Fleas and ticks are horrible little insects, when it comes to fleas they just jump around biting and breading, lying there eggs on your dog, one flea can quickly become hundreds or thousands if untreated, there eggs can fall of your dog all over the place mostly in there bed and all over your carpets, once hatched they will jump onto your dog and continue breading. They do bite humans but this is a last resort as they are choosy and prefer dogs. Ticks however are happy to attack both dogs and humans, Ticks wait for a host in the longer grass, country walkers are recommended to wear long sleeved tops and tuck there trousers into there socks, I must say I have lived in the country for years and have never had one but I do know people that have. A tick will attach itself to you or your dog and suck your blood for up to 10 days, this itself is not a problem, it is the diseases that they carry that is the problem, the longer they are attached the more chance of getting infected. If untreated these diseases can be fatal, Lymes disease is one such disease.
Removal of fleas is easy but unless you treat all your carpets you will be stuck in a circle, there are loads of shampoo's out there that will kill both the fleas and the eggs this is what I would use, other shampoo's will just kill the fleas leaving the egg problem, nit comes are good but will need to be used daily and your dog will need a lot of coming.
For removing ticks a tick remover is recommended, if you squeeze the tick blood and disease can be squeezed in to you or your dog, so being careful is a must. It is recommended that ticks are removed within 48 hours to minimise the chance of disease.
It does make a difference were you walk your dogs, but in most cases precaution is a better thing than waiting to get Fleas or ticks Bob Martin offers this protection, with ticks there is 4 weeks of protection and 8 weeks protection for fleas, I wish it was the other way around as ticks can be dangerous, this being said I will need to use this product every 4 weeks so that makes it of no consequence that the flea protection is 8 weeks.
Personally I will not buy this product again as it is not fully effective, the product I will be using is double the price and is recommended by my vet, the reason behind my decision is the fact that Bob martin failed and my dog got himself 3 ticks which is far too many for my liking.
To apply this product you need to part your dogs fur until you can get to the skin, squeeze half the bottle at the base of the neck and the rest between his shoulders, do not wash or let your dog swim for 48 hours and that's it, the bottle is small and plastic just brake the end off and its ready to use.
The concept of wearing gloves inside your gloves is a bit daft indeed, but in saying that I own a pair and that's what there made for. Personally I use these as gloves on there own, I do not get cold hands very often but there are times over the last few years when they have came in handy.
These gloves are very thin which they would need to be to fit inside another pair of gloves, they do for me without outer gloves, I can feel through the thin material almost as good as not having them on. With them being so thin it is not a problem fitting other gloves on top of them however getting the other gloves of will depend on the top gloves lining, most of the time they both will come of at the same time, on there own they are as worm as wearing a thin pair of socks, when used as liners they offer a greater an extra layer and we all know the more layers the better thermal insulation.
Why not just buy thicker more thermal gloves is a question most people will ask and I have got to say most people would be better doing this, but there are a few instances that call for these, two thin pairs will give you a thicker pair with the three options, this is something cyclists often do, they come in handy also for fishing were tacking of the thick gloves will still give your hands protection from the elements and still have the feel needed.
I mostly use mine in the morning, when its frosty these are great for the short period when I am scraping the windscreen, I also drive with these on until my car has heated up, the main problem is my gear knob is metal and feels like a block of ice these do great for the job of changing gears.
This is my second sensitive toothpaste review I was more than pleased with the results of the last one but Arm and Hammer seems to be better, I bought mine while it was on offer, like everything else this is by far the best time to buy, especially when the product seems to be over priced.
First thing is taste, this is not the best tasting toothpaste but its not the worst, one of the main Ingredient of this product is baking soda, this offers cleaning and whitening but gives the toothpaste a bit of an odd taste compares to the minty freshness of others, on the plus side my teeth feel cleaner and a slight improvement in the whitening area.
My teeth have been sensitive for a few years now and I would not dream of going back to normal toothpaste, this paste contains liquid calcium technology sounds good aye, this claims to repair teeth and seals them with a protective shield, also claims to fill tiny crevices to restore the enamel surface, I cant really say much about this but I can say my teeth feel nice as I rub my tongue across them, as for the sensitivity I have had no problem, so am very happy and will be getting this product again.
