      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Wide range of features for a reasonable price, available in a wide range of colours

I got this camera in an exchange for my previous, shoddy camera. This camera was 90 pounds from Boots when I bought it about 3 months ago, however I have since been sent an e-mail from the money saving company Groupon with a discount to get this for 50 pounds!

      THE VITALS
This camera has a 14.2 megapixel sensor and 5 x optical zoom. The zoom is so easy to use, it is a little knob on the shutter button which you just pull or push to zoom in or out. It has a 3 inch touch screen which is really easy to use and not too sensitive which I like. It has digital image stabilisation, a vertical sliding lens cover and easy web upload. It comes with many different flash modes, which include Red-eye removal OFF : Auto, Forced Flash, Suppressed Flash, Slow Synchro. Red-eye removal ON : Red-eye Reduction Auto, Red-eye Reduction & Forced Flash, Suppressed Flash, Red-eye Reduction & Slow Synchro.
The photography functions include Face Detection, Photobook assist, Image search, Erase selected frames, Slide show, Auto red-eye removal, Protect, Crop, Resize, Image rotate, Mark for upload, Multi-frame playback, Dual image display, Favourite and Panorama. It has an internal memory size of 38 MB. It is very easy to switch between the still image and video functions, by simply pressing a button next to the shutter button. The camera does not take batteries, but comes with a rechargeable battery which makes life a whole lot easier! You simply take the battery out of the camera, pop it into the plug provided and plug it in. I give the functions 9/10.

      DESIGN
This camera is so pretty! I have to admit, the fact that it was bright pink and shiny was the main reason I bought it. It comes in six different colours: pink, purple, silver, black, blue and red. It looks like an envelope when the shutter is closed. The thing that I don't like is the sliding shutter often slides down when it is in my bag, so it is probably best to purchase a case with this camera. However, it does it make extremely easy to turn on and off. I give the design 8/10 (subtract 2 for it always 'unsliding' in my bag)

      IMAGE QUALITY
I have to say, the image quality is a bit hit and miss in my experience. I tend to have the camera on the auto function, which is supposed to select the best function based on the conditions of the current environment you are in. Outdoor pictures are usually great, but indoor ones can be a bit blurred. I should probably have a bit more of a play with the different features to find the best one, but if you are like me and just want to 'shoot and go', then you're probably better of getting a more basic camera. I give the image quality 6/10.

      UPLOAD
There is a way to upload pictures directly from this camera to the computer without the need for wires, as stated in the functions section, which is meant to be easy, but I have not worked it out yet! Perhaps this is because I am a simpleton. There is also a way to upload the pictures to Facebook directly from the camera. However, I just use the cord and plug it in, or take the memory card out the camera and put it in the computer, I find this much simpler and it is very quick. I give ease of upload 5/10 (only because I havn't worked out this elusive easy web sharing feature yet!)

Overall, I really like this camera and would certainly recommend it. It has such a vast number of features that I would say this is probably best for somebody who is bothered with using them! Rather than paying nearly 100 pounds like me when you're not using them (or perhaps use the Groupon voucher to get it for 50 pounds instead).

Excellent place to eat and drink whilst overlooking the stunning newquay scenery

I have just returned from a two night stay in Newquay. Where as I did not stay in this hotel (we stayed in the travelodge across the road, and I wish I could review it on this site because it was just superb for a budget hotel) we did eat here twice and come for a drink.

The inside bar is huge and very spacious. It had a long, wrap around bar, a pool table and plenty of seating. The bar over looks the fantastic coastline and it is just lovely to sit by the window whilst having a drink or a bite to eat. There is also an outside terrace which would be amazing to sit out on and have a bite to eat in the summer, but it was far too chilly as this time of the year! It is situated at the edge of a cliff so you get stunning views.

The staff were very friendly. About an hour before our train home we arrived at the bar, this was about 11.30. They don't start making lunch until 12.00pm however the bar man had a word with the chef and it was no problem for them to cook us lunch slightly earlier! They were very polite, always smiling and wished us a safe journey.

