles have a massive lid! (one of lifes mysteries i guess)
Overall, a great product if you need to get some sort of pick me up, however I wouldnt recommend for regular use
The shape of this phone is nice and from a distance it looks like the blackberry mobiles that are on the market, it fits into your hand nicely but as the back is very smooth it very easily drops out of your hand from time to time. the size of it is manageable but sometimes a bit top heavy, its not too heavy in general though.
Calling with this phone is very clear, with the ability to make the volume go up or down as required, however the speaker where the voice comes from has become loose and rattles within the phone sometimes. the loud speaker on the phone is very good as well.
Texting on the phone is very easy with the QWERTY keyboard, the application is the same as all previous Nokia models.
The phone uses the standard Nokia operating system which is the same as a lot of the other Nokia phones which are not smartphones. there are some slight differences such as the Ovi store, and the community applications.
The basic Nokia web browser is usable however if you want to use this phone for frequent web browsing i would suggest downloading an external application such as skyfire or Opera mini. when using these programs the phone is able to display web pages quickly and precisely.
In addition to the web browsing capabilities the phone features WIFI which is a nice little bit of tech for this basic phone however it's somewhat difficult to get set up correctly and can drain the battery quickly.
The media player on the phone is a little bit better than the older Nokia's however there is still room for improvements, if you want to use this phone as an MP3 player on the go you will have to spend quite a lot of time building a playlist before you can play the tracks in sequence, otherwise selecting a track will just play it one by one.
Browsing your picture gallery is really easy on this phone, it shows thumbnail pictures in which you click to enlarge, mobile videos can also be played in the same way.
The keyboard on this phone as mentioned above is the QWERTY keyboard which is very easy to use, works well with women who have fingernails or guys with large fingers as well, the only downside is that they keys paint work rubs off during general use.
The battery on this phone lasts quite a long time if doing everyday tasks such as calling, texting and occasional web use, battery life shortens quickly when using things such as the media player or WIFI
The charger used for this phone is a standard Nokia Mini pin charger which are widely available.
The only problem ever had with this phone was a software fault, where it crashed every time the camera was loaded or the memory card was accessed, this was solved by plugging the phone into the computer and updating the phones software to the latest version, this also enabled the communities and Ovi store to work correctly.
This phone with its combination of the QWERTY keyboard and the WIFI coupled with the Social network applications makes this phone a cheap alternative to the blackberry models.
if your looking for low tech with social & style, this is the one for you.
Got this TV about a year ago after the old CRT TV broke on us,
We was looking for the cheapest option really but with a decent enough size screen, our budget was £300 and at the time the biggest size out there was 32 inch TV's which we was considering getting, then through the power of eBay deals we came across this alba 40 inch TV, had a quick look at the specification and all seemed promising, so the order was placed and we waited for it to arrive
On arrival we was presented with a humongous box! still excited with the anticipation of a giant TV and being naturally curious we dived straight in!, wasn't that simple though as there was lots and lots of protection, foam, bubbles ect.. I complained at the time haha but looking back I can see it was very well protected during transit.
After getting the TV out of the box and placing it on our TV unit (which only just fit) we plugged it in and then eagerly awaited the picture to come on... Nothing!! a blue light had lit up on the front of the TV but what we didn't realise what that you have to wait a couple of seconds from pressing the power switch on the side then press the power switch on the remote, few.
When the TV was up and running we was presented with a TV Start up wizard which was mainly just to tune the free-view, the screens looked a little complicated and old fashioned but then again its something you only need to see once.
Then the magic began, the TV started up, presented with channel 1 we decided to flick through the channels to see what we had, and we were quite impressed as we had several new channels we couldn't get signal on with our old digital receiver box.
The picture looked "okay" nothing amazingly special, and the sound seemed a little distorted compared to the older CRT TV, but naturally being a Man I took the remote and started playing about with the picture and sound settings, and I was very impressed, there is a lot of tweaking and adjusting possibilities with certain pre-sets programmed ready to use such as "dynamic" or "game" mode, and then your normal colour contrast brightness sharpness ect.
The sound adjustments were equally as good, changing the Echo, sound type (not sure what this actually is but you notice a difference) and various other settings, currently when watching films certain sounds appear as if they are behind you (this took some getting used to!).
