I am a massive fan of Sophie Kinsella books I have read all of the shopaholic books and all of her stand alone books all of which I have found enjoyable and easy to read. I very rarely buy a book from the shop and generally get them from a car book or a charity shop just because I would rather pay 20p to a £1 for a book than £4.89 which is what Amazon is charging for the paperback copy.
I wont reveal to much about the book as I don't want to ruin it for anybody however the story is basically a ghost story. When I was reading the blurb I found it to be very different to Kinsellas other books however after reading the book it had me laughing so hard it is not in anyway a creepy mystical story about ghosts it is a great story about Lara Lington and her great Aunt Sadie and how they actually build a very strong friendship despite the boundaries in their friendship (ie the fact Sadie is a ghost). The aspect of the story is that Lara is the only person who can see Sadie and how Sadie uses this to beg Lara to find her necklace for her. Lara is a bonkers character who uses Sadie to her advantage for example trying to get better at her job as a head hunter which she has no experience in but yet has been left to fend for herself and of course trying to get back with her ex boyfriend.
Lara and Sadie are the stars of the book and how they help each other with every aspect of life. I saw it as Sadie had the ability to see everything whereas Lara had the ability to actually touch things. However the other characters in the book add to the charm. There are characters to love and hate in the book. For example I fell in love with Lara in this book and therefore I hated her ex boyfriend Josh and didn't see why Lara would want to still be with him. I love how the character of Ed Harrison is brought into the book and how Sadie was matchmaking without even realising she was. Then the actually Lington family including Laras super rich Uncle Bill just made me giggle and wonder how she has managed so long with a family who are so selfish.
Despite the fact the book is very predictable the way it is told is brilliant. I always find the best way to tell a story is that even in the worst situation a writer can make you both laugh and cry without it feeling distasteful. I found the book a little hard to get into therefore when you start reading this story don't worry it gets better. For me the story became another amazing Sophie Kinsella book when Ed Harrison came in I loved how the twenties where incorporated into the book in the most hilarious way. I love the idea of the twenties but can imagine myself seeing a person in the street and staring if they were dressed in twenties clothes. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys light hearted comedy and an easy read. Please do not be put off by the idea of a ghost story.
For my brothers 18th birthday I decided that the best gift for him would be xbox's answer to the wii the kinect. This product is particularly good as it involves no controllers and therefore helps you to stay healthy whilst having fun. It is the excellent product for my brother who spends all his free time on the xbox result in him becoming very unhealthy over the past few years.
Once I decided to buy the product I went to Game where the product cost £119.99 which I thought was a very good price which included kinect adventures. However due to the fact that this was a gift and I am very short on money due to the fact that I am student I decided to buy the product pre owned for £74.99 which included all the same products and looked practically brand new when we received the product. My only advice would be to any person who chooses to buy a pre owned kinect would be that if you do not own the newest xbox 360 the slim version then you will need to purchase a wire for which they charge £5. If you do not already own an xbox you can get the 4GB xbox for approx £199 with a Kinect or up to £299 if you want the 250GB xbox which is essential for serious gamers.
Before I bought it I knew very little about this product but wanted it to be all set up for my brother as a surprise for when he got home from college so I decided to try myself to set it up in the living room. I must say the kinect is pretty easy to set up. To start with I had to find the right place to put it I decided below the TV but it can also go above the TV if you wish. Once it is all plugged in and you have turned on the xbox you need to go through a string of tests to check on the background noise and the microphone set up with the kinect. The kinect will then tilt itself in order to get the best view.
For anybody who does not have a lot of room the kinect would be pointless as it requires a minimum of 6 foot to use the kinect however 8 feet are needed if you want to play well or have more than one player. In my house we have just enough space to play with 2 people with a squeeze.
We really enjoyed playing the initial game Kinect Adventures which comes with the kinect however it soon got repetitive and boring as there are not many games which can be played on this. However due to the fact that games are around £40 it is good to play when you first get the Kinect. After I gave it to my brother he downloaded some demos such as sonic free riders and zumba fitness. After trying the demos he decided to buy himself Sonic free riders for £10 pre owned. This game is very good as it lets you either compete with your friends or work together which is fun and difficult as it involves a lot of working together. Sonic free riders involves racing against your favourite Sonic characters by moving your body forward and backwards. I really enjoyed Zumba fitness but currently do not have enough money to buy it for myself. There are currently mainly sport and fitness games out however there are new games coming out over the next year for example Star Wars which is available end of December to the beginning of January (I have read two different dates).
Even though the product is slightly expensive compared to other products as you will also need to buy the xbox however it is a great way to include the family into the xbox. This product is great for our family as my brother never wants to play with us and generally locks himself away on the xbox this way he can still play on the xbox but can involve everybody. This product is great especially for families with both young children and older children. The wii does not have a great selection of games for older children. Now with the Kinect the xbox is a product for the whole family. I think that with the introduction of the kinect xbox now have the widest variety of games compared to the wii and the playstaion. Include the ability to not use a controller also makes this product the best on the market for fitness games without having to fiddle with the controllers on the wii.
I was looking for a cheap nail varnish due to been on a budget on the fact it was only £1.59 was a big reason I picked it due to some other brands costing between £3.50 - £5 despite never buying collection 2000 before I decided to give it a try. I will today be reviewing 37 Bongo Beat which is a dark turquoisey colour with glitter in. There are however many other colours and some are very quirky such as yellow, orange and green compared to some standard nail varnish companies and they all have very interesting names as can be seen by Bongo Beat, others include BMX Bandit and Sherbet Lemons. There are in fact 20 different colours so i'm sure everybody would be able to find one they liked.
My only criticism of this nail varnish is that after the first coat you can still see the nail so at least 2 coats are needed (my first go I needed 3 but after that 2 has been fine). The nail varnish has a very thick look on the nails and if it had been a standard coloured nail varnish I would not have liked it but due to the quirkyness of the colour it looks good. The feel of the nails leaves fingers feeling quite greasy however which I do not like.
The brand says that it is fast dry and it does live up to this it felt like I didn't have to sit there for hours waiting for my nails to dry which is very good as the first time I did them I was in a mad rush to get out of the house on a night out.
I have always only been a fan of Max Factor and never normally use anything different however as I needed a cheap nail varnish I thought why not and now I will be using more collection 2000 products.
