Before I begin, I need to state that I am a huge disney fan. It is my goal to collect as many disney films as I can, so this review may be a little biased!
Peter Pan is based on the loved play by J. M. Barrie. It tells the story of Peter Pan and the lost boys of never land. The place where you never grow up. A place with pirates and Indians and of course captain James hook, with the ever hungry crocodile and mr. Smee.
It's I'd the fourteenth disney animation film released, but it isn't my favourite. Who knows, maybe it's because I like the more 'girly' princess type films. This however is still a good watch. It has good levels of humour and is great to watch with a family, especially with children who like adventure.
Personally I think the character Wendy, is overlooked by tinkerbell, after all, she is a fairy, and I like that they have given her a bit of attitude.
The soundtrack of this is typical old style disney (it was released in 1953) so definitely not one I'll be purchasing any time soon, but it does fit the film perfectly.
I bought this for £10 in hmv, and it's also on amazon, but at a whopping price of £20.49!! It's may be because its region free, but do your research!
Overall, it's a good family film, perfect for all the family, blu ray obviously does make that much better, and if your an avid disney fan then you have to own this.
I can't say I was ever a huge fan of the wizard of oz. never really seeing the film version and I don't think I even read the book (not being a big reader). The only time I've really had to take an interest in it, was when I was taken to seethe play when I was still in primary school, which I enjoyed but plays were not really my thing.
However after seeing the trailer for this whilst at the cinema, I felt that this was a version of the story I would be interested in watching. I wasn't wrong, and by watching it in 3D as well, I think it made it more enjoyable for me.
This is the story of of how oz became the wizard of oz, a kind of prequel to the well loved story. It has characters from the original story such as the munchkins, good and bad witches, and flying monkeys. Additional characters include Finley (a flying monkey) and a china girl. These characters all help Oz to succeed within assortment of tricks and illusions.
First impressions had me a little worried as it starts in black and white, had to be assured that this would change to colour later in the film! When it does change to colour (when we are introduced to the more fantastical world) you are in a treat.the quality of the picture mixed with a HDTV makes it look so pretty and is a feast for the eyes.
Another upside to this film is the soundtrack. Composed by Danny Elfman. It's may be biased,as I am a fan of anything composed by Danny Elfman, but the sound of the music really goes with the type of film this is with lots of ups and downs and key changes to fit the tone of the scene.
I bought this in head on blu-ray for £17. Although for the DVD it is slightly cheaper at £15. G online to amazon you could probably get it for even cheaper, but I just couldn't wait!
If you haven't already, then go buy this on DVD, better quality blu-ray and if you want it even better get the 3D version. Whichever you get you'll not be disappointed.
I wasn't into the whole twilight thing straight away. I thought it was just a phaze that would soon pass, but since receiving this as a family christmas gift, I now can say I'm a fan.
At first I thought this would be the typical soppy love story, that really I couldn't care less about, but turns out it's got a bit more to it than that! Twilight is another one of these films that is spread out into four books, so naturally this has to made into five films! I hadn't read the books beforehand so didn't know what I should expect, but decided to keep an open mind (vampire stories being another thing can't say I was into).
In my opinion, the film does begin quite slowly, admittedly we have to be introduced to the characters, so this is understandable, but gradually it picks up the pace and you can't stop watching it.
It begins with the introduction of Bella (Kristen Stewart) who is moving away from her home and her mum, and moving in with her dad, to a more rainy and dreary forks. It is here that she meets Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) who she knows straight away is something special.
We are gradually introduced to some of her new friends, in and out of school such as Jessica, Eric, Angela and Mike, and of course not forgetting Jacob. As the story unfolds we learn that Edward and his family are vampires, but not the 'normal' variety, as they only feed on animal blood, and call themselves vegetarians. We also learn that Jacob is werewolf, and there are another group of vampres who set themselves out to kill Bella.
All in all, it is a very good film and considering I wasn't a fan to start with completely won me over, I have subsequently purchased every other film in this series and have been pleasently surprised by all of them.
This is the first album that I have bought of take thats'as I have never really listened to there music before, but after there performance at the royal variety performance, and the second song they did 's.o.s' I decided that it was time to investigate what the fuss was about.