Lasting relief is offered on this which is very good but a bit confusing, according to this I have to regularly use for 8 weeks then I will have protection for another 8 weeks so its 16 weeks protection, the question is do I stop doing my teeth for 8 weeks, well no, looks like I am to guess at what to do, sounds like using a cheaper toothpaste is the answer but its not very clear.
Contains loads of ingredients that I have never heard of before, not suitable for children under 7 years old.
I think these are great, I have a small kitchen and don't have a cooker instead I have 2 of these, a George Foreman, and a microwave combo oven, with these I can cook anything to a high standard. They are very portable so they come in handy for many other uses from using in a caravan or to sit next to a barbecue, they do need a power supply however.
The way these work is different to normal hobs, they are made of plastic with a sheet of glass on the top, in a normal hob the hob its self will heat up then your pan gets the heat when sat on top, with this Induction hob the pan is the thing that heats up, this is done buy creating a magnetic field which induces an electrical charge directly into your pan, this is very efficient compared to heating the hob then the pan, basically you are cutting out the energy needed to heat the hob. This is not new technology but they are a bit more expensive to purchase than the other types of hob. Good pots are required so this might be an extra cost you may need to consider, an easy way to check is if a magnet sticks to them they are good for this.
The design of these are very cool so if you are sad like me you will want to show your friends and family, I keep mine sitting out all the time but as they are very light they can be put away easily. cleaning is also easy, a damp cloth and a gentle wipe is all that is required, if you spill food on the surface it can be wiped of straight away as the glass never gets too hot, food will not burn when in contact with the glass this is great for me and my splashy stirring technique, my hob still looks new after over a year.
Using these is slightly different too, the heat can be controlled more like gas, there are 4 buttons, a digital display and 4 lights, the on button speaks for itself, by pressing this the hob start up at mid setting of 5, a pan will be required on the hob before pressing the on button or it will not start, removing the pan will cut the hob off. The temperature is controlled by an up button and a down button, 1 being lowest 10 being highest, you need to keep an eye when using higher temperatures as it heats very quickly, it also cools very quickly so if your food is bubbling over pressing the down button will stop it straight away. Simmering takes a bit to get used to as it will switch from on to off when at the lower settings, but it works out the same in the end.
This is my favourite when it comes to beer or lager and it would seem its the country's favourite as well, that's good news as it comes discounted in most of the super markets most of the time.
First brewed in 1926 as a seasonal beer for the Christmas period in a brewery in Leuven, Belgium, the brewery that brewed this has been around for hundreds of years.
The original strength of this beer was 5.2% and it was quickly given the nickname of "wife beater" this was based on the supposed behavioural effects of the drink, Rum also has a similarly known name "the golden wifebeater" Rum is my second favourite drink after Stella, but I must say never had that effect on me, a more fitting name would be jibber jabber as after a good few that's all the talk you can manage. In 2008 they brought out a lower alcohol version sporting 4% which is still lot higher than a low alcohol beer. They sneaked the strength down to 5% at some point and then in 2012 it went down again to 4.8% I think this is for the UK market only though. They also have released a cider in 2011.
The production of this beer is now located all around the world as well as still being brewed in Belgium, UK and Australia are just 2 of the places now brewing it.
There are four ingredients in Stella these are water, malted barley, maize and hops this will give you about 200 calories per 440ml can or in other words a beer belly to be proud of.
There are 8 different bottle sizes available starting from 250ml up to 1 litre and cans start at 330ml and go up to a pint can with 2 other sizes in between, plenty to choose from and baffle the purchaser with pricing.
Almost forgot the good part, the drinking, first of I put mine in the fridge and 10 minutes before drinking I finish it of in the freezer, the taste is clean and crisp, goes down nicely and can be drank quickly without feeling bloated, although saying that it is best drank at a good pace as at 4.8% you will feel the effect of the alcohol quite quickly. Remember always drink wisely and enjoy.
One of life's little pleasures is cutting the grass when you have hay fever, this is a job I have done since I was still in nappies (I have photographic evidence to prove this). Back then it was man powered or little kid powered in my case. Moving on from this I had a petrol powered mower this was great apart from the maintenance so this time I went for an electric one.
