I purchased these flannelette flat cot sheets after buying the fitted jersey cot sheets and being very satisfied with them also.
These sheets are available from Mothercare and they come in a pack of two.You can buy them in a choice of two sizes;
cot/cot bed for £11.99
moses basket/crib/pram for £7.99
The sheets are available in the following colours;
white,cream,lemon,pink and blue.
I brought a pair of blue sheets for my son's cot at £12.These sheets are made from a brushed cotton material making them very soft to touch and therfore very comfortable for your child.I personally preferred to use the fitted sheets underneath my son as they covered the mattress perfectly and I used these flat sheets on top to cover him and provide extra layering under his blankets depending on the amount of warmth my son required. The fact that they are made of 100% cotton means that they are breatheable and therefore more appropriate for mothers who worry about their child getting too warm.
I found that these sheets when washed at 40 degrees as recommended by Mothercare were very easy to maintain as they did not fade in colour and nor did they bobble despite heavy usage. The only downside I found was that they were slightly highly priced otherwise I would have given these sheets a full 5 stars.
I brought this terry waterfroof flatsheet for my daughters single bed when I was trying to potty train her.I purchased it from Mothercare for £15 but you can also buy the cot bed size at £13 too.
The sheet is a flat sheet that has a terry towel material on top of a water proof membrane layer underneath. It is a flat sheet so it is versatile in that you can use it either directly on top af your childs normal bed sheet or underneath it so it is placed directly on top of your childs mattress.I personally placed it directly on top of my daughter's bed sheet as the terry towel material was very soft and comfortable to sleep on.The waterproof membrane underneath impressed me as unlike traditional waterfroof plastic sheets there was no rustling so was more comforting. If my daughter did have an accident at night I would take this sheet off in the morning and happily find that the under neath bed sheet was dry and clean.
This sheet washes well and has been durable in use,I would take it out of the washing machine and hang it on the line with the underside up first and then turn it over after a short while so that the terry towel side could then dry normally.
I found the cost of this waterfroof sheet a bit expensive but the fact that it lasted me through not one potty training child but three meant that it has certainly paid for itself.Like they say you have to pay a bit more if you want quality and it applies well here.
I used this swaddling blanket on my son up until he was six weeks old as I found the conventional grobags too large for my son as he appeared to be lost inside them.
Swaddling grobag blankets are T shaped in design so very easy to wrap your child up in as you simply place your newborn on the vertical section and then wrap each end around each of your childs arms.I found that this convenient and simple wrapping mechanism was very effective in comforting my son and helped him to settle down a lot more easily and remain asleep for much longer. The abrupt jerking movements that he used to make in his sleep that would then cause him to wake up were now stopped by this swaddling blanket that was wrapped comfortably around him.
The grobag swaddling blanket that I brought for my son was a very lightweight material and the fact that it was made of a stretchier material meant that when wrapping it around my son the fit was nice and snug.Washing and drying was also very easy because it was so lightweight and despite continuous use it did not loose it's shape either.
I brought mine online for £10 which I found a bit pricy but it's practicality in use made it worthwhile. They come in a variety of colours and sizes but I found that the newborn swaddling blanket worked best because as my son grew older he managed to wriggle out a lot more easily making it less effective in use.
I would recommend to anyone who is in favour of swaddling to use this on their newborn for a more content sleeping experience and that includes mum too!!!
Whilst I was in hospital after the birth of my youngest son I realised that the blankets I had packed in my baby's hospital bag were no way as effective as the ones the midwives had wrapped my son up in.After enquiring I found out that they were actually cellular cotton blankets and my son seemed much more content in these as they were preventing him from wriggling about as much. When I tried to swaddle him up in the frilly shawls and fleecy blankets that I had brought for him he would wriggle his tiny hands and arms out in no time.
Cellular blankets are generally made of cotton and the tiny gaps that appear as a result of the criss cross stitching means that theyare more breatheable and therfore more comfortable for your child to be wrapped up in.I personally prefer the stretchy cellular blankets as they are more effective if you are swaddling your child by keeping them snuggly restrained and therefore asleep much longer.