I currently have plugged my surround sound speakers into the TV as well for an even more dramatic sound environment.
Games consoles such as the Xbox and Nintendo Wii look amazing on this TV when displayed Via one of two HDMI sockets, however I did find I had to turn the sharpness up a little for the Xbox, but there is no need to adjust it back again as the TV stores the colour settings to the port which is very useful.
The TV itself is quite bulky and quite heavy but then again its a 40 inch so its not exactly going to be featherweight!, I do sometimes take the whole lot upstairs though and watch it in bed :P so its still very manageable. it has a lovely Gloss black finish which looks very smart.
The stand provided with the TV is very supportive, holds the weight of it perfectly, and is very slightly adjustable, the TV can also be mounted to the wall but this isn't an option I ever looked into doing.
If you ever loose the remote then most functions are accessible on the control panel on the side. however most people tend to have sky, but being a well known brand programming the sky remote is a easy task!.
The only negatives for this TV is that I wish it had a DVD player built in!
Other than that I would highly recommend this TV to anyone looking to get a TV in this sort of size and price range. I believe they can be picked up for around £275 now which is amazing!.
We have this printer in our offices at work for printing dispatch labels for couriers such as TNT, YODEL, DHL and UPS
The size of the printer is relatively small as is the size of the labels it prints (4x6inch), there is not anything special about the shape of it and it does look a bit old fashioned compared to some of the newer Zebra/Citizen printers, its also heavier than it looks so its better in a fixed location.
While printing the speed is very quick, mainly due to the fact it is a thermal printer so there is no moving ink or anything like that, just a single print head that heats the label in a particular way as it passes underneath to create whatever you desire.
As above you must bare in mind that it is a thermal printer, so you cannot print in colour, just black, and you have to have thermal paper in order for this to work. (normal paper just gets feeded through and will not print any image)
if you are printing a lot of labels then you can purchase rolls (usually with around 300 4 x 6 labels per roll) and they can be loaded into the machine and just be printed one after another with no stopping to reload (unless you run out). Loading/replacing the roll is very easy to do with this machine, just pop the lid with the little green catch and take out the empty roll and replace it with a new one. In addition to this single sheets can be fed into the back of the printer.
The printer can be connected to a computer Via USB or a serial adaptor, I use both method of connections however the USB is connected to PC 1 and the Serial is connected to PC2, this means we can use two computers to print on the same printer without disconnecting anything.
The printer only has the one button on it, this is a feed button, it has a green ring around it when everything is working correctly, and shows a red ring if there is any errors, usually the only errors you encounter are that the printer has failed to feed the paper. There is no audible sounds to show any errors like there is with the Citizen printers
The print head sometimes requires cleaning as it can become mucky with dirt or adhesives from the labels, nothing is provided to keep the heads clean however I have found that a cloth and some sort of alcohol wipe does the trick really well, the heads for these machines are expensive so its in your interest to maintain them!
The printer is compatible with windows machines and all programs are able to use the printer providing the page size is set to 4 x 6.
My honest opinion on this machine though is do not waste your time buying it if you are not going to raise at least over 100 labels per day, it is far to expensive for general use and the paper is expensive as well.
To look at this mobile phone it looks very basic but very professional, which I guess is the reason it is used as a company work phone in a lot of business's, the phone was actually smaller than I first anticipated, only being 10.5cm tall is measures in at about the same as my personal phone the SE x8, however at 4cm across and only 1cm deep its much smaller in comparison. It does have rounded edges but still appears to look very "rectangular" however it is very light to handle and weighs very little not to my personal liking though (I prefer heavier phones as they feel more durable).
Calls on this phone are perfect, this phone manages to keep the call connected even when at very low signal, something other phones seem to struggle with, the clarity of the call is very good as well, both party's can hear each other without any issues and the speakerphone provides a just as good performance, from a distance of a meter away both party's are able to speak and hear each other.
Texting on the phone is very basic and very easy to get to grips with, it uses the same text message system as most previous nokia mobile phones so if you have had one in the past it will take you no time at all to pick it up and continue, to be honest though even if you have not used the nokia text system before it is very easy to learn, when receiving messages you get the traditional "1 message received" that shows on the screen and you click open to read, then you are provided with "reply" or "options" buttons to do the required task. The text message text size is also changeable which is quite handy for people that find it difficult to read smaller text or for those who prefer all text to be visible like myself.
