      Advantages

      Disadvantages

if you look careful you should be able to find a bargain

Bid TV is a TV channel on sky, free view that sells items by having falling price auctions. There is a wide range of items and they are sold in bulk the price starts high, usually far higher than they are worth. Then the price falls until they are all sold or the auction ends. The items and are sold by people that over excited over any old bit of rubbish to try and get you to buy it. You also have to pay postage on all items on top of the final price which is quite expensive anything from about £8 to £10. If you phone up to bid you have to pay £1.50 per phone call or you can do it online for free.

That being said you can still get some bargains from there if you are careful, remember you have to pay postage as well on the final price and do not bid on a item that has come down from about £300 to a £100 because you think you must be getting a bargain as the chances are the item was not worth anyway near £300 to begin with. A lot of the items as well are hard to find the exact item elsewhere to compare prices against.

A good channel that if you are carefully can find some good bargains from. I got a 15" television for £10 including postage so bargains are there just few and far between.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

good story and easy to play

The original game was released in 2004 and this game was released in 2005. The game again is a first person/third person shooter game and set in the Star Wars Universe and published by Lucas Arts. The game is mainly single player but you can play it split screen as well. The game is rated T for teen.

        Game Play

A similar game to the original with improved graphics and AI. This time though instead of playing as different factions the story is told through the eyes of a Clone Trooper who served in the 501st which became known as Vader's First.

Unlike the previous game there is only one campaign although you can play galactic conquest and play as other sides just on levels but no campaigns the sides are Empire, Republic, CIS, and the Rebellion and you get to command a fleet and can fight in space and on land and have to try and conquer the universe one planet at a time.

It starts in the Old Republic with you fighting against the separatists and leads up to the destruction of the death star and beyond to the crushing of the rebellion.

There is 6 different classes to play as with four main ones Soldier, Vanguard, Sniper and Engineer.

        Controls/Graphics

The graphics are a big improvement on the last game and are good, the controls are similar and easy to use.

        Difficulty

The AI is a lot better than the previous game and the game is now pretty hard to complete

        Value for Money

A good game that if you like the previous game is well worth buying and has good gameplay. The story is well written and good and anybody that likes first person shooters will probably like this.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          a good role playing game

Fallout 3 is an action adventure role playing game which a bit of first person shooter and horror survival thrown in for good luck for the PC and is rated M for mature, the game was released in October 2008. The game is only playable as single player. The game has also been released for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. It is the third game in the series.

          Game Play

The game takes place 36 years after the events of Fallout 2 in the year 2277, 200 years after the nuclear war that devastated the world. You play as a survivor in vault 101, a shelter that is designed to protect the inhabitants from the Nuclear fallout. The game starts with awaking to find your father, James who has mysteriously defied the Overseer and left the vault and nobody seems to know why. After your questions are not answered you have to leave the safety of the shelter and venture in to Washington DC in an attempt to find your missing father. On the path you encounter various different factions in the wasteland some who will assist you for a price and some that will kill you as quickly as look at you.

You can level up to level 20 in total. You also get to make choices based on good or evil. Also travel with other characters although you do not have the opportunity to play as them.

The main way to get weapons is to scavenge items as you go along and build your own, the more you use weapons the weaker they get if you do not repair or maintain them and each weapon can be modified as well.

There is plenty of levels and the game is non linear, you can explore and go where ever you want to and the game can be quite humorous at times.

          Controls/Graphics

The controls is mainly mouse so is pretty easy to use although you can set some of your own shortcut keys if you wish. The graphics are really detailed and they landscape is shown to a high degree of detail.

          Difficulty

The AI is very good and the game is long and quite hard to complete especially if you do not level up quickly, the characters that go along with you are usually not that much use and quite often just get in the way.

          Value for Money

There is plenty of levels and the game has a strong plot and good cut scenes, even as the game does not have multiplayer you should still be able to get plenty of game play out of the game and you can quite easily play it again doing everything differently and there is plenty of different endings available.

