Advantages: Fast, adjustable weight, DPI settings.
Disadvantages: None
The Logitech G5 was my first proper gaming mouse. For around £35 - £45 this puppy is a great gaming mouse.
This revision is incredible. 3 DPI settings, 400, 800 and 2000 allow you to switch between different sensitivity settings. At 400 your cursor will track slowly across your screen and would be great for touching up Photographs in Photoshop. I tend to use the 800 setting, which I believe is fast enough for me @1920x1200 gaming resolution. I tried 2000 but haven't got use to it, at this setting your cursor simply flies!
The patterned-stroke-textured grip holds your fingers firmly in place even when clammy from prolonged gaming sessions. You must make sure to clean it regularly or it'll become tacky to the touch. In fact, I've already noticed the finger grips picking up dirt which probably explains why the revision is so darkly coloured. Whether the grips will wear off with time also remains to be seen, but if they do you'll be left with the plastic coating from the old revision and that was ok.
The mouse is supplied with a suite of software. Personally I haven't found the need to install this bundle.
The mouse has 2 side thumb buttons, these are rather small so may not suit everyone. Standard 3 buttons across the top (left, right and centre wheel) and then the 2 buttons for changing the mouse sensitivity.
It has Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) gaming feet, which are super slick over a gaming grade surface. It also has an adjustable weight cartridge which pops out of the bottom of the mouse by pressing a button on the bottom. You can adjust the G5's weight and balance with up to 36 grams.
Great mouse and favourite amongst hardcore gamers!