First thing is to get it out the box, check the pieces and build the thing, there is not much to build and it is straight forward, the handle takes a few minutes just to screw in the bolts and the wingknobs a quick look at the picture is recommended but not really a must, the wingknobs make it easy to loosen the upper and bottom handles making it foldable for storage if required, the grass box comes in three parts upper, bottom and handle, the handle just gets pushed into place in the upper grassbox, goes in very easily but also pops out too very easily. Now comes the hard part fitting the top to the bottom, simply line up the two halves and clip the clips, this would be fine if it was not so flexible, get some in and then they pop out when trying to get the rest in, this is frustrating and almost got thrown across the garden but I got there in the end, an extra pair of hands would have helped greatly.
There are 3 cutting heights, so these can be set to 5 different grass levels, it has quite a powerful 1000 watt motor, also has a 13" metal cutting blade, this should last for a life time unless you are hitting stones with it, new blades cost about £18 and looks like it would be easy to change, screw driver and spanner would be necessary for this.
Once you have set the height of the wheels, it is time to cut the grass, plug the mower in to power supply, cable is fitted and has a moulded plug, its a good length of cable but I need an extension, to start the mower you need to press and hold a button in the middle of the handle whilst pulling the start lever, there is a left and right starting handle anyone will do, to stop just let go the lever. My grass is thick and healthy, this mower cuts through it with ease, the biggest problem is getting used to having a wire that always seams to get in the way.
To start with what is hay fever?, in simple terms it is an allergic reaction to airborne substances like pollen, dust mites or pet dander, eyes, nose and the sinuses, symptoms can vary from person to person from mild to extreme suffering.
It starts in the nose with sneezing, blocked and snotty, also makes the nose itchy along with the eyes, giving your eyes a quick rub is a big no as this just makes them worse, the throat also can become itchy, that's just the mild suffering, in extreme cases your eyes nose and throat can became inflamed making it hard to see and breath. Makes me really tired also.
This is my first time using medicine to get through the hay fever season, as I live in the countryside and have a dog I manage to get a good dose of pollen everyday, this year I had had enough, after looking at a few product I spotted this at less than a third of the price of the other products, I went for it, why pay for the name.
On the first day I took them It was 4 o'clock and can say I felt better very quickly, they are one a day but as I was still fine the next day I never took one, About 9 o'clock that night I could feel my nose starting to go but only just. The next day I took one in the morning then went out for a walk with my dog, I actually though my dog was smoking at one point as he ran through the long grass, but it was really puffs of pollen getting thrown into the air as he ran, this was a real test and I can say it went very well, my nose did start to go but nothing too bad, once I was back home it cleared up quickly, very pleased.
Other effects that these tablets have had are my heat rashes are gone woohoo, chopping onions is a nightmare for me, one time I felt like I was going to pass out, I could not open my eyes or breath, these tablets have sorted that out too.
If you only have mild hay fever increasing you vitamin C intake can help, regular fresh orange has helped me in the past, ginger can also a, ginger tea, crystalized ginger.
My last strimmer was a petrol one so I was always going to be disappointed I was not wrong, there is nothing wrong with this trimmer apart from the price, I would say it should be selling for about £10 less than it is. Get a 300w one more power and about the same price.
The product arrives in 3 peace's that needs to be clicked together, firstly the upper shaft needs pushed into the lower shaft, you cant go wrong here as it is straight forward, a good bit of strength is required here, secondly the guard need attaching again this is easy but needs a good firm twist to get it right on, so that's it ready to go just plug in and away you go.
It comes with a 6 meter fitted cable, so it is a good length for a small garden, also comes with a spool of cutting line, this is a manual feed system so stopping every 5 minutes or less to let out more line is required, there are to levers at the bottom of the spool these are pushed together easily and simply pull out required length of line.
The on/off button is in the ergonomic handle, press for on and release for off, this will build up a good strong wrist if you use it often, the 230w electric engine is very lacking in power, it really struggles to cut weeds even small ones, it has a cutting area of 21cm, but that means nothing if you have to go over the same place a few times to get results, I don't know why there's a safety guard unless they think people would be using this whilst sporting open toe sandals. Goggles are recommended whilst using, this must be health and safety for hay fever sufferers.