I would definitely recommend this product to anybody who wants a cheap, quick and quirky nail varnish however if you are interested in perfect nails I would recommend a different make as it does look a little bit like somebody has plonked paint on your nail.
I regularly buy ASDA orange juice to have with breakfast but recently I started wanting some Apple Juice. Initially I choose ASDA only because I love the orange juice but I have come to love the apple juice to and is often in my trolley when I'm in ASDA.
I originally only bought the large cartons until I realised they were a bit of a waste of money as I was often wasting half of it due to early mornings and sometimes drinking orange juice. After that I noticed these in the store you get 3 very nice sized cartons with 200ml in each. Not only where the good as I did not drink it often enough but they also went nicely in my bag for me to drink on my way out if I have to be out early.
The cartons are just 86p for the 3 which I think is a fantastic price as they are easy to store and go well in a lunchbox or just in your bag.
They are rather sweet but generally I like that I personally found Morrison's apple juice cartons to be very weak and therefore would always choose ASDA however if you do not like sweet tasting drinks I would recommend Morrison's however if you like them sweet I would definitely recommend ASDA. The taste of the product is average and it can leave you still thirsty afterwards.
The cartons provide one of your five a day so are especially good if you cannot get your children to eat fruit and veg. The carbohydrates in these are not the best however at 22.0g but it does only contain 0.2g of fat and 91 calories.
I only have one criticism is that when removing the plastic wrapping the straws sometimes fall off the packet which makes them practically useless as I always lose the straw when that happens.
I am going to rate this product as 3/5 as even though I don't think they are as bad as some people have reviewed on here they are still average but if you are looking for a nice and cheap fruit juice this one is defiantly for you.
I have always loved the story of The Wizard of Oz as I'm sure many of you have through the wonderful 1939 film starring the amazingly talented Judy Garland. Due to my love of the film I had always been interested in reading the book by Frank L. Baum and once I did I was not disappointed. The book was originally published as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1900 and due to the popularity of the book Baum went onto write 13 sequels 2 of which were later turned into the less known 1985 film Return to Oz. The book was illustrated by W.W. Denslow.
Baum was influenced by Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm and wanted to reprise fairy tales into his stories without the horror. Despite a small amount of horror in the book the reader can always be comforted by the idea of a classic fairytale which is the good which conquer over evil therefore the reader knows that Dorothy and her friends will succeed despite the witches' attempts.
The Wizard of Oz has been translated into over 40 different languages and as the story was so popular it was adapted to suit the cultures and beliefs of different countries for example the Tin Man was changed to a snake for religious reasons in countries were Hinduism is practised. The popularity of the Wizard of Oz can also been seen by references in other shows for example Family Guy and Scrubs.
The Wizard of Oz has also been turned into many stage adaptations including the up and coming TV show to look for a new Dorothy from ANDREW Lloyd Webber on BBC later this year. Plus the hugely popular Wicked which is loosely based on The Wizard of Oz by showing the audience the life of the Witch (I have seen it is amazing I truly recommend it).
The plot of the book is very well known due to the movie however I strongly recommend the book and it has an amazing plot and the detail Baum goes into is much more than could ever be offered in the movie due to low special effects available in 1939 many parts of the book was cut from the movie including China County. Plus Baum's book brings new characters to the plot and different scenarios for Dorothy and her friends to get into. The makers of the movie wanted to take advantage of new Technicolor advances and therefore changed Dorothy's silver slippers in the book to ruby slippers in the movie which shocked me as the Ruby Slippers have become something of a movie classic. The overview of the book is very similar to the movie however which is that Dorothy and her friends are all on a quest to find the Wizard who can help them with the true wishes. Dorothy was to get back home to Kansas, the scarecrow wants to get a brain, the woodsman wants to get a heart, and the Lion wants to gain courage.
Dorothy herself is different to how she is in the movie whereas in the movie she is strong and powerful helping her friends out of danger thought by many to be due to the rise of feminism at this time in the book on the other hand she is seldom brave herself but is often helped by her friends compared to the other way around sort of in a classic damsel in distress scenario.
Some believe that Baum's book represents political images known in the 1890s just 10 years before the book was published which affected the lives of everybody at the time. Such as the powerful for example the Wizard and in some scenarios the Wicked Witch compared to the weak common people for example the Munchkins.
The book is generally aimed at children however for anybody who loves the movie like myself would love to read the book despite the simple language and often large writing. The book is aimed at younger children either for you to read to them or as a book for children to start reading themselves to develop there reading skills which is when I first read the book.
The original story is easy to find either in book stores, on online websites such as Amazon or at a car boot sale however the sequels are harder to find so if they are something you would like I would recommend Amazon for those and they stock everything.
I stayed at the Seaview hotel in Zante or Zakynthos as it is known to the locals, which is an Island in Greece. The Seaview is in the resort of Alykes which is one of the quieter resorts along with its very very close neighbour Alykanas.
I booked the Seaview hotel with Thomas Cook going on the 30th July and returning on the 13th August for which we paid £1900 just over with £200 off as Thomas Cook had a deal on holidays to Greece. We went from Leeds Bradford and Gatwick was much cheaper at £1500 but had sold out by the time we wanted to book. The Seaview is a Manos exclusive hotel.
The first thing to say is do not be alarmed when driving up to the hotel it is there especially if you go when its dark as it is a little bit of a walk from where the bus drops off however our rep did go up there with us. However the hotel was the second one to be dropped off which was nice however we were the first to be picked up but that did mean we got to sit where we wanted.
