After being on Dooyoo for almost a year, collecting three of those little yellow pointy hats, I feel that it is time that I should share some of what I have learned with my fellow community members. There are a lot of points that you have to remember when writing your opinions, if you want them to be good that is, so I shall do my best and try to explain them so that everyone can benefit. I feel I should explain why it is important to write really good opinions. If you write really good opinions you will gain a reputation for writing good opinions, which will draw people back to read more of your opinions. This will result in more Dooyoo miles if that is what you are on Dooyoo for. And if you are writing really good opinions you will have a good chance of earning the pointy hat of greatness (crown opinions, but I guess that was obvious). First of all, you should probably read the 'ethos', this gives you some fairly good advice on writing well, and it also tells you what and what not to do. This option can be accessed from your member profile, it is located at the bottom of the yellow column on the left-hand side of the page. I should point out that in my near one year on Dooyoo I have only checked this a few times and have still managed to write some good opinions, so this isn't essential. Then you should check out the 'tips on writing well', also accessed through your profile, you can find it just next to the 'ethos'. Clicking on this link will take you to the category that this opinion will be located in. I would recommend having a look at this. Only recently have I started looking at this to write good opinions, you literally see where I started using this option by the average ratings for my opinions, it really does help, so check it out. When looking at the 'tips for writing well', have a look at more than one. Remember, the opinions on the first page are the ones with the most reads, not
the best, so have a look about. This piece of advice is fairly straightforward, know what you are talking about. Simple huh? Even though it is fairly straightforward I do sometimes find opinions that the authors don't seem to know what they are talking about, so this is a simple yet important rule. DO NOT WRITE WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW!!! If you know about football, then that is what you should write about, if you know about wrestling, then write about that. People can tell if you don't know what you are talking about, and so they won't come back and read your opinions because you will gain the reputation of writing for money alone. On the subject of knowing what you are talking about, it is also a good idea to have experienced what you are writing about. Don't write opinions on a computer game if you have never played on it before, if you do this then the people on Dooyoo will soon realise that you have no experience about what you are writing about, and won't read any more of your opinions because they will feel that if you lie about one thing, then you could well be lying about other things too. Don't think that people won't notice, because there are a whole lot of smart people on Dooyoo who WILL catch you out. Even if you do know so much on a subject, if you go to write an opinion about that subject, make sure that you can write a good, decent, helpful opinion about it. Many times I have found myself going to write about something I know all about and then realising that I'm not sure what to put in the opinion. Now, unless you are really good at typing and spelling, I would recommend doing your opinion on a word processor, just to ensure that you don't make any silly spelling or grammar mistakes. The only problem with this is that when you copy and paste it onto Dooyoo, you must go through your opinion and change the following (that I know of): -, ' and ". I don't know why this h
appens, but if you don't change them they will all come out as question marks when you submit your opinion, making it harder for others to read. On the subject of spelling and grammar, do not use abbreviations such as u instead of you, or btw instead of by the way. These are ok to use in comments, but not in opinions. Despite being on the internet, Dooyoo isn't a chat room or what not, so avoid using such abbreviations as they show that you haven't tried with your opinion and they also imply that you rushed your opinion. This piece of advice is very important if you want a really, really good opinion. Plan your opinion, simple as that, if you plan your opinion then you can't go wrong by making silly mistakes such as repeating yourself. You only have to take an extra five minutes planning your opinion, and it really does make the difference. I like to plan my opinions paragraph by paragraph, but you may find that different methods may work better for you. The first thing that people see when it comes to your opinion is the title, since this is the first thing that people see, the title should be good enough to catch peoples eye. Once they have noticed your title, then the next thing they can see is the first fifteen odd words, so make this good as well. So you see, these two in combination are the key to getting and keeping the peoples interest, if these two aren't good enough, people won't read it, if however they are great, then you will find yourself getting a lot of reads. Remember, the whole point is to write good opinions, so don't just make the effort on your first couple of lines only to get peoples attention, make the effort for the whole of your opinion. Presentation is also very important. If people can't read your opinions very well, then they won't read them at all. It is also a good idea for you to make you opinions easy on the eyes, this will ensure that people will actual
ly read your opinion. When I say 'making it easy on the eyes', I don't mean having fancy italics and whatnot, I mean paragraphs. Not only paragraphs, but to make your opinion look good and easy to read you should leave a line between each paragraph. This really does help when reading opinions. Now it isn't important how long your opinions are, what is important is that it can help others to understand what you think on the given subject, so don't try to make your opinions really, really long. The minimum for an opinion is 75 words, if you feel you can get across your opinion in 75 words, then that will be good enough, don't feel the need to go over the top. Once your opinion is done, read through it again, I know that this may seem tiresome and boring, but it can be the difference between a useful and a very useful opinion. When reading through it try to consider the following: Have you managed to communicate your point clearly? If not go back and add to your opinion so that you do get the point across. Are there many or any typing errors or spelling mistakes? If there is, change them. The spelling errors are easy enough to eliminate, but look out for typing errors as they are hard to spot, errors such as typing their instead of there. Does it contain anything that could be considered offensive? Does it contain anything offensive such as racism or sexism, if so remove the offensive parts. Is the grammar good? This includes capitals, full stops, commas and so on, make sure these are actually there and in the right place. Once you have checked all this, then your opinion is free and clear to be thrown into the mass of opinions that Dooyoo has to offer. Remember that if you do your opinion on a word processor, go through your opinion again whilst it is on Dooyoo about to be submitted and change the ', - and " so that they don't appear as question marks. Now, I r
eally hate it when I read things that are meant to help me and all the main points are mixed in with masses of text. So now I shall put all my points here as bullet points just to help those people like me: Read the 'ethos' for beginner's advice. Read the 'tips for writing well' to find out how fellow Dooyoo maestro's write their opinions. Know and have some experience about what subject you are about to write about. Use a word processor if you aren't sure about your typing skills. Don't use abbreviations such as u, only use them for comments. Plan your opinion. Have a good title and opening fifteen words. Check your opinion for mistakes. Once you are about to put up your opinion, check it again and change the mentioned symbols. I hope that this opinion has helped you in anyway. However, as my last piece of advice, I would recommend coming up with your own personal way of writing good opinion, as it is all good and helpful using other people's advice, but it is even better to come up with your ways of writing. Once again, hoped this helped.
When people think of dieting they think of eating less to lose weight or they eat a special diet to gain muscle. Well, this opinion is on the losing weight, so I guess that the first kind of dieting is the relevant one, don't you? A few months ago I decided that I was going to try to gain some muscle, and so began surfing the net, looking for ways to gain muscle. What I came across was fascinating, after typing 'body building' into the yahoo.com search engine, I discovered that there were two types of bodybuilding. One type was to gain muscle, the other to lose fat, and that is the point of dieting right, to lose fat? The fat-loss method I came across was called pre-competition bodybuilding, and is basically what bodybuilders use to lose fat before gaining the muscle. Now, conventionally the best way to lose weight is to go on a diet that doesn't contain too many calories, with the idea that the body will turn to its fat reserves and that you will begin losing weight. This works to an extent. You see, the rate that your body uses nutrients is known as your metabolism. People who tend to eat lots and still remain thin have high metabolism rates. The reason that a lot of people don't find dieting to work is because when you start dieting your body isn't use to the reduced intake of nutrients, and so turns to its fat stores. However, this is the reason that people lose weight after a short period of dieting, but then stop after a while. Once your body is used to the reduced import of goods it reduces its metabolism to adjust to the lack of what it needs. Do you see where I am going with this? The idea behind pre-competition dieting is that you eat MORE. That's right, more, you have to eat more. Remember what I was saying about metabolism, well it works both ways, you eat less, your metabolism slows, you eat more, your metabolism increases. The reason that most people have never heard of this is because th
e professionals are concerned about things such as cholesterol build up, and worried they should be. You have to eat the right amount, sorry, three meals a day just doesn't cut it. The website I was looking at gave an example of his diet, and you just have to eat more, around five or six meals a day. You have breakfast, lunch, something between lunch and dinner, dinner, and then something before you go to bed. I know what you're thinking, you're thinking, "wow, this sounds good, I get to eat more and lose weight", that's what you're thinking right? Well no, it isn't THAT simple, you have to eat the correct things, and not just junk. You have to eat more protein. This is to keep your muscles from wearing away, the reason that people who diet look smaller and yet still have a small layer of fat is because as they diet they don't get enough protein, so as they diet their muscles waste and turn to fat. That isn't all though, to prevent to build up of more fat, you MUST work out, go running, biking, swimming, whatever, if you do try this you must prevent the build up of fat, otherwise it just won't help, at all. Also if you don't do the work, then you will probably end up with a build up of cholesterol, find something to motivate you, I find that when working out, watching wrestling helps me. This all does sound a bit much, and I wouldn't recommend trying it before looking at one of the many websites containing information about it. Hey, let me tell you now, since I have started this diet (and I wasn't fat to begin with, I just wanted the desired 'six-pack') I have lost a lot of the layer of fat that was layering my stomach. Try typing in something like pre-competition bodybuilding in a search engine and see what pops up. Now, I hate reading things where the information is all mixed up, so I am sure that there are others like me. So here, I will put all the important inf
ormation in bullet points for you to look at for yourself. 1 - check out a website that includes information about losing fat by eating more: pre-competition bodybuilding. 2 - follow the information that you have collected and plan up a diet suitable for you to follow. 3 - don't forget to work out otherwise you will experience a build up in cholesterol and could occur heart problems. 4 - your body will adjust to the diet so after around six weeks you will have to modify it. If you have been trying for years to lose weight, and all those diets haven't worked, then you may as well try this, things can only get better right? I know that you are probably sceptical, and it's to be expected, I mean I was too when I first read of this crazy method. I mean all the time you hear that the only way to lose weight is to eat less, and now all of a sudden I'm telling you of this crazy new idea. The theory behind this method though is sound, increasing the bodies metabolism will mean that the body will burn the fat at an increased rate, and the only way to increase your metabolism is to eat more. If you aren't sure try typing it into a search engine, remember, pre-competition bodybuilding. Ok, I found the website that I used, and it is www.fatlosstips.com, this is where I found out about this extreme method of losing body fat, and as you can tell from the web address, it has tips to help you lose fat. Before you go and rate this opinion not useful, please, check out the website and see for yourself. I feel that as part of the Dooyoo community that I should share my discovery with the rest of you fine people. I hoped that this has helped you in any way.
