Beddgelert is situated in the middle of the Snowdonia National Park in Wales, it is a very small town that I think was originally a mining town but has now moved into more of a tourist spot.
It has a beautiful setting in the middle of a valley surrounded by mountains and with a gorgeous river running through it, there is a lovely walk you can do following the river that runs through the Aberglaslyn gorge and it is absolutely stunning.
Facilities wise there are numerous places to eat and the usual souvenir shops, there is one that makes home made fudge and it really is something special, I'm not normally a fudge lover but it so obviously is home made and the flavours they do are divine!
We ate at the Saracens Head pub in town and it was ok, the food was priced averagely but the pub itself needs a bit of modernising!
well worth visiting if you are in the area and parking is free!!!!
I climbed Snowdon for the first time a few days ago on my first visit to Snowdonia, located in the north of the national park, the mountain stands at 3559ft high and is the second highest peak in the UK.
There are approximately six routes to the summit, ranging from the easiest Llanberis Path, which starts at the town of Llanberis and follows the track of the railway to the summit, right up to the full horseshoe which takes the route over Crib Goch and Crib Y Dysgal, 2 fine ridges but not for the faint hearted as there is a large amount of exposure over these!.
Currently at the summit, a new centre is being built, which will offer a cafe, shelter, toilets, weather and route information, it is behind schedule due to the harsh weather they have been experiencing!
I took my 5 year old and 9 year old up the mountain via the miners and pyg track, the miners track is easy and the route overall is 7.5 miles, considering the size of this peak, I felt it was quite an easy climb to the top and the far reaching views are amazing if you get the weather!
I saw this film on the telly the other night and was very impressed with how good it was!
It tells the story of a typical American couple (Diane Lane and Richard Gere) who live a typical small american home (I am being sarcastic here!) and she meets up with a handsome young man and begins an affair with him, naturaly and predictably, he finds out and there are disastrous consequences all round.
This film is very intense and the attraction between Diane Lane and Olivier Martinez in this is played brilliantly, it is very convincing. It does keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through and Richard Gere plays the broken husband brilliantly.
The scene where he goes to Oliviers house to confront him is great, you don't know what is going to happen, and I won't spol it by telling you what happens.
I like how the film covers how they try to piece their lives back together following the aftermath, its very believeable
The sequel to fantastic Shrek and is almost as good as the original, I say almost as its very rare to get a sequel that's better and this is no different.
At the end of Shrek we see Shrek and Fiona finally getting together and Shrek 2 starts where Fiona takes Shrek to meet her parents after deciding that they want to get hitched
Fiona's mum accepts Shrek but Dad doesn't and Fionas fairy godmother comes to the 'rescue' but has a secret ploy to get Fiona to marry her son Prince Charming instead, all it will take is one kiss.
So the film follows the course of the fairy godmother expertly played by Jennifer Saunders putting hazards in Shreks way, meanwhile Fionas Dad is battling his conscience over all of this.
Like the original film it is a cracking story and well put together utilising some of the original fairytales that we all know and love
Fake Bake is an American range of self tanning products that promise a natural looking tan.
The range includes an oefoliator, mositurising lotiion, a self tan mousse or self tan cream, I have found the most reasonable place to buy thes eproducts are from a certain internet auction site!.
As I am very fair skinned I do have to be careful with these products as they do have a tendency to make me look 'dirty' instead of tanned, thankfully the technology behind them now no longer gives you the orange look but I don't think the dirty look is all that appealing either.
Anyway, I like Fake Bake, it is one of the best products I have used and as I wouldn't want to look too dark as it would not suit me and look too fake, I tend to mix the lotion with the moisturiser and find not only does this still give you a gorgeous streak free tan, but also gives you more value for money as it lasts longer!
The tan itself lasts for around a week and I tend to reapply it once a week during the summer, it is one of the best I have used.
I was a member of Auto National rescue last year and i have to say I think their service was fantastic (just haven't got around to renewing my membership yet!)
A years membership cost £60 for the full superservice I wanted and you also got 3 months free in that aswell (so 15 months for the price of 12), if you have less than 2 call outs in the year you can also accrue no claims bonus which is good. They do different levels of membership though if you don't want the total superservice.
I did have to call them out twice and both times the call out guys were efficient and quick and got my repairs sorted out at home quickly and with the minimum of fuss.
I would highly recommend this breakdown service as they were also one of the cheapest I managed to find and best value.
2 big stars in this one, John Travolta and Nicholas Cage, one playing a nutter the other playing a nice cop, the nutter Nick Cage having previously killed John Travoltas young son accidentally leading John to make it his lifes passion to catch him.
So understandably, the American police come up with an ingenious idea!. Having caught Nick Cage in a shoot out and put him in a coma, they remove his face and swap it with John's, so John nice cop who now looks like nutter Nick, gets inside prison to talk to Nicks psycho brother.
Only, Nick comes out of his coma and discovers whats happened decides to play this game to his advantage, shoots the only people who knows the truth and with John behind bars, goes to visit him to let him know what's going on.
Its a great plot and both actors play their parts so well and convincingly, a crackingly good film
This is a fantastic film and I am sure this immediately made lots of boys want to become ballet dancers!