          Additional Information

You can download a mission editor for the game as well as download some official new maps and quests to play and you can also download an upgrade to allow you to level up to level 30 instead of 20.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

a good strategy game with great graphics

Supreme Commander is a real-time strategy for the PC and was released in 2007. You can play the game both single player and multiplayer. The game is rated 10+.

          Game Play

The game is set in the future in the 37th century and you can play as one of three nations, the Aeon Illuminate, the Cybran Nation, or the United Earth Federation. The war between the nations has already been fighting for over 1000 years and it is your mission to bring the war to the end. The war is fought on different colonies.

The main part of the game is the single player where you play as each one of the different nations, each story is different and giving a different ending from there point of view. You start of each level with giant bipedal machine called the Armoured Command Unit (ACU), which can be used to build you base, build and design new technology, if you lose this unit you usually lose the level. The resource collection has been kept basic so you do not need to worry about getting several different resources all you need to collect is energy and mass.

Each side has over 80 different units to choose from and plenty of structures to build. There is land, naval and air units available to build. The background music to the game is pretty good.

          Controls/Graphics

The graphics and the level of detail are very good although with lots of units it can sometimes slow down the game a bit. The controls is mainly mouse and keyboard for short cuts but the keys are pretty easy to remember and use, you can set them to your own choice if you like.

          Difficulty

The AI is pretty good and has been well designed the basics of the game is easy but it is fairly hard to master and the game is pretty hard to complete.

          Multiplayer

You can play up to eight people online over a wide choice of maps and you can the play the campaigns co-op as well with another player.

          Value for Money

A very good strategy game that is well written, has plenty of choice and lots of levels, when you add the multiplayer into the game there is plenty of game play. Although to play the game at its best you will need a good PC on lower settings the game is nowhere near as impressive.

          Additional Information

The game also comes with a map and mission editor which allows you to build your own missions, there is plenty of new missions that have been made by fans of the game to download and play that are really good.

          System Requirements

The main problem with Supreme Commander is that with it being so graphically it needs a really good pc to be able to keep the game running at a good speed when you have hundreds of units on the screen at the same time.

            Disadvantages

            easy game to play

Stronghold 2 is a 3D real time strategy game for the PC and was released in 2005. It is playable both single player and multiplayer. The original game was released in 2001.

The game is set in medieval times and after saving your lord from his enemies you are rewarded with your own castle and land to rule over and defend. You have to protect your castle from sieges by creating walls, towers and training units, whilst making sure you have enough resources available to survive the siege by making your castle self sufficient. In some missions you have to create an army to attack and conquer your enemies castle.

To help you there is two advisers who will give you advice on what to build and what units to train, you can also align yourself with smaller villages and castles for extra resources and trading.

There is a large selection of units and siege weapons to train and research as well.

There is two main campaigns to the game one of peace and one of war, the peace campaign is mainly economic based whilst the war campaign gets you fighting battles against your enemies. You can also play the game either skirmish or free build as well.

A good addition to the game is a scenario editor where you can create your own missions although this can be quite hard to do.

            Controls/Graphics

The graphics are pretty good although at times they can seem pretty basic and the controls are basic and easy to learn.

            Difficulty

The AI of the game is pretty good and the computer is fairly hard to defeat at times although after a bit of practice you should easily be able to complete the game.

            Multiplayer

The multiplayer is pretty basic and just allows you to play against other players although it has a habit of losing connection to players so you have to restart often.

            Value for Money

A good strategy game that is fun to play and fairly hard to complete, the game does not suffer from micro management like some games that are similar. A big improvement on the original game. The single player is short but still good to play

            Additional Information

The game is rated as 12.

            Disadvantages

            Although old still worth playing

WarCraft II: Tides of Darkness is a real time strategy game for the PC was released in 1995 by Blizzard Entertainment and it is the second game in the Warcraft series. The game when released was only single player.

The game is set in a fantasy medieval type world and you play as either the fictional orcs or as the humans. For people that have played the original game this one is set six years after the fall of Azeorth where the last game finished off.

There is 28 original levels, each side has a campaign of 14 levels each and every level has a different objective be it to conquer an area, hold an area or repair an area.