The hotel consists of 23 rooms, 6 studios and 16 apartments. When looking at the hotel the rooms at the front with a straight on seaview are the studios and the ones on the side are the apartments. There is one 2 bedroom apartment in the hotel as well which is also at the front of the hotel. I stayed with my family in a one bedroom apartment and therefore this is the one I will be reviewing. The one bedroom apartment can accommodate 4 people with 2 people in the bedroom which has 2 twin beds which are pushed together and the living room which has a sofa bed. The room was good for the price and I had very few complaints about it. In the bedroom there was the balcony which looked onto the gardens and you can see the sea. When looking out the balcony you can see the hotel next door but they are not too loud there building work was going on at a nearby hotel however we could never hear anything and only knew they were doing work when out in the sea. The bedrooms have a free TV but you can only get the world new channel and a dresser. In the living room I found the layout to be a little bit weird when you walked through the front door the first thing you saw was the wardrobe which was a little bit out of the way and I would have personally put in the bedroom. The kitchen was very small but adequate for what we cooked in there just soup and sandwiches usually but there was little workspace which I didn't like as the hot plate took up most of the room. When we arrived we only had 3 dishes but they quickly got us a 4th one. The sofa bed was out when we arrived and we actually never put it down as it was stiff and meant we had somewhere to sit. There was also a table in the living room. There was a safe in the wardrobe which was Euro10 per week. In the bedroom there was air-conditioning which seems cheap at Euro5 per night however in the living room you cannot get the air-conditioning unless you leave the door open, we rented a fan from the Sydney House Supermarket up the road which was Euro15 per week to put in the living room. The only other dispute I had with the room was that there was no natural light in the living room when you had all the doors closed and therefore I used to bump into things on the night on my way to the bathroom. The bathroom was clean and fine for what it was, there was no bath just a shower but one plus was the shower curtain as they are rare in Greece. Of course as most people know there is also a bin to put your toilet paper down as it doesn't go down the toilet so the bathroom sometimes smelt. By the end of our holiday though we were left with so many towels because of how many times they were changed but we used to put ours outside so she never used to take them away. I never saw the staff very often but I did hear them as they were a big family and all used to eat together down stairs outside the balconies. The balcony was nice to sit out and read on and play games and have breakfast however there were only 2 chairs on the balcony so we had to take the dining rooms chair out there which we did not like as they were annoying to move and I expected a room for 4 would have 4 chairs.
The rooms were exceptionally clean and tidy with the cleaner coming in everyday however she spoke very little English and then there was one big clean twice a week. Overall the cleaner did an excellent job and was the extra on the holiday which made it great.
The hotel does not have its own pool however you can use the pool next door at the Paradise. The paradise pool was nice and you could go down at any time of the day and get a bed and it was quiet in the first week anyway. In the second week some people came who were very loud and so that was not nice and they would splash about and people besides the pool on beds would get wet because they were messing about which was not possible in such a small space. We only ever went to the pool during the first few days and then our last day (read later in the review about why) and most of the time would go in the sea which was so much fun and roomy and was shallow to so you could go quiet far out and not drown. The sea was right on the doorstop to so you could easily take your blow up stuff and balls with you.
Now back to the reason we were buy the pool on the last day is that we had know where to go as you had to be out of the room by 12 which meant there was nothing to do and we were not been picked up till 5pm. Make sure you get a good flight if you go to this hotel.
This hotel is very much for families and not for people looking to party as there are virtually no bars and even those they have are quiet and it is generally restaurants. The Seaview hotel is a little bit away from the resort but still in walking distance which was nice as then you did not get the noise of people going home after a night out. Be warned though that is virtually impossible to get breakfast out before 9.30 at the earliest as nothing opens they do not have siestas though but Zante Town does (don't go its boring no shops at all). Anybody looking for loud bars should go to Laganas.
There is a reception area however we only went in there to check in and out as you can just go straight upstairs to your room without entering the reception. The couches in the reception are old but ok for their purpose. The hotel does not have lifts however there are only 3 floors but for anybody with difficulty with stairs I would not recommend this hotel.
The hotel did not have its own restaurant but the Paradise did where the pool was but it was only adequate nothing special. We ate one night at the Paradise restaurant which has nothing to do with the Paradise hotel which is just as you enter the main part of the hotel. The owner gave us free drinks when we told him we were staying at the Seaview as his good friends run it which was great so I recommend going there if you want a free drink.
I would recommend this hotel but only with a good flight as some people were not flying till 3.00am but had to be out of there room at 12pm the day before and that was a waiting time of 15 hours. There is know where to put suitcases either and can be left in reception but of course anybody can come and get them as they are not supervised. For anybody with a family this hotel and resort are great as it is quiet and very suitable for families with young children just be careful with them near the sea as the beach is pebbly and it hurts feet. This hotel was amazing and would go back again just not to soon as I do not like repeating countires.
I have always loved cheese however when I eat it to much I feel ill as I find it to strong and plastic tasting, so therefore when I saw the Cathedral City adverts on the TV and the cheese looked scrummy and lighter than most cheese in colour I gave it a try and believe me it is not as strong as some cheeses and not plastic tasting like most cheese is. On my holiday abroad we were looking for cheese to have in sandwiches for dinner as we were on a budget and wanted to save our money for trips. When in the store all that was available was light to begin with I was uncertain about light cheese but bought it as it was either than or a plastic looking one after dinner my brother turned around to us and said that cheese was the best cheese ever and if you ever wanted a reason to buy this cheese then that is one very good reason as if you ever met my brother you would know that he thinks all light food that are in anyway reduced anything are horrible so that he liked it is a good thing plus its healthier and as everybody knows cheese can be bad for you. Whilst on a diet due to being a vegetarian cheese is like what I live on. Light cheese is great as you only get tiny tiny tiny little portions whilst on a diet.
The cheese is lovely it melts really well and lovely on cheese on toast just like in the advert. Anybody who likes Cathedral City already I think you should try this it is better than the normal version and anybody who has never tried Cathedral City the light is great so do not be put off by the fact that it is light.
This cheese is often on offer so look around I have seen it on offer in ASDA, Tescos and Morrisons so do not pay over the price for it. Sometimes 2 for £2 best deal I have ever seen.

I became a member of dooyoo in April 2009 whilst looking on the internet for ways I could make extra money for University, I did not mind whether it was in cash of vouchers as any vouchers I made would mean I did not have to spend the cash on the same thing. I joined several websites dooyoo included and the only other one I stayed with is Lightspeed.
I have had one £25 Amazon voucher and I'm currently 4000 points away from a £20 Amazon but I wont convert till Christmas.
With my first £25 I got like I said Amazon vouchers. I knew I wanted to get my dad his birthday presents from Amazon and in the end my mum asked me to put my £25 to a Goodnight Sweetheart box set which unfortunately he made me watch it with him.
Even though the voucher did not make a big impact in my it did mean that at a time when money was short because I had finished college and therefore was not getting EMA and did not have a job I was still able to get my dad a great gift which was the only think I really cared about at the time.
