      A good PC basic

I got this mouse along with my new Microsoft keyboard as I thought the set would look good together and work together well. I can't remember how much I paid for this exactly but it was pretty cheap around £15 I think and good value for what you get. Currently it is available on Amazon for between £12.25 and £15.67 with shipping.

Overall it is a simple and straight forward mouse with all the features you would expect. It is just over 12cm long and 6.5cm at its widest. It is made out of strong durable plastic and has a very long lead that is 180cm long which is just right for a desktop pc. It connects up using USB.

It has 3 buttons all together; a left and right and also a third which also doubles as a scrolling wheel. The middle button works to help you scroll a page without turning the wheel. The left and right buttons are customisable so you can set it up how you would like. This also makes the mouse ambidextrous along with the mouse being completely symmetrical in design with contours on both sides, so it fits comfortably in either hand.

It comes in two colour options the first being totally black and the second being grey and white like in the example picture. I chose the all black version to match my keyboard and because when I had a white mouse previously it just looked grimy all the time. The black one is easier to keep clean and only gets dirt on the scrolling wheel as this is rubber and covered in ridges to make it easy to grip.

At the back of the mouse under the word Microsoft there is a clear plastic section that houses a red LED, this comes on when you turn your computer on and will stay lit for as long as you are using it. As this is an optical mouse it has a second red light underneath it that is there in place of a traditional ball. This optical sensor is very sensitive and picks up on any movement and it is also very fast to respond. So far it has worked really well and has not got any dirt trapped in the bottom of it like a ball would so you don't have to constantly clean it out.

A good plus point of this mouse is that it does work on any surface and you don't need a mouse mat. My desktop is still set up on the coffee table and the mouse runs fine on that and also was sat on the carpet for the first month I had it and ran well on there too.

When I first got it I just plugged it into my PC via its USB plug and it started working straight away on my windows 7 system. I did not need to run any software or change any settings so a complete novice could use it. From what I have read I believe it will run this simply on XP and vista also.

I would recommend this mouse as it is very reliable and easy to use.