Everybody who watches WWF programming knows who the Hardy Boyz are, in fact their fame spreads beyond the boundaries of the WWF. Known for their technical expertise, risk-taking attitude and (what most women feel) good looks. They first shot to fame in that absolutely breath taking ladder match against Edge and Christian in 1999, during the October pay-per-view, No Mercy. The Hardy Boyz consist of the brothers Matt and Jeff Hardy, who are also brothers in reality. Together with the lovely high-flying Lita, Matt and Jeff form Team Xtreme. Jeff Hardy === Height: 6'2" Weight: 215 pounds From: Cameron, North Carolina Finishing Move: Swanton Bomb, Twist of Fate Career Highlights: Intercontinental Champion, Light Heavyweight Champion, Tag Team Champion (four time), Hardcore Champion (two time) (Information from wwf.com) Jeff Hardy is one of the youngest competitors that the WWF has to offer, and at his level, at 23 he still has a long, bright future in wrestling ahead of him. Jeff is my personal favourite WWF superstar, simply because he is just so good to watch, and the recent matches between him and RVD have more than proved that point. Jeff has a rather unconventional style, and this doesn't only cover his wrestling style, but also the way he dresses, and in particular, the way he likes to have his hair in a variety of different colours. Jeff, along with his brother Matt, have a unique in ring attire. They use a style of goth clothing, he wears fairly baggy black combat pants, a tight top that is either white, purple or bright green, and some unconventional elbow pads that stretch from above his elbow, down past his wrist and attached to his hand. His hair, well that is a different story, usually blue, green, purple and yellow, he does sometimes have it just red and yellow, I'll tell you now, you wouldn't have any trouble spotting him in a crowed. Jeff's style is also inn
ovative and unconventional. He takes normal moves and makes them his own personal style, for example his enzigury (reversal kick to the back of the head), instead of kicking his opponent in the back of the head, he spins his body in the opposite direction kicking his foe in the face with the heel of his foot. Other moves include his double leg drop to the groin, his sit-down jaw breaker, and (my favourite) his whisper in the wind moonsault reversal where he jumps on to the turnbuckle, flips backwards and spins his body landing with his legs to his opponents chest. One more innovative attack that I love is his 'witch', he doesn't do this often, I've only ever seen it twice, but to do this he gets a broom stick, gets on the top ropes and jumps, placing the broom between his legs, a bit like a witch, get it? Great stuff. Jeff has two finishing moves, the Swanton Bomb and to a lesser extent the Twist of Fate, I'll describe the Swanton Bomb for Jeff and the Twist of Fate for Matt. The Swanton Bomb is arguably the most visually impressive finisher in the WWF, and it is probably one of the hardest to perform. To do it, Jeff climbs to the top ropes, whilst shouting Swanton to let the crowd know what is coming. He then stays bent down for a moment before standing and either doing the Hardy Boyz gun sign trademark with his arms out to his sides, or with his arms bent up covering his face. He then dives off so his body is horizontal with the ring with his arms out, and then kicks his legs up to flip his body perfectly to land with his shoulders making contact with his opponents chest. It is a really stunning move. If you haven't seen the Swanton Bomb before, then my picture is of Jeff performing it, so you can have a look at that. The risks that Jeff Hardy takes are amazing, and I have this real bad feeling that one day it isn't all going to end in cheers, but in tears. When you look at his style, you can see that every ri
sk he takes could end his career. One such example was when he did a Swanton Bomb off the top of a cage that was at least twelve feet high, he has really lost it somewhere along the line. After watching a wrestling video called WWF Hardcore, it had Jeff saying that he wanted try being chucked off a cage (he was talking about Mick Foley being thrown off the top of a cage by the Undertaker) just so he could see if he would be able tog get up after it! Nuts! Matt Hardy === Height: 6'2" Weight: 225 pounds From: Cameron, North Carolina Finishing Move: Twist of Fate Career Highlights: European Champion (current), Hardcore Champion. Tag Team Champion (four time) (Information from wwf.com) Matt Hardy is the older of the two brothers, and as you can see he isn't as successful as his younger brother, although he does have just as much potential ability as Jeff, which you can see from his current run as European Champion. Although I don't like him as much as his brother Jeff, he is still one of my favourites, and one of the crowd's favourites too. Unlike his brother Jeff, Matt has a very conventional style. Out of the two brothers, Matt is more grounded and doesn't take as many risks as Jeff, but this doesn't stop him from putting on one hell of a show. Matt's clothing style is different but the same as Jeff's, and he doesn't have the multi-coloured hair piece either. Matt wears the same black combat pants as his brother Jeff, however he wears a tight black or other dark coloured top. Underneath his top he also wears unconventional elbow pads, unlike Jeff's, Matt's elbow pads are black and don't have the holes in them. Matt also doesn't have an array of unique, individual moves like Jeff, although he does have one, which isn't really unique. Matt uses a leg drop from the second rope, rarely off the top of the ropes, but it is still a good move.
Matt is the genius behind the works of the Twist of Fate. This is a very effective cross between a suplex and a neck breaker, showing Matt's technical expertise. To do the Twist of Fate matt first of all kicks his opponent in the midsection, which makes them bend over holding their stomach. He then hooks their head with his left arm, and sticks his right arm out doing the Hardy Boyz gun trademark. He then brings his right arm and hooks his opponents head so that he is now facing away from his opponent whilst holding their head with his two arms. He then falls to the floor, kicking his legs out so that he lands on his back, pulling his opponents face and neck into the canvas. This is usually, in tag team matches, followed by a Swanton Bomb, together putting their opponent down and out. Out of the two of them, Matt is the powerhouse of the team, providing a great mixture of power and risk, making the Hardy Boyz a deadly team, and one of the best in the WWF. The Hardy Boyz === The Hardy Boyz have burst onto the scene at just the right time. Five or ten years ago the tag team division was dominated by big teams such as the Legion of Doom, the Bushwhackers, Earthquake & Typhoon. Nowadays the WWF has many small and average sized teams such as Kaientai and the Dudley Boyz. The Hardy Boyz have only two trademarks that I can think of. The first I have mentioned, the gun signs that they use before they perform their big moves. Everyone knows what the gun signs are, but if you don't I'll explain. The gun signs are when you have your index and middle fingers fully extended, with the ring and pinky bent facing towards the arm, and with the thumb pointing out away from the hand, you know, the gun signs you used as kids to play Cowboys and Indians. The second trademark utilised by the Hardy's is any match to do with ladders, ok it isn't really a trademark, but they are the masters of ladder matches. The Hardy Boyz al
so have some great double team moves, with the best being Poetry in Motion. This is a very beautiful move to watch, although it doesn't really look all that painful and isn't a big finisher such as the Dudley Boyz 3D. To perform it, Matt and Jeff throw their opponent into the turnbuckle, Matt follows them in and gets in his hands and knees just in front of the dazed opponent. Jeff then runs from the opposite turnbuckle, steps on Matt's back and jumps towards his opponent, turning his body sideways so that his right leg is extended across the chest of this opponent, then lands on his feet. A truly great move. The Hardy Boyz do have a few more double team moves that aren't as visually impressive as the poetry in motion. One of them is when their opponent is on the ground facing up, Jeff does a 360 leg drop (where he sends his leg round 360 degrees) onto the head whilst Matt does a body splash onto the opponents body. Another good one is used in ladder matches, it is where they climb half way up two ladders, whilst their opponent is lying in the middle of them. Matt does a leg drop onto the opponent's head and Jeff does a body splash to the body. The Hardy Boyz are one of the best tag teams that the WWF has ever had to offer. Ok, they aren't the biggest and baddest, but they are, without question, the most entertaining team currently, arguably ever. Whenever you hear the Hardy's music, you just know that for the next ten, fifteen minutes you are going to be entertained. Speaking of their music, it is the fourth best behind Kurt Angle's, Chuck Palumbo & Shawn O'Haire and Lita's. To finish things off then, the Hardy Boyz are great and are, thankfully, going to around for a long time yet. Still in their early 20's the only thing that I can see stopping them is if Jeff permanently injures himself from his high-risk antics.
When I first started out on Dooyoo, all I was doing it for was the money, and so on signing up I used my mums name and age to collect my money. Now however, I like doing opinions, I see it as kind of a game, a challenge, a challenge to write the best opinions. Why is this relevant? Well let me explain. I am actually 17 years old, and have just gone through the very worst school year of my life. And why is this? Every 6th form in the past have had the benefit of not having to worry about external exams at the end of their first year, not my year though, oh no, the government see it fit to use us as their 'guinea pigs' in experimental school systems. During my school career, me and my year group have gone through three, yes three, experimental exam systems. The first was way back in year 6, when we were going through our SAT's, I'm not sure exactly what was different, but I do know it was a new system. The second was only last year with our GCSE's, once again they were trying a new system. Unfortunately, the old saying 'third time's a charm' just doesn't apply in this instance, a more suitable saying would be 'once is ok, twice is pushing it, three times and you won't get away with it'. The new system they have brought in is that after the first year of 6th form there is external examinations. They also changed the UCAS points system, now you get 120 points for an A at A2, 100 points for a B and so on. The AS levels are technically half an A level, you get 60 points for and A, 50 for a B and so on. It's all confusing and just doesn't work, the old system was a lot better. There has been a lot of stress placed on the pupils who went through these exams, and there are a lot of people who won't get the grades they deserve. Not only that, there were too many exams to fit into the two week period, mine weren't so bad, I went through nine exams in 14 days, and there was only one clas
h. A clash is when you have two exams scheduled for the same time, and this caused a lot of problems. A friend of mine had a lot of exams in one day (I think it was three), and she had to stay at a teacher's house over night just so that she couldn't contact ANYONE to give away the questions to the exam. Does this seem fair to you? I get along with teachers fine, but still, I don't think I would like to spend the night at on of my teacher's homes, it just isn't right. Also, there is a lot of people who won't recieve their grades for a few more months as the government didn't hire enough marker's. Good job guys! Another thing that makes this even worse is that it means pupils are going to go through 'the most important exams of their life' for three years in a row. Let me explain, each and every year we have exams, we are told that they are the most important exams of our life, and in a way they are. You need good GCSE's to get into 6th form, then you need good A levels to get into university, and now you need good AS levels to get good A2 levels. It is so stupid, the stress of having three external exams in a row is too much. Do you all remember how bad that GCSE exam period was? Having to stay in and revise on those really great sunny summer days, then the lack of sleep worrying about the exam the next day? Well let me tell you, it isn't fair to put people through that for three years in a row. I would have liked it if the old A level system was still in place, but this is just stupid. When I said there are a lot of people not getting the grades they deserve, one of those people is me. I am probably going to repeat this year because I haven't done very well at all. Last year in my GCSE's I got A's, B's and C's, which are quite good, however this year I'll be getting D's, E's and F's, and I'm not the only person, a lot of the year are doing really bad.