The food was lovely. They have quite a varied menu for a gastro pub. This included baguettes, jacket potatos, burgers, sea food, steaks as well as a variety of 'favourites' such as home made lasagne. They also have a wide range of side orders (there chips are yummy!). I am a vegetarian and still had a decent choice. I ended up having a jacket potato with cheese for dinner which was lovely, perfectly cooked. Then for lunch the next day I had the cheese and chutney baguette with chips, it was very nice. It is very reasonably priced, my jacket was only around 4 pounds and the baguette with chips the same. The night we had dinner they had a steak night on, where you could get 2 steaks with all the trimmings (if that is the right word, vegetarian dosnt know what shes on about!) and a bottle of wine for 25 pounds. The drinks arnt cheap but not extortionate- about 3.30 for a pint which is what I would expect to pay in such a pub in a town like that (ie not a student town).

The location is ideal. It is about a 2 minute walk from the train station and central to all the other bars and shops. I would love to stay in the hotel here sometime!

easy to cook, healthy, low in fat yummy meals!

I have been a veggie all my life, but up until fairly recently I was a veggie that didnt like vegetables! In the past year or so I have been discovering ways I can eat more veg and have found I really enjoy them now, especially when incorporated into a yummy meal, such as spag bol! I am a university student and am trying to eat healthier on the cheap, so when I saw this mince on offer for a pound at Asda I decided to give it ago (it has now gone up to 1.89 which is still very good).

For those of you who don't know, quorn is a meat substitute extracted from a fungus (dosn't sound very appetising does it, but trust me it is yummy). It is very low in fat and calories, so even if you are not a vegetarian, if you are looking to loose a bit of weight simply swap the meat in your regular meals (such as spag bol, chilli or cottage pie) for quorn to save loads of calories - when mixed in with other ingredients many meat eaters I know cannot tell the difference. In the standard frozen bag you get 300g, although you can buy it fresh with 350g or a frozen family bag with 500g.

My mum has been using quorn mince for ages now and even though I enjoy it I used to always turn my nose up at it when she suggested it for dinner (I am a very fussy eater and never seemed to fancy it) however now I live alone I have discovered I love it in a spag bol. It takes about 15 minutes to cook- I fry it in a pan, then add some peppers onion and garlic then chopped tomato and then throw it over a plate of spaghetti and top with cheese, divine!

Quorn is full of protein and other nutrients, so to all the meat eaters who bang on about how meat provides us with all our essential nutrients and therefore veggies must be lacking-well they are quite simply wrong! I recommend everyone try this product, veggie or not. If you are a veggie with a meat eater in the family who turns their noses up at such products- I suggest you cook them a meal with a quorn product in without telling them and see if they notice, I bet they don't!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Excellent foundation at a reasonable price, smooth and even coverage, lasts all day

Throughout my teenage years I spent years looking for the perfect foundation. Inevitably, each one would leave me with streaky/orange/patchy skin. I have a very fair complexion and even the 'nude' shades of foundation are far too dark for me. Then I came across Maybelline Matte Mousse foundation. I was drawn in by the many adverts it had at the time (around 4 years ago when I began using it) because it was an innovation! Liquid foundations clearly wern't for me so I decided to give it a go. I have never gone back!

The foundation is advertised as "Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse is a revolutionary whipped formula, providing an air-soft, perfect matte finish coverage, with a weightless feel." The product also claims to prevent caking and blend effotlessly to give an even look.

This foundation is not exactly cheap but it is reasonable at £7.49 currently in Boots (compare that with about 30 quid for Benefit and its a bargain) and you can often find these on offer- they often do a 3 for 2. The foundation comes in 13 different shades, so there should be a shade for the majority of people out there. You get around 18g of the product, and the pot does look tiny, however a little really does go a long way with this. It comes in a small, round glass container with a screw lid so it is easy to carry in your handbag.

