Advantages: Feels nice, reliable, loads of useful features.

Disadvantages: It's clearly designed for gamers, casual users beware.

Logitech have a great reputation for creating great peripherals. Their reputation for Mice/Keyboards alone is outstanding, generally speaking. The G5 Laser Mouse is no exception. The G5 is a mouse designed specifically for gaming, FPS (First Person Shooter) gaming to be precise. It will, however, accomodate other games nicely. You can tell this mouse is designed for gamers, because of the features it houses. Lets take a look at some of the key features and physical attributes on the G5:

We'll start with the shape of the mouse. It's a very nice mouse to hold, shaping to any hand it comes across, and sitting nicely in the palm (I tried it out on a few friends for the purposes of this review, and they all decided it was very comfortable to hold). Some mice have a tendancy to be too shapey or curvey, which I personally hate. The G5 however, manages to strike a nice balance, and is always a joy to use.

It comes in a variety of colours depending on where you buy it from. I bought mine from PC World so I got the standard Orange/Black combo, but other variations are available - making it quite customisable. So, whatever your colour tastes, Logictech should be able to accomdate you with this particular model.

On the top of the mouse you have the standard mouse wheel, which has the handy "click-stop" motion, when scrolling both up or down. Essential for a gamers mouse, or you will end up flicking past that all important weapon or grenade without meaning to.

Perhaps one of the most useful features of the G5 is the sensitivty changer, located on the top of the mouse, right below the scroll wheel. This consists of 2 buttons, which when pressed either up or down will alter the sensitivity of the mouse up or down a few notches. The application for this, I presume, is so that when you have more than one weapon in a game (lets say a machine gun and a sniper rifle), you may use one type of sensitivity for one, and one for the other.

A sniper for example, will want precision, so with the flick of a button you can decrease the sensitivity for that all important shot. If you are using an MP5 on the other hand, you'll want greater range, so you can then knock the sensitivty back up to get just that, all with the flick of a finger. It is much more convenient to have buttons at your finger tips to alter this, than have to go all the way through the menu to change your mouse sensitivity - and die in the process.

The final and perhaps best feature of the G5, is the ability to change the weight of the mouse. On the underside of the mouse, is a cave that houses a small tray, which is removable. When you buy the mouse it comes with a number of circular weights that can be housed in the tray, and then placed in your mouse. There are various weights, which are all interchangeable, allowing you to have precisely the weight of mouse you would like. Some gamers would prefer a light mouse, so they can remove the tray entirely if they so desire, while others like to simulate a heavier type of "gun" mouse. Whatever your weighting desires, the G5 can accomodate you. It was this particular feature that sold the G5 to me, as I am particularly fickle with how heavy my mouse is, and my mood changes with this all the time! It's nice to be able to alter it at will.

The G5 is a nice addition to Logitech's long line of mice, and one that will appeal paritcular to the gamers out there. I can't fault it, I've had no problems with it since the day I took it out of the box - which must be knocking on 2 years now. A Great little mouse, which will greatly enhance your gaming experience.

Summary: Another great little mouse from Logitech - great for gamers.