These bad results are mainly because this year we have had to rush through the course, just so we could have covered all the work in time. There was no going over subjects and learning them well, instead once you had covered one area, we immediately moved on to the next are. Previous A level students did better because they had plenty of time to go over and over the same subject so that it stuck in their head. Not this year though, and now they are realising that they have really screwed a lot of people, me for one, and I really want you all to know how bad this is for me and the other people in my position. And hey, this isn't just my opinion, all of my teachers agree that there isn't enough time to cover all of the work. In fact, some people did so bad in the January exams that their schools are MAKING all of them repeat the year. This makes it even worse for them, well may be not for them in particular, but it will make it worse for the year below. If there are a lot of schools making their pupils repeat the year, then in two years the universities are going to have to deny a lot of people, because there is going to be too many people applying, and the universities aren't going to be able to accommodate them. What makes it even worse though is that say, for example, a person applies for a biology course, and in any other year group they would be accepted for the course because they have good enough grades, however in that year they won't get on because there are more people with better grades filling the places. This isn't fair on those people, and that makes you wonder what the government is going to do about it. Now they are admitting that the system is a failure and a bad idea, well at least they can admit it, but that doesn't make it any better at all. Now I read that they are scrapping the 'three papers per subject' concept and are having one paper per subject. I've just got a feeling that this
won't work either, they should just scrap the whole idea and go back to the old A level system. I don't see why they needed a new system to begin with, and I really don't see why they have to experiment on my year group anyway, it really bakes my noodle. I feel so strongly about it that it is me that asked Dooyoo to add this topic, because I want you all to know how bad it is for us. In closing, AS levels suck, they make the supposedly best years of our life suck and they should be scrapped instead of being 'fixed'. I hope this opinion has helped you to see the AS exams the way me and my year group see them.
The state of this plant, as we all know is deteriorating at an unacceptable rate, and there isn't really all that much we can do about it as we have become too attached on material possessions such as cars and electrical appliances that aren't all that important. Not only is the problem that we are killing our home, but we are also running out of fossil fuels which provide us with most of our electricity. However, there are still options that we can take to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions that are proving fatal to this planet. The main source of energy we rely on is that created from non-renewable energy sources, as mentioned, these will one-day run out. The non-renewable sources we rely on are coal, oil, gas, and uranium and plutonium (nuclear fuel). Coal - this causes some serious environmental problems such as global warming and acid rain. There are ways we can reduce the problems caused by burning coal, such as removing sulphur dioxide after burning coal to prevent acid rain (scrubbing). There is only around 100 years worth of coal left, and to add to the problem it is cheap and easy to obtain, which will keep it as the main source of energy for a long time to come. Oil and Gas - the problems caused by this are global warming and harmful for wildlife (tanker spillage's). There is only one real solution to this, and that is to stop using them all together, easier said than done. There is only around 50 years of oil and gas left, this once again cheap to obtain, but not as easy as coal. Nuclear Fuel - we all know how dangerous nuclear power can be, and we also know how radioactive the waste is, meaning it's the high risk energy source. There is no safe solution for nuclear power, the danger will always be there, the only thing that could be done is to build the power stations in a remote place. To add to the problem of nuclear fuel, there are still good supplies of uranium left, meaning that this will be ar
ound for a while. Don't get me wrong, out of all the non-renewable energy sources, nuclear power is the one for me, as it doesn't leave greenhouse gasses. The non-renewable energy sources are the main generators of our electricity, but as we all know, there are plenty of renewable energy sources, energy sources that we can use again and again. Hydroelectric Power - energy from hydroelectric power is produced from dams, such as the Itaipu Dam in South America. To do this water is used to turn a turbine, producing electricity. As good as this is, it has its down sides, such as having to flood valleys to create reservoir's, meaning major relocation of wildlife. But as long as the rain keeps up this is an excellent reliable source of energy. Wind Power - the amount of energy produced from wind turbines isn't enormous, so this means that there needs to be many wind turbines to create a high level of electricity. It maybe a good renewable energy source as the wind will always be there, but they aren't the most beautiful sights in the world. They are best built out of the way, such as moors, preferably high moors where the wind is stronger. As mentioned, they don't produce 'mind boggling' quantities of energy, and with the wind being variable, then they can have good days and bad days. Tidal Power - the principle behind this is that the energy from the waves is used to drive turbines, creating electricity. There may be an abundance of potential tidal power here in Britain, however if we do utilise it, it isn't a very attractive coastal feature. The output of this energy source is variable, depending on the tide, and the size of the waves. Solar Power - solar panels 'catch' the heat from the sun and use it to heat water, producing steam to turn turbines. There's not much to say on solar power, as its advantages and disadvantages are well documented. Geothermal Power - th
is form of power makes use of the heat produced by the planet. Geothermal systems are located in areas where the earth's crust is fairly thin. By drilling into the ground and inserting pipes, hot water or steam can be brought directly to the surface. This heat can be used for either heating homes directly, or using the steam to drive turbines, creating electricity. Biomass - the term biomass refers to organic matter that can be converted to energy, organic matter such as wood, agricultural residues and crops grown specifically for energy. As well as this it is also possible to convert civic waste, manure or agricultural products into fuels for transportation, industry and even public use. Biomass is a great source or renewable energy because it is created from waste. At least something is being done about the current situation, the G8 Summit will hopefully produce something good from it. I can understand why America isn't in agreement with the Summit as they are the largest country in the world, and are the source of most of the planet's pollution, it would be very difficult for a country like America to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions. There is also another thing being done right here in Britain. Scottish Power plan to build Europe's largest wind farm on the hills of Eaglesham Moor, near Glasgow. The project will cost around $500 million, and will provide 140 turbines, these turbines will be able to generate enough electricity to power 150,000 homes. Not only that though, the company are predicting that the wind farm will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 500,000 tonnes, this is nearly one third of the governments renewable energy targets for Scotland. I think this is great news and that more governments around the world should consider following Scottish Power's example. These turbines are predicted to be up and running by 2003, only two years away. Not only are things being done to reduce green
house gas emissions and to utilise renewable energy sources more, technology is also advancing at an impressive rate. Let me explain, I recently got a Game Boy Advance, I also have an original Game Boy, and the batteries on my Game Boy Advance last so much longer than the same batteries in my original Game Boy. So you see, with technology advancing, and energy being used more efficiently, things are beginning to look up, and if technology continues to advance at its current rate, perhaps a greater, more efficient energy source will be created sometime in the not too distant future. So the big question is 'should we be utilising these renewable energy sources?' Well, yes and no, however you look at it there is going to be a price to pay, however the answer 'yes' has a more commanding presence than 'no'. If we don't make more use of the renewable sources of energy, then we are going to exhaust the planet of its fossil fuels and we are going to continue to 'kill' our planet.
Cockermouth is a town with what some consider having a funny name. I don't know why this is, personally I wouldn't laugh at hearing it for the first time, but lets face it, I bet you're sitting there, gathering your friends and telling them how you just discovered this really funny place name. Cockermouth is situated on the very edge of the Lake District National Park, and so has some very nice scenery to offer. It's relatively small, around three miles, so there isn't really a lot on offer for the locals, but don?t worry, there is plenty for tourists to see and do. I should probably mention that is expanding, recently opening up an Aldi and the Lakes Home Centre. For the tourists you have the following attractions: Sheep and Wool Centre ? Here you can find out about the history of Cumbria, they also have a range of different breeds of sheep and perform regular shows. It's a pretty good show, and I recommend seeing it if you are ever in the area (which you really should visit). Wordsworth House ? This is the birthplace of the famous poet William Wordsworth. The house that he and his sister grew up in is still here today, and it is usually open for the public to have a look around (yet another reason for you to come and visit). The Toy and Model Museum ? Ok, I don't know a great deal about this place, as I was very young the last time I visited, however I can tell you that I had a great time. The museum has a great range of, well, toys and models, and is something that the kids will really enjoy. Cockermouth Castle ? This is not usually open to the public, however if you are lucky enough to be in Cockermouth at the right time, you will be able to have a guided tour of it, and it is well worth it, however as I mentioned, it isn't often open to the public. Oh, and recently Prince Charles visited this place, so you may as well visit too. Jennings Brewery ? Jennings is probably
Cockermouth's best export, I?d say they are the brewers of Cumbria's finest ale. You can have a guided tour of the brewery, and as if that isn't tempting enough, you get to have free samples, you get that, FREE samples, so come on, yet another great reason to visit Cockermouth. There are a load of decent accommodation in Cockermouth, so if you do decide (which you shouldn't need to, you should be planning your trip right now) there are some decent places to stay the night, weekend, or week if you want. I would recommend the Wordsworth Hotel, personally I think that this is the best hotel in town, and if you are going to visit, I would stay here. There are also three (I think) caravan parks in Cockermouth. We have the Windsor Caravan Park, I don?t know a lot about this one, but it is just across the road from Cockermouth School (one of the best public schools in the region), but from what I have seen does look quite good. The other two are on my very street! The first is a caravan park called Violet Bank, it's not exactly on my road, but it's drive way is and I also don't know too much about this one either. The third doesn't have a name (I don't think), my next door neighbours run one using their garden, which is fairly big, and makes a nice caravan park, however since it changed owners it hasn't been as nice. You can't imagine the jokes I receive living next to a caravan park, I swear, some people. Now, for the younger of you, there isn't a great nightlife. There are a few pubs and restaurants, but there isn't any real clubs, we do have Sam's bar, which has a one o'clock licence, and is the place to go when the rest of the bars are closing. A typical Friday night is starting off at the Bull, then to Flecters, then to Mickey's, then to Sam's. Not to worry though, Workington is only 15 miles away, and is home to Cumbria's best club, Fusion. As well as Fusion, there are quite a
few other clubs in Workington, so the night life isn't far if you are visiting. For the outdoor type there is so much on offer, I can't go through them all because there is just so much. Ok, there isn't too much in Cockermouth, but yet again Keswick is only a few miles away, and you can do pretty much anything there. You can go walking, sailing, canoeing, climbing, paragliding, abseiling, my personal favourite ? paint balling, and so much more. And the drive from Cockermouth to Keswick is loaded with beautiful scenery, you got to drive past a lake, mountains, forests, it is really something quite special (not that it is a great distance, you could probably walk there in an hour). As you probably know, Cumbria is one of the worst areas in the country that foot and mouth has had a massive impact on, and Cockermouth is no different. Now, there are a lot of people that are under the impression that the footpaths are still closed, well no, a lot people are wrong, in fact, just about all of the paths are open again. So if you enjoy history, outdoors, and fun, Cockermouth is open for business, and it would be really great if people would start flooding back to visit. Oh yeah, I should probably mention that Cockermouth is one of few gem towns in the country. It is a really great place to visit, and I would recommend it to anyone who feels like visiting somewhere beautiful this summer, or whenever, this is the place to visit.