As always I first listened to this album on spotify before buying it, and I have to say I was hooked. That's not saying that I am going to go out and there back catalogue of albums, but it was avery good album!
I bought this album because I loved the song s.o.s but after listening to it just once on sotify I decided that I loved kids as well!
The first track on this album is the well known track the flood, this one, I have to admit when I first heard it on the radio, I tought it was alright but nothing special. Now, itis one of my favurites, like with all songs you have to be careful not to overplay it, otherwise you WILL get bored of it (talking from experience).
I couldn't say that there was any songs that I didn't like any, but my least favourite was probable affirmation, no particular reason, just not my kind of song, I guess!
With this album, I liked how some of the songs just blended together. If it wasn't for the slight skip in the song as it was changing from one track to the other, you wouldn't have noticed that the song had changed at all, you might have thought, like me, that it was just an add on to the previous song.
Overall, this a very good buy. I would recommend this to any die hard take that fan, or to anyone who is a relatie newcomer! Enjoy!
This is not the most recent of doctor who soundtrack albums, but it is certainly, in my opinion the best. Featuring the last four episodes of doctor who starring David Tennant, it is focused on he more emotional side of the programme, meaning that more of the songs are focused on the fact that the doctor would soon be regenerating.
The first CD has songs from the first three specials, 'the next doctor', planet of the daead' and 'the waters of mars', while the second CD is entirely for the final episode 'the end of time'. Because there were less preogrammes to get the music from, I guess it was easier to put the music in the order that it came in whilst on screen, this is so some of the tracks flow better when you listen to them in order (not in shuffle like me). These CD's flow so well that on some pf the tracks you can not tell that the track has changed at all, which for me adds to the drama and excitement of the music
This music was played by the BBC national orchestra of Wales, which is what the next albums music will be played by as well. This orchestra consists of many different instruments such as strings, horns and many other brass and woodwind instruments such as flutes and trumpets. In the more dramatic music there is percussion used, mainly stabdard drums, but also some timpani.
It was composed by Murray Gold who also composed the previous two soundtracks of doctor who. I think that this allows the music to speak for itself, so whist listening to it, you can recall what was happening on screen at the time.
My favourite tracks on this album are track two, CD one 'A victorian christmas'. As it is a very merry tune, and the orchestra sounds verry christmasy, so it puts a smile on your face.
My least favourite track on this album is track one, CD one 'Vale', as it is quite sow, and although I know this is the theme song of the doctors regeneration, it doesn't use the orchestra to its fullness, like it does in others. Although it isn't my favourite, it does set the tone throughout all of the specials.
In my house, we very rarelt have nutella, but on the few occasions that we do, its a real treat. Usually we have it at christmas, but recently I felt a real urge to have some, so off I went and got some. It was a little more expensive than I was expecting, but I had already built myself up to have some, so I couldn't say no to it.
The good thing about buying your own and not having to share it with the family, is that you dont get funny looks when you occaisonally might dip your finger in the jar. But to be honest the best way to have nutella for me, is to have it spread thickly over a couple of pieces of white bread toast, (it is still just as nice tohave it on brown, but I prefer white!
The jar is made from see through glass so you can see straight through to what is inside the jar. It has a white lid, which when removed, reveals a thin gold coloured foil seal. You can open this buy either opening it the conventional way of peeling it back, or the better way of popping it with a knife! So satisfying!
The smell tha hits you after taking the seal off, is so tempting that you culd just dive in straight away. When you first see whats inside you woud be forgiven that it just looks like your average chocolate spread, but when the smell hits you, it is instantly recognise it has being distinctly nutty. The smell, in my opinion is mouth watering!
Just to make you feel that little bit more guilty is some nutritional informatio for you all!

Unlike other chocolate spreads nuella is surprisingly...not exactly healthy...but it certainly isn't bad for you either! It is promoted as being a good breakfast starter as it releases energy slowly therefore not making any children too energetic during the day, not only for children either!
I would recomend this to everyone who loves the combination of chocolate and hazelnuts, and also who ovethe idea of having chocolate for breakfast!
I never realised that the mighty boosh partnership of Noel fielding and Julian Barrett, had created a live verion of their hit show the mighty boosh. I only realised this when I was browsing on yotube for various random clips of them.