The main part of the game is building an army to destroy the opposition, you do this by collecting resources like oil, gold and lumber, improving building and technology to build more powerful and better units. You can also align yourself with minor races which help you during certain missions depending on which side you are, like the humans can ally with elves and the orcs can ally with goblins.

Each side has units that are pretty similar in design and capability to each other, so each side is pretty much balanced by the similarity of units. A new addition to the game is the naval units which are also pretty balanced. As in the other game you can also have heroes on certain missions who have vastly improved skills and strengths, but when they are killed the mission is automatically failed.

            Controls/Graphics

The controls are pretty easy to use most of it is controlled by the mouse, the graphics are basic and the fog of war is a good addition to the game.,

            Difficulty

The AI is not really that good so you do not need to be a master tactician to complete this game, a bit of patience and practice and most players should be able to complete it fairly easily.

            Value for Money

A fun game to play that although is dated and pretty old if you do not mind perfect graphics you should be able to get lots of game play out it, the story is good and the game is pretty face paced. You should be able to buy the game for pretty cheap as well.

            Additional Information

The original release of the game was only single player but a multiplayer was released soon afterwards allowing several players to play at once. The game also had a level editor added which has seen the game being heavily modified with new campaigns and maps being made by fans of the game.

The ELSPA Minimum Age for this game is 11

The game is currently for sale on Amazon for £9.99 although you can get it far cheaper of Ebay

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A great role playing game with a good story and fun to play

The Witcher is a role playing game for the PC and was released in 2007. The game is only playable single player and has only been released for the PC at the moment.

The Witcher whilst based in the world from the books by Andrzej Sapkowski is not based on the stories it is set after the books although a lot of the characters from the book are in the game, so if you have not read the books it will not harm your enjoyment of the game just give you a bit of back ground knowledge if you have.

The game is set in a medieval type world and you play as Geralt of Riva who is a witcher, who has unnatural abilities. The game starts with you saving daughter of King Foltest from a curse which transforms her into a monster.

This starting gives you a quick insight into the game before the main game starts five years later after you have been found unconscious in a field and taken to the stronghold Kaer Morhen. You have lost your memory and the game proceeds with you trying to find out what happened to you whilst you get mixed up in a power struggle.

The game is separated into five main acts each set in different areas and needing you to complete different missions, although the game is non-linear and you can complete each mission different ways. You get to interact with many different characters both foes and friends and each choice and action you make changes the course of the game, not every choice is either good or bad, and what you decides to do changes how other characters interact with you.

You can carry up to two main weapons, choose from up to six different combat styles, and you can also carry several different potions which can do anything from increase your health or help you see in the dark, you can learn how to make more complex ones as the game goes on. As in most role playing games you can upgrade your character from attributes, combat skills and magical powers.

            Controls/Graphics

The controls are pretty easy to use most of it is controlled by the mouse. You can play the game either over the shoulder or top down if you wish. The graphics are very good with a high level of detail, the main problem of the game is the cut scenes which although are very well written and look good and help to forward the plot the voice acting is pretty poor but as this game was originally made in Poland you can easily overlook this.

            Difficulty

The game itself is not really that hard to complete as a bit of practice and you will be able to improve your character so you can take on any enemy although it might take awhile for you to get to that level.

            Value for Money

A very good game that is well written with a good plot and good graphics, the game is fun to play and is the game is pretty big and takes quite awhile to complete. There is also three different endings available so once you have completed the game you can easily play it again to try and get a different ending.

            Additional Information

Although the game has only been released for the PC at the moment . a version for the console is planned titled The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf to be released at the end of 2009.

Also unlike other games when you install the game if your computer is not able to meet the requirements of the game you can not play it, so you have to download a patch to be able to bypass this.

There is over 30 levels to play, over 80 different vehicles to modify including cars, bikes and trucks you can modify most things from paint work to nitrous boosters or bullet proof glass, you can also test drive on a special track any modifications you make.

The soundtrack is pretty good as well and there is a decent selection of songs to choose from.

              Controls/Graphics -

The controls for the game are pretty easy to use and the handling when driving is fairly easy. The graphics for a pc game are not really that good and could have easily been improved.
