Advantages: Relible, nice to use

Disadvantages: Don't rely on extra features

I use a computer all day at work. When I got a new computer, it came with a traditional Microsoft mouse with the ball inside. Within a few months, I was having to dismantle it each day to get it to work. I managed to order a Kensington optical mouse before it left me as a gibbering wreck.

Its a silver mouse with two normal buttons, a wheel in the middle that can act as a third button if you press it down, and two extra buttons on either side.

It came with a USB plug on the end of the lead as well as a USB-to PS2 adaptor plug. I started by plugging it into the USB port on the docking station for my Dell laptop. It didn't work. I fitted the adaptor and tried with the PS2 port and it worked fine. It works fine with the USB port directly on the back of the laptop - I don't know why.

I then tried to install the Mouseworks software. This allows you to configure the extra buttons on the side. There was some sort of error message so I gave up and uninstalled it. This means the 4th and 5th buttons don't do anything.

A year on and it still works exactly the same. You don't need a mouse mat to get it to work smoothly - I can also use the mouse on my knee if I'm sat on a train. Move it and the cursor moves. Click and things happen. I'm happy!