The operating system for this phone is Nokia's own and as with the texting if you have used any nokia phones in the past then you wont have a problem with this phone, likewise if you have not the interface is easy to pick up with straight forward icons and names, there is little option for customization using the interface though, you do get the option to change the themes which can be downloaded from the internet or via Wap on the phone, the wallpaper is also customizable along with ringing tones but options are limited unless you use a memory card due to the poor internal memory size, however as the phone does accept a Micro SD car then this can be easily overcome.
Using the internet on this phone is possible via nokia's WAP application, however it can be quite slow and the pages do not format correctly most of the time, it is possible to download external applications to use the internet with this phone such as OPERA however with applications the phone requires additional set up as it doesn't seem to take the WAP setting as application defaults which leads to the "subscribe to packet data" error, obtaining the correct settings from the internet usually overcomes this problem but I see it as unnecessary set up and advise if you wish to use a mobile for internet browsing that you do not get this phone as you may be disappointed.
The media player on this phone is nokia's own, very similar to all older models that have media players, there is no options for customization and it is not very user friendly as a MP3 player, however the sound quality is acceptable, again if you are wanting a phone that you can plug in and listen to then this is not for you either.
The phone doesn't actually have any features that stand out (except for the flashing blue light on the side) but then again it appears nokia have built this phone to be very standard, for the kind of people who make calls often, and text a little bit. The camera on this phone is absolutely useless in my opinion, its 2MP but the quality is that of a 0.3mp kids toy, it looks very grainy and poorly lit compared to a lot of other 2 or 3mpx cameras by nokia (such as the C3)
The screen on this phone is Tiny in my opinion, but then again I am used to my personal phone with has a rather large screen, the colors on the screen are bright but nothing to get excited about, I have found however that the screen scratches really easily so I wouldn't recommend it for someone who is rough with mobiles.
The Keyboard is a basic 1-9 *0# keyboard layed out very neatly in shape with the phone, however I do find that the keys are very small and I sometimes end up pressing the keys next to each other. The keys are backlit though with blue light which I think looks very nice and the numbers do not rub off at all (I have tried), there is some other keys on the phone keypad, two soft keys, left and right, a call answer lit green on the left and a cancel/call end lit red on the right. The phone has a direction buttons which is a outer square which presses up down left or right and a centre square button which is the general okay/accept/proceed button.
The battery on this phone is by far one the best I have seen, when charged it generally lasts for about 3 days receiving about 5-10 calls a day and around 20 texts, I presume the length of this battery is increased by nokia's lack of features on the phone.
The charger for this phone is one of nokias standard chargers as well which makes it very easy to get hold of one if something goes wrong, never had any problems with it not charging or anything like that (I know previous models the Pin inside used to break quite easily).
To summarize, the phone looks professional but lacks features to make it stand out.
I have had this phone now for a couple of months, it is used in a busy environment receiving around 40-50 calls a day.
The shape of the phone is quite stylish and very pleasent and professional to look at, the receiver feels rather on the large side but very durable.
when in a call the quality is very good, both parties are able to clearly hear each other, however when on the speaker phone it doesnt seem to be loud enough even on the highest sound setting, also it feels like you have to be quite close to the phone in order for the other person to be able to hear you aswell.
The menus within the phone are very clear but are also very limited, you get only the basics, answer machine, settings, call lists, appointments and alarm.
The screen display is rather large and shows the date and time clearly, the caller display works however it sometimes takes a couple of rings before it actually shows the number.
The answer phone on this is by far the easiest I have seen, literally just press "play" and you away, then pressing either skip stop or delete to do the actions, couldn't be any more simple if you tried, and to turn the answer phone on its just a simple button.
The phone is a hard-wired phone which doesnt cause any issues if you dont mind standing with the phone when you wish to make any calls! however if like me you sit and dont go anywhere you can plug in a headset to this phone aswell as the receiver!
The keypad on this is of ample size and clarity, slightly curved it feels quite soft as you press the buttons, they dont seem to wear at all either like some other phones I have had in the past.
All in all, if you are after a basic home phone with a answer phone then this is a good value option.
I have the K850 as a backup phone which comes out when the other phones break which alone says alot about the durabilty of this phone!