This is my second head collar, my other being a Halti, the Halti was about half the price of this Canny collar, I really thought they were much the same with the only differance being the Halti is conected to the lead under the chin, very handy for getting tangled with my dogs legs, even though my dog knows how to step back and lift his paw to get out of it, it is still a bit of a pain.
Buying the Canny collar took me a bit of time, was I really going to spend more money and at double the price for just another head collar, well yes I did and I am pleased I did, apart from the lead connecting behind my dogs head the canny collar pulls down on the dogs nose unlike the halti which can be pulled back into the dogs eyes very easily, in about 4 months of using the Halti my dog yelped out about 6 or 7 times not good and if your like me you will feel guilty.
There are 7 sizes for the Canny collar so measuring is a must, this is done just behind the ears, there is only 2 inches to each size for example the smallest is 9" to 11" and the largest is 21" to 23", there is a chart for the breed of dog but most of these say two sizes so thats only a small help.
There is also four colours black, pink, red and blue I went with the black to match in with my border collie's black fur.
The collar itself is good unlike some cheap rubbish that is around with cheap plastic clips this has a proper belt buckle and the eye holes are metal rings, giving a nice solid collar that fits really snug, if you measured correctly anyway. The head strap is not fixed to the actual collar but instead is fed through two metal square hoops on both side of the collarat the front there is a plastic guider simpy pull some of the strap though this and over your dogs nose and gently pull the strap tight, the plastic guider is pretty loose so I am not sure why its there as it would work the same without it. At the back of the dogs head there will be the two ends of the strap, these have metal hoops to attatch your leash to.
When not in use or when you are letting your dog run off leash simply unconnect the leash, slip of you dogs nose and pull the strap ends around dogs neck and were they meet clip together using the two metal caribina clips supplied.
Does it work, well yes but you will still need to train your dog, your dog will stop pulling giving you a chance to teach him what you want from him like walking to heal, your dog still needs to understand what is going on as using a leash of any kind is basically taking away his normal instincts.
If your dog gets out of the head strap he is still secure on the lead, it just means he is being walked like on a normal collar, getting out of the head strap while walking is not really possible but at times were you stop and the leash is very loose it will slip off easy, going though gates is an example of when my dog slips it off. He also slips it of when he is sitting on the grass verge waiting for cars to pass.
I got these to keep my feet fresh and cool in the hot weather, was thinking this would be great for athletes foot. Please note that these are walking sandles and are based on walking shoes/boots.
When I first tried them on they felt really comfy, fitted nicely, It was when I walked in them I noticed that the skin on the bottom of my feet were sticking to the rubber, this felt very strange and led to discomfort, every time I took a step I would feel the skin being stretched, not really what you want, to remedy this I used talc on my feet, fair enough this helped but it was visible, the other option was to keep my socks on, bit of a fashion no go but as I would not be sporting shorts with them I am sure I will get away with it.
They look very trendy and quite sporty taking them away from the traditional sandle stereotyping, the straps are patterned and sport the Karrimor name, the straps are secured to the sole very securely at 4 places, the front strap goes at the point were the toes meet the foot and is fully adjustable with the use of velcro, there is also a strap across the top of the foot just and behind the heal these are also adjustable by velcro. these straps are comfortable and also have added cushion protection at the main contact points.
The sole is made up of a large chunk of rubber making it a rather chunky sandle, the sole has a good tread on the bottom giving them plenty of grip and a good solid feel, a bit too solid for my preferance but I am sure I will get used to this over time. I am sure a membrain or lining of somekind would enhance this product greatly.
This is my first kindle and am very pleased. Be warned though this is not an upgrade for your Kindle e-reader, if you want to upgrade your Kindle e-reader get the paper white one as this is a Tablet with an app for reading e-books.
In the box you get a your Kindle, plus a USB cable along with the warranty leaflet and a small leaflet on how to charge and where the buttons are and thats it. The USB cable goes in at the bottom of the kindle, with the other end going into a power supply, as there is not a plug supplied this my be a problem for some and an additional purchase my be required, I found that my HTC charger and Blackberry charger will do the job, alternatively PC or Laptop USB slot will do, most modern TV's have USB slots in them, Personally I think this is a good idea as I have loads of chargers that have no use.
