I bought this mouse a while back now as I was so fed up of using the track pad on my laptop - probably just me but I can't use them! I was impressed with the price I paid as it was on a deal in PC World for about £20. I expected it to do what it said on the packaging (which was rather good) and it just didn't. I'll start from the start... The mouse came in the classic sealed plastic packaging that we all know and love to cut our fingers on opening. It included the mouse itself, the flimsy USB wireless receiver and a neat little nylon carry pouch along with a couple of AAA batteries and some instructions, oh and the installation CD. I was impressed with how neat it looked and how compact it was - the USB 'dongle' slides up in to the base of the mouse when not in use and it pops into it's pouch to keep dust and crud off it. Installation was quick and easy and I was up and running. Batteries in, dongle in, off we click.... Immediately I noticed how super sensitive it was so I turned down my mouse pointer speed in the mouse control panel so my eyes could keep up with it. I had the mouse on a white glossy mouse pad and it seemed to work OK for a little while but then it started being jerky. Smooth was the last word to come to this one.... The mouse itself is well designed and very compact - ideal for left or right handed folk. The scroll wheel is sturdy and not too loose or tight and the two buttons are nicely placed and easy to press. Not too loud either for people who have 'click-rage'. The look is basic, black and grey but is quite sleek I guess. The USB receiver is a little flimsy. HP designed it to be long and thin instead of short and fat like other models around now so it tends to stick out from the side the laptop and encourage a snapping - I never managed to do this but a few close shaves were had.... I tried the laser mouse (which I hoped to have precision pointing) on many surfaces. The best I found was the back of a DVD case with no mouse pad! It just didn't seem to perform well a lot of the time and drove me up the wall in the process. I up/downgraded to a Microsoft wired notebook mouse 3000 (see my other reviews) and it's much much better. So, if it were me, never again. If you have one, I hope it's better for you! Thanks for reading.