Ok, I think it's safe to say that we all know the health risks involved with smoking so I won't bore you with the details. Even with the health risks people still manage to find themselves smoking anyway, I mean, when you look at pictures of smokers lungs, it makes you feel really bad that some people actually willingly do this to themselves. Another thing that I don't get about smoking is that cigarettes taste so bad, they really do, those of you who don't smoke and never have, they do taste like they smell. I remember the first time I ever had a cigarette, it was at a friends party. I?d had a few drinks (a whole bottle of red wine) and one of my friends offered me one whilst I was saying how disappointed I was that she smoked. I took it outside with another friend, who also smoke on occasions, and who gave me a light, one drag it took to make me throw up all that wine I had in what made a nice red colour on the floor. Unfortunately this wasn't the only time I have ever smoked, which it really should've been, however there was only one more time. This time I had a whole one, and it did feel kind of nice as well, but not nice enough to make me start smoking just for this feeling. Now, I don't remember exactly what it felt like, but from what I can remember it sort of feels like a little like this. You breathe all the way out, hold your breather for as long as you can, then breathe in and hold your breath for as long as you can, and then start breathing normally. Something else that annoys me about smoking, well in particular when you go out and there are people smoking around you. Isn't it bad when you go out on a Friday or Saturday and then the next morning you can smell them on your fingers, and on the clothes that you wore, it is nasty, that smell also makes me sick. I know that most smokers hate the smell as well, and yet they put up with it, all for a little head rush, it's not worth it, I think it
would be better for them to just give it up, than put up with it. Now, before all you smokers start commenting about how I have no idea how hard it is to give up, I do have a slight idea. My mum smokes, she's smoked ever since I remember. There was one time that she was trying to quit, and let me tell you, it isn't pretty, but all the same, I would prefer the temporary mood swings than the smell and making her sit on her own when she smokes. You see, smoking is all bad, bad all round, every way you look at it it's bad. It is bad when you smoke, it is bad when you try to quit, and it is just no worth it. I find some smokers to be a touch hypocritical, I know some smokers who talk bad about drugs and people who do drugs, but hey, isn't nicotine a drug, aren't cigarettes just drugs? Yeah they are, anything that alters the bodies natural state is a drug. The main drug in cigarettes is nicotine, and for those who aren't sure what its effects are (me!), here is what my A level biology text book says: "Nicotine produces its effect on the heart and blood vessels because it mimics the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, one of the main neurotransmitters in the parasympathetic nervous system. Acetylcholine is also the neurotransmitter at neuromuscular junctions. Organophosphate insecticides and nerve gases act at these junctions by inhibiting cholinesterase, the enzyme that catalyses the breakdown of acetylcholine. The continued presence of acetylcholine causes muscles to contract continuously, in some cases with fatal results." There, that's what nicotine does, I'm not sure what that means because we haven't done anything like that in class, but I can pick out some bits that are bad, "in some cases fatal results." that's nicotine for you. Why do people start smoking in the first place? Is it peer pressure? Is it to look 'cool'? Or is it just b
ecause there are a lot of people who do it and they want to fit in? Well, I guess it all depends on who you are and what you're like. First off peer pressure, if you don't smoke and people are pushing you to it, than don't, you don't have to do anything anyone asks you to. If it's to look 'cool', then no, it doesn't look 'cool', most people can't stand it when other light up, because it smells, and it makes you smell, and hey guess what, stinking isn't 'cool'. Finally, if you want to fit in the only way to do so is to be yourself, when you look at people in general, the people who are really liked are those who do things their own way, not those who copy others. Another good question is that why those who do smoke continue to do so? Well, the nicotine causes chemical changes in the body, and once the body is used to a higher level of nicotine then you are finished. The reason people 'crave' for cigarettes is that because when the level of nicotine in the body decreases, since your body is used to the higher levels of the chemical, it starts to have withdrawal symptoms. And they say that cigarettes help them to relax is because when they smoke again, the nicotine level raises to the level that the body is used to, leaving a relaxed feeling. It's an easier way for smokers to say that cigarettes help them relax than it is for them to say that they have a chemical addiction. It's hard to criticise people who smoke, because they can't help it, poor buggers, but I think that everyone could try to give up. I know how hard it is to give up, as I said my mum tries it, to no avail I should point out, but still. People have and you need to take the attitude of 'if they can, I sure as hell can'. Hey, if you don't want to make the effort for yourselves, then at least make the effort for those around you, family, friends, hell even strangers, no one likes it when people smoke
, personally it makes me cough, and it also makes it look like I've been crying, and being the mans man that I am, I can't afford to look like I've been crying (little joke, sorry). I hope this opinion helps!
You know that you can get money from watching Stone Cold Steve Austin, yeah it's true. All you have to do is watch him, then write an opinion on Dooyoo, it is that simple! :-) Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the most dynamic personas in the WWF today, no, scratch that, in history. His real name is Steve Williams, I guess the Austin is to make the 'Texas rattlesnake' seem more Texan. He is 6"2' and weighs in at 241 pounds and is the current WWF Champion, 'nuff said. In a time where the WCW were beating the WWF in the Monday night ratings war, Stone Cold Steve Austin was the secret weapon, the 'nuclear device' so to speak that the WWF had up its sleeve. WCW were at one point the number one brand in sports entertainment, and the WWF were simply getting beat because WCW were buying all of the WWF's top talent, leaving them having to rack their brains as to how to beat WCW once and for all. With the WCW buying all of the WWF's top stars, I guess they didn't realise that they had a gold mine in potential merchandising, and so let go one of their wrestlers who went by the name of 'Stunning' Steve Austin, and let him go for being 'unprofitable'. Ha, that turned around and bit them right in the ass. Austin then went to the WWF and became Stone Cold Steve Austin. Now, most people get it confused and think that Austin became good when he entered the WWF, the truth is Austin has always been a great wrestler, the only difference is that the WWF used him better. Austin entered the WWF at the perfect time, a time where the WWF were making some serious changes to try to win back the ratings. The WWF were trying a whole new 'attitude', they were quitting with the old good guy, bad guy wars, and starting with a more rebellious outlook for their characters. I feel Stone Cold Steve Austin is the personification of the WWF's new 'attitude'. He has the perfect r
ebellious, foul-mouthed, don't take no $h1t from no one attitude which the fans really love, I mean, how often is it that a guy can beat the hell out of his boss and not get fired. There is one advert on WWF programming advertising the whole 'attitude' thing, I want to quote Stone Colds advert because I feel it shows his 'attitude' perfectly: "Stone Cold Steve Austin is going to come down here, and I'm going to do what I want when I want, and it will be THE very worst day of your life. This is the way I think, this is the way I am, and I ain't gonna change for you or nobody and there's not a damn thing you can do about it." Okay, I'm not sure whether that is it exactly, next time it is on I'll take note and update it, but you can get a picture of it from that. I think that the WWF is only as big as it is now because of Stone Cold. Stone Cold has only one finisher, and that is the Stone Cold Stunner. This is such a great move because it so simple, and it can be done to anyone, large or small, all day long. What he does is he flips the bird (gives 'em the middle fingers), a quick kick to the stomach which bends the opponent over, he turns he back to them, hooks he right arm over their head, holding it firmly to his shoulder, and sits down. This is very effective as it provides a large blow to the jaw, which effectively knocks his opponent out. It can be said that it is the best, and most effective finisher in the WWF. It is also another example of the WWF's 'attitude', as he gives them the middle finger before he does it, and oh yeah, the crowd go absolutely nuts when he does it. Austin also has some great rebellious gimmicks (things wrestlers do that no other do, such as The Rocks "If ya smelllllll, what The Rock is, cookin"). First off is his tendency to give the middle finger, he gives it to everyone, to Vince McMahon, but not only that, to the fans as we
ll. This is such a simple, yet greatly effective gimmick showing his rebellious gimmick. Another is his "hell yeah" phrase, he usually says it to get a response from the crowd, for example, "if you want me to whip Vince's ass give me a hell yeah", to which the crowd respond, "hell yeah". Another is his Bud, he likes to drink Bud after a match that he wins, he gets a guy to throw him two Buds after he has won and drinks them in the ring, great stuff. Finally is his Austin 3:16 gimmick. This has been the source for millions of dollars in merchandising, in fact it is the best selling merchandise ever in the WWF, I'm not sure but it could be the best ever selling merchandise in anything. Now there is some confusion as to where Austin 3:16 originated, I've heard all sorts of stories such as it was his prison number, well no, it wasn't his prison number or anything like that. In Jake the Snake's Bible preaching days, he was talking about John 3:16 (or something) from the Bible, when Austin interrupted and said something followed by, "well Austin 3:16 said I just whooped your ass". Wait, I'm forgetting something, what is it? oh yeah, how could I forget his big 'go home' line (something which the character ends his interview, like The Rocks "if ya smelll"). Whenever he finishes an insult on someone or something along those lines, he ends it with, "and that's the bottom line, coz' Stone Cold said so". He has recently adopted newer gimmicks that he uses in his new 'cowardly' attitude. One of these is, "ok, you can have your title shot, I'll take you on any time, any where, just not tonight". Once again, I don't think those are the exact words, but you get what I mean. I used to watch wrestling about 8 years ago then I stopped, and have only just been watching it again from the time Austin was hit by a car, so I don&
