As a UK based Video and DVD online store Black Star are amazing, I ordered a couple of videos off them, after failing to locate them at a high street shop at a reasonable price. They stock an extensive range of both Videos and DVD’s. The DVD’s are especially good as they are discounted to the shop prices. The excellent thing about Black Star is that the price that you are shown on the screen is the price that you pay, unlike other sites that include excessive post and packing costs Black Star shows you the total cost upfront. The service that I got was speedy to say the least, I ordered the two videos early afternoon Tuesday and the videos came second post the next day. The only other online retailer who comes close to service like this is Amazon. I have recently bought a DVD Player and have been ordering new DVD’s from both Black star and Amazon. The only problem with Black Star is that the DVD’s do appear to be more expensive as I looked at getting the X files 1st season on DVD which cost Black Star - £89.99 (no post and Packing) Amazon - £79.99 (post and packing +£1.20) Zenium - £69.99 (post and Packing £1.95) I just got my first order back from Zenium, they took just over a week for the goods to arrive, but they are a lot cheaper for some items. To sum up, if you want to get immediate delivery and excellent service look no further than Black Star but be aware that they might not be the cheapest place on the net.
Alta vista may be the original and hence oldest of all the search engine but its time seems to have passed it by. With the explosion of new search engines on the scene it has been Surpased. The best search engine is now universally acepted to be Google as it offers a massive access into the Internet and a more efficient and accurate service. It has also been surpassed as a portal site, by search engine sites such as Yahoo, Excite and even Go which offer extensive news and shopping features as well as the ability to customize their start pages. Perhaps it is the checkered past of AltaVista that has caused all its difficulties, as it was bought and sold by a variety of companies. This has lead to a lack of direction for the site and hence a gradual decline in its usability. It is however getting back as it offers a points scheme in the USA in order to attract back its loyal following. Watch this space I think that Alta Vista is on the Road Back and may once again take its place as the top Search engine and portal site.
Sauber are a relatively new team in Formula One Terms they entered formula One in 1993 with a number of other teams, only them and Arrows survived. In all the time that they have been competing in F1 they have steadfastly managed to maintain a middle order position. The Swiss based team has had limited success, but have never quite managed to make it into the big time they have tried by recruiting top drivers such as John Alasi but it has never gelled for the team. They now have good sponsors in the form of Potronas (the Malaysian State Oil Company) and Red Bull (a soft drinks brand), hopefully with this additional finance the team will be able to drag themselves forward. The two current Drivers are Pedro Diniz and Mika Salo. Mika Salo drove for Ferrari last season when Schumacher broke his leg at Silverstone (British Grand Prix). This year the team has managed to maintain its mediocre performance, and is perhaps their lot forever. Although they continuingly do better than teams such as Arrows you always get the feeling that Arrows might surprise you however Sauber are so reliable you know that they will always start in the mid order and might manage to get a few fifth and sixth places in the championship.
Amazon is in my experience one of the Best Internet Bookstores around not only does it have an amazing selection of Books on offer, but they now also have Videos, DVDs, Music CD’s and just recently Computer/Console games. Whenever I have ordered anything it has come straight away on a number of occasions it has arrived the next day. My only gripe with amazon is that it is no longer cheap, yes they knock 20% off the price of all the books, but by the time you factor in the price of the post and packing you are practically paying full price. Amazon would argue that you have the convenience of ordering from the comfort of your own home, which is true but sites like Countrybookshop.co.uk also offer a 20% discount but don’t charge you for post and packing. Another option is to order your books from legendbooks.com who sell highly discounted second hand books. To sum up I believe that you are far better ordering from Countrybookshop.co.uk than Amazon who have just recently increased the cost of post and packing again.