These blankets come in a variety of sizes but the fact that they are so lightweight means that even the larger blankets do not weigh too much and are easy to handle. They are very easy to maintain and I am constantly washing mine as they are very easy to dry once they have been spun in the washing machine. These blankets are very durable and although physically not that attractive to the naked eye they are extremely practical so I keep on coming back to using these. All the pretty blankets and shawls I spent so much money on are just lying about redundant as I only use them when I have to take my son out and about to cover him up in his pram.
I would definately recommend that you add this blanket to your essential baby's shopping list as for me they are indispensible. They retail for around £5-£10 depending on where you buy from ie. local baby shop or somewhere like Mothercare.
This is a review for the cotton jersey fitted bed sheets by Mothercare that I brought for my son's cot.
DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT:
These cotton jersey fitted bed sheets are sold in Mothercare and come in a pack of two.The price ranges from £7.99-£13.99 depending on the size you choose as illustrated below,
Moses basket - £7.99
Travel cot - £9.99
Crib - £9.99
The sheets come in a range of 5 colours of,white, cream, lemon, blue and pink.
They are described as being made from 100% cotton and can be washed at 40 degrees and also tumble dried.
I brought these sheets for my youngest son who is now 10 months old just after he grew out of his moses basket. These fitted cot sheets although seemed pricy to me at the time have definately given me their value back in usage. The selling point of these sheets is it's stretchy jersey cotton material which snugly fits around my son's mattress and stays perfectly in place. These sheets are very soft to touch and feel comfortable next to my baby's skin giving him a more relaxing sleeping experience.I particularly like the fact that they are so durable as after so much washing they have still not lost their shape and are still a perfect fit around the mattress. They have also not bobbled over time and neither have I noticed any significant fading in their colour.
I would recommend these sheets as they are durable, practical and easy to maintain and the good overall quality in design justifies the slightly higher price.
Grobags are great sleeping aids for letting your baby have a comfortable nights sleep and in return it means that the parents are also relieved of sleepless nights.
Grobags are actually an all-in-one blanket/shawl/duvet that you would use when normally putting your child to sleep. They are slightly pear-shaped in design, the top half is more like a sleevless top with popper fastenings at the shoulders whilst the bottom half is wider and has a zip fastening that goes all the way round that part. The practicality of this is that my son was able to kick about as much as he liked when asleep but not be left uncovered as a result which would normally lead him to wake up due to feeling cold.
They come in a variety of sizes ranging from newborn upto 18 months and also in a variety of materials depending on the season in question. With respect to the season they more importantly come in a number of different tog sizes ranging from 2-4 tog rating.I personally brought the 4.5 tog Grobags as it was winter when I was using them on my son.
The main advantage I found with using Grobags instead of traditional blankets and duvets is their safety.Little babies wriggle about a lot and with the risk of cot-death no wonder these are highly recommended by cot-death research analysts. With reference to my son I found that on the few occassions I hadn't put him to sleep in his Grobag his feet would get caught up in the cot bars so for me the Grobag was a God send.
Would recommend to anyone who is either expecting a newborn or already has one.
I brought this fleece blanket from Mothercare for my son just before he was born. They come in two sizes and two shades,a blue and a yellow for colour selection and a cot size or crib size for size selection. The price for the crib size is £7.99 and the cot size cots £11.99.I personally brought the blue crib/moses basket size as I knew I was expecting a boy.
The blanket is made of 100% polyester and can be machine washed at 40 degrees and also tumble dries. The fleece material is very soft to touch and it was a pleasure wrapping my son up in it,as I knew it would feel very cozy next to his skin.
Maintaining its appearance is this blankets selling point as I am continuously washing it,as it is a fleecy material it does not bobble and once it has been washed it is almost 75% dry which means it dries in no time. This is a very versatile and practical blanket that I have got much use out of so I would say it was worth every penny I spent.I have used it both in the house in his crib and even when I was taking him out in his pram so it is a good all rounder.
For it's practicality and use fullness I will give it 5 stars.
I have been using Pampers bed mats for a while as my 8 year old daughter still has the occasional accident during the night. She stopped wearing a nappy during the day by the age of 2 years but trying to get her to stay dry at night has proved a lot more difficult but has got slightly better as she gets older.