The application is effortless. No need for sponges or brushes, all you need is your fingers. To apply, I put two of my middle fingers around the top of the mousse gently, no need to scoop it out, and then begin to apply it under my eyes and smooth it out over my cheeks. I then simply dap a little more on my chin and forehead and blend with my fingers for an even coverage. And ta-da, that is all. My skin looks flawless. I use the 'ivory' shade but have used the champagne shade when ivory is out of stock and I find it to be just as good a match to my skin. Because of its matte finish, there is not really any need to use a powder, although I personally do apply it because I find this makes my makeup last longer.

I use this product daily, I often go out with minimal make up but always make sure I am wearing this foundation if nothing else. If I were to get stuck on a desert island, this is the one product I would want with me! (In regards to makeup in any case!). It lasts me the whole day, however if I am going out in the evening I will top it up a tad. I probably have to buy this product around once every 9/10 weeks so it does last.

I would 100 percent recommend this product. I could never go back to a liquid foundation now as they are too difficult to apply if you want to be streak free, where as it is pretty darned difficult to get any streaks at all with matte mousse.

Think twice before buying this- exposure rubbish, no internal memory

I recieved this camera for my birthday In December, and today have just gone to exchange it for another. I was very unhappy with this product so thought I would write a review to let others know of my experiences with it.

Firstly, a bit about the camera itself. It comes in many different colours (as far as I am aware it comes in silver, black, blue, pink and red and a white goldish colour), has 16 megapixels and a 5x optical zoom as well as capturing high resolution images in a 16:9 format. It has many different features which include blink detection, face detection, smile and shoot, and red eye removal. The camera comes with an auto mode which is supposedly meant to detect the shooting conditions, for example night or day, indoor or outdoor and adapt the settings accordingly. The camera allows the user to change the picture colour to black and white and sepia too get a bit of a different twist on your photos. You can also create videos which capture high resolution images in a 16:9 format. My camera cost 79.99 from Boots but prices do vary depending on where you go, I have seen it for as little as 65 pounds on Amazon.
The camera comes with the following shooting modes: Portrait, Baby, Smile, Landscape, Panorama, Sport, Night, Night (Tripod), Fireworks, Sunset, Snow, Beach, Party, Flower, Text which can be found under the SP mode. To the right of the camera is the mode dial, in which you will find the other shooting modes: SR AUTO, AUTO, Natural Light, Natural Light & with Flash, SP1, SP2, Movie, P. The mode dial makes it very easy to switch between modes in an instance. The camera is fairly small and compact and weighs in at 113 grams. The accessories it comes with are a Li-ion battery NP-45A, Battery charger BC-45C, plug adapter , USB cable, hand strap and CD-ROM Owner's manual. The images are easy to upload to the computer, literally takes a matter of seconds, and the battery slots into a seperate plug socket which makes it very easy to charge. The LCD screen is big enough at 2.7 inches and takes up the majority of the camera.

Now a little about my experience. I do not require an excellent camera because I only wish to use it for amateur shots on days/nights out. As long as it takes decent photos, I am happy! Previous to this camera, I had a much cheaper one (cannot remember the model or make) which cost around 50 pounds and the quality was fine, much better than the jx350 anyway! I would have thought, for a camera in this price range, I would be getting far better quality photos.

To begin, when I first opened the camera, I was expecting to be able to use it right away. However, this camera has absolutely no internal memory whatsoever, which was not made clear at all. So I then had to go out and spend another ten pounds on getting a memory card. I then used the camera on my birthday night out. When I got back and looked at the photos, some of them were of awful quality, and I just put this down to me not being able to use the camera properly and having it on the wrong setting. However, when I next used the camera I was having the same problem, so checked it out further. Some of the photos were coming out very dark, whilst others were exceptionally bright and the persons face was just a white blur. In both instances, the flash would be going off, however it seemed unable to get the exposure right. I tried every different setting possible, but too no avail. Every now and again a photo would come out okay, and it was fine in the daylight outdoors, but for use indoors or at night it was just plain useless. Now, I am not entirely sure whether this was a fault with the camera or whether the camera was just of poor quality. There do not seem to be many reviews online regarding this model so have been unable to decide whether the former or latter is true. However I would highly recommend buying a different camera if you are considering this one!