#39;t know too much about the old Stone Cold. However, another gimmick that he has been using a lot, that I don't think he did use is, "look at ya, look at ya, you're pathetic", he tends to use this towards title challengers. The difficult thing about writing opinions of wrestlers is that some wrestlers change their characters, so what I write now may not be any good in a matter of weeks. Austin is one character that has changed three times since he has been back from a neck injury. Just to explain that Austin injured his neck so the WWF made a great story line, which involved one of the, if not the most dangerous stunt ever tried in live sports entertainment. Austin was hit by a car, in which a wrestler known as Riqishi was driving, which was orchestrated by another wrestler, HHH, to create a great rivalry. When Austin first came back he was the original foul-mouthed, beer-swilling, don't take no crap from no one Stone Cold, the one who revolutionised sports entertainment, the one the fans can't get enough of. Then, he aligned himself with one of his old time enemies, Vince McMahon, all for the WWF Championship, 'screwing' The Rock, and as you can imagine, it ain't going to go down to well with the fans if you 'screw' the 'peoples champion'. This caused the first Austin change, he went from being as described at the start of the paragraph, to being a suck up, that's right, a big stylee brown-noser. This prompted him to give Vince hugs all the time. The second change was only recently, and it involves the current story line with the WCW/ECW vs. WWF. Vince needed a leader, someone to lead team WWF, a five man team into the pay-per view main event at Invasion, and Stone Cold was the man to do that. However, not the suck up Stone Cold, on one episode of Smackdown! Vince asked, no, begged Stone Cold to return to his old ways, he even begged him to give him the Stunner. All Austin could
do was leave the arena, head down. Then on the next Raw Austin was at a bar, so Vince went to see him to explain why he needed the old Stone Cold, and I guess it worked. Austin didn't react at first, and Vince left, but later that evening team WWF were getting whooped by the WCW/ECW team, and I mean seriously, completely outnumbered. Austin was listening earlier to the WWF locker room getting some inspiration from a WWF hero from another time (I forget who), I guess this struck something in Austin, because he went into a bit of a rage and headed back to the arena. He gets out of his pick-up to find two WCW/ECW guys beating on some WWF guys, so Austin takes them out, he then proceeds into the arena to find two more WCW/ECW guys, so beats them to. And when the fans heard the sound of glass breaking across the sound system (that's the beginning of Austin?s music) they went nuts, seriously, the sound must have been deafening, the old Stone Cold was back! He started walking down to the ring, where team WWF were getting slaughtered, then began running, got in and cleared house, he gave half of them the Stunner, I swear, if you are a fan and didn't see it, it was truly amazing. A great example of why the WWF is so good. This third change however, only lasted for a week, as the next Sunday at Invasion, he would change again. The main event was an inaugural brawl, a five-man tag match between team WWF and the alliance. This was the formidable team of Kane, Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, and the old Stone Cold, against DDP (Diamond Dallas Paige), Booker T, and former WWF superstars Rhyno, and the Dudley Boyz. What a match, it was all but over when Angle locked his ankle lock on Booker T, but wait, Stone Cold made his most recent change, he became even worse than when with McMahon, he broke the ankle lock, and hit Angle with the Stunner. Now Austin is a paranoid guy who needs constant reassurance from his new owners, and as if that isn't bad en
ough, for the first time in history, the WWF title is in the hands of another company. Oh, Kurt Angle incidentally after being screwed is now a fan favourite. I don't think there is too much doubt that Austin will once again be the old Stone Cold, being the most profitable character ever in the history of wrestling it is only a matter of when, not if. And that's the bottom line, coz' mmmbuffy said so!!! :-)
Kurt Angle is one of the most impressive WWF superstars today, he is arguably the best athlete on the WWF roster, simply because of one of his many achievements. In the 1996 Olympics, held in Atlanta, Kurt Angle won the gold medal in the Olympic Freestyle Wrestling at 22 pounds, not only that though, he was the very first American to win gold in Olympic Wrestling. Kurt Angle is one of many WWF superstars to have a college education. He attended Clarion University and got a B.S. in geography. Once Angle graduated from college he began training full time for the Olympic team, he also had a few part time coaching jobs in wrestling. Angle's abilities earned him a place on Team USA for the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, and later that year he realised his dream by defeating Abbas Jadidi (Iran), winning 220 pound freestyle wresting competition. After his Olympic victory, Kurt turned from amateur wrestling to the world of sports-entertainment by joining the WWF. Kurt has firmly established himself as one of the top heels (bad guys) in the WWF, and if there was any doubt of his heel attributes, they were erased earlier this year after he broke Scotty Too Hotty's ankle using his ankle lock. Kurt has two main finishers, and a finisher he sometimes uses, first off his Olympic Slam, recently being called the Angle Slam, I tend to prefer Olympic Slam. This is a pretty good manoeuvre, although I have to say, it doesn't look as painful as some other moves. To execute it he puts his opponents arms round his shoulder , he then uses his other arm to hook the opponents leg, then he swings his opponent so their body is racked over his shoulder and spins around, slamming their body into the canvas after about 180 degrees. Kurt's second finisher is a particularly effective and easy to execute (especially for a great amateur like Angle) move, known as the Ankle Lock, and more recently the Angle Lock. He has many was to get his opponent face
down on the mat, but once there they are finished. He grabs his opponents left leg, hooks it around the ankle, and with his other hand he begins to turn the ankle, applying great pressure to the ankle. Very painful if it were to be done in reality. Kurt's other finisher is the moonsault, now this is a move usually associated with high-flyers, Lita is a good example. To perform this he climbs to the top rope, with his opponent lying below the rope, and faces the crowd, he then jumps off backwards and goes around 270 degrees, landing with his front on his opponents front. This is a particularly risky move, for his opponents, he put Hardcore Holly out for a while doing this, he shattered Hardcore's arm. What makes Kurt so funny is that he thinks he is SO good, he is, but not as good as he thinks. He has two gimmicks (these are things that they do that no other wrestler does, such as The Rocks, "If ya smellllll, what The Rock, is, cookin'"). He refers to himself as the peoples 'Olympic Hero', I guess he is in a way, but still, it is rather amusing. He also likes referring to his three I's, Integrity, Intelligence, and Intensity, saying how he has them, but no one else does. One feat that makes Kurt Angle so funny is the way he insults the fans, not only that, but the way he does it. Whenever the WWF go to a different state, he takes something about that state and uses it to skit the people, it's usually something about their ice hockey team, or football team. Not only that though, his go home line (last word so to speak) is truly great, he likes to finish with, "Oh, it's true, it's damn true". Despite Kurt's abilities, the fans really don't like him, mainly because he insults them and is a REAL brown-noser, he sucks up to Vince McMahon like there is no tomorrow. Not only this though, he tends to have rivalries with the fans favourites, he recently had a rivalries with Th
e Rock, Chris Jericho, and to more amusement Chris Benoit, where Benoit took Kurt's gold medals, and kept them in a safe, warm place (in other words, down his kegs!) Rivalries such as this have led Kurt to be booed by the fans, also having a relationship with big time heel tag-team Edge and Christian. No matter how much Kurt WAS booed, he has now recently found himself being cheered, and I mean CHEERED, the fans reaction to his new found bravery, and loyalty to the WWF have sky rocketed him into being a fans favourite. The recent invasion on the WWF by WCW and ECW have meant that Stone Cold Steve Austin has left the WWF and joined the WCW/ECW alliance. Why is this important? well let me explain. Stone Cold and Vince have had a relationship since Wrestlemania, and recently Kurt has been a part of it. During the recent pay-per view, WWF Invasion, the main event was a ten man tag team match, the WWF team consisted of Kurt, Stone Cold, Kane, Undertaker, and Stone Cold, and the WCW/ECW team was formed of the Dudley Boyz, Rhyno, DDP, and Booker T. During the main event, Undertaker chased DDP out of the ring because of a recent rivalry, and all of the wrestlers were totally wasted, except for Kurt and Booker T who were fighting in the ring, and Stone Cold, on the outside. Kurt was beating on Booker T, he was totally dominating, and then locked in the ankle lock on Booker T, this would normally result in the end of the match, but no, Stone Cold turned on the WWF and hit Angle with the stunner, and the alliance own the brawl. On the episode of Raw is War the following day, the show opened with the alliance owners in the ring, with Stone Cold, and he was explaining how he felt there was no competition in the WWF, and so jumped ship to a team who appreciated him. Then, he was interrupted by Angle, and the crowd absoloutley loved him, I mean they were going nuts. Stone Cold began insulting Angle saying, "Look at ya, you're pathetic", in typic
al Stone Cold fashion, he then said to come down to the ring. Kurt then began sprinting down to the ring, to the fans delight, got in and he and Stone Cold began exchanging punches, Kurt then ducked a punch and hit Stone Cold with one of his belly to belly suplexes. The fans were going nuts, and have loved him ever since (a whole week!) I feel Kurt makes a much better babyface (good guy) than he did a heel, and hope that he continues as he is. No matter whether he is a heel or a babyface he is still unquestionably on of the best athletes in the WWF, this was shown in his rookie (first) year in the WWF, unquestionably the best rookie year of any WWF superstar in history. First of all, he won the European and Intercontinental titles, as if that wasn't enough he then went on to win the 2000 King of the Ring tournament. Wait, that wasn't enough either, he then went a top it all by beating The Rock to win the WWF Championship at the November 2000 No Mercy. Not only is he a good athlete, he is an impressive role model. You can look at Kurt and his achievements, you can't help but be impressed, I mean read them, Olympic gold medallist, WWF superstar, and he was recently inducted into the amateur wrestling hall of fame, quite impressive. And hey, if Kurt can do it, so can everyone else, he is truly inspiring, "Oh it's true, it's damn true!" At the tender age of 28, Kurt Angle has a great career ahead of him. If he can remain on the good side of the fans he can go on to achieve greatness in the WWF.
