Whilst this mouse was marketed as a laptop mouse, I purchased it for use on my desktop computer as I was in desperate need of a new, good quality mouse but couldn't afford the higher priced and more desktop-orientated MX Revolution at the time. Even this VX Revolution was about double its current price at the time!
Anyway, its lasted me several years and still going strong. In fact, I went out and got a second one for use with my laptop.
The accuracy of the mouse is excellent - I use mine on a very high sensitivity but don't have any problems with missing my target on the screen.
The design and shape of the mouse is very good and fits your hand very well, although I have grown and my hands have become quite large (I'm in my late teens, and got this a few years ago!) and could now do with it being a bit larger... I do sometimes get a bit of hand cramp if I use it for too long. I suppose it is designed to be a compact laptop mouse, so I can't really complain there.
The smooth scroll wheel was a bit of a gimmick... at first it glided with virtually no resistance, but the rubber grip on the wheel stretched after a few weeks of use and rubbed against the edges, slowing it down almost as fast as a normal scroll wheel. I considered sending it back under warranty, but having read that this happens with every single mouse of this model after a few months I decided that it probably wasn't worth going down the road of constantly sending for replacements. I now just use it on the stepped mode like a normal scroll wheel and its fine for most uses.
And it goes without saying that there's no point installing the extra drivers/software unless you have to use the extra buttons. Not worth the fuss and computer resources though in my opinion.
I hahe had 2 of these mice, and found them to be of great quality. The battery life is very good. I had previous MX versions for my desktop which were excellent. This VX model is an excellent choice for laptop users. You do need to be careful of the USB dongle as i broke one when the laptop fell off a table snapping it. I was happy enough with the mouse to purchase another. It should be noted that the new VX nano is now available and may be more suitable for some laptop users as is is smaller than this and has a dongle that does not stick out as far as with this version.
There are numerous buttons on the mouse, and the zoom function can be very useful for web browsing when in a high resolution screen. the forward and backwards buttons and the scroll wheel are the best features, but all the buttons can be fully customised even to use keystrokes. This is excellent for use with games, meaning you can use the mouse for more functions without needing the keyboard.
I reccomment htis whole series of mice, but this version is best suited for laptop use. The USB dongle is stored in the housing of the mouse making it less likely that you will lose it when travelling.
The Logitech VX revolution is a beautiful mouse that does the job very well: very fast and accurate response. I cannot find myself in some reviews that talk about problems with the scroll wheel.
The plus points are definitely the very solid previous and next buttons on the side that are in an ideal place. The scroll wheel is adjustable to everyone's own wishes. The only downside is that the possibility of horizontal scrolling feels less solid than many other Logitech mice. The design is very neat.
Regarding the battery life, Logitech promise that it lasts for 4 months (see their website), but this is not true. With an average use of more than 2 hours (intensive) per day, it lasted for 3 months. This absolutely no point of discussion, since 3 months is very good. The battery indicator on the mouse gives clear and good information, but the indications of the software are unreliable and they are different each day. (One day it is estimated that there are only 3 days left, while the next day it is suddenly back to 25 days)
The software is working well and the wireless connection gives me no problems.
I'm very pleased with this purchase. This mouse is rather expensive, but it does what Logitech promises and this certainly makes it a very solid mouse with a good price / money ratio (it is in terms of quality many times cheaper than similar mice of Trust or other brands)
"How does it feel to use? Does it fit easily into the hand? Is it wireless or corded? If you add some of this let me know!" - MI9to5
Coincidentally, I was about to begin writing a review for this exceptional mouse when I noticed user MI9to5 was requesting extra feedback in another review on the same product. So, here's some additional information for you, MI9to5!
Having owned the VX Revolution for just over a month now, I can confidentially say that it's one of my favourite mouses I have ever used. The VX is touted as powerful wireless mouse designed to let you fly through large documents with speed, or navigate lists, slides, and image collections with it's high precision.
If you're a regular laptop user, I'm sure you'll agree most touchpads and their compact buttons sometimes do not suffice for your productive needs. The VX Revolution, one of Logitech's most popular laptop-friendly point devices, is designed to go along side your laptop when you need it.
