I have just watched American Gangster on dvd in the last few days and I've got to say I was pretty impressed. I was against going to the cinema to see it figuring I would get bored at watching a gangster movie shot now but set back in the 70's. But I was actually very appreciative of this very well made movie, Ridley Scott done a great job. The cast helped, these days Denzel Washington can do no wrong, and it was nice to see a rather chubby Russell Crowe in the 'good cop' detective role.
I new nothing about the movie, before watching other than the title, and the trailor at the cinema did nothing for me, but convinced by my movie mad/nerd husband I settled down to watch, a very long I might add, great gangster flick.
What I was particularly impressed with, was the plot to the film was basic it didn't run off on a tandem in another direction and as the film was set in the 70's and we are obviously in oo's the production team did a great job in keeping all the surroundings to the 70's, as there are a lot of outside shots, with cars and people walking by, and I didn't see a thing out of place.
The film is about drug running in the 1970's and denzel washingtons character basically cuts out the middle man and buys drugs directly from the source so he can sell it cheaper on the streets and undercut everyone, he is the main drug dealer around, makes millions until Ritchie roberts catches up with him.
A must see for any movie lover, if you have a spare 3 hours. Don't let that put you off though it really is great.
I have got to say that I am totally addicted to this game at the moment. I don't play many DS games as I get bored easily, I play brain training as thats quite good for you and wakes up your brain. But touch darts is all about competition.
Basically you start out as a complete novice and go up through the ranks beating different players until you become a pro. Its quite easy to start with once you get the hang of it. You start beating all these players as you get treble 20's and the other players are getting 1's and 3's, but then as you progress, the darts players you play against can all hit the double top when needed or the treble twenty and you realise that you've got to be on top of you're game at all times with maximum concentration.
its quite addicitve, I often set up multi player so my husband can try and beat me, he never does but he's always up for trying.
The graphics are quite good, its colouful and looks like you're really playing at the different locations. The board changes depending on where you are playing too. Sound effects are good too with the feel that you're in a pub full of spectators.
I only really like the sport games and this one is up there with the best of them, I would recommend to all.
I have been using clinique superbalanced makeup for the last 14 years, that makes me feel really old saying that, I'm only just 30!!
But i've got to say that I have had no need to try another brand. It covers any blemishes perfectly and stays on all day. I have no worries that it will start to melt in the sun or even if I get hot it stays in place and works really well for me. I have combination skin, dry in places, oily in others and this makeup really balances out my skin for a great look .
I would advise though to use a makeup sponge to apply this foundation, as I find by using fingers can leave it a little streaky, and don't forget the tide mark, always put the foundation down below the jaw line as you don't want an unsightly line where you have stopped putting the foundation.
Also very quick and easy to remove, I use olay daily cleansers that wipe the makeup off quickly and easily. An all round great foundation and not too pricey either.
Hotels in Orlando, Florida are generally quite good but to be honest if you go there on the cheap like we have done a few times you get what you pay for.
It really depends on what you do on holiday, if you are out all day everyday and merely just need the hotel as a base to store your clothes and sleep in, then the basic hotel/motel will suit you just fine.
If you like to spend time and go back to the room and get ready for a night out have a few drinks and relax then I would suggest paying a bit more for your hotel, as from personal experience going back to a bog standard room thats dull and maybe not the cleanest is not pleasant. I spent the least amount of time possible at one hotel we stayed in, and to be honest its not nice and kind of ruined my holiday knowing that I wasn't comfortable with the hotel room.
The location wasn't good, on the road next to Old Town, so there was lots of noise. There was no swimming pool which didn't really bother me as wouldn't have used it anyway, as I find hotel rooms pretty much reflect the rest of the hotel ammenities. The balconey doors didn't seem to shut properly, which I have found to be the case in lots of the cheaper hotel in Orlando, a quick maintanance fix to a door that clearly needs to wripped out and done again is quite satisfactory in America.
So my advise after staying in plenty of hotels in Florida is to pay that little bit extra so you have a nice, comfortable stay in the Sunshine state!!
American idol is by far one of the best shows on tv at the moment, I think I have watched every single season and this one is up there with the best of them.
They haven't all been great, there have been some right bores on the show, but I think on this particular season they have catered for all types of music. Although with me not being a beatles fan I didn't love beatle week or Lennon/maccartney week, but the performer made it watchable for me.
This year I actually like quite a few of the contestants and not jut their singing abilities. Quite a few of them actually have a personality but please come on american TV audience is David Archuleta really going to win, come on he's not the best he's just got the young cute factor going for him, I think it should be a 3 horse race Michael Johns, David Cook and Carly Smithson I did really like brooke White but she has become a little boring of late, so come on guys vote for the rocky people, the closest a rocker has come to winning it is bo Bice and Chris daughtry, I think its about time.
So if you have a spare couple of hours a week watch American idol its by far, better than X Factor, the music song choices are better and the banter between the judges is just enough, although its quite tough watching Paula Abdul warble on about how great the contestant looks and not really comenting on the singing performance not really sure why she's there, god does she go on.
