Malorie Blackman's Noughts and Crosses is an intense and rewarding story of courage, determination and belief. The passionate love story between two friends living in two different worlds inspires the readers to not only see the main plot but also to live in the story. For Sephy, life is natural luxury but what appears to be simple at first goes deeper than can she can ever imagine. Being in love with a Nought is not easy. She is frowned upon every day she spends with him. Callum lives day by day. For him, life is a duty. Not only has he been brought into a Nought family, he carries the burden of loving a Cross. Noughts and Crosses is a book about love and hate. Noughts hate crosses; crosses hate noughts. Noughts are thought to be inferior, and so try to help their cause through violence. Crosses are powerful, but don't give noughts a fair chance. The cause of all this is simple: noughts are white and crosses are black. This book is not for the faint-hearted. Some of the issues tackled are not suitable for people who like a book with a lovely end. As a result, I would say that only secondary school students and above would enjoy this book. Having said this, I thought that Noughts and Crosses was one of the most exciting books I have ever read. It combines secrecy, love, war, politics and racism. Overall, I enjoyed reading Noughts and Crosses, and defintely had me on the edge of my seat. Thanks for reading
I have been looking for new mascara as I usually stick with the sane one and as this particular brand, Scandal eyes has been advertised I was persuaded into buying this mascara. Rimmel Scandal Eyes Show off Mascara is £6.99 in Boots and also available in many other stores, such as Superdrug. I really like the packaging of the mascara, it's a bright purple and quite bulky, which can be a disadvantage as its harder to hold. The brush applies easily without poking into your eye and there isn't any clumping, mess, or fuss during application. However, brushing it through a few times it resulted in clumps. The result is more of a fluttery lash look than anything else. There isn't a ton of drama here but it does produce doll-like lashes that are longer, curled, and slightly fuller. The mascara is a gel-like consistency that coat lashes with a lightweight finish which enables curl to last a good deal longer without weighting lashes down. It doesn't say it's waterproof on the packaging but i didnt have many issues with it smudging. If you want a light lash look Rimmel Scandal Eyes Shadow Off Mascara should serve you well but if you're looking for a fuller lash look with a ton of length you might wish to pair it up with another mascara for better results. I failed to see dramatically longer lashes from this formula nor did I feel like it made my lashes look super full. Thanks for reading
I have recently bought a new washing machine, the Hotpoint WDAL8640 after using a Hoover for nearly 15years! The washing machine looks very stylish and modern, with many different cycles to choose from. The appliance comes at a standard size, not being too big or too small with the dimensions (cm) (H) 85.0 x (W) 59.5 x (D) 60.5. The Hotpoint WDAL8640 lifts heavy stains and saves money on your wash, the washer dryer gives you an 8kg drum which washes up to 40 T-shirts and dries 6kg (that's around 21 wet T-shirts). There's an anti-stain wash which uses a constant temperature to help lift out stubborn marks, while the eco wash uses small bursts of energy over a longer wash to keep your electricity costs low. It's so effective this model is rated A for efficiency and costs just £27.46 a year to run. Very impressive for a machine that does the job of two appliances in one. The machine has an energy consumption 1.04 Kwh and water consumption of 73 Litres. The appliance is super silent with the noise level on 66dB! There are 16 different programmes with variable temperatures. If you want your clothes material to remain the way you bought them, there are even wool and cotton settings, which however, take a bit of getting used to. I would definitely recommend this machine it just takes a little amount of time to get used to work it due to the many different buttons. Thanks for reading.
I bought this body spray as the packaging caught my eye. It is bright pink in colour and so it is is easily seen on the shelf. It can be found in supermarkets and shops such as Boots and Superdrug. I bought this from Superdrug for 99p which is a good price and cheaper than brands such as Impulse. It is 75ml in size which I think is the standard size of body sprays. It comes with a lid and a pop down nozzle so it is easily sprayed. To spray it you should hold it 15cm from the body and spray. I would say the body spray lasts the same amount compared to impulse and you can smell the scent on you during the day. But it not as effective as spraying perfume. The scent has a mix of red fruits, tangerine and vanilla and it is quite a floral scent. It does state that it is extremely flammable and to protect it from sunlight so you should be careful with how it is stored. I give the bodyspray 5 stars and would have no problems buying this again.