With the points I have at the minute I want to convert them at Christmas time so that I can get all my Christmas gifts and have already decided to again get Amazon vouchers as I will be getting my brother Family Guy and my mum would like a ds (don't know about my dad yet) and even though one small voucher will not pay for all of this it will put towards it and any money I make from dooyoo I then put that money in the bank as I am currently saving for a holiday next year so therefore I will feel the effect more next year when I can have a great holiday.
When I was younger like with most mothers my mother bought a lot of my clothes at Next however by the time I reached the age of around 12 I felt they did not have a big range for people my age and just stopped that is until one day I was on my way to work very very very early 4.30 to be precise to get ready for a sale as we were opening early. I did not expect to see many people in town on my way to work as it was early however I got dropped of in Tesco car park and walked through the shopping centre to get to my work which was just across the road. As I was walking up I saw a queue of people and I must say I was surprised and to begin with I thought there had been an accident. As I walked up I saw the signs Next Sale open 5am this Saturday (or something along those lines) and I was shocked I couldn't believe people would be at my work for 7am to go shopping never mind 5am. I would have looked however I was expected at work and forgot about it until this women started telling me about it as when we opened at 7am we got all the people who had been at Next when I walked by. I thought I finish work at 1pm I will go and have a look. I went in and even what was left (which was very little) was lovely and amazing quality and since then I have been hooked (I have however never been there at 5am).
A lot of my clothes are now bought from Next as the quality and fit are great and can last me a long time sometimes things can be a little out of my price range but I do like to splurge especially on things like boots, a coat and my bags as they are constantly used items. Next sell clothes for everybody not just for women they also sell for men and children both boys and girls (the girls outfits are so cute). The also have Next home which sells amazing things to put in your home. I have bought things like photo frames and cushions however I have never bought my sofa from there however you can.
The women's clothes in Next are great and there is such a wide selection for both casual wear and professional wear. My favourite thing though is there wide variety of petite clothing as as a smaller person I often find it difficult to find nice jeans that fit however Next can do this for me. My favourite time to go in Next is when they get there winter coats ever since I started shopping in Next I have bought my winter coat from them as they are always bang on trend and really really nice.
I have never myself bought men's clothes from Next however I do have it on good authority that there clothes are great and I do know men who wear Next clothes and it looks really good without them looking as if they actually tried really hard which I know a lot of my friends hate people to think they tried really hard to look good.
The only thing I know about Next's clothing range is that as a child I was always very happy and comfortable in what I was wearing. My mother said to me they wash really well to and even if you have a messy child (my brother) they still look smart after washes. I think when you see a child in Next clothing you know it is Next or something very similar as it is so so so cute and they look very smart.
Next home has a good range if you have a big Next some people are unfortunate and only have a small Next which means they don't have a bug range or any range of Next home. If you don't look online and buy some things I have never bought sofas or anything big like that but I have bought little trinket like things and they are great and very good quality and it may be worth ordering some things of the internet.
One thing I buy a lot as gifts is Next perfume as you can pick up a decent sized perfume for £6 and they are beautiful so if you want to get somebody perfume but not have it as the only gift go to Next they are lovely and such a cheap price and there is such a wide collection recently I smelt that much perfume in Next for a friends birthday I couldn't remember what they smelt like good job they were all lovely.
I do love to shop in Next and sometimes the prices are high but most of the time for what you get and the quality they are very reasonable but if you don't have a lot of money and you are trying to be thrifty one month do not shop in Next.
I have always wanted to get a Next catalogue however they do charge you £3.75 for it which is not bad but I would rather just look in the store than pay to look through a catalogue.
To start with one of my least favourite things about going to a hotel is that when you sat outside by the pool or in the restaurant and you hear people complaining about the hotel when they only actually paid between £1300 - £1500 for a package holiday for four people in August. I hate people who expect 5 star luxury for 2 star prices, I am not one of those people.
My Family and I decided to go to Salou after staying in England for the past 5 years going to theme parks like Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures and therefore choose Salou for the Port Aventura theme park they have there. We decided to go for a cheaper hotel as then we could have more money for the theme park and for excursions. The international was by no means a 5 star hotel so if you are somebody who looks for 5 star luxury please do not book for this hotel but for anybody who is looking for basic, clean and friendly then read my review and possibly try this hotel. The hotel is also self catering.
The outside of the hotel looks very nice and big clearly signed. I must admit when we were sat on the coach on the way to the hotel it started off as a full coach and then there was only the four members of my family left we were a little bit worried about it as we had only paid £1200 as we got our flights and hotel separately. After the last group got off it was another 20 minutes before we got to the hotel but for anybody out there worrying it does exist I promise.
The reception area is basic with a few couches and then the reception area at the desk we checked in very quickly due to it being tea time most people we out by then having then tea and then off to the bars. The staff we very friendly and we were asked to pay 25 Euros each deposit which you would get back when you check in if the rooms were up to standard. When the man gave us our key we went over to the lifts my parents and brother got in the lift but I went up the stairs due to having claustrophobia when we got to the top an Irish man who had being in the lift with my parents pointed us to our room which was very helpful even though he didn't work there.
Our room overlooked the pool area, however some do overlook the street and that was my only problem with the hotel but I will get onto that later. The room was basic due to it being self catering it had the kitchen area which was very very basic but would do for two weeks when the most we actually cooked was well sandwiches and soup and that was on one of our last nights when my parents did not have much money then. There were quite a few cupboards with two hobs and a fridge freezer, no kettle was included but my dad went downstairs and a man brought us one up quickly which was great as he could not do without his coffee. I have no personal knowledge of sleeping on the beds as my parents slept on them but when I sat on them they seemed comfy enough. With two twin beds, the rooms are not apartments and therefore the sofa was in the same room where me and my brother slept with one single pull out underneath the couch. The beds and the sofa however could be closed off by a screen which was very nice as it blocked off some of my dads snoring. The balcony despite being small was nice for having breakfast and playing games out on sometimes with a table and four plastic chairs.
