I was looking for a mouse to use with my laptop a few months ago but didn't want to spend a fortune. There's a lot out there to choose from and it really does depend on your needs and personal preferences, but for me the Logitech LS1 is a perfect accompaniment on my desk at home.
Logitech is a reputable electronics brand that I trust to make effective products, so I was fairly confident this would be at least okay. The LS1 is a wired mouse of a standard size, which can be used with desktop or laptop computers. Most laptop users want a mini mouse that's wireless, but I wanted something that's easy to use for longer periods of time.
This mouse has a sleek black, shiny appearance with a slight lime green line around the circumference. I like the design because it's quite understated yet elegant and yet looks like good quality rather than like tacky plastic. In fact, I'd say it looks more expensive than what I paid for it, which is always a bonus.
The LS1 has two buttons and a scroll wheel, along with two smooth sections to each side to act like grips just to make it a little more comfortable and easy to use. It's a laser mouse so there's no irritating tracker ball to deal with.
This connects via USB, and it's a simple case of plug and play. You don't need to be getting out a DVD with software to install it, so it's very quick and easy to set up once you've found yourself a spare USB port to plug it in to. This works with Windows XP and above, as well as Mac OSx. I use Windows 7 and have found it to work without any problems to report.
The cable is a generous length to allow for ease of positioning; the USB I'm using is on the opposite side of my laptop to where I use the mouse, and there's plenty of cable left over so it doesn't snag.
The mouse itself is very ergonomic to use; it fits my hand well and it's comfortable to use for a more extended period of time. The laser is sensitive to just the right amount, making it highly responsive but not darting all over the place constantly. The buttons and scroll wheel work well and feel like good quality, in the sense that I've not noticed any form of sticking or friction that prevents them from working smoothly.
The mouse is suitable for left and right hand use, but as I'm a righty I can't really comment on the ease of use for those that are left handed. You also get a 3 year manufacturers guarantee, which is good to know.
All in all this mouse is easy to use, responsive and smooth, looks good with a sleek design and feels like it has a good build quality to last you a while.