Today I went back to Boots with no receipt and the staff were happy to exchange the camera for me. I ended up paying 10 pounds more to get the fujifilm z90 which has just come out, it looks sleek and so far seems to be a much better quality camera! When I have used it a lot more I will write a review on this.

The fuji cameras come with a year warranty and you are advised to register your camera on their website to make insurance claims easier and more efficient.

A super easy way to get awesome patterned nails

I received several of these nail varnishes for christmas in purple, green and silver and it also comes in blue. I had heard of them before but wasn't too sure of what to expect, so keen to experiment I applied the purple colour as soon as I opened it.

You apply the varnish like your standard nail polish, and you only need one coat which is a plus. The lid of the nail varnish is the magnet, you take this off and underneath is the standard nail polish brush. Doing one nail at a time, apply a coat of the polish, and then hover the lid over your nail. The lid comes with a little ledge which you can use to rest on your finger just under your nail. You leave this still for around 10 seconds, and then you're nails are left with a wave like effect. Just be careful not to catch your nail with the magnet as this will ruin the look. It is really simple but effective and looks really professional. It is advised that you apply a clear top coat once they have completely dried for prolonged wear.

The effect is created because the nail polish contains fine metal particles, and when the magnet is applied the particles are pulled into a wavy pattern. Each tub contains 10 ml and costs £5.99 each. They really are great value for money, as I also received a magnetic polish brought out by The Saturdays (the girl band) which costs £6 for the polish, but you have to purchase the magnet seperately which is an additional 3 pounds! And it is exactly the same as the no 17 one.

I really recommend this product as it does work very well and is far cheaper then other brands. I can't wait to test the other colours.

One final note, my nails did chip after a day but then I did not apply a top coat like they recommend, and no matter what nail varnish I use I always manage to chip it so it is likely this is my own fault rather than the products!

          Very reliable, solid little phone

After just getting over the grief of my lovely blackberry dying on me, i thought I'd write a review to let others know just what a great little phone it was/is!

Now, I'm just going to start with the fact this phone lasted me two whole years...yes yes, not excellent of course, but I do not have a good track record with phones and all others have lasted under a year. Also, if getting this phone on contract, 2 years is the longest you will have this phone for anyway. It has a rubber material all around the edges, so it is well protected from droppings, it almost bounces back up.

Of course, compared to many smart phones these days, this phone is a little basic as it's not as young as it once was. However, it has more than enough features to keep you going. Although I very rarely used blackberry messenger, I found this was the app I most missed as it is very handy when wanting to send a quick message for free. The amount of applications available does not seem to be as vast as the amount available on Apple and Android, but never the less there are still a very wide range for you to choose from. My personal favourite was the app for having different coloured LED lights for notifications, I very much miss this feature on my HTC.

The track pad is very easy to use, just be careful not to use it with sticky fingers. The qwerty keypad takes a lot of getting used to but once you do, it becomes second nature and I personally find it easier to use than a touch screen.

The camera is not great, and it does not have a flash, however most people have a camera these days anyway. I liked the fact you can upload any picture straight to facebook from your phone to share with your friends and family. You can also store up to 16 GB worth of data on it with an SD memory card. This phone is 120 pounds at the carphone warehouse on pay as you go, but you can get it for free on most 15 pound per month contracts.

The only thing which annoyed me about this phone was the fact that it often kept freezing, so I would have to take the battery out: once you do this the phone takes a long time to start back up, probably around 10 minutes. It was most likly to do this whilst attempting to take a picture, but to be fair this phone had taken so much abuse from me this was most likely my own fault rather than a manufacturer one.

Overall this is a very reliable phone which only ceased to work due to my own doings, after spilling water on it for the 10th or so time. Good for a first time smartphone or for those who do not feel comfortable with a touchscreen, or those who just don't want to pay a fortune.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Very sad story but totally rivetting and inspirational

If you have seen the film you must must must read this book, as the book is ten times better than the film! The book has a major twist at the end which I for one was certainly not expecting-this twist was left out of the movie. I have read this book 3 times, each time it is still just as moving as the time before. The book is written in the perspectives of Anna, her mother and father, brother and lawyer, and it is the way in which Picoult effectively manages to write from different points of view which makes her my favourite author, as fans of hers will know she uses this style of writing in most if not all of her books. Follow the story of Kate, who suffers from Leukimia, and her family as they under go a fierce court case as Anna, her sister, fights for the rights to her own body.