The pool itself was lovely the only thing I didn't like was the rows and rows of sun beds which were very cramped together and I sometimes felt like I was about to put my feet on the person in fronts head. We went to the pool a few times as i'm not keen on the beach as I do not like the sea. There was however which is my main problem with both the pool and our room was that music was played all day till about 12am very loud and I liked to relax by the pool and not listen to rubbish cheesy 90s music. Plus because our room faced the pool we could hear the music and therefore found it difficult to sleep on a night until the music stopped which was annoying as I am an early sleeper and an early riser but they did not put the music on early in a morning as it would disturb people which I think is ridiculous but oh well i'm home now. The hotel put on games by the pool including water polo which I played a few times but sometimes felt it was overtaken by men who are much bigger than me and therefore I just sort of bobbed in the middle. As well as that they did kids things like limbo and also brought in scuba diving which I did not try but looked good.
The restaurant however I did like they sold very basic things like sandwiches and burgers but still very well cooked and friendly. Ice creams were also available which was good for by the pool. We never went to the restaurant for tea as it was always very crowded with people getting drunk and watching sport on TV. However we did not worry as you could step out of the hotel and get straight to another restaurant however we felt they were very British and not Spanish as we would have liked but there is nothing you can do as it has been taken over by Brits now. The restaurant also had pool which me and my brother played a few times and enjoyed.
There were families at this hotel however personally I would recommend especially if going with younger children a hotel more suited for a hotel specifically catered for children as there were a lot of groups of teenagers there who could be very crowded and one day when we were by the pool there were a lot of women walking around with no top on which I think personally is very inappropriate. However for anybody going on a group holiday this is a great cheap hotel.
The area can get very loud on a night as it is right in a party area however as we wanted to go to the theme park we just had to live with it when usually my family are much more quiet and secluded people who enjoy walking and the outdoors.
At the end of the holiday there was a room to put the suitcases and to get a shower but we did not really mind as we had an afternoon flight. When we checked out I said they had made us pay a deposit we got it back just as we checked out but they did not go and check our room so it could have been a mess for all they knew but oh well. The 100 Euros they gave us came in handy as we did not have much left for lunch and I wanted a Toblerone at the airport (what would a holiday be without one).
We booked this hotel with Thomas Cook and I would say it was an ok hotel for the price. I have been on better holidays and I am hoping to this year as well but I would not grumble and say this was the worst holiday I have ever being on. When I was a child I don't know exactly old but I know I learnt to walk there we went to Turkey and paid nearly £3000 and that hotel was far worse than this one. I am giving this hotel 3 stars as I think it has things which could be improved and I think it should be advertised as a group hotel and not somewhere for families as I did not like the loud music. Apart from that I had a lovely holiday and i'm not going to come home and say it wads awful because it was not and for anybody looking for a lazy hotel were all they do is sit by the pool and going out drinking then this is a great hotel as there is not to much of a walk home when you are drunk. I would not go back to Salou and would maybe pick somewhere else and just have a longer journey if I was to go back as I like quiet and unspoilt for anybody who likes this kind of holiday this hotel is perfect and cheap for teenagers and those in the twenties. I have seen bad reviews of this place on here but it's not 5 star and it doesn't advertise itself as that. This was not a hotel for us and that is why this year we have paid £2200 for our holiday and we are hoping it will be an amazing hotel but this holiday was average however the theme park made it that much better to great so for anybody who likes theme parks go to Salou even if you do not fancy the International.
Some people may not agree but personally I would say that A Disney Classic is essential I have nearly everyone except one really rare one and one that I bought from a second hand store but got home and didn't work so I returned it. Beauty and the Beast however is my absolute favourite I must have seen it about a million times and it was the second film I ever saw after Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Anybody any age can watch a Disney classic because they are timeless and Beauty and the Beast is definitely a timeless classic which I will probably still be watching when i'm 90 and in an old peoples home. I have to say that even though Beauty and the Beast is a movie for all ages some of the scenes in the movie could be a little but worrying for children and therefore I recommend that the first time your children watch it you should watch it with them but don't let the scary scenes stop you from letting your children watch this as it is an absolute classic and I grew up with it and the scary scenes never worried me. I would feel sorry for any child who does not get to see this movie or any adult for that matter.
I don't want to go into any full length description of the movie as it would ruin the plot for anybody who has not yet seen it. The film starts off with a prologue told using stain glass windows detailing how the Beast became the Beast and his servants into furniture and then goes into the main story years later. Belle is the lead in the film and Beauty in the title. She lives in a quiet village in France with her father Maurice an inventor. The first song in the movie is the song 'Belle' which shows how the villagers feel about Belle that she is odd and prefers to read books. The beginning song is where the audience find out that Belle is the most beautiful girl in town and that Gaston the apparently best looking man in town loves Belle and wants to marry her. When Belles father Maurice rides off to the fair with his new invention Gaston asks Belle to marry him. Belle says no and later meets the Beast through unfortunate circumstances. The Beast lives in his castle with no contact with the outside world and will mean a beast until he can find somebody to love him. As well as the Beast there are the very loveable servants who I will discuss later in the review. As everybody knows with Disney the concept is happily ever after however the twists and turns taken to get to this ending is fabulous and will keep you wanting more through out.
As I said Belle is the most beautiful girl in town which is what Belle means in French. Belle talks to everybody in the village and everybody know who she is but none of them are her friends and she prefers to read books and spend time with her father. When watching the movie you maybe notice that Belle is the only person who wears blue in her village which shows her difference from the rest of the village and when she meets the Beast he also wears blue showing how he is also different to everybody else and an individual. Belle is an outgoing and strong person who knows exactly what she wants but is it enough for her to look past the Beasts original angry personality.
The Beast is the second leading character in the film who starts of as a boy in the prologue and becomes a Beast due to his mean spirit and selfishness. His temper is awful and he is easily angered by the simplest thing but can he change. I love in this film the Beasts changing personalities as it shows that everybody can change if the really want to. It doesn't tell you in the film but the Beasts real name is Adam.
Gaston is the best looking and strongest guy in the village and ever girl loves him and everybody wants to be him along with his side kick LeFou which in French means the idiot or the fool he struts around the village as if he owns the place. He is the kind of guy who wants to marry the one girl who doesn't love him which is Belle. What I love about the film is how throughout the film Gaston becomes more beast like whereas the Beast becomes more man like as the film progresses showing that no matter what you look like on the outside it's the inside that matters and no matter how much like a man you look if you are not a man on the inside it will eventually show. I understand completely why Belle does not love him he makes me shiver by just how shallow he is and I would never go with somebody like that so loud and boastful.