Its a british film with a great cast and tells the story of Billy a working class kid who attends Ballet lessons and is the only boy there but the teacher, Juloie Walters soon discovers he has a real talent and aims to go about persuading Billy's dad to let his son try for a scholarship at the Royal Ballet School in London.
Billy's dad is having none of it at first and is completely ashamed of his son, calling him a faggot etc etc, but slowly comes round, Billy trys for the scholarship and gets a place.
The film follows the story of Billy coming of age and the stigma around boys dancing and the end where Billys dad and brother go to a ballet where the grown up Billy is performing is breathtaking, great stuff!
I love Tom Hanks, he just never gets it wrong and can turn himself to so many different genres and this is no exception.
This tells the story of Tom who is involed in a plane crash in a storm and finds himself the only survivor stranded on a desert island. We then watch as initially he is desperately looking for a way off the island or someone to come and rescue him to the dawning realisation that he is alone and no one is going to come for him.
You need someone like Tom Hanks to pull this off as the majority of the film is focussed entirely on Toms survival on the island, his relationship with a baseball called Wilson, his ecstatic reaction when he manages to make a fire!!!! and how he changes from being completely helpless to learning to survive in this environment.
Does he get off the island?, watch and find out!
Helen Mirren does it again, I was never interested in watching this but was persuaded to do so and was completely hooked. You tend to forget that this is Helen Mireen and you really do start to think you are watching the real Queen on this, the acting is that good.
It obviously tells the inside story of the Queen and the royals around the time on Diana's death and aims to give us an insight into their thoughts and feelings around this time.
The drama highlights some interesting points in the Queens life and shows us just how independent she really is, for instance when she takes the land rover off to do some shooting on her estate.
Its also interesting to see her relationship with Tony Blair develop and who knows if this is accurate or not?, its a good watch anyway and makes you see the royals in a slightly different light perhaps
This was recently shown on TV as a three part drama and was amazing to watch, with some cracking actors in here it tells the story of what would happen if sea levels continued to rise and how a flood would breach the Thames Barrier and have catastrophic events for the UK.
It is in a very similar vein to the Day after tomorrow if you've seen that but is a wholly English version.
It tells the story of huge storms that batter the coastline of the UK and completely destroys coastal regions in the UK. In an attempt to save the City, the aim is to deply the thames Barrier as that was what it was built for, but it turns out that this could cause even more damage and devastation to parts of London.
Its great to see how the characters work together on this and how they make some very tought decisions and what is even more harrowing is realising that something like this could happen
I watched this after being at a seminar that Joe was talking at and reliving his account of when he fell in Siula Grande and I must admit if you ever get chance to see him please do as it is astonishing listening to him
Anyway, back to the film!, this tells the real life events of 2 climbers Joe Simpson and Simon Yates who were making a first ascent on Siula Grande in Peru, they do make it to the summit but on theri descent, Joe falls and breaks his leg badly, Simon tries to lower him down bit by bit but Joe falls again and is left hanging in mid air, Simon not knowing if his friend is dead or alive, has to cut the rope to save his own life and Joe falls into a crevasse.
Thereon Simon manages to get back down to his camp but Joe spends 4 days crawling his way out of the crevasse and in a fight for survival makes it back to camp.
The Tigger Movie has been cashed in on the back of the success of the Winnie the Pooh films and I think they have managed to pull it off.
Styled in the same animation as the other winnie films, this film focuses on Tigger, one of the loveable main characters and his quest to find his real family, he doesn't believe he is the only Tigger in the world and despite having his other hundred acre wood friends, thinks there must be others like him.
Winnie and gang, to cheer Tigger up, send him a letter from themselves but sign it his real family, this backfires and Tigger announces that they have said in this letter they are coming to a party!, so Winnie and co dress up as Tiggers and go to the Party Tigger has thrown but when Roo's tigger mask falls off, Tigger discovers the truth and leaves to look for his real family.
What happens next? watch it and see!
This is a great film! and another Disney/Pixar masterpiece.
The basic story is about a group of monsters who work for Monsters Inc, and the star of our film is Sully and Mikey (Sully being the big Blue one!!)
Each child has a monster who scares them and they lurk in their closets, but these monsters need the power from the children's screams when they scare them to power their city
Its a very clever film and an ingenious concept. Each month whichever monster gets the most screams gets an award of achievement.
Its all going well until Sully's child accidentally comes back through the door with him and its then a race on to get the child back without anyone finding out. In Monster world, a child touching anyone means they all have to be decontaminated! but as the story progresses, you realise there is more to this than meets the eye.
This childrens film has a very sad feel to it, it is set in the antarctic and tells the story of Mumble, a penguin ostracized but his 'pack' the reason for this he can't sing!. Penguins generally attract one another by singing and they have what is called a heart song, Mumbles parents Norma Jean and Memphis attracted each other this way but when Mumble was still in the egg he got left behind and his parents think this is the reason he can't sing. Instead of being able to sing Mumble can dance, but the king penguins aren't impressed and so poor Mumble gets sent packing.
Mumble gets up to all sorts of adventures as he grows and eventually returns to his family, I won't tell you what happens then as you'll have to watch to find out!
Its generally a nice film that kids will love, there are some really good tunes in here along with some great dancing!
