Advantages: sensitive, multi functional, light weight, stylish
Disadvantages: Full use of the mouse features will vary on different mac os systems
A year ago I bought a 13" macbook pro from pc world. Unfortunately the Macbook didn't come with a mouse (probably due to the fact it has a multi-touch pad built into it) so I decided to splash out and pay for the brand spanking new "Magic Mouse". At the time I paid around £60 for the mouse, but i'd just spend £1000 on a laptop so the price didn't really phase me.
I'll be honest the wireless mouse did excite me quite a bit, it came in a plastic container with some mini plinth inside the case that held the mouse in place; it was somewhat over the top, but i liked it! The actual design of the mouse is fantastic, it's very stylish and streamline line many other of apples products; it's almost like a work of art in the same way a car design could be considered a work of art; seriously cool. If you easily get excited about gadgets this will probably tip you over the edge.
If you use you Apple computer quite allot then you'll probably find that the touchpad (if you own a laptop) becomes annoying to use and it's practically useless if your a designer. So the next step would be to purchase a mouse. I know your probably thinking, "why didn't I get a mouse with my computer?". The reason for that is because if you didn't pay for the mouse separately then Steve Jobs wouldn't be able to buy his second home, and then where would steve jobs spend his summer vacations? at his first home? don't be ridiculous!! Anyways, I digress. The Magic Mouse comes with a whole range of features that can be performed with a simple click or swipe across the smooth piece of acrylic on the top of the mouse. These are the following features your can perform on this mouse.
Features:
Click
Two-button click
360°-scroll
Screen zoom
Screen pan
Two-finger swipe
One finger swipe
Two-finger double tap
One-finger double tap
Max Operating Distance: up to 10m
Note: The zoom gesture can sometimes be a nightmare in 3d programs and google maps, the zoom is very sensitive, but you can adjust the settings to suit your needs.
The mouse is also wireless, which I love and you can connect the device by using the bluetooth settings on your mac. The actual mouse is battery operated, and a little black switch underneath allows you to remove and replace batteries without any hassle what so ever. If you are left-handed you can easily adjust the settings to suit your needs swell. The fact that the mouse doesn't come with any physical buttons on its face means thats the perfect mouse for both left/right handed users.
Cost Today: you can pick one of these mice up for anything between £40-60 online.
Conclusion: This mouse is amazing, if you own an apple computer I would suggest throwing your old mac mouse against a wall and buying one of these. I have used the earlier versions of the Apple mouse and they are truly useless; I honestly don't know how people can use them.
Would I recommend this product? Hell Yes!
Summary: Not just a cool gadget, it looks awesome too