The build is very solid with an Full HD screen that claims to be reduced glare, yes it gives a crystal clear image but the reduced glare is a let down, I use screen protectors this is a bit of a must as the screen is easily marked or scratched, there are many cases for the Kindle that come whith these and also a hand stylus pen. There is an on off button on the left hand side and just above that there is the sound buttons. There are 3 slots on for the USB for charging or connecting to a computer to transfer files like photo's. There is a micro-HDMI slot cable not supplied but are only a couple of pounds, this is good for watching films on the bigger TV screen, basically turns your tv into a smart TV.
The sound port is at the top right this gives terrible sound quality even with good headphones.
The speakers are built into the back so face away from the user, it uses Dolby Digital Plus with dual driver stereo speakers, these are very small but give a very good sound indead .
To start using press the on button and the screen lights up with a lock screen simply drag the lock from right to left to gain access, this start screen is sometimes an image but if you are connected to the internet it will be an advert, these adverts can be removed at a cost of £10.
The start screen has at the top left "Maurice's Kindle" center top is the time and to the right hand side is your internet bars and power. Below this is a menu bar, Shop, Games, Apps, Books, Videos, Newsstand, Web, Photo's, Doc's and Offers. Bellow this are images of your recent activities as its touch screen you can simply drag your finger left and right to look through the images. Lastly in the bottom right corner there is a favourites star.
All the menu bars act in the same way apart from the web, touch the word you want for instance Apps, this will take you to your apps with an onscreen buttons for your apps that are stored on your Kindle and ones that are stored in your cloud, there is also a button for Store were you can buy Apps for almost everything you can think off. Anything you buy will be from the Amazon store apart from videos these come from Lovefilm and yes this is Amazon owned.
Apart from Being touch screen it has accelerometer, gyroscope, this will allow you to turn your screen on its side and the screen with smoothly change to be viewed in that position, I only use it in the same position apart from when im reading a book as using it sideways is more like reading a normal book, this feature is more for gaming Apps like motorcar racing were you streer by moving your kindle.
When you go to the web there apears three rows of small images these are most visited, trending now, and selected sites the last two seem to be American sites, I cannot find a way to change these as yet. There is also a search bar, bookmarks and History
There are two memory options 16 or 32 this is not very much and cannot be upgraded, on the plus side when you purchase anything it is stored in your cloud space, this means you can delete it on your Kindle and it will still be on you Cloud storage.
Navigation on this is straight forward just touch screen to go to what you want, there is a back triangle and forward triangle plus a home button to take you to the starter screen.
There is no set up for this piece of equipment, just charge and go, there is however a need to set up internet connection, for this you will need access to WiFi just follow the steps simple, if you dont have WiFi this product is not for you as it has limited use without it. It claims that the Dual band WiFi antenna gives faster and fewer dropouts, as far as I can tell this does the job as watching films so far has not been interrupted by buffering.
Additional there is front-facing HD camera with a built-in microphone as far as it goes these are only good for using with Skype, Skype for Kindle app is already on this device. It also features built-in Bluetooth the only use I can think of for this is to transfer Photos from your Phone or Laptop.
For the price this is a good little media player it has its limitations and purchasing this keeps you tied with the Amazon sales market.
This is a great device for keeping your dog entertained both mentally and physically.
The construction is of hard plastic, very strong, the bottom is filled with sand and will roll upright making it a bit more of a challenge to get the snacks out, it comes in two parts simply unscrew fill with dry food then screw back together, the upper half has a small hole for food to come out, most dry food can come out but there are some that are to big best to check as your dog will not be best pleased if he has been at it all morning with no reward, its a good size and my border collie can just lift and carry it and no more.
There are more good things about this toy than bad, my dog liked it straight away nudging it with his nose kicking it with his paws and running after it all over the house at top speed, all the time checking for anything that had fell out. To empty it takes my dog about 30 minutes depending on how much is in it and also the size of food.