What does one think of when they hear those three letters WWF? Well, for loads of people I know it's 'oh its all fake' or 'WWF, that's really sad'. Why? For most guys it contains three of the four things a man needs: sports, entertainment, and women (for those who ain?t sure, beer is the fourth). For me wrestling is just as good as most programs that most people watch. It has better story lines than programs such as Eastenders, or Coronation Street, it has more action than a Brazilian football match, and more laughs than The Simpsons? it is just pure entertainment. But what is it that makes it just so good to watch? Well, lets get into that. The WWF has two main weekly shows, Raw is War and Smackdown!, performed every Monday and Thursday in the states, shown every Friday and Saturday on Sky Sports. This is quite a demanding work load don't you think, these guys have to perform week in and week out, this includes holidays such as Christmas and Thanks Giving, I have to say that this commands a great deal of respect. And as if that wasn't enough they also have pay-per views every month, two of which are performed right here in the UK. Could you imagine performing on a Saturday in the UK, and then performing that following Monday in the states? wow, that is quite impressive. One thing that makes the WWF stand out from the crowd is the characters that light up your TV when you watch them, but before I get into that I would like to clear up the stereotype that most wrestlers are dumb jocks. To list a few that have a college degree are Albert, The Rock, Ivory, Chyna, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, and Mick Foley. That's right, Mick Foley, I didn't believe it either, but its true. For those of you who don't know who Mick Foley is, let me fill you in. Mick Foley is the all time hardcore legend, the stuff he did was unrivalled, currently retired he still makes appearances on WWF shows. To list some of the th
ings he?s done he used to be in explosion matches, that's right, they'd put mines (obviously not real ones that kill) in the ring, and when you landed on them, BANG!, he's been in fire matches, and oh yeah, lets not forget he used to jump off his house onto a bed mattress (which aren?t all that good for landing on). And yes, he does actually have a college degree. But that's not all of the superstars that have a degree, Trish Stratus was going to become a doctor, Spike Dudley graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in English Literature, Kurt Angle has a degree in geography. I think that is proof that they all aren?t stupid, no matter how dumb their character is. Enough of that though, back to why the WWF's characters are the best around. We'll start off with The Rock, The Rock is the 'peoples champ', the people really do love him. Since joining the WWF he has gone from being a 'babyface' (good guy), to being a 'heel' (bad guy), to being a cocky good guy who is also a heel. The people love The Rock, no matter how much he skits them, which he does a lot, they love him, his line 'if ya smelllllll, what The Rock is cookin' is probably the best line in sports, let alone sports entertainment. Another WWF superstar, the first of them to reach the greatest hieghts of sports entertainment, is Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin started off in rival company WCW as Stunning Steve Austin, and this is another reason why the WWF is far superior, WCW didn't use Austin's ability to its full. Only after he was sacked from WCW, and went to the WWF did he become a real superstar, don't get me wrong, I don't mean that he was bad and became good when he entered the WWF, he was always good, just the WWF used him better. Austin was the first wrestler to adopt the WWF's 'attitude', he became the beer-swelling, trash-talking, foul-mouthed SOB that he is, or was should I say. Austin's merchan
dise, in particular the Austin 3:16 shirts have sold better than anything in sports entertainment. I would also like to make reference to the women's division in the WWF. For the guys, you got some mighty fine women in the WWF, for the women, you got some inspirational women to admire. Some people who don't watch wrestling may think that women wrestling isn't very good, and to tell the truth the technique of most of the women wrestlers isn't exactly mind blowing, but the women's division is being revolutionised. Wrestlers such as Joanie Laurer (Chyna) and Amy Dumas (Lita) have helped to change the view of women wrestlers. Chyna became famous being butler to HHH in the days of D-X, not only that she is of unbelievable size, she is stringer than some of the men in the WWF. Lita is famous for different reasons, she shot to fame accompanying the high flying Hardy Boyz, and her own high flying ways. There are lots of women who look at Lita and see her as an inspiration. The WWF is mainly at the heights that it is today thanks to its 'attitude', personified by Stone Cold Steve Austin. The WWF were losing the ratings battle with WCW, this was mainly because WCW owners were very rich, resulting in them being able to offer better contract to WWF superstars, and so effectively buying the WWF's top talent. There was one incident that comes to mind with Bret 'the hitman' Hart, he was the WWF champion, and he had just signed a lucrative deal with WCW. He was fighting Shawn Micheals, who he hated (and I mean hated, in real life, personally), and Shawn put him in a sharpshooter, Bret's finishing move, and Vince McMahon came down and told the bell announcer to ring the bell, even though Bret never tapped out, this wasn't choreographed, and Bret was 'screwed'. This shows how desperate the WWF were at that time. They needed something to draw the ratings back, and so the era of 'attitude' was born. Gone
were the days of good guy, bad guy rivalries, in come the days of rebellious characters doing what they wanted to do. As it turned out, this idea worked, extremely well, and the WWF is now the most dominating force in sports entertainment, and rival companies began to fall. WCW managed to hold on, but ECW, well they just could not compete. It could be said that the WWF's 'attitude' has been took from ECW. ECW really were one of the most entertaining companies, this is because the ECW believed in putting on a show at any price, such as a scaffolding match in which the winner was the one left standing on the scaffolding. If you look at ECW you can see similarities between the attitude of their roster and the WWF's 'attitude'. The WWF is a real family business. Its been in the McMahon family for generations, and the family is really worked into the story lines. For example, currently Vince and his wife Linda are getting a divorce, Vince and his son Shane are feuding as Shane just bought the competition, WCW, and even now, Vince and his daughter Stephanie are feuding as she has just bought another rival company, ECW. As far as the family fighting is concerned, no one wants to see that kind of thing with any family (I just gotta say that I do realise that it is all choreographed and plotted), but with the McMahon's, you've just got to love it. With WCW and ECW wrestlers beatin' on the WWF superstars, interfering with matches, and just causing madness, you've got to take your hat off to the writers, they are true geniuses. For those who don't know, let me explain why this is such a great story line. ECW have been gone for a while, you could say that this is because the WWF bought all of their best, wrestlers such as Tazz, Raven, the Dudley Boyz, Tajiri, Rhyno, and so on. The owner of the former organisation, Paul Heyman, is currently a commentator for the WWF, although now he is back with ECW feuding with the W
WF. The once great WCW, who once won more ratings from Raw is War on Mondays found themselves changing owners faster than Stan Collymore can find new clubs. This meant that the business suffered and the WWF found itself getting the ratings back, causing WCW to nearly go out of business. This invited Vince McMahon to swoop in and buy the competition, meaning that the WWF would be the undisputed king of sports entertainment. However, before Vince could use his God sized check book, his son Shane swooped in and bought the company from right beneath Vince's nose. Now, this is where it gets good, Vince pays for all of the network companies not to show WCW, so this leaves new owner Shane in a pickle, he knows that is his guys cant get on TV and perform, then they'll walk. So, Shane kills two birds with one stone, he gets his guys on TV, and gets under his dads skin by having his guys 'invade' the WWF and interfere in matches. So, the WWF superstars get together to sort WCW out, and they guard every entrance to every arena they got to, all in aid of preventing WCW 'piggy-backing' off their success. However, they still manage to get in, and how do they do this? Paul Heyman gives them information on how to get in. Then Vince is given an even bigger head ache when he discovers WCW and ECW have combined against him, and if that wasn't enough, his 'billion dollar princess' is the new owner of ECW. This is why the writers MUST be given a lot of credit, and is also why the WWF is just so good. As if the WWF aren't rich enough. In October 1999, the WWF shocked the financial world when they went public on the NASDAQ. And then a year later they did it again, on October 25th the WWF announced that they will begin trading stock on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). I'm pretty sure that this will mean more money for the WWF. To address the issue of wrestling being 'fake'. There are two ways in which this term affec
ts wrestling. The first, sure, wrestling is fake, the matches are pre-determined, they are also choreographed, and yes, there are story lines, and yes, wrestlers who hate each other in front of the camera are probably best friends backstage. The second, no, wrestling is not fake, the ring may be padded, but the moves are real, the submissions are real the punches do connect. If it was fake then there would be no injuries, but there are, and not just minor ones, Steve Austin broke his neck a little over a year ago, HHH recently tore his quadricep muscles, Chris Benoit recently ruptured a disk in his neck. Could you imagine being on the receiving end of a super plex (suplex of the top rope), there is no way that it wouldn't hurt. I would also like to mention how great the superstars are as athletes and as entertainers. As I mentioned, HHH and Chris Benoit have recently been injured, these injuries occurred in a match, and yet these guys still managed to get up and perform the rest of the match, and if you ask me, this commands a great deal of respect. I don't think I could see myself rupturing a disk in my neck and then carry on with the match. And oh, before any cynics can say that the injuries are fake, well, no, they're not. HHH and Benoit both have had surgery, and the WWF have shown replays showing the injuries occurring. You could easily see how Spike Dudley broke his leg. IF you don't like wrestling and haven't seen it before, just watch it for a couple of weeks, get to learn the characters and you'll find yourself hooked, like me. Everyone should watch it, the chances are you will become a fan before long, I remember I didn't like it at first, but now I can't get enough. So please, for me people, watch it. Wait, no, I don't mean that, here, I mean watch the WWF, WCW is boring, if you want entertainment, watch the WWF. In referance to one comment, i would like to point out that i do
know that the WWF bought WCW, i was refering to the current story line in play - the invasion.
