Advantages: Compact, easy to set up, no need for manufacturer's software
Disadvantages: None that I can see
I saw these on special offer in my local supermarket for £6, so I bought one.
It took me just a couple of minutes to unpack the mouse, USB dongle and batteries, then I followed the instructions in the manual.
When I plugged the dongle into my laptop's USB port, Windows XP recognised it and installed drivers for it within a minute and it was ready to use: I've got the MouseWorks software from Kensington to give me better control, but the standard XP driver works fine as it is.
This is a very responsive mouse, it's small enough to fit in the palm of my hand, it moves very nicely, especially over something like a white sheet of paper (or optical mouse pad), and I just really like using it.
Like with other mice, you can still use your laptop's built-in trackpad (or trackpoint) device instead of the PocketMouse without having to fiddle around with disabling and enabling different pointing devices.
There's an on/off switch on the underside that you can use to turn it off if you don't need to use it for a long time, and a built-on inactivity timer that switches the mouse off after a period.
You can use the scroll wheel to wake the mouse up again if the timer switches it off.
A great buy for £6, I've yet to find any flaws with it, and I like it so much that when I told a friend about it, he asked me to get one for him, and he's impressed with it too - even Windows 2000 will recognise it automatically.
I would recommend reading the enclosed manual before setting up the mouse, as they include tips on the best surfaces to use it on and you need to press a connect button on the dongle when you insert or change the batteries, but that's fair enough to me.
Summary: A great value little mouse that's at home with a laptop

- 10/09/09 Good review, I'm hopeless at using mouses/mice? now because I've had a laptop for so long. |