I am a huge fa of the mighty boosh. I only really watched the thrd series on TV as I didn't know about them before that, but at christmas, first I recieved the mighty book of boosh, and then on my following birthday, I recieved all three series in a boxset, with bonus features!
Anyway, After I watched all ree series I really wanyed to know what else they had done and kept my eyes open for a merchandise, I then saw advertised somewher this DVD.
This show is a couple of hours long and basically uses material from the first two series of the boosh and condenses into a two hour show. This show uses all of the characters that were involved in the original shows such as Bob Fossil, Bollo and Naboo (being the less important characters) and obviously not forgetting Howard Moon and Vince Noir (the two main characters).
This show bases itself on different sketches that have ben used i their previous series such as tundra and the legend of old gregg, so you do get used to seeing all of theseweird and wonderful characters now and again.
I have to say one of the characters that I wished they didn't have to put in this show was Bob fossil, as I have to admit, lets just say I didn't really like the character, on occasions, I have to admit the actor playing him (but with different charaters could be very funny, but mostly not!
I would say, that if you haven't watched th first two series of the mighty boosh before watching this show, you definitey wouldn't get the full experience, as you wouldn't get some of the references to the jokes, but if you have watched them then go out and live a little, it is a very good show, and although there was a script to it, it still felt very real! (not the stories they told byh the way!)
I was never really a fan of Russell Brand, not for any partucular reason, I just never had an opinion of him. That was until my brother got me this DVD for my birthday. I must admit I was a little sceptical, as I knew that generally Russell Brand's comedy is not something that I would usually find funny. Having said that, I now can say, that when watching this DVD I was pleasantly surprised!
OK, so some of the jokes are a bit *makes you want to block your ears* but it is definitely a real laugh. This show goes over the majority of the scanalous thigs that Russell Brand has done whilst he has been in the public eye, from when he first came onto the comedy scene to the present day.
This was recorded at the O2 arena, so you really get the full impact of the arena when he gets off of the stage and starts talking to the audience as it takes a good fifteen minutes to get past that part of the show.
He doesn't shy away from the obvious scandals that he has been involved with over the past few years including the *sachsgate* so to begin the show his opening sentance is 'thank you for coming to see me in a medium in which I am still allowed to flourish'. This signals already that this is not going to be a light hearted show that slides past the bad bits. This show confronts all the mistakes that have ever happened to him, so you have to be a bit prepared for that, but then you wouldn't buy a DVD called scadalous if you thought it was going to be about bunny rabbits I guess!
One way of describing Rusell Brand is like he is like marmite (think I read that somewhere else) you either love him or you hate him. And for me it is a thumbs up. I would reccomend this DVD (for over eighteens) and everyone!
This is a story of two sisters, who for years have thought that they were in every way, related have found out that Cassie (the younger of the two) was adopted.
The two sisters names are Cassie and Lizbet (short for Elizabeth). They both have very different personalities and like very different things. For example, Lizbet is much more softer and and friendlier than Cassie, andCassie is far more interested in her career as a divorce lawyer than any personal stuff going on at home with her family.
At thirteen Cassie's adoptive parents tell her that she is adopted but she delays in trying to track down her real mother until her early thirties. After a short while she hears devastating news that her real mother had died a year earlier, but that she had a sister called Lucille. After this she decides that she wants a baby with her husband (George) even though she no longer loves him.
This story gives an insight into the lives of two sisters who both have strong personalities and who have different opinions on life in general. Both sisters have had to go through emotional trauma, which in the end brings them out as stronger women.
The sub title of this book says 'They were the best of friends, they were the worst of enemies', which I think sums up every relationhip between sisters absolutely perfectly. Anna Maxted has written this book in a way that we can see both sides of the story and what is going on in both of the sisters heads. This makes it clear about what they are think to us (the reader) but not so clear to the actual characters themselves, which I think gives the book a bit of an edge.
This is not the normal kind of book that I would go for, but admitttedly I fell for the front cover, becasue it was bright and colourful, luckily for me I really enjoyed reading this and would derfitely reccomend it to anyone. This is a book that I would certainly think about buying in the future (this one came fro ma library). It says you can buy it for £6.99 but I'm sure that you could get it cheaper on amazon!
