Advantages: Speeds up work, professional look and feel
Disadvantages: Downloads required for some applicatons
The 3dconnexion Spacenavigator is an incredibly useful time saving bit of kit.
I use this primarily for Photoshop and 3ds Max, it can also be used with Google Earth and a whole host of other professional applications.
When using it with Photoshop it is very useful, it can be used to move the image you are working on around the screen when zoomed in, it will also zoom in/out and can be used to twist/rotate an image. The buttons on the object are programmable, which gives the option of assigning buttons in Photoshop that you use a a lot to the Spacenavigator. Personally I assigned the left and right buttons to change the brush sizes quickly, this speeds up your work greatly and makes things a lot easier.
In 3ds Max the 3dconnexion Spacenavigator really comes to life, moving objects in 3d just using your left or right hand, it feels intuitive and really speeds up the editing process.
The product is extremely easy to use and weighted effectively so that it doesn't slip or lift off the desk when you use it. One problem is that for a lot of applications it is not out of the box ready and and download is required. The metallic finish and blue ring of light to indicate it is on gives it a professional look and feel.
Overall a well conceived product which really speeds up your work.
Summary: a well conceived product which really speeds up your work.