I've bought paracetamols from Tesco and found these are cheap enough to buy at 19p a pack for 16. The packet is just like the one in the picture above. The paracetamols can be bought either in caplets or in the round tablets. I find the caplets are easier to swallow and so prefer using these. They are a bit more expensive than the round ones, but it is only a matter of pennies so I find it worth it. The packaging has that the paracetamol is fast on pain and easy to swallow and I agree with this. Paracetamol is good pain relief for when you have any headaches or toothaches. You should swallow the tablets with a drink and can take one or two tablets up to 4 times a day. Children can also take paracetamol if they are ages between 6-12 years they can have half to one tablet upto 4 times a day as required also. I find these just as good as the more expensive brands and would have no problem recommending these. I give them 5 stars.
I had been looking around for a new board game for a while and was finally decided to buy Monopoly. Considering all the goodies you get in the box, Monopoly is one of the great bargains of board gaming. You can buy a copy for something like £10 - £15, and many other games cost much more: £20, even £30! And Monopoly seems to be very widely available compared to other games. You can probably walk into your local Asda or Tesco and just pick up a copy of Monopoly. Also, since other board games are typically shorter in duration than Monopoly (say, 45-90 minutes, compared to Monopoly's 3+ hours). Component quality overall is very high, especially considering the low cost of the game. The first thing that struck me when unboxing it was the values of the counters you play with, such as, a hat, a shoe, a car, a thimble, a boat and an iron... these are made of satisfyingly heavy die-cast metal. You also get a large number of very well made plastic houses (green) and hotels (red, larger) that get placed on the board. These fit in perfectly with the building/economic theme of the game, and make you feel like you are a real landlord during the game. There is a large set of title deeds made of cardboard squares that present all the relevant data for each property very clearly, and two decks of cards: Chance and Community Chest (each with a unique game effect- a twist that helps keep repeated plays from feeling the same). Finally, there's an ample supply of paper money in a rainbow of eye-pleasing pastel shade. The rules of Monopoly is simple: you roll a pair of die and move your counter clockwise around the board the number of spaces given by the sum of your dice. Once you've moved your token, if you land on a property that no one owns, you may buy it from the bank. If you don't want to buy it, the official game rules say that the property goes up for auction, (but in my group we've made a rule that forgets this whole silly auction thing, we feel it's unfair that someone who didn't land on the property her/himself should be allowed to buy it. Once you own properties, you collect rent from other players whenever they land on them. Properties belong to colour groups, and when you own all the properties of a particular colour group, you have what's called a "monopoly", and you can begin to build houses and hotels on the properties in your monopoly, greatly increasing the rent you can collect. Your goal is to bankrupt the other players and be the last one left with money - then you win. One of the wonderful and novel things about Monopoly is that all the losers get kicked out of the game, one by one, as they go bankrupt. Altogether, this set of thematic and beautifully crafted components make the game much more enjoyable however, I think it would actually be refreshing to have a game where you could just open the box and just play without having to suffer through dealing out money, placing the chance and community chests and most of all getting the game really started. After watching the film, I really wanted to buy the books and I was so happy to see as I got it as a present. I have to admit that when I first started reading The Hunger Games, I wasn't quite sure if I liked it or not, at the beginning of the first chapter the scene is being set and not much happens, but when you read on, and I assure you that by the time you have reached the end of the chapter, you will already be engaged in this gripping book. For the last 74 years the Hunger games have been held, each district of Panem (12 districts) sends in two tributes to participate in the hunger games (one boy and one girl, determined by a lottery) for a fight to the death in an arena which consists of mountain ranges, forests, lakes and a golden horn containing supplies for the games. One of my favourite characters is Rue because she's so fragile and sensitive she has low chance of winning because she's so small and she can hardly compete against the strong careers. I also like the character Foxface because she is sly and cunning; she doesn't have an intention of killing but instead hides and stays out of the action. The Hunger Games' ultramodern setting, courageous realism and thrilling plot are a refreshing change from the genre of fantasy, so anyone looking for something different to the average teen book won't be disappointed. This exciting, fast-paced book is filled with twists and turns, and with its very feasible and remarkable plot, it is a book superior to most others. So enjoy... and Happy Hunger Games! The author of The Hunger Games is Suzanne Collins, the book was first published on September 14, 2008. The Hunger Games has a few genres such as science fiction, this is included because there are computer generated wolves also it includes adventure because they are in a new place, lost and looking for water and food. I also think it includes romance as there is a love triangle between Peeta, Katniss and Gale. I don't think there are really any ways in which the book goes against its genre because adventure is about an exciting or very unusual experience, it's to risk and venture which the Hunger Games is all about. It is partly science fiction because of the technology but not really all geeky, but definitely romance because of the love triangle. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a novel written for young adults (YA). Even though the main audience targeted, the book has been read by parents as well and has been a best seller since it came out. The cliff hanger ending left it impossible not to read the second book. The book teaches that life is about survival and everyday Katniss and other people of Panem can't relax but they have to work hard just to feed their family. I learnt that people will do anything for their family even risking their lives. I would recommend this book to other people my age, some adults really enjoy the book as well but most say that it's young fiction since it's based on teenagers. You can buy the trilogy from WHSmith as a box set for only £15.34 (paperback version). I would buy this, if your into that kind of genre or if you're looking to read something new Thanks for reading