Maurice is Belles father who is an inventor and cares for Belle despite being a little bit insane as you can expect with an inventor.
Now onto the thing which makes this movie even more special which are the mystical servants. My favourite which I don't know will be everybody's but is Mrs. Potts who is voices for the ever talented Angela Lansbury. Mrs. Potts reminds me just of my nana as she is so caring and cares for everybody and is just like everybody's mother. Mrs. Potts is also very strong and is also very willing to tell of the Beast her master which also makes her very brave considering how fragile she is. Mrs. Potts son is Chip who is lovely and sweet who has a lovely bond with Belle and even saves everybody near the end of the film. Chip is just so cute you cannot help but fall in love with him and want to take him home. An interesting fact is that chip is the only mystical character to call Belle, Belle all of the others call her 'the girl' or 'she' and some others.
Lumiere is the candlestick who is a very romantic character. Lumiere often disobeys the Beast who comes to him for advice. Lumiere takes a shine to Belle straight from the start mainly because of her ability to break the spell but as the get to know each other he definitely becomes closer to her. Lumieres romantic nature brings him very close into a relationship with FiFi one of the feather dusters. Lumiere and Cogsworth have a great relationship which I think adds most of the comic value to this movie as it reminds me of brothers squabbling over trivial things.
Cogsworth as I just said is Lumiere best friend despite their arguing. He is a miniature clock who is very strong willed and as with Lumiere is very loyal to the Beast however a little but more afraid of him than Lumiere. The voice of Cogsworth also voiced the narrator at the start of the movie.
Another of my favourite characters is the Wardrobe even if her role is very small she still adds the value especially when the moths fly out of her drawers as it has not being opened in a long time showing the need for a female around the house.
In the 90s everybody was looking forward to new graphic developments as in Toy Story however now Disney have gone back to 2D drawings with the Princess and the frog which to be honest is my favourite kind of film as it shows the hard work which has being put into the movie.
Music is one thing that makes the movie even better and won an Oscar and A Golden Globe for the song Beauty and the Beast and an Oscar nomination for the songs Belle and Be Our Guest and Golden Globe nomination for Be Our Guest. The Beauty and the Beast soundtrack is spellbinding and brilliant.
The first song in the movie is Belle which as I said earlier details how different Belle is in the village and gets you ready for the movie by telling you about Belle the song is beautiful and perfect for the film and Belle. The song Belle is later reprised after Gaston's asks Belle to marry him Gaston is not one of my favourite songs but still shows Gaston in a true light and shows how popular he is in the village. Be Our Guest is an amazing song mainly sung by Lumiere which is used to welcome Belle to the castle. The song was originally written for Maurice but the writers did not want such a good song to be ruined on a second degree character. There's Something There is beautiful and is sung mainly by Belle and the Beast after they have gotten to know each other a bit. Beauty and the Beast is the best song in the movie and actually one of my favourite songs ever which is sung fully by Mrs. Potts.
The final song will ruin the end of the film but I must tell you it is fantastic.
If you buy the special edition DVD you get an extra song which was scrapped from the original called Human Again where the characters are all cleaning the house ready for Belle and the Beasts dinner and they all sing about what it would be like to be Human Again and how much they wish it would happen. As an avid fan of this film the first time I watched the DVD after switching from video to DVD I found it very strange however it has grown on me and therefore now I just think of it as a classic and always being there.
One interesting fact (or I think its interesting but I am a BIG Disney fan) is that this film was the first Disney animated film to have the lead song (Beauty and the Beast) made into a pop song and played at the end of the film. The song was recorded by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson.
The movie was nominated for an Oscar for best movie which is the first and only animated film ever to be nominated for an Oscar for best picture and if you ask me should have won against Silence of the Lambs which did win. Beauty and the Beast won a Golden Globe for best picture.
Walt Disney twice tried to make this movie during his life but could never find a suitable storyline and it was not until 1991 years after Disney's death in 1966 that this film was actually made. The film has a certification of U which proves that it is suitable for anybody. The film runs for a total of 81 minutes which is about average for a Disney film as they are for children who cannot stay up for 3 hours.
Beauty and the Beast have had a few made to video movies my favourite and the most popular and known being Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas which adds extra characters to the movie and is set between the start and end of the original film. This sequel is well worth a quiet Christmas night watch as it is good however don't expect it to be as good as the original however the songs are spellbinding even in this one. New characters are added but it still has all of your favourites as the new characters are not as exciting as the old ones.
Believe me you will love this film and by the end you will be singing and dancing to it as if you had seen it a hundred times.
Disney Think Fast is a game for the Wii which costs around £15 I bought mine from Amazon where it was £14.99. Do not buy it from somewhere like game where it is £24.99 partly because you can get it £10 cheaper but also for the reasons I am going to explain in this review.
The front of the case says that it is a family quiz game and that it was Disney and therefore I thought well even though we are an older family we would still like this game as myself especially I am a big Disney fan and loved Disney trivial pursuit the board game and assumed this would be similar, however I was wrong.
For this game you need the Wii remote and the nunchuck and the game tells you briefly how to use the controls however the instruction booklet tells you more. The control pad or control stick can be used for navigating and selecting an answer. The B button or the C button can be used for undo or go back. The A button or the Z button mean select and the + button means pause. The nunchuck or the Wii remote can be flicked in the direction of the answer to select however I found this quiet annoying as it often selected the wrong answer.
The game itself is for up to four contestants can play taking the role of one of Disney's most loved classic Disney characters such as Mickey, Goofy, Donald or Minnie. The game is set around a gameshow theme and therefore the gameshow has a host who is the Genie from Aladdin, I personally do think this is very predictable as even I can do a Genie voice as it is a very easy voice over to do however I do think it works in the game very well and the Genie as the host was actually my favourite part of the game and to children especially the jokes are very funny personally I do think the Genie is used in all Disney things like this as he is a easy character to voice over and he is well liked and people remember who he is as he is very popular.
The quiz has over 5,000 questions of what the game calls a selection of Disney trivia and general knowledge. I expected it to be completely Disney as it is called Disney Think Fast but I think what annoyed me more was the fact that the Disney questions were not even very hard and some of the were general knowledge disguised as Disney questions such as 'What animal am I?' and then having a picture of a Disney character for example one I saw was one of the 101 Dalmatians. There are all 15 different rounds so then the game will never be the same every time and a selection of mini-games.