The shape of the phone is rather bulky and square in my opinion and does take up a considerable amount of space in the pocket however it does mean that it is very hard to drop this phone but if you do it wont break easily
Calls on this phone are of average quality, you can here the other people but sometimes it seems a tad quiet, however I have never had a problem with it not being able to connect a call or dropping out during a call.
Texting on this phone is quick and easy as it is the same as all previous models of the sony ericsson
The phones operating system is sony ericssons own and if you have had a sony ericsson phone in the past you will be able to pick it up in no time at all as most of the options and icons remain the same as previous models, however this doesnt hold much option to customising the user interface as many of the newer andriod operating systems do.
if you plan on using this phone on the internet alot then you wont be too dissapointed however i would recommend you download an application such as opera mini to make accessing the internet faster and more structured compared to the phones own browser.
one of the main features of this phone is the camera and to this day it is by far the best camera I have ever used on a phone, many options to choose and change and the flash works perfectly for low light situations or photos on nights out, the picture quality is amazing!
The screen on the phone is fairly large for the type of phone, very usefull when taking a veiwing pictures or watching mobile video clips, however it is not as viberant as some of the newer phones out.
The keyboard is fairly practical, easy to get to grips with however the only downside is the two soft keys which are intergrated into the screen, this sometimes is a bit strange when coming to use the phone but a good introduction into minor touchscreen
Battery life on this phone isnt amazing, i would recommend replacing the battery every year to get the most out of them, sometimes it gets very hot when in use alot!
The phone being a sony ericsson means you can add on features such as games and applications but they have to be for the Java format .jar and themes have to be in sonys own format, however for this phone they have to be model specific which the bigger screen resolution and the touch softkeys.
The charger for this phone is the sony ericsson own, this is a very durable charger and does the job well, the only downside is that you have the charging port on the phone is fairly large and can often fill with durt if you work in a dusty environment such as building.
the only down side of this phone is that they have not put any real emphasis on the music part, the speaker is quite poor and it lacks the music recognition software that makes the W models quite special, also the headset provided is a basic set of earphones.
The shape of the phone is quite small and rectangular and in my opinion isnt very friendly to hold but doesn't take up a considerable amount of space in the pocket (providing you have large pockets) however it does have a little rubber seal on the back and this makes it hard to drop.
Calls on this phone are of Good quality, no problems with either party, the speaker phone is quite good as well but I wouldn't recommend for calls.
as with all Sony Ericsson phones with there dedicated software the text communication is easy and fast.
The phones operating system is Sony Ericsson own and if you have had a sony ericsson phone in the past you will be able to pick it up in no time at all as most of the options and icons remain the same as previous models, this however doesnt hold much option to customising the user interface as many of the newer andriod operating systems do.
The phone is not very web friendly, it appears to be slow even using alternate applications, I find the screen a strain on my eyes when trying to view websites
The screen on the phone is quite small compared to many of the phones on the market now, not very usefull when veiwing pictures and watching videos if hard.
The keyboard is very practical and easy to work with, Sony moved a step forward with this phone replacing the joystick with a little button.
Battery life on this phone is of average quality, would require charging every other day with an average use.
The phone being a sony ericsson means you can add on features such as games and applications but they have to be for the Java format .jar and themes have to be in sonys own format but the content is limited compared to the android market.
The charger for this phone is the sony ericsson own, this is a very durable charger and does the job well, the only downside is that you have the charging port on the phone is fairly large and can often fill with durt if you work in a dusty environment such as a building site or workshop.
As far as the sound and music is concerned it is quite poor being one of the first phones to play MP3's, and as with all K models they lack the music recognition and only basic headphones are provided.
got this car little over a month ago and so far it has been perfect, which I must add to say it has 141000 miles on the clock now its still alive and very much kicking!
I find the MPG return can be a little poor if not travelling on the motorway but if you are you can expect around 35mpg
I would recommend keeping this car regularly serviced though to maintain the condition, the service light resets to 20000 which I find far to long a gap for a service!
The seats are amazingly comfortable compare to other Peugeot's I have driven and the pedals do not feel as out of place.