Tomorrow’s world is one of he most interesting programs on the Television at the moment, it manages to be both informative without getting to technical as well as being relevant to modern life. I think that the reason for its longevity is that it has constantly changes with the times, the program we see today bears no resembelance to the show twenty years ago. It also does not try to take itsself too seriously, therefore allowing anybody to watch it and get something out of the program. The two presenters that it currently has in the form of Philipa Forester and Peter Snow are excellent and they have an obvious rapport. They seem able to switch easily from advances in medical Science to the latest Cyber toy with ease meaning that the program flows smoothly. In my View Tomorrow's World is the best Science program on TV at the moment - long may it continue.
McLaren are one of the oldest Formula One teams competing at the moment, they were set-up in 1963 and entered their first formula one race in 1966, but it took till 1968 until they won their first race. He current team set-up occurred in 1980 when Ron Dennis’s company merged with McLaren, allowing Ron Dennis to take over as Team Manager. The Team has won 128 races (11/08/2000), eight constructor’s titles and eleven drivers’ titles. I believed that McLaren were dead in the water earlier this year as it appeared that Michael Schumacher was running away with the title. It seemed the best that McLaren could hope for would be the Constructors Title. This has however changed with Schumacher failing to finish in the last few races. The question now is whether the two McLaren Drivers are fit to take on the Ferrari Challenge. Of the two drivers I think that David Coultard has the best chance, since the aeroplane crash in which he was nearly killed he appears to be a changed man. I do not think that Mika Hakkinen as the mental strength to come back either. Being honest I can only see Michael Schumacher winning the drivers title this year with David Coultard in Second, I do however think that McLaren will win the Constructors Title.
Minardi are universally acclaimed as the worst team on the grid, they are not however bad enough to qualify outside the 107% time limit. They are currently in there sixteenth season and have yet to win a race. Their highest place was a Fourth in 1993 in the South African Grand Prix. This Italian team who started racing in Formula One in 1985 have displayed none of the talents that their fellow countrymen at Ferrari have shown. This year however they do have a big money sponsor in the form of Telifonica the Spanish Telecoms Firm. Perhaps with this money they will be able to replace their ageing Fondmetal engine. What ever happens to Minardi in the next couple of years I can’t imagine them actually doing any better getting amongst the middle order teams, this however would be quite a step forward for Minardi who have made the final two places at the back of the grid their own.
Jordan are one of the only teams in the last ten years to have actually managed firstly to survive and secondly to actually have a reasonable amount of success. Where as Pacific and Simtek fell by the wayside, Jordan has managed to continue and even prosper. The Team was set-up in 1991 and is based at Silverstone. They have had a number of famous drivers including Michael Schumaker who had his first formula one drive with this team before moving onto Beneton. Their first win was not until 1998 when Damon Hill won in Spa (Belgium Grand Prix). This season they have got Heinz Harold Frentzen and Jurno Trulli driving for them. They currently lie fourth in the Constructors championship. The story this season has not been a good one as it is filled with missed opportunities; the cars although reasonably fast have not set the tracks alight. When this is coupled with the poor level of reliability that the team cars are experiencing, meaning that they have lost out on a number of point scoring opportunities. Although based on the team history this year is quite good compared to last season it has been a poor year so far for Jordan. It is my belief that Jordan have had there brief period of fame at the front of the grid and will fade back into the middle order to rejoin the likes of Beneton, while teams like Williams regain their top flight positions.
Williams are an excellent F1 team. They were setup in 1977 by Frank Williams and won their first race in 1979. Since then the Didicot based team have won nine constructors championships and seven drivers championships. Their last race victory was in 1997. Since the 1997 Season the team then went into a period of extreme decline which was probably due to the fact that Adrian Newey (the teams Car designer) left to join McLaren. The Team have come out of this period of difficulty with a new engine and two young drivers in Ralf Schumaker and Jenson Button. They currently lie third in the constructor’s championship. I am unsure of their motives with Button as he might be replaced with Carlos Montoya (a CART driver in America); this seems like madness as only Villeneuve has made a smooth transition from CART to F1. Williams are one of the biggest teams in the sport so I cannot see any reason why they will not be competing with McLaren and Ferrari next year. They have two of the best up and coming drivers in Schumaker and Button and the Car finally appears to be coming good. If it had not been for their reliability problems this year, I think that they would be closer in point’s terms to the top two. Next year I believe will be Williams’s year as they take their rightful place at the top of the leader board. With Button and Schumaker gaining in experience the only way they can go is up the leader board.