There are two different choices on the main menu either to play multiplayer or single player. Multiplayer is up to four players can compete over five, seven or nine rounds. Single player is seven rounds were the player collects time and points from the first six rounds and then races against the clock in the seventh and final round. After the player chooses multiplayer or single player they much then pick their style from quick start which is were the player starts the game using default settings. In standard play the players can choose game length, location, character and buzzer sounds. Finally in custom play the players customise their own game but only in multiplayer mode and they can select from their favourite rounds. I started by playing standard play but after the game I tried custom play so that I could choose rounds which were more Disney related after being very annoyed in my first game were there was only one real Disney round.
Apart from choosing the length, location, character and buzzer each player must choose their own difficulty by how much they know about Disney the difficulty settings are a lot, some or a little. I choose a lot as I am a huge Disney fan however when it came to the game I was very disappointed as most of the questions could be answered by somebody who knew virtually nothing about Disney and had only ever seen a few films and knew a few facts not by somebody like myself who has seen every single Disney movie since the first ever one. This disappointed me very much and I just wondered how easy a little Disney knowledge selection would be.
When it comes to actually answering the questions the concept is very easy you get the question at the top of the screen followed by the answer screen underneath with a selection of four answers to choose from. The timer is in the corner with a Mickey head shape and sometimes points are within the timer because with some questions the quicker you answered a question the more points you got which I loved as I knew all the answers within about 2 seconds. The Disney think fast has a selection of 15 rounds which are supposed to test your knowledge with a selection of questions, movie clips, mini games and true or false. In the question part players are given four options and they much choose one. I played very little mini-games during my play however I found these to be quiet interesting with classic games such as higher or lower and throwing to knock things down but all with a Disney twist and trust me this is the most Disney thing about this game.
I would not recommend this game to any big Disney fan as you would be disappointed as it does not have any questions that somebody who liked and enjoyed Disney for many years would not know unlike the board game that I have Disney Trivial Pursuit which is much more challenging. However for anybody with very young children this is a good game for the price however I would not recommend it for families just young children. The only thing I am glad about when I bought this game is that I used a voucher to purchase it and did not waste my own money on the rubbish. Anybody who buys it will be very disappointed as the questions are ridiculous for example I got one asking me 'which one of these can you not eat?' with the pictures of an apple, and orange, a banana and a toothbrush and I think everybody knows you should not eat your toothbrush and does not actually have anything to do with Disney. If you are looking for a good Wii game why not try something like Big Brain Academy, Monopoly (previously reviewed) or Smarty Pants all a similar price and all much better than this game as they are not disguising themselves as a Disney game. I personally think this game should not even be called Disney as it is completely false advertising the only thing that makes it remotely Disney is using Disney character (but even using the Genie in everything is starting to get boring to me) and the bright colours which everybody recognises as Disney. For anybody with young children buy this but if your young children are like I was huge Disney fans then I do not think you should as they will complain that it has nothing to do with Disney. If you want something Disney you would be much better of just going out and buying on of Disney's selection of many great family movies for them to watch. If you want Disney please do not buy this game you will be disappointed and feel as if you have wasted money on something that should really be sold in the pound shop because it is that rubbish.
Studentroom is an internet website for students who want help with their studies and personal lives which is very easy to join and only takes a few minutes and all you need is an email address and a screen name.
After I found out that I was the only one of my friends actually leaving Hull to go to University I was feeling unsure about leaving home because I was worried that many other people would just stay in their home towns as well. I decided to go and discuss it with a university counsellor who recommended studentroom and told me that I would find many other students in the same predicament as me. Studentroom is for anybody in education including GCSE's, A-levels, University applications and help with degrees.
I did not join the website for help with the application process but to meet other people going to university and possibly doing the same course as me and to talk to them about my problems and their own problems and it has made me much less worried about going to University in September.
The welcome page has a lot of help about other websites which can help you with further study like help on accommodation, finance and which university to choose. As well as this after you become a member the homepage has recent activity on threads you have subscribed to or which you have posted on or started.
Studentroom has many different areas to help you with every aspect of student life. Articles which are written by students and I found very helpful as it gave a students view on different universities and not just the view of the professors who of course are going to tell you its fantastic. Other articles are also included to help students with their personal lives. I find the forum pages to be very helpful as you can read other peoples questions and also post your own questions for help from other students. The forums also include help with your personal life and health as well as help on careers and finance. Studentroom offers help in every aspect of study from GCSE to degree level. I would recommend the forums as even though they can be a little bit repetitive with people posting the same question everyday even though they can be easily found they are very helpful with anybody a little bit worried about student life. The only thing I find annoying is sometimes I feel people are on their just to brag like I got 8 A*s and 9 As at GCSE and 6 As at As and I'm predicted 5 As for A-level would I be able to get into Oxford which I find very annoying as these people known perfectly well they have a shot and just want to brag to other people who did not get all As.
Each University also have their own forum which I found so useful as I found 2 people who are hoping to go to the same university and I have been emailing them and 1 person who is on the same course as me which is very rare to find as there are only 12 places on my course and she was very helpful with telling me what the course had from a student perspective.
You sometimes get past students coming on to help which can sometimes be useful some people just want to talk about getting drunk and never going to class and that it doesn't matter if you skip lessons but some are actually helpful on how to save a bit of money and the lectures.
For anybody having difficulty with their personal statement they can send it to an actual helper who will confidentially look through your personal statement and send you feedback which is very helpful as to become a personal statement helper you need to have either graduated university or be there which means they have already written a personal statement. You would not believe it but sometimes people do post their personal statements on the main forums which means anybody could read them and take bits off them which is plagiarism and therefore you could get your application withdrawn for something silly like that.
For anybody who either is a student or has a child who is a student this is a very helpful website for help with everything I went on here after my history A-level exam in January as I felt it went really bad and wanted to discuss it with other people who had done the same exam. Anybody who wants to talk about an exam just make sure you wait a few days for posting about an exam as you can get in trouble as some people still may not have done the exam yet due to the fact that they had conflicting exams.