Boot space is massive!
the only downsides of the car is the weight, at 1.1tone its quite a load on the 1.8 engine and only kicks out about 110bhp, soon gets up to speed though, no problems overtaking and the handling in the corners is like a dream
As above, the car is nice and small, its very nippy even though it is only a 1.1 and you get a massive return on the fuel, I filled the tank with £45 of petrol (priced at 1.36) and got a massive 400 miles on a motorway run, usually around 300miles on a full tank. to be honest that is about all that there is good with this car, the interior is quite poor, I found it tears easily and seems rather dull, the pedals are hopeless mainly due to the layout, the clutch requires a heavy amount of pressure to apply it and the brake hardly does anything! I also kept having numerous problems with the drive shafts which kept failing and if you have a couple of people in the car it become really sluggish and would probably be better to walk! not very good if you are trying to impress friends
The phones shape is rather small but still a little bigger than the Xperia mini, it has a curved back which makes it idea for holding and difficult to drop the phone, it also is thin enough to slide into your pocket easy and not be recognized.
Calls using this phone are very good, never had any problems with it in this respect and both people can clearly hear each other. the phone also has a speakerphone function, this is a little quiet for my likely but does its job none the less, you get the basic in call tools such as hold mute ect and you can still browse the phones content during a call.
Texting using this phone is relatively easy but may take a fair bit of getting used to, even if you have used previous Sony models as the whole layout and structure is completely different, the texts are layed out in conversation view and does not appear to be changeable (I could be wrong). to write a message you have to select a person from the phone book then write the message.
The phones mobile system is android, so anyone who has had a smart phone before should be familiar with its features, the basic user interface is very basic, you get 4 icons in each corner that you can customize and the time in the middle, luckily being an android phone this is completely customizable using applications downloaded from the android market (for free as well). there is loads of settings to play about with on this phone however there are applications out there to open up a whole load more! I would recommend downloading a task manager application for this phone as it can slow down sometimes when it has not been restarted for a long while.
Web browsing on this phone is quick and easy using the basic browser provided, however its a whole world wide web faster if you use alternate applications such as OPERA which are specially designed for fast accurate web browsing, in addition to this the WIFI when turned on can boost speeds to that of a desktop computer but in the palm of your hand!
as far a media goes on this phone it is quite poor, the applications provided for music and video are very basic and somewhat useless, again I would recommend using alternate applications for all aspects of media, whether that be listening to music, watching videos or taking pictures.
The features of this phone are few, The camera is quite poor and most other functions of the phone require applications in order to optimize its capability.
To sum it up
This phone is amazing if you are someone who likes to sit and play with settings and download applications, however if you are after a simple phone that you just turn on and text and call then I wouldn't recommend this phone.
The screen on this phone is something to be please with though, yes its not that big but if you are moving from a phone with a keypad its amazing, its bright and vibrant and very responsive to the finger, there is no issues of it not working correctly or it not recognizing your fingers! as far as I can tell as well it appears to be very scratch resistant, I have had it for a year now and it still looks nice and clean!
The keyboard on this phone is on the touch screen, it is a QWERTY onscreen keyboard that works really well, even if you have somewhat larger fingers! there is a auto correct feature which means you don't have to be spot on with your spelling like many other android phones and it sort of learns the words and how you press them, the keyboard can be changed in the settings to be a classic 1-9 *0# style, or new applications can be downloaded to have a brand new keyboard.
Battery life on this phone is quite a downside in my opinion, it tends to last about 18-24 hours, which seems quite poor however I do have WIFI always switched on and heavily text and use the internet, there are some cool applications available out there as well to monitor the battery and let you know how to improve usage, there is an app included in the phone settings which shows you how much of the battery is being used for what functions, the main battery drain is the display!
Add-ons on this phone is its lifesaver, if this phone was not on the android system I would not still have it today! There are so many different applications available that the phone can be transformed in so many ways, I'm not just talking about downloading angry birds and a few themes, I'm talking about the whole phone, all user interfaces, settings, lights, new camera apps, new texting applications, keyboards, everything!
The charger for this phone is a basic mini USB, due to the fact it gets put on charge quite often this takes a little stick and becomes a bit temperamental, sometimes it does not charge until you wiggle it about a bit.
you don't get much in the way of accessories besides the charger and some basic headphones, however the plus side of this phone is that it uses a standard headphone socket so you can plug your favorite headphones in and go!
as you may have noticed with a lot of the above, applications are a necessary for this phone, this isn't a problem however the phones internal memory can quickly become full! as the android system is just 2.1 there is no option to store applications on the memory card. (although I know it is possible with some "rooting" but I wouldn't recommend it). battery life is another issue if your wanting to keep it going a few days your going to have to Dim the screen turn off all heavy loaded features and run few applications.