The VX Revolution doesn't just sport a compact, fancy chassis; with it's ergonomically sculpted design, it also provides exceptional comfort. There's also textured rubber on either side of the mouse to improve grip, which place the mouse firmly in your hands. I know from when I used a Apple Mighty Mouse, I found the clean, white plastic would usually pick up moisture and become 'slippery' very easily, and difficult to hold steadily. There's also convenient controls embedded into the mouse itself to eliminate less visits to the keyboard. An example of this is the "touch-to-search", which allows one-click access to your favourite search engine, or to search for files on your computer or network. This feature is a real time saver, especially when I need to research someone or something quickly or find a document on my computer. It's simple - just highlight a word or phrase on a webpage or document, and hit the button. I don't think it could be any easier! There's also the usual scroll wheel in the middle of the mouse, which feels like it's made of a high quality metal; there's even a rubber strip wrapped around the middle for additional grip. Surprisingly, there's a 'dotted' texture on the surface of the thumb grip (which could be mistaken for styling) for even more extra grip.
Everything has been thought out well and considered. For example, for portability and convenience, Logitech have allocated an area within the mouse where you can store the micro-receiver for easy transport. There's also a always-on 4-stage battery indicator on the right-side of the mouse to provide warning before a battery's power has been consumed. Logitech quotes that it is possible to receive 4 months of juice from a single AA battery, but because I have only owned the mouse for over a month I unable to correct or applaud that. I can say that so far, I haven't had to change the battery which I received with the mouse itself once yet.
Logitech has also implemented their pioneering technology into the VX, and it's called "MicroGear". MicroGear, which I briefly mentioned earlier on, is a technology designed to accelerator your work style; with hyper-fast scrolling, you can skim through long documents using the MicroGear precision scroll wheel. This feature is particularly useful for spreadsheet users. I don't personally create spreadsheet documents, or use any spreadsheet software for that matter, but I did find this useful for PDF reading, scrolling through long websites and Word documents. You simply flick the wheel and within seconds you're at the end of the page; it's very easy and intuitive.
Logitech have also integrated an advanced laser engine into the VX. What does this mean? Basically, the engine used in the VX allows you to experience great accuracy and flawless tracking on nearly any surface. I most often use on my on a wood desk, but I've tried it on marble and also plastic and the tracking reliability hasn't decreased (or increased for that matter) on any of the surfaces. Don't forget there's a 2.4 GHz reciever too, which in my own experience, is reliable very too.
Being an experimental photographer, I usually spend my free time editing images. A feature of the VX Revolution which I have become to adore is the 'zoom' function - a convenient slider-mechanism which allows you to zoom in and magnify an image at high-resolution effortlessly (or any other document for that matter) at hyper-speed. It's great when I need to get up close and sharpen, remove or edit something specific.
The VX Revolution is compatible with both major operating systems; Windows (XP & Vista) and Mac OS X, however I am unsure of it's compatibility with Linux. The prominent retail price for the VX Revolution is approximately £30.00 GBP ($60.00 USD). This may be a potential disadvantage for regular consumers; but, if you are in need of a efficient mouse, I think you will find the price tag worthy.
Overall, the VX Revolution is a fantastic mouse in my opinion; it's convenient integrated features such as Logitech's own "MicroGear" technology, and one-click access controls make it the perfect companion for my productive needs when using a laptop. The only draw-back is the products suggested retail price; but that doesn't affect me, and it shouldn't affect you either! I'm sure you could easily pick-up a used unit off eBay for much less.
If you're going to be purchasing this in a store rather an online outlet, make sure you look for a dark turqiouse-coloured box, labelled "VX Revolution". There should be a part of the packaging exposing the mouse and it's reciever to for viewing. The package includes:

Revolution is a product released at the 25 anniversary of Logitech, it represents revolutionary character of the company, and it is indeed create a new style of mice. According to the shorting coming of current mice, Logitech took 6 month to modified every part of its mice, and the whole development range is more than 2 years. Revolution is the baby of all these effort.
The most important design is its MicroGear. In MX series, the function of manual shift and smart shift indeed make my work more convinient and effective. It will become very exactly when you need to locate a quite tiny place. And it can also automate switch to smart shift if you lauch a large swift. You can scroll down 10,000 lines in 7 seconds. With a traditional mice, it will take you 500 seconds.
To me, the only drawing point is its price, but it is worth to purchase such a mice to enhance your work.