Cute phone, perhaps best for personal use rather than business

I admit I did not do my research prior to purchasing this phone. Where as I normally spend weeks trawling the internet, reading reviews on a number of different phones, this time it was simply not possible. Upon checking my trusty old Blackberry for texts when leaving a lecture, it just would not work. Thankfully for me I was due an upgrade, and despite the fact I was originally going to wait for my contract to expire, I found myself with no choice.

HTC is only a recent name to me, I only first heard about this brand in the summer whilst working in a phone shop. My contract is with Orange but I have always gone through Phones4U. The very camp and enthusiastic salesman, after telling him my preferences, was very quick to recommend the HTC Wildfire S as my ideal phone. At 26 pounds a month for 24 months, 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 750 mb of internet, I was getting a far better deal than previously, but what about the features, I wondered? Well, he explained, this is paramount to a mini Iphone! Running on Android, you get many of the same or similar apps as Apple, has regular weather updates on the home screen, plus news and all of the other features you would expect from a mobile, all in one tiny white package. Sold!

I was fascinated by this phone, I honestly thought I would never be bored again thanks to the endless list of applications available. I immediately transferred my music onto it and downloaded Angry Birds. Happy days indeed. However, as time has gone on, I have realised this phone can not stand the test of time, shame really when I have it for another 23 months!

A month in, the screen is already scratched. I had a 'phone sock' for this phone, but on the one day I took it out without it the screen scratched, so 100 percent buy a case with this phone. The phone is lagging, constantly closing applications due to errors and needs charging twice a day at times, even though the usage is relatively low. I literally take it off charge at 10am, send a few texts and the battery will be on orange by 4pm! Overall I would suggest this is a phone for people who would love a smartphone but who arn't too bothered about its performance, and I personally don't worry about that too much as I havn't had any better phones prior to this.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Amazing at lengthening eyelashes without all the fuss of applying false eyelashes

I first spotted fibrelash in Boots many months ago, and whilst always being intrigued by it I assumed it would never live up to the bold claims it makes about being false lashes in a tube. I am a regular wearer of false eyelashes but often they are a pain to apply, but fibrelash is not cheap (35 pounds in Boots) so I was reluctant, however I relented and asked for them for christmas.

I have to admit that when I opened the product, it was nothing that I expected, however I do not think that many people would know what to expect from a new product such as this! You get two tubes: The first, bigger tube is a black mascara similar to most others, the product packaging claims that this helps to clean the lashes, and it is this which the fibres will stick to. The second, small tube is full of the fibres, the best way to describe it is that it looks like dust all over a mascara brush.

The instructions are on the back of the box and are relatively straight forward. You first apply the black mascara to your eyelashes as you would do with your regular mascara, then follow this by applying the fibres. You are advised to look down as you do this otherwise you may end up with fibres in your eyes. For best results, you leave the fibres to set for 30 seconds and then apply another coat of the black mascara. For a more dramatic look, you can repeat this process as many times as you like. I usually do this twice and the results are much better.

I am generally really happy with this product, the results were better than expected as I really didn't think it would work at all. My eyelashes look much longer, thicker and darker (my own are short stumpy and blonde) and the effect is far more extreme than any other mascara I have ever used. In my opinion, it does not give a false lash effect as such, but there is no doubting that my eyelashes look as though they have doubled in length. The only problem is, due to the high price I am reluctant to wear this everyday as I would not want to fork out so much money for mascara on a regular basis so will be saving it for special occasions and nights out, much as I would do with my regular false lashes. Also, I found applying this mascara actually takes me longer than applying false eyelashes, however it irradicates the fuss and fiddle completely. Overall a fab product and would recommend trying it for yourself.