I have liked Bill Bailey for a little while, and love the majority of his songs which he performs on the remarkable guide to the orchestra, so when I came across this album on amazon, I was quite happy. At only just over £3, it seemed like a bargain. for 21 tracks, although admitedly it does seem to be quite an old album.
On this album there includes songs from his various tours and not just from one. Also as I was expecting the songs are not played live, but what sounds like in a large hall. Without the saoubd of laughter in the background laughing at all of the jokes, the songs don't seem any where near as funny, but definitely worth a chuckle at least!
Not all of these songs are songs. Tracks 2, 5,10,16 and 20 are spoken bits worth little bits of music in between.
Here is a track listing:
1. Insect nation
2. Gwydion and the druid - chapter 1
3. Richard Clayderman plays three blind mice
4. Unisex chip shop (tribute to billy bragg)
5. Scooby doo
7. Jean-Michel Jarre
8. Hats off to the zebras
9. Phillip Glass pop goes the weasel
11. Tom Waits plays three blind mice
12. Leg of time
13. Classical Cockney
14. Chaucer pubbe gagge
15. Medieval porn
16. Gwydion and the druid - chapter 2
17. Dr. Qui
18. Cockney medley
19. Beautiful ladies (in honour of chris de burgh)
20. Gwydion and the druid - chapter 47
21. Drum 'n' Bush
My favourite track on this album is the first track insect nation, as it is quite funny and the lyrics are quite clever, but also true in a kind of wierd way!
My last favourite track is drum 'n' bush, as although it has clever uses of music technology in therem it is just a bit boring, and not very funny.
The track that surprised me the most was scooby doo. I was expecting at least thirty seconds of music from this, maybe Bill Bailey taking the mick out of the theme tune, but nope. Insterad you get about 10 seconds of talking and then a funny sound affect at the end. So basically it wasn't very good, but whan it got to the end it was quite funny!
I have to say another song that I liked was the cockney medley. This song was a comilation of various 'modern' songs arranged into one cockney song, that really worked, in some kind of good way!
Obviously there are other songs on here which are brilliantly funny and other which are too short too even remember, but overall for the price I payed, I am not too disappointed with it. Go out and buy this if your like music and comedy mixed in with each other!
Haarp is the 6th album that muse have released. The recording was taken from one of the many shows that they performed on their tour. This recording was taken from the wembley show.
I only recently started to like muse, as I wasn't really into that style of music before, but now, I cant get anough of them. (I now own all of their albums).
You can get all of these songs on there other albums, but there is something that makes a live version of them all, that makes it that much better. You can also get this show on DVD, with even more songs on it, unfortunately I wasn't aware that there was a DVD version at the time. But if I did I would definitely have bought it.
They have previously brought out a different live show, called hullaballoo, I dont know where that one was recorded, but it seemed to have not much flow as this one. As it was obvious it had been heavily edited.
Muse's songs usually consist of heavy distorted guitars, which give their songs quite a rocky sound. But other songs can be quite soft with only the piano playiong, or maybe some synth.
My favourite track on this album is starlight as this was the song that orginally made me interested in muse. It combines both guitars and piano, neither of which over power one another. It is a good mix of guitar solos, piano solos and vocals, which make it a really good track to listen to.
One track that I'm not so keen on is take a bow. For me the intorduction is too long, and it takes too long to get into the actaul main song. This is not just because of the live recording, as I am not too keen on the original album version either!
The track that surprised me and one that I was not expecting to be on there was track one, as it uses the theme tune to the apprentice as the opening song. (I dont know what that song is called!) I wasn't expecting to hear an orchestral piece in a muse album, so it was a surpise, but not unpleasent!
Here is a track listing:
1. Dance of the knights intorduction
2. Knights of cydonia
4. supermassive black whole
5. Map of the problematic
6. Butterflies and hurricanes
9. Time is running out
10. New Born
12. Micro cuts
13. Stockholm syndrome
14. Take a bow
I bought this album on amazon for about £4 which I think is a bargain for what you are getting. I would reccomend this to everybody!