As gambling sites go Bet and win is excellent, it allows you to bet with both real money as well as Internet currencies such as Beenz. So far I have only used Beenz, which can be picked up fairly easily from a number of sites. I have bet on various events from Wimbledon to Euro 2000. The easiest way to get involved is to convert Beenz into Arena’s which are the currency used in Bet and Win ( you get given 100 arena’s when you join). The concept is simple you bet and either win or lose. The method of betting is that you can do two types of bet, either betting on the winner or betting on a set of win options (the more bets you include the higher the odds). The range of sports that you can bet on is quite limited, however you can bet on Tennis, Football, Cricket, Boxing, American Football, Ice Hokey and Basketball. This is however enough of a selection to keep you interested.
Arrows have had a long history in formula one, they were set up in 1977 but major success has eluded them, this was all set to change in 1996 when Tom Walkinshaw took the team over. The dream however did not come true, as arrows have continued to under perform as a formula 1 team. They seem to be just there to make the numbers up, filling some of the back grid positions. They did briefly have some success when Damon Hill lead the Hungarian grand prix only to finish in second place after experiencing a technical problem. Since then arrow seem to have faded back into the periphery. This Season has heralded a change in the team. They now have a large sponsor in the form of Orange a Mobile phone company and two good drivers in Pedro de la Rosa and Jos Vestapan. Now it seems that Arrows can finally take on the Big Boys and win (well perhaps finish in the top six). They have consistently performed well in all the races especially in Germany just recently what is holding them back is the reliability of the cars. In my view this year is just a practice run for the team and next year with the continued financial support from Orange I think that Arrows will be competing with the likes of Williams and Jordan. Who knows in a couple of years they may even be able to take on McLaren and Ferrari.
The Best Search engine on the Internet has got to be Google, as search engines go Google is the king. The Google web site is in no way the best laid out or informative, it is extremely basic all it offers is a search facility (not exactly what uou expect from modern search engines). Compared with portal sites such as excite or Go it cannot compete, but then again it all depends on what you want from the site. If you want the best search engine on the internet then use Google, if you want a bit more then use Excite which as well as being a search engine has shopping, news and practically everything else that you might want. Another aspect of Google is that it has a UK address and therefore has UK search facilities.
With Nicola’s Birthday fast approaching she has apparently asked Big Brother for a Vibrator. We will have to wait and see if her request is granted. An easier option might be for her to speak to Andy who is himself experiencing a bit of sexual frustration. The only question now is whether she will be celebrating or vibrating on her Birthay. Handy woman Nicola, lets not forget that she unblocked the toilet manually is not afraid of getting her hands dirty. I think that this is one of the assets that she brings to the Big Brother House. It is also a good reason why I don’t think that she will be voted out in the early rounds. She does not currently pose a threat to Nick so he will not be subtly trying to get her out the house as he has done with a number of the other.
Anna seems to have escaped the attention of the other members of the Big Brother House. Along with Nick she did not receive a single vote in the eviction vote. I think that her Introverted Character has meant that so far she has not rubbed people up the wrong way. However as the numbers dwindle, her position will become more precarious. With a background like Anna’s you would expect her to be more out going, perhaps she will open up a bit as the show progresses, if not hopefully she will be the next one Out.
It appears that the pressure might be getting too much for Andy, as he was seen relieving some of the tension that his on off relationship with Mel has been causing. As Darren Tossed and turned in the next bed Andy just tossed. He is probably frustrated that his relationship with Mel is not going any further, but it has already caused a few problems, as the girls have started to ostracise them. Who knows Andy could be voted out at the end of the week, although his good relationship with the rest of the lads in my view mean that he is likely to stay in for a considerable time longer.
