Advantages: Lots of buttons, good batter life
Disadvantages: flimsy mouse wheel
The Logitech MX Revolution is one of the best wireless mice currently available today, but it is let down by the flimsy mouse wheel.
The design of the mouse is slick and rather sexy (yes sexy). It is coated in black; the left side is more of a glossy black, the right side is a dark shade of black and the top is a light shade of black (the top and right side also have a fantastic smooth texture). It also has rubber on the left side for grip which would obviously come in handy when doing something that may require a steady hand.
Its odd shape has grown on me but when I first had it I was somewhat surprised and even captivated by its weird structure. It has a sort of arc shape which allows your hand to essentially meld with it, making it very comfortable and easy to use.
It boasts multiple features including a free-spinning scroll wheel, which in addition to scrolling up and down allows you to scroll left and right. It also has a side scroll button that allows you to flip through open windows (Windows Flip 3D) something I believe is only available through Windows Vista. It also includes a 'One touch button' which once pressed allows you to search for anything instantaneously on Yahoo. There are also two side buttons which have multiple benefits such as easily going back and forward on a webpage and scrolling down a document with multiple pages.
The battery life is fairly good. It lasts a good week when I regularly use my PC and roughly two weeks when I don't.
Now for the main problem: The dodgy mouse wheel. The wheel is very loose and lacks rigidity that is necessary especially when playing games. I think one of the main reasons why it's so loose may be down to the fact that I played with the free-spinning mode copiously when I first received it (free-spin can be enabled by clicking once on the mouse wheel or selecting free spin on the Logitech Setpoint software which is included with the mouse) even so, I believe that there was a lack of care and possibly dedication in the design and manufacturing of the wheel.
I do rate the mouse highly, but if you're a gamer than I'd advise you to look elsewhere. At first the wheel may be great but as time goes by it will lose its rigidity. For general use the mouse is perfect. It has multiple buttons with different functions which can all be reprogrammed using the SetPoint software. It looks great, feels great and works great and I believe that it is worth the price tag. I got mine for about £60 last year and I believe you can get it for £10 less now.
Summary: A great mouse with great design let down by flimsy mouse wheel