Kerry Katona is not everyone's cup of tea, and to be honest she's not really mine either. Very chavtastic not the best role model in the world. But I can't help but watch this car crash tv show.
Its actually quite addictive and I find myself religiously setting my sky planner to record it and becoming increasingly fustrated that it won't do a series link for it.
Its basically a running documentary of the Katona household at present. It shows Kerry and her former cabby husband Mark in their everyday life doing the normal things that families do, and the not so normal things that celebrities do.
You've got to admire Kerry for letting the general public see her upclose and personal life, I read somewhere that she was doing the show to show people what her and her husband are really like, as the public hasn't seen a very good perspective of her husband through the media so far.
I personally wouldn't have bothered as he comes across worse than what I thought he was like, and they both don't seem to spend much time with their kids. They would probably argue the point that they do not want the kids seen on TV, so if thats the case then don't do a tv show that portrays you as a couple always going down to London or out for the day without the children.
Buts its good to watch, and I'm pretty sure she's not bankrupt, judging by the amount of money they spend.
This has got to be the best show on TV . I didn't watch it when it was on channel 5 as I missed the first few episodes, so I rented it on DVD and I've got to say thats the best way to watch a tv show. You have a straight 45 minutes of Michael Scofield and co with no ad breaks, pure tv heaven.
So what I like about this tv show is the genuis plot. The brother of a man who is sent to prison, commits a crime bad enough on purpose to be sent to prison with him, confident that he'll be able to break both of them out, as he is a structual engineer and knows just how the prison was built.
A bit far fetched you may think, but honestly I couldn't recommend this tv show more as there are many twists and turns along the way, and the entire season one focuses on them planning the escape. Almost getting caught on a number of occasions, I don't want to give too much away if you haven't seen it yet but lets just say a few more convicts tag along on to the eventual escape than first planned , and not everything goes according to plan.
A fantastic tv show that will keep you watching on the edge of your seat to the end of the series and if your anything like me pining for season 2 to start.
Scar Tissue gives any chili pepper or Anthony Kiedis fan a great insight into the highs and lows of the life lead by the peppers front man so far.
Starting from his early childhood living with his mum. Where he seemed to lead a pretty normal life leading through to moving in with his father in LA and being introduced to drugs and alcohol in his early teens. The book then goes through to meeting flea at school getting up to no good like jumping into a pool from the top of a building and breaking his back and then starting the band.
We learn of his life, how he grew up, what made him get into music, how the chili pepers were formed, who left and who they took on board.
It really is a good insight into his life and his battle with drug addiction, how it gets hold of you and how he's coped over the years with people close to him that have died from taking drugs.
Its not for people who just want to know about how the chili peppers were formed and their story so far. Although as the band is a big part of his life you do get a good insight into the other members of the band, how they get on and some of the trials and tribulations they have been through together as a band.
A thoroughly great read in my opinion, very well written and very long, which is just what I like from an autobiography.
This is a truly well written fantastic book, which I would recommend to any dog lover. But I think if you own a labrador in particular then whilst reading this book you will constantly see the similarities between Marley and your furry friend.
The story is basically about John Grogan and the life of his loveable yellow labrador. You are taken through all the trials and tribulations of this dogs life, whether he was naughty or just a normal labrador, its up to you to decide. I personally think he's just a loony Labrador and typical of the breed. He gets into lots of mischief and is scared stiff of thunder, but after all the problems he's caused his owner, like destroying the house he truly is a loyal one of a kind Labrador.
This is truly a great read, I found myself laughing out loud one minute and then crying into a tissue the next, as you get so involved and attached to this dog as you read about his life you actually really cry when he passes on. I struggled to read the page when he did actually 'go to the bridge' and I'm pretty sure even the hardest of males will do too.
So if you're off on your holidays any time too and you want a book that you just can't put down, then this comes highly recommended from me.
I bought my husband the Apple iphone for Christmas and he absolutely loves it, he never stops banging on about all its features, always showing me what this button does he never seems to tire of it.
I must admit it is pretty good a phone, ipod and sat nav all in one little handset.
The phone itself is quite basic it does everything you need it to do text messaging, make calls , taking photos but I am quite disappointed that you cannot take video footage. This comes as standard in most phones these days so its surprising that this new technology does not contain this feature.
The ipod thats installed holds more songs than anybody can listen to in any length of time, so thats a plus and the sat Nav is amazing the way it pin points your exact location even when you haven't typed it in.
So overall its great even the internet access is good, I would recommend it to anybody, the touch screen is appealing and it is very light to hold.
We always visit Islands of adventure when we go on holiday to Orlando. There is something there for the whole family, whether its a gentle ride through Dr Suess' cat in the Hat or a rip roaring adventure on duel where two roller coasters go at the same time and get extremely close to each other, you'll be sure to have a fun time at Universals Islands of Adventure.
My personal favourites are Spiderman which is a kind of simulater ride but you do actually move around back and forth in a cart. The big screen grafics make you feel like you are really jumping and swirling between skyscrapers in the city, its a bit jerky but an absolute thrill.