The downside of this product is its hardness, my dog will chase it all over the house at high speed crashing into everything, banging it of the skirting boards and everything else thats about, personally I am not bothered but I would recommened it being used in a controlled area to limit damage.
My dog has had hours of fun with this toy and this will continue as even after 6 months it is still in very good condition.
This is my second Kong product that I have purchased the first was a Kong feeder which is also a great product.
Like all dogs my border collie loves treats and two seconds after giving him one he is wanting another, my dog rolls over or sits up with his paws in the air for his treats, but that only adds another second to treat time, with this the treats can last upto 20mins and he loves it.
The product itself is basically a hollow lump of rubber, it is quite solid when new but does get more flexable after use, I have had it for six months now and is still in good condition which is very good as used everyday plus my dog is a chewer.
The treats themself can be anything that fits in the hole at the bottom, if they are too small they will fall out making it too easy, if they are very difficult to get in they will be very hard for the dog to get out this makes the fun last longer but if the treat is not on of there favourite he will give up.
Getting them out is the challenge and the treat is the reward, to get them out my dog firstly picked it up in his mouth then threw it down in the hope that the treats would pop out, most treats would thats when I tried the slightly larger treats, to get these out he would krush the kong in his mouth and eat the crumbs as they fell out, after a few weeks he has learnt that if he holds it with the hole facing down and squeezes the treat will fall out, this means it takes him five minutes to empty instead of the twenty at the start but still very good for him.
Got this for my 8 months old border collie, his pulling was not too bad but was constant and was cutting our walks short by quite a bit. The first time I used it he still pulled but not as much, Second time out I adjusted it to fit a bit better as it was slightly loose the first time this worked a treat and he is now perfect whilst on the harness, the control over him was far better as a light pull on the harness would get him moving the correct way unlike a normal coller were he needed a good strong pull. Apart from the better control it is better for him as when you do need to pull him its his body and not his neck. He is happy with it on and it fits nice and comfortably.
The quality is of a good standard and is made of nylon, it feels very secure when it is on and is fully adjustable for a snug fit, this is important as having it fitted correctly seams to make it work best for a non pull walk. It is over priced for the materials used but is worth the price for what it does, if you have a freind with one try it out first as I have heard that it does not help for some dogs
Getting it of is easy simply loosen then pull it over the dogs head, then slip it from under the dogs front paws, getting it on however is more of a challenge, my dog sits nice to get it on so figuring out which way it goes is the problem once that part is done it is it slips over the head and the legs are lifted into the under body straps, if your dog does not sit still this would be a bit tricky to say the least.
I would recommend this product to anyone who wants there dog to walk better on a lead as it makes it a far more enjoyable time spent walking. I will be buying another if the need arises.
This film is set in the 80's possibly but not to sure about that as it is a Canadian film, the special effects also look like 80's.
The main plot is that a hobo turns vigilante, when the hobo gets arrives on a freight train he quickly relises that he is one of the most upstanding members of the community, the whole town is full of murderers, rapists, crooks and thats just the cops, when trying to purchase his lawnmower from the pawn shop for $49.99 he gets himself in the middle of a hiest, this puts him over the edge, grabs a shotgun and shoots the three robbers, because of his high morals he does pay for the shotgun before leaving, luckily for him it was the same price as the lawnmower, shotgun in hand he starts to clean the town up, one cartrige at a time, this gets the unwanted attention of the local evil crime boss and his stupid sons.
The violence was very over the top and very unrealistic to say the least, fair enough this is a comedy after all, apart from the fact the violence was not very funny, there is a good few funny parts in the film but these were more a kind of odd bizzare slightly funny kind of thing.
There is a lot of sick jokes in the film that most people wont like these involve children, pedo santa, torching the school bus full of kids, children getting pimped out, mainly to cops and santa, the list goes on, personaly I cant think of anyone who would enjoy them kind of jokes, it is an 18 certificate but not for me.
The main star is Rutger Hauer who plays the hobo, cant think why he did this film as he has been in far better over the years, Batman Begins and Sin City, others are Pasha Ebrahimi who I have never heard of and Molly Dunsworth who is also relatively unknown.
Extra's on the disc are two commentarys, the making, deleted sceens, alternate ending and a trailer, I did not watch these so cant review them.