I have a playstation 3 and Fifa is one of the games that is most played on it. Fifa is a popular playstation game and is known as a huge hit and I think it is by far the best football game on ps3 and the Xbox. Fifa can be played by one or two players. The game offers many different features to play such as career mode, tournament mode and creating tournaments and one that I really like is ultimate team which allows you to create your own team. This is quite a popular choice of game play. There are also fantastic new features like when waiting for a game to load instead of having a one on one with the goal keeper (which becomes boring after a while and just like a normal match) there are a variety of different skill modes to play giving you challenges to complete in relation to different skills such as dribbling, shooting and free kick. Apart from this improvement in the game I would say it is still quite similar to Fifa 12. Therefore you might want to wait for the newer game to be released if you are just upgrading Fifa 12 or wait for the price to drop and get it at a cheaper price. If you are not a regular player of the Ps3 then obtaining an older version of the game would most likely be cheaper and still fun to play. The cost of Fifa 13 however is currently at £30 from Argos and as there are sales on at the minute it may be possible to find it even cheaper. Fifa 13 consists of the same football teams - Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid etc, making game play as realistic as possible in terms of teams and players. The visuals and graphics are really good and you can tell it is a good quality game. Commentary within the game is realistic and up to speed. The controls are also easy to get a hang of and are good to use. I felt this is a good game and would recommend it, I rate it 4 and a half stars out of five. I would have given it 5 stars if it had more improvements or features on it which make it more different to older versions but my initial thoughts were that not much has changed.
Bic is quite a popular brand of pens and one that I have bought and used several times. They are biro pens that come in a range of colours from blue, red, black and green. They can be sold separately in individual colours or part of a multipack. I tend to use them all but mainly purchase black pens the most as I prefer writing in them more. The pens can either come in a pack of 5, 10, 25, or 50. So they do range in quantity depending on how much you would need them. I buy packs of 5 mainly as the pens are long lasting and so they last a long time before they run out or need replacing. What I like about the bic pens is that they write really well. They are comfortable to hold in my hand and the quality of the ink is good and comes out easily on to the paper. These pens are a medium point which I find to be the most common in terms of everyday use. The design of the pen is also eye catching and it is clear to tell when you are using one of these bic pens. The body of the pen is clear and you can see the ink levels of the pen instantly so you can tell if they are running low which is also quite useful. The lid of the pens matches the colour of the pen so you can easily tell what colours they are. In terms of price the bic pens cost £2 for a pack of 5 and can be found in most stationery shops and supermarkets. They can also be found sold individually for around 30-50p in stationery shops too. I think this is pretty much the standard price of pens and they are of good value. When sold in multipacks, the bic pens are packaged in a yellow packet which is easily spotted on the store shelf against other products. The packet is also clear so you can see what the pens look like inside. I give the bic cristal ball point pens 5 stars as I can't fault it and think they are of good quality, so I would recommend these. Thanks for reading.
When I was looking for a new pair of shoes, I had no intention of buying converse or paying that price, but soon as I tried a pair I knew that I wanted them. I bought my pair of burgundy converse for £40 pound at schuh. I remember trying these on in the store and loving them, they weren't comfy to start off to be honest and I found the sole quite hard but this didn't stop me buying them as the look of them was pretty cool and stylish, I don't often wear trainers but these are different. After a few days of wearing the converse they became very comfortable and I was wearing them nearly every day. The converse is made up of the material canvas with a rubber sole. It has cotton fabric inside which is comfortable to slip your foot into and they have thick white laces with white rubber at the front of the trainer and also along the edging of the trainer, this gets dirty and becomes muddy easily (if you wear them as much as me!) but also comes off easily with a little bit of a scrub. It also has the converse label above the laces and at the back of the shoe, the logo at the back wears off after a few months as it made from rubber. The converse are also available in hi tops which means they come up just past your ankle, which I preferred, and they also have the bigger converse logo (circle with a star) however, my ankle was to small and therefore they creased and would not be suitable. Converses also range in colours, from black, white, blue and purple. If you like the style of them it is well worth looking into the different colours available as you are bound to find one you would like. They are seen as a timeless classic as they go with all casual Jean's/Cords/dresses/ nearly all outfits. The only downside I see with Converse (and all canvas footwear in general) is there all-weather suitability, as you would expect they aren't especially waterproof but if you do go out in the rain you can just stick them under a dryer. They are long lasting footwear though and do not wear out quickly. For some reason my feet get colder in these than standard trainers, I'm not sure if this is because of the sole or just the weather, but I would still recommend them as they are comfortable and stylish. You can purchase converse from different stores such as JD, Office and Schuh. At the moment they're £43 from Schuh Thanks for reading.
