Advantages: Responsive, Cheap, compatible
Disadvantages: Slippy, Plain looking
We all seek a cheap mouse and from time to time, we come across a bargain. The Logitech range are the perfect suppliers to fit our criteria on price and with this Pilot Wheel Mouse, they score quite highly in other areas of Rodent Ergonomics too! With its traditional looks and colour, there is nothing outstanding to look at with the Logitech Pilot. In fact, its is very bland in appearance. The only saving grace is perhaps the 2 buttons that mould well around the mouse wheel for scrolling ease. Colours, well it comes in the very bland Grey/beige that so many Logitech products com in. At least they do not "Yellow" with age like some of the beige products. Functionality is very good. The mouse is very responsive and dircetional control is excellent. The 2 buttons are springy and light and sensitive to small touches. No banging away on them to get a reading. The wheel in the middle allows for greater menu scrolling witinh applications and prevents the need for "dragging" with the menu. Its Rubber construction however becomes greasy and slippy. This applies to the actual mouse to as grip seems to be a problem. The rollers inside the mouse are how the movement is controlled. Basically the Ball on the bottom moves rollers inside which tell the computer which way its going. With your desk having dust and other bits on it, this gets picked up by the ball and stuck to the rollers which stop the mouse working well. This needs cleaning. With the Logitech, access to the ball is very easy with an door on the bottom. This unscrews and allows both the ball and rollers to be cleaned with ease. Compatibility is very good. This mouse works with backward operating systems such as Windows 95/98 right through NT4, ME, Windows 2000, XP and even Linux and other non windows systems. Drivers are supplied on a floppy disk if needed. It comes with a PS/2 connector so it can fit in both a standard Mouse p
ort and a USB port. Drawbacks would stretch to the bad grip of the actual mouse and the cord length. I feel it could be a lot longer for a better range from the computer Overall, this is a great mouse and its good for its price of £9.99.

- 19/02/04 Not at all mate. I don't see it as 'teaching my granny to suck eggs'.
This review is clearly below par, and is way off the standard of many in this section.
How long you have been writing here is irrelevant, and in fact reflects on this review even worse - especially considering that you are in the IT business!
I think that your comment was a little arrogant, given that no-one is above constructive criticism!
You know full well that this review obivously contains far less effort and information than many others in this section.
That is why I rated it 'U', and why I left the comment that I did.
There are much better reviews on this site - alot of them are written by you :)
It is obvious that you can do alot better than this given your experience, so rather than arguing the point, why don't you just hold your hands up, say 'My bad', and sort the review out.
Dave :)
PS. For your information, I have been told by dooyoo that they will be taking me on in a few weeks as the computers guide, so I do know what I am talking about.
PPS. I could play sunday league football for 10 years - does that make me David Beckham?

- 19/02/04 A good review, but I felt information was a little thin on the ground here.
Perhaps some headings (Value/Ergonomics/Aesthet ics/Features/Software etc) to break the review into digestible chunks would improve readability, at the same time as helping you organise more concise information into it. This isn't meant to sound preachy at all, just a little advice to get more of those precious VU ratings!
I am a big fan of logitech devices, having reviewed their Cordless Desktop MX (which features the MX700 mouse and was crowned); as well as their Wingman Rumblepad and Wingman Extreme Digital 3D Joystick here on dooyoo.
I felt this was a good review though, and I agree with all you have said :)
