Advantages: Great for reliability.
Disadvantages: Lacks extra buttons but I don't need them.
Introduction.
I am what one would call a Mouse freak. I have a collection so vast that my husband is beginning to worry about my sanity. I am fascinated by the things, and do like a mouse that is comfortable to use, but get fed up with using the same one all the time.
Why this one ?
I like optical. I like the fact that mice these days have gotten away from that horrible ball underneath that you have to keep de-clogging. Mine was always getting stuck, and I threw away the ball featured mice ages ago, and do prefer optical ones. I have tried those mice which are cordless, rechargeable, etc., and quite frankly they annoy me so much that I have almost given up on them and have yet to find the ideal one. One of them makes noises when it is in need of charge, and then makes noises when it is fully charged. One gave up the ghost, and one never got past the installation process and sits in the cupboard wishing someone else had bought it.
Straightforward mice are a must for people like me that need simplicity and comfort at the same time. I hate mouse mats, and the optical mice don't need them, which means I can keep the desk free of unecessary things, which in turn makes it easier for me to clean the desk top.
What do you get for your money ?
I believe that you get reliability, a nice feel as well. The buttons are responsive, and the scroll wheel compares well with other mice. I find the click on the scroll wheel very responsive indeed and it certainly beats the Trust mouse in that the scroll is smoother, and the scroll holding button works much better than that on the Trust. What you also get is a CD for installation, although I have to admit that I managed to install mine without the added complication and that replacing one mouse with another was as simple as unplugging the PS/2 and plugging this one in, but I do like the fact that you can connect with a USB since the back of my computer is difficult to get to, and I do have a spare USB slot in the front of the computer which I can use if I wish.
Price : I have to admit to having bought this second hand, and I paid the equivalent of 2 GBP though they are available from 5.50 GBP new and with a three year guarantee, which to me shows that the makers have confidence in their product.
Feel in use.
A mouse forms a very important part of my computer usage. I need it to feel right, to react as I want it to, and the left and right buttons on this mouse are very responsive, the wheel better than many, and the actual feel in the hand not at all fatiguing as some mice are. I love the slimness of the mouse compared with others, and feel that it is very suitable for a female hand. Others have actually made my hand hurt with constant use, and believe me, I use a mouse a lot for games, and need comfort, quick response, and non fatigue, as sometimes I can play for hours at a time.
Of all the mice that belong to my pack, this one has proven to be the most popular of the bunch, with the Trust being a good back-up, although not as nice looking. With a black finish that is easy to clean, this mouse is a strong favourite of mine.
Compatible with Microsoft Windows 98 onwards.
PS/2 and USB adapter included.
Overall impression.
Good value at the price, though basic in functions. If you want reliability and simplicity, they don't come much more simple than this one.
If you want features and extra buttons and bells, keep searching. This is not the one for you.

- 30/10/06 Think we talked about mice before, didn't we?
For a basic but decent, bullet-proof mouse that's generally a joy to use I would really recommend the Microsoft Optical Mouse Blue. My dad has one (on my recommendation) and thinks it's great. The Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer is a bit more expensive but is also fantastic.
If you really want to go to town on a mouse though, have a look here:

My personal weapon of choice is the Razer Copperhead... ;) |

- 29/10/06 I have tried this mouse and found it a bit too big for comfort - but this is a problem I often get with mice (mouses?). I have found a great solution in a laptop sized mouse, which fits my hand comfortably and wasn't too expensive. :-) |

- 29/10/06 Nice review, though I much prefer the Logitech MX 700 cordless mouse myself. And even though it is of the rechargeable type, all you need to do is chuck it into the recharging module whenever the mouse is not in use, so battery power will never drain out in the middle of working (unless you forget to put it there that is). |