After receiving Dolce & Gabbana's The One as a gift I was pleasantly surprised and looking forward to taking a sniff of the perfume. I have worn Dolce and Gabbana perfume Light Blue previously and really liked it and so hoped this Dolce and Gabbana product would be just as good. The smell is lovely! As soon as I tried it I was not disappointed. It's quite strong so you don't need to wear a lot which is handy since the bottles aren't that big. The smell is unique and different to other perfumes I have used and it feels sophisticated. The vanilla mandarin and peach blend fantastically well, each complimenting the other. It also stays on for a long time so there is no need to keep re-spraying, I put mine on in the morning and I could still smell it hours later. The bottle is packaged in a gold, cardboard box, with Dolce & Gabbana written in black and the 'the one' just below. Underneath the name it informs you that it's an Eau De Parfum(which will last longer than the toilette version), Natural spray and the volume in my case 50ml. At the back of the nicely packaged box there are the ingredients and cautions, such as flammable. When you open the box is it also protected with another layer of black cardboard. The bottle is also gorgeous and the gold effect of the lid makes the product look so glamorous and beautiful. The perfume is a rectangular bottle, with the lid being the same. My one complaint about this fragrance is the shape and size of the bottle, it's square and angular, and I have small hands. I wear my perfume on my neck, and it's awkward for me to hold the enormous bottle behind my neck while spraying. I'm always worried that I'll drop it when using it and so have to be extra careful when applying. The price can also be seen as a negative, as you'd expect from D&G it is quite expensive. Here are the following prices currently from The Perfume Shop: Dolce & Gabbana The One EDP 30ml Gift Set - £37.50 Dolce & Gabbana The One EDP 50ml - 53.50 Dolce & Gabbana The One EDP 75ml - £68.50 If the price was a bit lower than I would definitely rate it top marks, however, I give this product 4 out of 5 stars as it can be quite an expensive perfume. Thanks for reading.
I once bought two cheap straighteners, one was broken, another cost me an hour every morning to deal with my hair, and the result was still not ideal. Every time the hair touched a bit wet air, it lost the shape and became awful. Then I had to spend ages fixing it again. I could not be bothered to cost nearly one hour on my hair nearly every day, so I checked online and found GHD was a good brand and recommended by many users. The first time I used it, I know I got the right thing. For a quick straighten it only costs me ten/fifteen minutes, but my hair still reacts badly with slight rain - to make sure this doesn't happen I recommend hairspray (straighteners can't sort that out!). Although the GHD straighteners may be seen as expensive, it is definitely worth it! Perfect for straightening, curls and waves on all hair types, the GHD Gold hair straighteners have smoother ceramic plates to give a professional finish. GHD Stylers have a digital processor which measures the temperature constantly to ensure that the top temperature for styling hair is maintained, cooler to touch and lighter for a more comfortable use. The temperature rises to 200 °C which is extremely damaging to your hair and therefore before you start styling you will need to use heat protection spray. The straighteners heat up within 5 seconds (much quicker than my previous straighteners!) and gradually become hotter, when the GHD's are ready to use there will be 3 beeping noises which are loud enough to hear and only last 3 seconds. This is useful as it is an easy signal as to when you can start straightening. One thing I really like about the product is that there are advanced ceramic plates and automatic safety shut-off after 30 minutes, so in case you do forget to off your straighteners nothing will burn and it is a good safety feature but also after 30minutes and the stylers are still hot enough for your hair and won't get damaged. You can buy the product from most hairdressers and they probably do a better price, most of the time they have offers on, but you can also buy them at a decent price at Argos for only £129.99. They may be more expensive than other straighteners but I feel they are also much better quality and so worth the price. If you are looking for a new pair of straighteners then I'd buy these, but only if your hair is very thick and curly as I feel they would work best on them. For hair that does not need much done to it, cheaper straighteners may also do the trick! I would give this product 5 out of 5 stars! Thanks for reading
Diesel Loverdose was released last year and ever since then I have had my eye on it! I don't have many perfumes and received this as a gift recently. As soon as I came across Loverdose on the shelves when it was released, I had really wanted it, I liked the bottle design and the scent. It has a gorgeous smell. The Loverdose can come as a 'parfum' or 'eau de toilette' my version is the perfume which I have learnt is more long lasting then the toilette and the smell will become stronger during the day. By doing this you don't have to spray lots in one go and it won't run out quicker. The packaging is a cardboard box (rectangle) it's purple and has Loverdose clearly written on the front in black, bold writing, with finally Diesel written in white at the bottom. I liked the simplicity of the packaging design. The bottle design is the same shade as the box design and is purple, it comes in a heart shaped bottle which although may be difficult to stand up, it is possible. The bottle is really different to others out there making it easier to recognise. The smell is very feminine, sweet, unique and addictive. I would definitely recommend this product as it is really nice to use and has a long lasting scent so I do not need to reapply it much. I looked at the perfume shop's description of the product which states that it has fruity freshness with apple, fresh and delicate spark with musk crystal and bright and transparent facets with orange blossom. In terms of storing the perfume it would be best to store it in its box or a cupboard as I have also been told keeping it out on your desk or near direct sunlight can affect the scent causing it to fade quicker. This would apply to all perfumes. The price of the perfume can range from £30-£50 depending on the size of the bottle. I give the product 5 stars as I really liked it and felt it was a good quality perfume.