She had been wearing pulls up until the last year as she would definately wet herself at least once a week even though she was taking tablets that the doctor prescribed for her.My daughter was very conscious about having this problem and would get upset whenever she did wet herself but I always tried to reassure her that she would grow out of it.
Following my doctors recommendation I had a word with the school nurse and she suggested that I stop the pull up pants and instead of using a plastic mattress protector to use these bed mats instead.I brought a packet from the local chemist for £4.50 for a pack of 7 which initially I thought were too expensive but considering that the bed wetting incidents have fallen sharply I'm not buying them as often anymore.
The bed mat is placed under the bed sheet and it has two long wings that you tuck under the mattress at each side preventing it from moving about if your child wriggles a lot in bed .They measure 80cm by 90cm so give you adequate coverage as long as you place it exactly under your child's bum position. These mats are very thin but is amazing to see how absorbent they actually are and the waterproof base layer means the mattress stays dry.
I found that although still not completely dry my daughter has improved a lot with her bed wetting problem since I have been using these bed mats. They do a great job at what they have been designed for so I would recommend these to any parent who like myself were sick of buying pull ups consistently.
I would like to review the new shaped Vaseline 100g tub that I purchased recently from Boots for £1.79.
Everyone is well familiar with this brand and even as a child I can remember it being used in our household. The traditional clear tub with a white rectangular lid and blue logo has been the hallmark of Vaseline for as long as my memory recalls.Recently when I ran out of this product and went to buy some more I was pleasantly surprised that the packaging had changed.I definately find this new design a great improvement as this new flip lid design is so much more convenient. It easily opens giving quick access to the jelly and requires minimal effort to close back again. The container is a lot more contoured so making it easier to hold in the palm of your hands.I buy the smaller sized tubs as getting your finger down a more larger empty tub would prove too tricky and messy also.
As for the product itself the fact that it has been around for well over 100 years speaks for itself.I use it personally as a lip balm first and foremost as nothing else works as well on my extremely dry lips. Then it works as an excellent moisturizer as it is natural and free from added chemicals which I need as I have sensitive dry skin. The smell and taste is the only complaint I have but after using it for so many years I've become used to it now.
I also use it on my 9 month old son as a moisturizer when I give him a baby massage after his bath and as a barrier cream it works well for treating his nappy rash.My husband uses it to treat the hard and dry skin he has on his heels and also for the dry cuticle skin around his nails as nothing else treats it as well as Vaseline does.
I would definately recommend this for any household and the new packaging gives this product a very fresh and more up to date image.
After being hugely disappointed by the performance of Huggies newborn nappies I was looking for a nappy that wouldn't leak.
I brought Pampers New Baby size 2 mini economy pack of 62 nappies when they were on offer at Tesco,at the moment they are retailing at a normal price of £9.98 but whenever they are on offer I would advise to stock up.
They come in a yellow and green vacuum packed carry pack and as soon as you pick it up from it's weight you wouldn't think that there would be so many nappies as they are in it.The size is for 3-6 kg and my son being of average weight used these up until he was 2 and a half months old.
Now for the performance, well these nappies are a lot better at keeping my son dry especially as I now do not have to get up in the middle of the night to change him as the Huggies nappies would not last through the night.I liked the fact that they are so soft to touch reassuring me that my son would be comfortable in it.These nappies do not bulge too much either when that need changing and once removed you immediately notice the difference as my son's skin was actually dry.
The only negative point would be that they are more expensive than other brands but then I believe the price is justified when considering the added benefits and quality you are paying for.
I have used Huggies nappies on all my three older children and after an 8 year gap when I became pregnant again with my youngest son I didn't think twice before using all my money off coupons that I received through the numerous mum's to be clubs that I signed up for to stock up on Huggies newborn nappies.
As far as my memory recalls I found the quality of these nappies to be a lot better on my older kids than this time round. These nappies for some reason have fallen in quality in a big way and it surprises me as Huggies are such a major brand name. The main problem is that they leak to put it simply....if I laid my baby down flat on his back to sleep when he would wake up the urine would have crept halfway up his back.If I laid him on his side,he'd be wet all the way upto his armpit and this would prevent him from sleeping properly and he'd be up in no time.Personally for me the worst bit was that on a few occasions whilst I was breast feeding him the urine would pour out as though he wasn't wearing a nappy at all!!!