Has anyone here heard of a band called Hybrid Theory? Well maybe some of you, but the once excellent band called Hybrid Theory are now the excellent band called Linkin Park. I?m not sure where they got their name from (maybe someone can help me out) but I do know why this is their name, they decided that if they could fire themselves onto record store shelves next to Limp Bizkit it would help them in their quest for fame and glory. However, Hybrid Theory is the name of their totally awesome album, with twelve great tracks for all kinds of moods. Linkin Park are formed by Chester Bennington ? Vocals Rob Bourdon ? Drums, Backing Vocals Brad Delson ? Guitars, Base, Backing Vocals Joseph Hahn ? Records Sampling, Backing Vocals Mike Shinoda ? Emcee, Vocals, Beats, Sampling To say in breif, their album, Hybrid Theory, is a very good album, but I think that you need to be a fan to like their album, as although the songs are different and good, they seem to be built from the same foundations. But hey, if it ain?t broke, don?t fix it! Here?s a brief summary of the tracks for all of y?all. Papercut This is the latest (and third) song released from the album. It?s a great mixture of rapping and singing forming a not too heavy track for all people. One Step Closer One Step Closer was the first song released and is the most heavy track on the album. No rapping, just a blend of proper (as in non-screaming) and shouting style of vocals, with an addictive tune to it, one of the best songs on the album. With You Personally, I love this track, but I can also understand why most people wouldn?t like it. The band makes full use of the decks in this track, some nice vocal, rapping and shouting, and catchy tune. On the whole, I think that this song is just and album filler (bad to ok song used to take up some album space) Points of Authority Yet another album filler, which I also love
. I can?t really explain this song, except some singing vocals and a line of rapping in which the lyrics I think are awesome, her, I?ll treat you to them: ?forfeit the game, before someone takes you out of the frame, and puts your name to shame, cover up your face, you can?t run the race, the pace is too fast, you just won?t last?. Well, I think it?s good anyway. Crawling This was the second track, and arguably the best song on the album, one of the best songs in the world for me. Unfortunately it didn?t make it to as high as it could have been in the charts, I think the band need more radio exposure. The vocals in this song use the bands ability to sing, rap and shout to a great affect creating a relaxing happy song good for most people (my sister likes this song, and she doesn?t like anything but dance) Runaway This song is quite similar to Crawling, not as good and not as relaxing, but it uses similar sound effects and vocals to create a similar great song. This is also one of the best tracks on the album. By Myself This song is mainly rapping, not in a Dr. Dre or Eminem style, but in a nice chilled out tone. This and the tune makes it a quality song, the chorus and interlude could have been made better. In the End This is a great song, if you want to talk about meaning, this is the song to talk about. This is a slow paced song about time, and is such a good song. They SHOULD release this song next, this will do well. If you aren?t going to get their album, download this off one of the many websites there is to download songs from A Place for my Head This song starts with a totally cool base (even though the band have no base player) and continues it ?coolness? all the way through the song. This is one of those summer tunes and is really good. Forgotten OK, I?m running out of things to say as most of the songs on the album appear to be built on the same fou
ndations. However, I think I can go on. This song blends the bands rap skills with Chester Bennington?s versatile vocal skills to produce a quality song. Cure for the Itch I know that Linkin Park are a band, and ?The Chillout Session? albums are dance music, but this song would be a real bonus on it. No vocals, just music, it starts off as just a beat, then progresses into a real chillout tune. Great song, perfect for calming down Pushing me Away This is a great song, another contender for ?best on the album?. This is just singing, shouting, and a rap bridge, and is pulled together to form a quality tune. There aren?t many bands in the world that can boast having an album of twelve songs, with twelve really good songs that you can listen to over and over, and Linkin Park are one of these bands. If you like their type of music, and don?t have their album, then you have to ask yourself ?why not?.
Does everyone remember the good old days of the 16-bit powerhouse that was the Super Nintendo? And does everyone remember the quite possibly greatest racing game on that console, no wait, on any console? Yes, F-Zero. It really was a quality racing game that provided hours of racing fun for millions of people. It was a hard decision for me to splash out on an £85 machine, but as soon as I discovered that one of its first releases was F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, I just had to buy one. And was I disappointed with the game? No, not one single bit, I haven’t been able to put it down. The Game T he game is set around 20 years after the original speed demons of Captain Falcon and co. The vehicles are the descendants of the original racers, and a hell of a lot faster. When you first start out you can only choose from four cars, each with their own strong points, I recommend J.B. Crystal for beginners as it turns better and has a longer boost. With these four cars you can choose from three leagues, pawn, knight and bishop, as you progress through the game, completing these series on expert you can access the extremely hard queen series, as well as unlocking the better vehicles. So far I have managed to unlock two new vehicles and the queen series. As well as a new series and new cars, you can unlock the championship mode, this is very hard as you have to try and beat the record of a certain track. Sounds easy, but these records are very very good, however you do get some help in the form of being able to watch the replay of the record holders effort. To pass each each race you have to finish in the top three, if not then you lose a life and have to re-try again. This gives the game an element of difficulty, especially on expert where the other vehicles ram you into the side barriers. I find myself having to set new records on each track to win on expert, even to come second. Grand Prix This option is exactly as it sounds, you choos
e your vehicle, series and difficulty level, then test yourself against the pace of the game. As mentioned, you must finish within the top three to pass each level, which makes the game more difficult than games such as Mario Kart where you get points and try to win a league. The tracks get progressively harder as you go on. Does anyone remember the solidness of the last track on the original game? Here’s a clue, Firefeild, well, once you get the queen series, the last TWO tracks are variations of Firefield, both very very hard. Training This is exactly as it sounds, pick a vehicle, pick a level, choose whether or not to race against the computer, and practice your skills on any of the levels you have gained access to. Need practice on ice, or maybe there is a hairpin that just won’t quit buggin’, then this is the option for you. Championship As you progress through the game you can unlock championship mode, I’m not sure how many tracks you can get, but I have one so far. This is extremely difficult, the computer record is almost perfect, and very hard to beat. You can watch the replay of the record attempt, this will help you to not only understand how to beat the record, but how to do well in races, so this option is worth unlocking. Controls The controls are very simple, making this game highly addictive, you have A as accelerate, B as break, L and R help you to powerslide, and press them together for a boost, and the D-pad controls the vehicle. At the start of the race, if you press the accelerator at the right time, you can get a boost start, since I’m kind I’ll tell you that for the J.B. Crystal you press the accelerator on the third flash of the ready sign. The break is not important if you want to win, especially on expert, instead try letting go of the accelerator. L and R are very useful, when you turn left, press L, when you turn right, press R. the buttons help you
to turn sharper and prevent you losing too much speed. When you complete a lap you gain a boost, these are represented in the bottom right of the screen, this gives you a burst of speed, how long depends on the car. Ranking With this option you can look at the best times on each track for each of the three files on the game, or you can compare the times of all three files to see who is best. Another good thing about this option is that with a link cable you can compare the files of different games. Multiplayer This option is what makes this game a cut above the original, I haven’t had the opportunity to do this yet, but I’m going to as soon as I have the chance. With this you can have up to four players playing with one game, however with this you sacrifice sound and the background. If you have a Game Boy Advance, then you should have this. Even with the immanent arrival of Mario Kart Advance, it is a game well worth having. £30 seems a understatement for a game of this high, high quality.
The Game Boy Advance is the latest console from the gaming genius’ that are Nintendo, and with the short range of games available, all are worth buying. I have only just received my Game Boy Advance, and already have two of these quality games, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, and Rayman Advance. Rayman Advance is a platform game in which you control Rayman as he progresses through the levels, learning new skills and freeing his friends. Graphics The game has some impressive graphics, the game looks like its Playstation counterpart. When you play on this game, hoping through the colourful landscapes, you really can appreciate the power of the Gameboy Advance, and marvel at how such a small machine can produce such wonderful graphics. Game Play The game has simple controls, you move with the D-pad, jump with A, punch with B, and pull some nice facial expressions with R. The controls are simple but effective which allows this game to play a dream. However, be warned, this game is EXTREMELY addictive, you’ll find yourself playing on it for hours on end, and before you know it, you’ll be half an hour late for work, and I don’t think that the excuse ‘sorry boos, I lost track of time playing on my Game Boy’ is going to play too well. This game is really quite good, if you are going to be cashing in on the brilliance of the Game Boy Advance, then this is game that I recommend that you have. Rayman does have a rival though, and of course we all know who that is, just in case you don’t he is a plumber from Brooklyn and goes by the name of Mario. The king of platformers has a new, well not a new game, but a release of the classic Super Mario 2, ok, not the best release form the perky plumber, but a classic none the less. Hopefully Nintendo will be working on the (quite possibly the greatest platform game ever) great Super Mario 3. But until the day Nintendo release the best of the Super
Mario saga, Rayman Advance is the game to be playing. If you have a Game Boy Advance and not Rayman, why? Why are you so silly, come on, go and buy it.