I have very thick hair and therefore don't usually wear it down as it takes ages to straighten. My hair is often in a pony tail - high and low and I often need hair grips to help hold the style in place. I recently bought a new pack of grips as I always seem to be losing them all over the place. I found these in Boots and thought they were a decent price. They are £1.49 and hold a pack of around 30. I don't think it said on the packaging how many there are but they seemed cheap enough and contained a good amount of grips. The Boots essentials hair grips come packed on a blue cardboard packaging which they are slotted on in two rows, this is very simple packaging but then the grips aren't fragile so they don't need a box or plastic to be protected in. The cardboard packaging is a good way to store the grips and place them back on if you are not using them as they tend to all stay in one place and are easily taken on and off the cardboard. Not only do the grips come in brown they also come in black and blonde. This is good as it would blend in more to whatever hair colour you have. The hair grips when in use don't fall out and mange to hold your hair in place. So they do the job for the price you pay and come in useful for a variety of different hair styles. However one disadvantage of the grips which is quite annoying, is when the plastic (the part you slide on your hair) comes off the grip as it then becomes sharp and hurts when putting it in your hair, otherwise they do the job. But this applies to all hair grips regardless of where they are bought from as they can get worn out with constant use. Overall it is a good product which I would buy again. It is probably better quality than some of the grips you can find at the pound shops as they would not fall apart as quickly. I give the product 5 stars. Thanks for reading.
Smartphones are getting increasingly popular now and samsung have quite a range of smartphones at different prices. This is an amazing phone which I was not dissapointed to own. It's light, has loads of good apps and isn't too much of a hassle to get used to. When I first took it out of it's box, I was amazed at the weight. Much, much lighter than any other phone I've ever used and you could really tell. This means I can carry the phone around in my pocket without it being too bulky and it does not take up much space. The apps are good on the phone and there is quite a range of free apps and apps you can buy. It also comes built-in with a Google search bar so you don't have to search for Google itself. This makes it a lot more quicker to surf the web and it is in a handy location so it is not hard to find or come back to. It didn't take me long to get used to, I've had this phone for a week now, and the only thing I'm still struggling with is the contacts. I am finding it hard to type though. I do have tiny fingers, but I still can't get the hang of it. I spend all my time on the internet and other tablets etc., and I'm used to tricky buttons, but these buttons are just too small! So people buying this as a first smartphone may find it to take some time getting hang of the touch screen. I think due to the size of the text buttons on the screen it may have been good to have a stylus as a in built feature in so it could be used as well. The size of this phone is satisfactory and the screen is fine (Not too big but quite a good size to watch YouTube or videos). They have so many covers from hearts and stripes to plain so it is possible to accessorise the phone to how you would prefer. There's security on the phone too so browsing the web and downloading apps should be safe in terms of the data sent over the phone. However one point which I didn't know is that you can't get adobe flash player or BBC Iplayer on the phone. This is something to do with the gingerbread and froyo system which I don't know much about but it is worth keeping in mind if you are wanting to watch certain videos on the phone. The battery life is also good on the phone, I would say it is pretty standard for a smart phone and depends on the amount of apps and things you use on the phone. Using the phone to make calls is also easy and the quality of the call is good and clear. The number keypad is big enough to easily and quickly dial numbers. Overall I think it is a good phone, I have had some issues with it freezing at times and being slow during use but I think that also happens with other smartphones and does not cause too much of a problem or last for long.