I purchased this laptop second hand off eBay for £300 on an online auction, was looking to buy one of these from a computer store for around £500 brand new, but opted to buy it cheaper instead as the condition was perfect. Being ACER I new it was a brand name I could trust.
The shape of the laptop is fairly regular, nothing special to talk about, its nicely curved around the edges as a lot of the other ACER models are, the only problem I have with the shape is more to do with the weight! its very heavy in comparison with other laptops and quite thick in build.
The screen on the laptop is amazing, really bright and clear compared to my older Laptop which was a Toshiba, (this had a bigger screen with all sorts of crystal light technology) the screen size is a 16inch screen, which means you wont fit it into the 15.6 computer bags without a good push!
The keyboard is brilliant on this laptop, being slightly larger in size than the standard 15.6s they have managed to give you all normal keyboard keys including the number keypad on the right hand side, this comes in very useful with day to day tasks, the buttons are evenly spaced out and comfortable to work with for long periods of time.
One of the negatives of this laptop is the battery, when I received the laptop the battery lasted a poor 5minutes from full charge, so I went out and purchased a new battery (I say went out, it was from eBay). This new battery when fully charged usually lasts 50minutes or so with general use. I tend to keep it plugged in anyway so I don't have to worry about it cutting out on me!
One of my biggest problems with this laptop is that the operating system provided is Windows Vista.. in a nutshell I hate it. you do not get the full performance of this laptop while using windows vista, and for anyone getting this laptop I would recommend having your Windows XP CD at the ready! all drivers are available on the internet, the only downside is that you will loose your E-Tech Button and its features (never used these myself anyway, its just a different graphic interface for the brightness, standby and shutdown ect).
The laptop features a dedicated webcam which is perfect for social messaging applications such as MSN and Skype, the microphone on the camera is perfect as well as long as your not too close, sound can become a little distorted if you are close to the microphone. The camera has the ability to take pictures as well, the device can be accessed through the MY COMPUTER page without having to have any external applications.
The graphics card on this laptop is a stand alone dedicated NVIDIA Graphics card which is a big winner for me when it comes to buying laptops, it helps applications run smoother as the amount of effort required to display graphic interfaces is minimized and provides the ability to run programs such as Photoshop and 3D Cad programs on high quality with no lag! it also hold the ability to play high detail games on the top graphic settings, when in use it does get rather hot though, so I would recommend a heat mat unless you like warm legs.
The main features of this laptop in my eyes is the graphics card as mentioned about, coupled with the HDMI out port for HD viewing on your TV and the BLURAY drive that comes as standard, basically this laptop becomes a home cinema system, play bluray films via your laptop and display it on the big screen!
Sound on the laptop is about average, it uses the Realtek HD audio card for general sound needs through the laptop speakers, its not loud or anything special. However the laptop also features HDMI audio using NVIDIA drives, when a HDMI cable is plugged in and your playing music into another system then the audio is crystal clear!
The speed of the laptop is always of top quality, I can have many applications open and not see a single drop in speed, I believe a lot of this is to do with the dedicated graphics memory, the laptop its self only has 2GB which by todays standard is fairly average, but as a collection of internal parts this laptop well exceeds average. startup time is very quick even a year on with many files and folders that would normally slow down a PC.
The laptop only has 250GB of hard drive space which by todays standard is most likely below average, I still find this ample space for my music and film collection along with load of graphic textures for 3D modeling and loads of games installed, however the hard drive is upgrade able with no issues (providing you use windows XP)
Never really had any problems with the laptop, other than the occasional Virus, that was sorted out by AVG though (which i would also highly recommend), I did have a problem a couple of months ago where it would get the BSOD (blue screen of death) but this turned out to be a disk problem and a quick windows check disk solved this.
This laptop could be for two audiences, Either your film addict which wants a laptop that can plug straight into a HDMI port and show high quality movies or Bluray, or your typical gamer who wants a laptop instead of a big bulky PC unit! other audiences may be 3D designers or Photo shoppers.
If you want speed and high quality then this is for you, but only if you have a copy of windows XP.