I am very disappointed with the performance of these nappies and have therefore switched to another brand as not only is a leaking nappy uncomfortable for my child but also causes me additional inconvenience that I can well do without being a mother to 3 other children.Save yourself time and money by staying away from these nappies.
I was introduced to Sudocrem about 16 years ago with the birth of my eldest son and have been using it ever since.Initially I was using it as a nappy rash cream for my eldest son and I found it to be the most effective product on the market for this particular purpose.I therefore carried on using it on my subsequent children but with the addition of each child I found that it worked for a great variety of things and was not just confined to nappy rashes. My second child suffered from eczema and this cream worked very effectively on her.I was a bit reluctant to use it on her as I perceived that the antiseptic qualities of this cream may be a little too strong for her delicate skin but my sister, who's son suffered from severe eczema was adamant that I should give it a try and I'm ever grateful to her that I did. This cream not only soothed the itching element but also prevented it from spreading further and the antiseptic quality actually minimized the redness and any scarring that would normally result from her constant itching.
Last year I went on holiday to south Asia in the summer and took this cream with me and it was a life saver. As the weather was so hot and humid, mosquitoes were in their abundance and when you were out and about in the evening despite being covered up they always got to your feet.I kept this cream in the fridge so when I applied it,it would not only soothed the itching but also gave a cooling effect that would make it more effective in working on the mosquito bites.
Now with the recent birth of my youngest son I am back to buying it more frequently but for the last 16 years I can't imagine a time where it has not been in the house.I buy the 250g tub for £3.50 and it is good value for money particularly considering all the benefits it has and it's multipurpose use. From a tiny scratch,a deep cut, a teenage spot,an insect bite or my youngest son's nappy rash everyone in our house is reaching for it so therefore cannot imagine life without it.
My 9 month old has been pushing his fist into his mouth since he was born so I assumed he would be an early teether however much to my surprise his first tooth is just now showing signs of emerging.I went out and brought him this brand as I use CALPOL for whenever he has a fever so I thought I'd give CALGEL a try aswell. My son seems to be in discomfort and when he starts to cry I know his gums are giving him problems. The gel comes in a handy tube and is easy to apply .It looks a lot like Bongela and I apply it to his bottom gum where he is showing signs of teething. It's easy to apply and appears to work because my son stops crying relatively quickly after it is applied.Considering it costs £2 to buy and the fact that it finishes so quickly I would say it is a bit expensive for such a small tube but then considering the fact it works for my son and eases his discomfort I think it is money well spent.Works for my son so will recommend to other parents of teething babies.
When I was expecting my son I brought this product as my previous monitor had stopped working after lasting me through 3 children.I didn't want to spend too much as I knew I would not be needing it in the future for anymore children This monitor cost me £25 so I thought it was a cheap buy but was hoping it would perform well also.As of today I have no complaints as I am amazed at how clear the voice quality is on this monitor,I can even hear my baby breathing if I pay attention closely so it definately gives me added peace of mind when he is upstairs sleeping alone in his cot. This stops me from having to constantly keep on checking up on him.The flashing lights feature is very good as it also displays visually when your childs woken up.The green lights quickly shoot upto red when your child starts to cry.The only disadvantage is that you are limited in where you can place the monitor as it is plugged in so wherever you go you are searching for a socket nearby.Apart from this I cannot fault the working of the machine and would stress that it's audible clarity is un matchable at this price.
I brought this for my son from ASDA because it appeared to be very good value for money as other bedding sets on the market were costing me three times as much. When I was buying it I was wondering if I would have to compromise on the quality of the material as a result but thankfully after washing it several times I can say that it has neither lost it's shape, faded in colour or even bobbled. The material is very soft and feels very good next to your skin.It fits my son's cot perfectly and looks very appealing to the eye and co ordinates with the rest of the blue theme in his bedroom.I also brought the matching cot mobile too to complete the overall look.I would definately recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great value bedding set to buy.it is cheap, great quality, has a great embroidered design and looks lovely on the cot.It also comes with additional accessories to buy if you want to complete the effect.