There are a few wrestling games on the Nintendo 64, only two of them that I had played on were half-decent, those were WCW/NOW World Tour, and WCW/NOW revenge. These were two of the best wrestling games that I played on any console, only Smackdown on the Playstation was better. And then came WWF No Mercy. What a game! This game has everything, I am going to go as far as saying that it is the best wrestling game ever (although I have yet to play Smackdown 2). Just before I go into the options, I think that I should just point out my favourite aspect of the game. For those of you who don?t follow WWF, The King and JR are commentators, and The Rock, well, The Rock is THE most electrifying man n sports entertainment. When you leave the game to go into the intro, the screen goes snowy and then you here The King go ?so close?, and then JR saying ?he kicked out, he kicked out, he kicked out?, (which personally cracks me up), and then The Rock, with his trademark ?If ya smelllllllllllll?, then it kicks into intro. Here is all the handy info on all the options that you will need to influence your decision on buying this great game. There are three options screens, the first is the multiplayer mode, the second is the single player mode, and the third is the commissioner. But first I shall describe the multiplayer option. Here there are loads of options to satisfy your gaming needs Exhibition Here you can choose between having a one on one, a tag team match, a triple threat match, and the all out rumble in the jungle cage match. The one on one is just as it sounds, you and a friend, or you and the computer going for it, you do have the option to change the rules, such as knocking off the count out, knocking off submission, pin and TKO, and putting on interference, this means that someone during the match is going to run out and interfere with your ass kicking. Probably the best option, changing the DQ to have a no disqualification match, here yo
u can have some real fun, all you have to do is run out of the ring and grab a bat, chair, table etc, run back in the ring and begin to beat the hell out of your sorry opponent. The tag team match is where you can really have four player fun, you also have some options here that can make your match better. The best thing to do is to knock DQ off, put on no-tag format, and then just go for it. The triple threat match is another good option, you and two computer opponents, or you and some friends can have a three-way brawl and see who comes out top. A tip for all you who are going to buy this game (and you really should), in the triple threat, just stand back and taunt your enemies to get a special (with a special you can do your signature move, for example, ?Stone Cold? Steve Austins stone cold stunner, or The Rocks rock bottom). Then you just stroll along, grapple the nearest sucker and finish him off, then grab the other and take him out. The cage match is either hard or easy, depending on the difficulty of your opponent, and the skill of you. The basic idea is that you and you opponent are locked in a steel cage, and you have to climb out. Sure, easy, well so it sounds. You really have to take it to your opponent because if they get up while you are climbing the cage, he will shake it and you will fall. If the computer is on hard, they will crawl up that cage like spider man on steroids, and you can?t shake them down (a word of advice, hitting your control pad when they escape WON?T help). One of the best parts of these options is that you can put a title on the line. You can have a cage match for the Intercontinental title, or a normal one on one for the European title, whatever you want. Royal Rumble This is exactly what it sounds like. A royal rumble, a free for all, up to forty guys (only four at a time though) all fighting it out to see who can go the whole nine yards. You even get to change the rules a little, you don?t li
ke the way that if you get knocked out of the ring you?re out? Then change it. King of the Ring With this option you are basically setting up an elimination competition. You decide on what type of matches there are (tag-team, single etc) and the rules. This is not the best option, and quite frankly, the game doesn?t need it, they would have made better use of the memory by adding more superstars or options. Although, this is the ultimate way of finding out who really has the honour of being called ?the best? Pay-Per View This is one of the games best options, here you can make your own pay-per view. Make you own No Mercy, or Summerslam, or Wrestlemania. You can name it however you want, have it placed wherever you want, you can even pick which arena you use. You can have all the matches you want. You want a triple threat match for the WWF title, then that is what you get, you want Chris Beniot, Kane and The Rock all going for it, then hey, that?s what you get. Guest Referee This is another of the games best options, the opportunity to referee a match. You don?t have to referee the match, you can take part and have a friend or the computer refereeing. If you decide to be a ref then the best idea is to be in charge of a triple threat between some friends, you can really get on their nerves here, you can join in the action and starting beating whoever you feel, you can count out anyone getting on your nerves, you can do fast and slow counts just to be annoying. Although I find the best thing to do is to ref the match while getting a special, then join in and put everyone down, believe me, that is one way to annoy people. The other option, to be in the match with a friend in charge, this is good because if some decisions don?t go your way, then hey, turn around and smack that jabroni. Ladder Match This is has to be the best feature of the game. With this option there are no rules, but only to get
up the ladder at all costs. This is not as easy as it sounds, although it is a lot better than it sounds. What you have to do is really take it to your opponent, you have to either do the same submission move until their attitude bar say ?losing it? (the attitude bar shows how much spirit the wrestler has, if you are doing well, then the brighter it gets, if you are doing bad, then it goes from blue, to danger, to losing it), knock them out with your best moves, or put them in the tree of woe. Then you have to go outside the ring, get the ladder, set it up, and then climb it to win. Or if you want some real fun, really hurt your opponent, then climb it ladder and jump on them. If you are going to do this, it is better to be I high flyer than a big brawler, I find that on single player Jeff Hardy is the best at these matches, and on multiplayer the Hardy Boyz. If you really want a challenge, then this mode against the computer on expert is the one for you. Ironman Match With this option you have to decide on what you want to play, either one on one, tag team action, or a triple threat match. Is just another normal match, although there is a set time, for example, say you want a fifteen minute match, in that fifteen minutes you have to pin your opponent as many times as you can, and hope they don?t pin you more. The next of the three options is the single player. There are only two options on this, either a championship or a survival. Championship At the start of the game there are no belts, and this is the option to unlock them. Choose which belt you want to unlock, either the WWF title, the Intercontinental title, the European title, the Light-Heavyweight title, the Tag Team title, or the Women?s title. Basically you have to pick what wrestler is going to work his way to greatness, and then go through a number of chapters before finally unlocking the gold. As you progress through this you make money for every match that
you win, and at the end of the championship however much you make gets added to however much you have. Survival This is just as it sounds, you have to survive all of the wrestlers in a royal rumble style free for all. You start off with you and four other guys, and then every time you knock someone out another comes down. All in all, there are around 101 guys to beat, at the end of this you have to knock out the great Andre the Giant, once he comes down it is a sign that the end is nigh, knock him out and you have unlocked THE hidden character to get, oh and if you do win this you will find yourself with lots and lots of money. The third option available to you is the commissioner. There is no fighting here, this is where you find the options and what not. Smackdown Mall Here you have three options: Superstar Options ? this is one of the best options, you can make your own character, or modify a current superstar. With the ?create a superstar? you can make a guy and have him look how you want him to, and then you can give him almost every move on the game. In fact, I don?t like how hard it is just to decide on what special my guy is going to have, he currently has the snap powerbomb two (only available after unlocking Andre the Giant), but I doubt that it will last much longer. Shop ? this is quite good, here is all the ?stuff? that you can?t access in the smackdown mall. You buy stuff ranging from weapons to new moves, to new ring attire. You can also buy new characters in the heart break kid Shawn Michaels, Ken Shamrock, Earl Hebner, Cactus Jack and Ho, who I think is just someone the developers put in. Data ? with this option you can save your created wrestlers. This is good because if you and a friend have the same game and you have both got wrestlers who you think is the best, then you can pit them against each other and find out who really has the best creativity. Options This is just
as it sounds, here you can change certain things such as the difficulty level and such. Nothing really special. Now I have gone through the options, let me tell you about the good stuff. The game plays like a treat, OK, there is some slow down when you are in a tag team match and have got all the weapons available in the ring, the game slows down a bit, but that does not matter, it is still very, very good. The moves are a little slow to pull off, but they do look real, and painful, and cool, all at once. The graphics are good, especially when you are fighting by the titontron (the bit where the wrestlers walk out of), it just looks special. The wrestlers also look like the real ones, and the ring looks good, the only thing about the graphics that I can criticise id the way the fans look, they just look like pictures that move from side to side. With the games good graphics comes the games great sound effects, you can appreciate a good chokeslam with the graphics alone, but with the sound effects it really makes you feel that you have hurt your opponent as they crash on the mat. Despite all of the games great features there is only one downside that I can think of. This does not happen in all the games, only in a lot of the early releases. My version has memory problems, which is really quite annoying, when I get money to spend, or unlock characters, or unlock belts, they all get deleted, even the characters that I created (although I have a memory pack so I can save them). This does get on my last nerves, so if any one has this problem with theirs, email THQ in their website to get email authorisation, and then send it back.
Is this guy really good enough to take on the role of captain for England? He may well be the best player in the premiership, maybe even the world, but he does have a reputation of being shy and quite. Is leading by example good enough? I don’t think so, if one player plays well, it doesn’t mean that the rest do, we need a leader who makes his presence felt, like Roy Keane. With all his ability, is being tipped to be future captain really a responsibility David Beckham can handle? His recent performance as captain against Italy was impressive, but I think that someone like Sol Campbell would be a better-suited captain. But enough of whether or not he should be captain, another argument about David Beckham that needs resolved is the old ‘right side or centre’. Well it all depends on whom he is playing for, I think that for England he would be better suited out on the wing, as in the centre of midfield, I think that England are strong in the centre. The best suited midfield for England would be (from left to right) Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes, Joe Cole and David Beckham. When you look at what he can do with the ball out on the wing, you don’t need him in the centre, you want him providing the crosses for the likes Heskey, Sheringham, and Scholes. But if you are playing at Manchester United, he might be better suited for the centre, as what good is crossing the ball if your forwards are smaller than the average central defender. If you look at what he can do from free kicks as well, if you play him in the centre, he can take long shots and really test the goal keeper, and use his passing ability to thread a through ball, who Andy Cole Ole Solskjear can use their pace and acceleration to make the most of. But still, you can’t leave out the fact that he is the best in the world at crossing the ball. So there has to be a solution, keeping the fact that he is one of the best passers, and the best at crossing in the world. What
I would do is give him a free role, allowing him to go inside and test the goalkeeper, and allowing him to go out on the wing and delivering his deadly crosses And there’s yet another debate about him, is he worth £160,000 a week, well, that is a very steep price for Manchester United to pay one player. If you consider that Manchester United are the richest club in the world, with last seasons profits being higher than Europe’s biggest clubs, clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona, you have to think that they could afford to pay him what he wants. But that’s not the point, is it right to pay him that much, they had to break the wage structure to pay Roy Keane around £50,000 a week. And does one person need that much money, if you condier the amount that he gets anyway, and his wife makes enough money for both of them, and he gets millions in sponsors paying him to wear hair gel, and Adidas boots. I think that he is just being greedy, Manchester United should give him around £50,000, that would be enough for any player. Despite the number of people who hate him, he is still the best player England and Manchester United have, if not the best player in the world. I think that he is the best in the world, when you look at his ability, it is awesome, but he has an extra edge that others don’t, he has to be one of the hardest working players in the world, one minute he will be up in attack, the next he will be back helping the defence. On the whole, David Beckham is the best in England for sure, give him a couple seasons and he could be the best without rivals.