I first heard of this album when Chris Moyles appeared on the 'one show' last year. I wasn't overly enthusiastic about it, as I didn't really care about an album the Chris Moyles has done. But after hearing one of the tracks on trhe album I realised that it might worth listening to a few more, just to see if I liked any more of them.
Turns out that I did. and becasue of this I decided to buy the whole album. In all there are 20 tracks, and on the whole album I think I only have to skip one of them, which I think is pretty good value for money.
Here is a track listing:
1. my parody album - (bank holiday monday - stereophonics)
2. lorry driver - (womanizer - Britnet Spears)
3. meat again - (Beat again - JLS)
4. liar - (fire - kasabian)
5. funeral song - (original)
6. the boy does plenty - (the boy does nothing - Alesha Dixon)
7. barack obama - (L.S.F - Kasabian)
8. waterproofs - (bulletproof - la roux)
9. album track feat comedy dave - (original)
10. dance wiv me feat calvin harris and camilla ice - (dance wiv me - Dizzee Rascall)
11. nana window - (original)
12. I predict a diet feat Ricky Wilson - (I predict a riot - kaiserchiefs)
13. davina mccall - (i love it when you call - the feeling)
14. jose feat dominic byrne - (rose - the feeling)
15. dicky tum - (dumb - the 411)
16. dogs dont kill people - (guns dont kill people rappers do - goldie lookin chain)
17. addicted to plaice - (addicted to bass - puretone)
18. big bum - (sex bomb - Tom Jones)
19. Never gonna snow - (original)
20. last track on te album - (original)
Also the front cover is taken from the take that album cover 'the circus'.
Out of all of these tracks my favourite has to be the boy does plaenty. This was the first track I heard, and it has on numerour occasions got stuck in my head and I end up singing it all the time. The use of timing with the lyrics he uses is really good, and he used all of the instruments well, so it sounds just like alesha dixon's song.
The worst track is definitely barack obama. When it first starts you think that it is quite catchy, but after a while after the only words are barack obama, it gets kind of annoying.
The surprise track for me was liar, as I'm not a big fan of kasabian, but this song I really liked, as it uses the ;yrics really well.
Overall, I payed about £6 for this on amazon. It is delfinitely worth the money, and one to play with the family
I bought this game from amazon last week, and I have to say I think it is very good value for money. I bought it withe the puzzler collection, so it would stop me buying rather expensive puzzle books at £2 a time.
This game is the most recent of the two, andI think you can tell, maybe not by the packaging but definitely by the way it plays. With puzzler worls, the puzzles get from being rather simple to alot more tricky, but It is only a gradual increase on difficulty as there are so many puzzles to play. In total there are 500+ of the puzzles you first play, but when you complete them there are sort of secondary puzzles after, which you dont have to do straight away.
These puzzles consist of changmans, link-words (anagrams) little pucture quizzes, and many more. The main puzzles consist of fit-words (kriss-kross) wordsearches, cross words, spot the difference, link-pics, sylhouette (coluring in dots) and sudoku.
The good thing about this game is that if you find a puzzle to tricky, or if you find a puzzle a bit repetitive and want to skip it, then you can, in fact you dont even have to start at any specific puzzle. You can go from the bottom to the top, or you could even start in the middle, it really doesn't matter.
There is also a quick play option. This may have just been because I was playing it, but after I completed a few of the quick play puzzkles, I went back onto the challenge mode andw ould you believe it all of the main 'primary' puzzles had already been completed. This puzzled me a bit, and after a while I decided to deleet my game and start again, so just be aware that that might happen to you.
When you first log in to the game (you can have a maximum of three players) the displays are nice and bright which automatically want you to continue playing or start playing. On the log in screen it gives you the choice of being left or right handed, and also to put in your signature or just a random picture to signify that that is your slot. It also gives you the chance to change how the system reads your handwriting, in lower or upper case, which is handy if you have really bad handwriting like me. You can practice whichever case of letters in another menu as well!
It does seem that there are a few more puzzles on here than other ones. For examples, there are lots of fitwords and cross words, but hardly any link-a-pix. Which are my favourite of all of them. But like I said earlier, you can easily just go onto the puzzles you like most first and the more boring ones till the end.