I have lived in Hull all of my life and I do a lot of shopping mainly in Hull and therefore can give a good idea to anybody planning to come shopping in Hull. I do not think that shopping in Hull is as good as other places nearby such as York but it still has a fair amount of shops which can make it a fairly enjoyable day or more probably half a day starting at about 12.
The first thing I want to say about Hull is do not listen to what other people say Hull is a nice place to live and shop and if not full of chavs as many people try to make out.
Hull has recently opened a new shopping centre (St Stephens) which I now do not know what I did without even just the opening of Tesco in town has made my life so much easier. The other main shopping centre in Hull is Princes Quay however since the opening of St Stephens has actually gone down hill as a lot of shops left to go to St Stephens and no new shops have come to take over their place and some shops in Princes Quay have also opened new stores in St Stephens and kept their old store in Princes Quay so there is not as much need to go to Princes Quay as there used to be. Apart from their amazing cinema Vue which is far better than the one in St Stephens. There is also Prospect Centre but I do not really think you can call that a shopping centre more the street with a roof however if you are looking for a BBs I would recommend the one in Prospect Centre and it is absolutely freezing in St Stephens. Prospect Centre has shops such as WH Smiths, Wilkinson's, Gamestation, CEX, Miss Selfridges and the always popular poundshop. There are also many shops on the streets such as Whitefriargate with shops such as New Look, Marks and Spencer, Lush and HMV. Hull also has some department stores such as BHS, Debenhams and House of Frasers. However King Edward Street seems very quiet since the closure of Woolworths.
Ouside the centre of Hull I find Kingswood to be the best place to shop with ASDA, Next, Matalan and Argos as well as bowling and Cineworld.
Princes Quay has stores such as Earnest Jones, Game, Disney shop, Superdrug, Dorothy Perkins, what I think can only be called a sale New Look were the sell all the items that they do not sell in the main store, Vision Express and River Island, plus a fantastic Vue at the top where the market area used to be.
St Stephens has stores like Tesco which I do not know how anybody lived without as I always buy my sandwiches from there and it is much cheaper and they have normal flavours unlike boots for example who have the weirdest sandwiches. St Stephens as I said have taken many shops from Princes Quay such as TK Maxx which now makes the bottom of Princes Quay almost pointless and also there are many duplicates such as Game, Top Shop, River Island, New Look and Dorothy Perkins. An Argos recently moved into St Stephens and I don't think anybody would believe moved from across the road from St Stephens and they could have carried all there stock over if the had wanted to that's how close it is. New stores have come to Hull which we have never had before including H&M, Zara and Jane Norman. Plus Next has moved into St Stephens and is now much better than it used to be. However despite the fact I use St Stephens a lot I do have disputes with the place for example when it rains the place does sometimes leak. My main dispute though would be the cold as inside St Stephens is colder than outside and even some of the staff have to wear coats in winter which does not look very professional.
As well as shopping in Hull there are also some amazing places to eat include more Weatherspoons than any city needs. Hull also has some amazing free Museums including the Wilberforce museum which is for William Wilberforce who was actually from Hull.
I think Hull id maybe not one of the major cities but this last year many more people have come to Hull as Hull City finally went into the Premiership and I would recommend anybody coming to Hull for Hull Citys games in their second season should have a look around Hull and not just go to KC and leave. People who are near Hull for example on holiday should give Hull a try as trust me you would be pleasantly surprised how different Hull is to the awful press they receive from people who have never actually been to Hull.
Despite only been young a few years ago I was saying I would never shop online but now I actually do shop online however not for everything.
The reasons I like to shop online is mainly due to the time and effort you have to put into shopping. My mains reasons for shopping online are that you do not have to pay to park or wait for and then sit on the bus which I hate so much. I love the fact of been able to shop 24 hours as I am a morning person who loves been busy right from 7 am plus aswell as shopping in the morning I can do it in my pyjamas which is perfect as if I went to the shops in my pyjamas people would surely stare. As well as everything mainly online is cheaper not by much but still if for example recently I asked my mum for a DVD for my birthday and she went out everywhere in town looking for the cheapest price as if she can find the same thing cheaper somewhere else it equals more money for more gifts but she went around everywhere and the cheapest she found it for was £14.99 with HMV selling it for £14.99 she came home and went on HMV and found it for £12.99 of course she went back into town later that week and returned the DVD and now does most of her DVD and game shopping online as even places like HMV have the items cheaper on the internet than in the store which I personally think is ridiculous I know the have their reasons like they have to hire staff and they need to rent the property but still it is ridiculous even for just a £2 difference.
Of course offline shopping has its advantages as well. I do not actually mind looking around shops and if I was busy at work all of the time I would shop online much more as not everybody has the time to go shopping but as I am a student I think it gives me the time to get out of the house instead of been inside all the time. It is also a great way of meeting up with my friends and doing something I need to do at the same time. Another thing is that personally I do not like shopping online for what actually is the most popular form of shopping online which is for groceries as I like to go into the shop as it gives me ideas of what to buy and what to have for meals and plus I like to see what is on offer. Plus I can choose my own alternatives if the do not have something I want. Plus returns is difficult which is why I do most of my online clothes shopping on Littlewoods as it is free returns so I can try things on without having to pay to have them sent back. If I cannot find anything I do like to be able to see what things looks like for free and therefore would usually go to the shops. If I need something I will always go to the shop as you have to wait for your items to arrive and therefore do not get them near enough instantly. My main dispute with shopping online is when they say your item is coming on Monday between 9am and 6pm and you have to stay in all day and what I find even more annoying is when the say they are coming on Monday you wait in all day only for it to come on Tuesday at 6pm so that is 2 wasted days.
I have to admit though even though I was not initially interested in shopping now every time my new Littlewoods catalogue comes I have it open with a piece of paper writing down everything I'm going to order and it is then so easy to do it online. The main shopping I do online is for my DVDs and games as they are nearly always cheaper and if you don't know what DVD you want you can easily look up lots of different DVDs and plus I know the HMV where I live is so packed that unless you know what you want you would not be able to stand and read the back of the box as you would be in everybody's way.
My advice to anybody shopping online though is to make sure the website is secure and read some reviews on the website if you have never heard of them before. It has never happened to me personally but I know people who have bought things from websites only for not only the item not to arrive but also for their bank accounts to be emptied because it is a scam.
