A bargain break.
We booked one of the £19 offer rooms in October due to visiting friends and family in the area.
The website booking is very straight forward and allows you to view other hotels close by to get the best location and price for your needs. The room booking is pre paid by credit or debit card and is not refundable, if you are in doubt over your dates and do not want to lose the money then do not book, as there is no way you will get your money back from the hotel. The hotel website states the hotel may be noisy over weekends but we did not experience and noise issues.
This hotel is in a central location behind shops like Gap, Primark and Next and coffee bars such as Costa a McDonalds, and The large Harlequin Shopping Centre. The hotel is about a five minute walk to Watford Station, which can get you into London in about 45 minutes.
There is a multi storey car park right next door, which we found competitively priced and quite secure during our stay. Though it is only open from 7am until 11pm, so if you are a late arrival or needing an early start it may not be ideal.
Reception was quick, polite and efficient and all our booking details, for a family room and breakfast for one morning were correct.
The hotel is clean and comfortable and fairly new, the decor and furnishings are not tired or damaged. There are 2 lifts to the various floors, and vending machines in the lobby area are a good idea for snacks drinks and water incase you need anything late at night, otherwise there are plenty of shops and a large Tesco within 5 minutes drive of the hotel.
The family room, while basic, served us well, it was clean, comfortable and well thought out, there were extra pillows available and tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
The bathroom had a powerful shower and plenty of towels. There are very few amenities such as shower gel conditioner etc, but as we always bring our own this is not an issue and for the price you exepct the minimum.
Our stay was very good and as all we required was a bed for the night at a reasonable price this really is unbeatable.
Breakfast exceeded my expectation, we booked online and our children were free ages (5 and 3) our breakfast was £6.95 each and consisted of a variety of cereal, hot items such as sausage, scrambled eggs, beans and fried bread, pastries, toast, jam, yogurt and fruit, with orange juice tea and coffee to drink. There was a plentiful supply and the dining area was clean and bright.
Checkout was straightforward and the staff were friendly and informative. Overall for the price I do not believe this can be beaten.
I rented a car from Budget Manchester Airport location last October. The location from arrivals was easy, and accessible with 2 kids myself my husband and 2 trolleys of luggage.
The que took a good 20 minutes, but I have experienced worse in Spain and overseas, I expect it, however one member of staff was not really enough for such a large Airport with countless flight arrivals and departures.
Our booking was re-checked with us, and was straight forward and correct, we were given the pre rental checklist detailing damage already on the car, we checked it against the car and drove off happy.
The car was clean inside and out, though we did find a previous customers cd in the player.
When returning the car, again there was a long que for the desk, my husband asked another member of staff who appeared to be bringing cars round if there was a drop off box for the keys, we were told there was not, time was now becoming a major factor as 30 minutes on we still had 4 customers in front of us, and there was only one member of staff on the desk receiving and issuing rental cars. Another 22 minutes and we completed the hand over, mentioning the damage that had previously occured on the car, and enquiring why there was not a key drop facility as we had only 15 minutes left before check in closed. The surly lady behind the dek told us there was a key drop behind the office building, we told her the man in the car park said there wasnt one and this would have been ideal as we were now late for our flight, she shrugged and we left.
Checking our credit card statement 3 weeks later I found we had been charged £550. I called to query this and was told a complaint was logged and would take 14 working days to be followed up at the Manchester Airport branch, you cannot contact them directly. I called in December to follow up to find the first complaint had not been properly logged, so did it again, called at the begining of Jan, to be told I had to prove we had not damaged the car, as it was not the responsibility of the car hire firm to prove, luckily I still had the pre rental inspection docket, I scanned it and emailed it to customer services, now they are saying more damage has occured to the vehicle. I recieved by email a list of the repairs and expense. I have been charged for the previous damages, as well as the non existant damage I was supposed to have made to the car. I have referred the complaint on, but now have heard many such stories and wish I had better protected myself, it takes time but do do do get a member of staff to check every inch of the car on handover when leaving and returning the car, if this is not possible due to office hours, take photos date stamped of every inch of the car. I cannot emphasise enough how important this is, I have rented many cars in many locations and have learnt a very expensive lesson, though I am hoping as my complaint has been referred to another department that perhaps I wont be the full £550 out of pocket, what has most upset me, Is that I am an honest hard working person and followed the terms and conditions to the letter and did not cause any damages. I implore anyone renting a car with any company to demand a full handover with a member of staff as this is a nightmare that is costing me a fortune.
Wii Fit, Great for every member of the family.
I am very impressed with my Wii Fit, which was a family Christmas present this year. I was particularly keen to start the Yoga section as something I have tried before and wanted to get back in to. The great part about it is each move is carefully instructed and directed and while you are stood on the wii fit, it directs your balance and ensures you are moving correctly for each part of the movement.
My children enjoy the ski jump, jogging with each other and Hula Hoop catching, as a bit over weight myself, I am happy that my weight, BMI and other details have the ability to be locked and only viewable with a pass number I have set up, the exercises are enjoyable and you can do a couple of minutes or a couple of hours. All the time you spend on the Wii Fit is banked in a virtual piggy bank, showing you exactly how long you have been exercising, with the added incentive that more Yoga movements, games and exercise programmes are opened the more time you spend on it.
I think this is a great for a family as everyone can get out of it what they want and as it is so simple to set up and use, even my 5 year old gets it out on his own to practise football headers and other games.
The price is very competitive, especially if you already own the Wii, even if you do not, the whole price is much less than the many faddy exercise machines that feature in department stores and on home shopping television, but is suitable for every member of the family, my Father in Law who is 70 even enjoyed trying slalom skiing.