This is a good little game that is handy to have around if you've got a spare five minutes of doing nothing. It is quite addictive, and so it might be quite difficult to put down, but due to the fact that the games are short, you dont have to worry about having to save it at certain points (it saves automatically).
I got this for £7.60 (through the amazon marketplace) but if you wated it brand new you could easily get it for £9.99 on amazons proper bit! A very good buy!
I began to watch this film when I was very young, but my parents didn't really think it was appropriate for my viewing (I was only seven). Since then I've not really heard of Johnny Depp again until the first Pirates of the Caribbean came out. It was at his point where someone in my family became obssesed with him and started buying all of his films. It wasn't until this film was bought that I realised that Johnny Depp was in sleepy hollow.
I have never really been a great fan of horror films, or films with any blood involved at all in them, so when we first watched this again (when I was older) I wasn't convinced that I was going tio enjoy it. But surprisingly after about the third or fourth time of watching it, I got used to it, and therefore enjoyed it more.
The difference between this film and other horror films is that this one includes elements of humour and comedy mixed in with it, so although it might frighten you in parts, you can also have a bit of a chuckle.
The story is that in a little village called sleepy hollow, mysterious murders have been occuring. Nobody yet has seen who the murderer is, but all of the villagers have been whispering about the headless horseman, who, when he was alive, was someone who everybody feared. Eventually the horseman was killed, but some time on from that, somebody has awakened him and now he wants...his head back.
The horseman prides himself on fighting and basiclly chopping peoples heads off, while his other comrades came for money and profit, he came for war.
After a few murders, Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) finally comes across the 'sensible' reasoning behind what must have been happening, and it is literally a race against the horseman to escape the inevitable from happening.
This film is typical of the style of Tim Burton, with it's gothic horror references and how all the characters appear to be guilty some how or another, everything always clicks in neatly when you come to the end.
Ichabod Crane - Johnny Depp
Katrina Van Tassel - Christina Ricci
Baltus Van Tassel - Michael Gambon
Lady Van Tassel - Miranda Richardson
Young Masbeth - Marc Pickering
Brom Van Brunt - Casper Van Dien
Reverend Steenwych - Jeffrey Jones
Doctor Lancaster - Ian McDiarmid
Notary Hardenbrook - Michael Gough
Magistrate Philipse - Richard Griffiths
The Headless Horseman - Christopher Walken
Christopher Lee and Alun Armstrong also make guest appearances.
This is not something I would reccoemnd to young children as it may frighten them, but for older children (15+) I would you must give this film a try (if you like horror and humour). You can probable get this film of amazon for about £5.
I got over the hedge on DVD a couple of years ago for christmas. Again this was a DVD that I hadn't really shown any interest in at all (it was from the same person who gave me happy feet!). After seeing a couple of trailers for it on the TV and all that, I was a little bit wary that it was going to be just like all of the other animated childrens films in that they would show lall of the remotely funny bits in the trailer and therefore everything else would be a little bit dull.
But with this film I was pleasently surprised (again), I wouldn't say that it outrageously funny, but it had a nice gentle pace that made you chuckle in places.
The story is about a little racoon, called RJ, who is feeling shall we say a little peckish, so he decides that it is a good idea to steal some food from a bear. He then meets a group of animals who have their worls turned upside down when they discover what seems to them to be a huge leafy barrier to where there habitat once was.
The story continues to tell the story of how all of the animals get together to try and 'defeat' this hedge and get their woodland back from the humans. When some of the anmals venture over the hedge they realise that what was once their home is now a huge avenue of houses, with humans inside them.
Together they plot to get their food back and their homes, and in the end as in all disney films, everything turns out to be good and happy and nice.
Here is a cast list:
RJ - Bruse Willis
Verne - Garry Shandling
Hammy - Steve Carell
Stella - Wanda Sykes
Ozzie - William Shatner
Vincent - Nick Holte
Dwayne - Thomas Hayden Church
Gladys - Allison Janney
Lou - Eugene Levy
Penny - Catherine O'Hara
Heather - Avril Lavigne
Overall, I think this is a great family film, especially if you have kids. Even if you don't you can still watch this and have a good laugh and enjoy it! Very Good
