      Disadvantages

      Cheap but unreliable

In the past year, if I have had two of these Russell Hobbs hand mixers as I love to bake and was after an appliance that perfect my cakes and for a short time, this mixer did just that.

With 6 speeds to choose from and purchased for only £12 (trusty Amazon!), it really does seem too good to be true and to some extent it is. The cakes I did make with this were truly beautiful, light and fluffy. The buttercream was perfect (if I do say so myself) and no amount of good old elbow grease could really compare to the flawless results of using the hand mixer. It saves a lot of time and is so simple to use not to mention easy to clean; all you need to do is pop the blades from the appliance and clean in soapy water. No mess, no fuss, really simple.

The only problem, and a big problem for me, is the short amount of time that the appliance worked for. After about 10 uses, the blades started clashing with each other and were out of sync. I contacted Amazon who were fantastic and sent me a new one within a couple of days. After using my newest one for a few months, the same thing happened again which was really disappointing. I know it was only a cheap purchase, but I did expect a little longer shelf life than what it gave me. I would recommend that if you are an avid baker then it may be worthwhile investing in a more expensive and reliable hand mixer. However, for the short time that the mixer(s) worked they really did produce some great results!

Perfect little fryer for all your frying needs!

Lets start with the technicalities............ The Breville VDFO34 has the capacity for 3 litres of oil and 1 kilogram of food. With an easy to use temperature control function, allowing a greater choice and flexibility for all your frying needs. Once the required temperature is selected, the indicator light will illuminate indicating that the oil has reached the required temperature for frying. The fryer is really easy to dissemble which is important for cleaning and changing the oil. I would definitely recommend for extra tasty food, always make sure you replace the oil to ensure a nice crispness/freshness.

If you choose to purchase this product, the Box Contents include........
      1 x Deep Fryer
      1 x Fryer Lid
      1 x Enamel Bowl
      1 x Instruction Booklet
      1 x One Year Manufacturer's Warranty

I bought my Breville from Amazon because the price was second to none. (I do love amazon for all my electrical products!) The product is fairly (dare i say it) stylish? or at the bare minimum inoffensive if you choose to leave this item out on the kitchen side. It is compact too so can easily fit into a kitchen cupboard if you like minimalistic kitchen worktops.

Now whilst frying may not be the health conscious cooking method of choice, you really can't beat some home cooked fish and chips!! There are some great recipes online and you will be surprised how great your own will taste and how much cheaper it will be compared to the chippy. I have experimented with mine making my own samosas, onion bhajis and onion rings...... delicious.

It is a very basic fryer, but if you are like me, just cooking for the family, you don't really need much more. Safer than a chip pan, but makes cracking chips! Easy to clean, simple to use, reasonably priced......... great basic fryer!

Perfect for removing make up quickly and effectively

Now I don't have children so I can't possibly comment on the usefulness of these wipes on babies bottoms, however Huggies Pure baby wipes have become my new best friend in the mission to remove stubborn make up from my sensitive skin.

We all know how important it is to remove your make up before bed, but sometimes (depending how much of the stuff is plastered onto my face) it is just so much effort after a long hard day. I have tried a variety of wipes designed specifically at removing make-up, which in my opinion have all been overpriced and overrated! I have quite sensitive skin so I have to be careful what I can use as some products can leave my skin feeling very dry, tight and flaky.

I stumbled across these wipes in my local Home Bargains and thought I would try them as a make up artist friend of mine recommended using baby products on my skin as it is so sensitive. I paid 99p (can't beat the price bargain hunters!) and am really happy with the quality and effectiveness of the wipes in removing make up. Unlike some other leading baby wipes, these Huggies Pure have stayed moist even towards the end of the packet. The quality of the wipe is superb, it is a thick and moist wipe that cleanses and cleans even the most sensitive skin. I have recommended this product to all my friends as a make up remover as it is so cheap and removes even the most waterproof of all mascaras! Definitely a dessert island must have item!

A mascara that creates defined and dramatic eyes for a bargain price!

I have struggled over the years to find the perfect mascara; I've tried everything from the high end 'posh' ones (or rip off ones, whichever way you want to look at it), to the cheap and nasty ones that clump all your eyelashes together (somehow making your eyes ache!) but finally I have found my perfect mascara.

One of my friends recommended this mascara and to be honest, I thought she was just being a little dramatic when she talked of how great it was. I have never been a Maybelline fan, I have tried a few of their products and they didn't sit well on my skin so I didn't have much hope for the mascara especially as it was so inexpensive. The mascara really is lovely if you like big, dramatic eyelashes but without the horrible clumping that you tend to get with some products. Apply with the curved wand to define and shape your eyes in a way that I have never managed with another mascara. The colour is very black so if you have a very light complexion and prefer brown mascara shades then I wouldn't recommend this product. With just one coat, eyelashes look thicker, longer and to an extent 'false' but not too much. To really create the false eyelash effect, I would recommend applying a couple of layers of Falsies and you can create the same effect as if you were wearing false lashes.

The only negative comment I have about this product, is that the best application is when the mascara is brand new as it tends to deteriorate after a couple of months. However, as it is so reasonably priced (and there are always offers to be had within the supermarkets/beauty stores - make sure you shop around) the positive definitely outweighs the negative.

            Disadvantages

A hair styling product that boosted my confidence!

All I can say is thank goodness for GHD's!! I bought my first pair almost 10 years ago and I went from a geeky teenager with wild hair to a geeky teenager with smooth, sleek, straight hair. It really was a miracle! Since then, I have discovered that not only do GHD's straighten hair beautifully, they can also be used to add volume, subtle waves or gorgeous barrel curls. I genuinely could not imagine life without my trusty GHD's.

A word of warning, the straighteners are fantastic but you need to ensure that you protect your hair from heat damage. There are an array of heat protection sprays, serums and treatments on the market which is essential when applying such extreme heat to your hair. Even when using heat protection, overuse of any straightening device may cause dry and damaged hair which can lead to hair appearing out of shape and difficult to style even with the use of GHD's. As tempting as it is to use them everyday, I would advise to only use straightners when necessary; if your not going out or don't need fabulous hair, give your hair a break and you will see the benefits next time you decide to straighten your hair. Alternatively, make sure you condition your hair each time you wash it and try a few leave in or overnight treatments to restore your hair.

An excellent tip I learnt from my hairdresser is whilst straightening, section your hair using clips and use a comb whilst straightening going from root to tip. The comb ensures a smooth and sleek appearance to the finish and you can pick on up for less than £1.00 in most supermarkets. Try it and you will see the difference.

I would advise you to shop around for the best deal with this product; there are definitely some bargains to be had on some of the internet. Some websites such as Cheap Smells and Look Fantastic offer a really competitive price with the addition of free ghd accessories such as sectioning hair clips, ghd heat protection spray or a heat protection mat.

Whilst it may be tempting to opt for a cheaper straightener, you will not see the same result as you will with the GHD. I have had this pair of GHD's for 4 years and they are still going strong. I paid £99.00 for them and when you work it out (if you are really quite sad like me), it equates to around 6 pence a day.