The other is the Hulk, which is from the movie the Incredible Hulk. Its a basic rollercoatser, but you start in side when you get on and you are shooted at full speed right from the off up out of a tunnel and before you know you are riding high on this breath taking roller coaster, if you can bare to open your eyes its worth it to take in the view of the rest of the park, because as with all coasters they are over before you know it, and you won't get a better view from any other ride at islands of adventure.
There are plenty of restaurants, but we don't usually bother as they can be expensive, you're better off having a big breakfast before you go in and then catching some tea on your way home.
We go to Orlando nearly every year and we have learnt not to go in the English holidays as the queues are hurendous it seems that the only tourists in orlando at that time are British. So if you don't want to spend most of your days queuing, its best to go when the kids are suppossed to be at school.
A lot of the time the weather is good so if you need to cool down then the jurassic park river ride is excellent for getting wet albeit a bit scary along the way too.
There are loads of restrooms around the park just pick up a map as you enter the park and stroller/pushchairs can be hired near the entrance for a small charge.
Hope you enjoy your adventure if you go there, we are never disappointed!!
I wasn't sure how this was going to pan out when I went to see it at the cinema a few weeks ago, I like a good action film but could Sly Stallone really pull this off more than 25 years after the first instalment was made. My answer to that is yes. Stallone is back as John Rambo and he is meaner and angrier than ever. With a bigger budget and better effects this film surpassed my expectations, he still dosen't say much in the film but thats what Rambo is all about.
The story line is basic but thats all it needs to be, as the film shows john rambo doing what he does best fighting and killing people all justified I might add.
So the outline of the plot is that Rambo is living in Thailand, catching snakes, for some tourist side show, when he gets approached by missionaries who want to go up river and help people in war torn Burma, where people are being killed and children taken to be used as soldiers.
Rambo agrees to help take them, after a sticky moment on the river where they were stopped by the local infantry unit he gets them to their destination in one piece, he knows that trouble lies ahead for them but leaves them to it as he dosen't want to get involved he is trying to lead a peaceful life these days.
A few days later he is approached by the minister incharge of the missionaries with concerns over their safety as he has not heard from them, so as John new their last exact location he takes a group of mercenaries to the spot where he left the missionaries, once there John Rambo cannot just let the rescue mission go on without him and proceeds to show us the rambo we know and love, all fighting and all killing, for a good cause I might add.
A great action film and a must see for any rambo fan, Rambo is back and angrier than ever.
wow this piece of equipment is an absolute godsend. I have a 19 month lab who walks quite nicely on a lead but can pull at times, especially when he sees a cat add to this equation a 9 month Golden retriever who is very excitable and can't wait to get to the open grass area, and so pulls like a trooper.
Before I bought the halti I could often be seen being taken for a walk by my two dogs rather then me taking them for a walk. The halti is fantastic and as soon as I put it on my Golden retriever he instantly walked nicely beside me, no more sore hands where the lead cut into me trying to stop him from pulling, he walks like he is on his best behaviour at all times I could not quite believe it the first time I put it on.
The halti goes around behind his ears and over his nose and then you connect his normal lead to the bit that dangles down, leaving him room to open his mouth , yawn or have a drink of water, so not restricting him in anyway, its just enough pressure on his nose to think twice about pulling whilst he is wearing it.
I now have great walks and don't have to worry about being pulled over by a very strong excitable puppy.
This item comes in different colours and sizes and can suit most breed types. I recommend to all dog owners who's dogs pull on leads.
But I must add that it dosen't suit all, I tried it on my lab, and it made him pull worse and walk kind of sideways trying to get away from it.
I love this hoover, I have two dogs and a cat so I need this item. I use it nearly everyday, well everyday at the monet as one of my dogs is shedding its hair like there is no tomorrow, he'll be bold by the summer if he dosen't stop. But this machine sucks pet hair up brilliantly, I could never get another hoover after using a dyson. I am on my third Dyson now in about 8 years, not bad considering I use it nearly every day!!
The first I had was just a normal Dyson, then we introduced dogs into our house after about two years so I invested in the Dyson animal to make sure I got all the dog hair off the furniture, I love having dogs but the hair can drive you mad unless of course you have the Dyson Animal, then you have a hair free home if you keep on top of it.
The Dyson Animal can be a bit more expensibe compared to the normal version, but I personally think that its well worth the extra money. They last a long time, and don't stop sucking hair up!!
This cd is growing on me, at first I just wanted the single Umbrella in my collection which I was going to download on to my Ipod, but then my husband bought me the album for Christmas and I stared to listen to the other tracks and I was like wow the other tracks on here are good. I especially like 'don't stop the music' its an up tempo song with a good beat and something you can dance around the house listening to, if you're anything like me whilst loading the dishwasher. Also the track featuring Ne-yo 'hate that I love you', this is a slow song but really well written and the contrast between the two artists works brilliantly. I would definately recommend this album to any R&B fan out there, its one to have in your collection. Rihanna has cemented herself in the R&B world of music with this album and i'm sure theres great records to come from her in the future.
