Advantages: Affordable, easy to install and use, looks nice
Disadvantages: None noted
I got this mouse free with a purchase of my Asus laptop. The device came in a cardboard backing wrapped in clear plastic. In the packaging you found the mouse itself, a single AA battery and the USB wireless dongle that connects to your computer.
Although I got this mouse for free, I believe that it retails for about £8 from my checking on E-bay. I must say that this is quite reasonable for a wireless mouse.
The mouse itself looks futuristic and modern with a black and silver body. It is not that big and clunky compared to some other models. I suppose that this is because this is more of a home user mouse and not meant for gaming. The body comes with 4 buttons: Left click, right click a small button in the middle and a track ball.
Being a conventional user, I found that I rarely used the trackball, instead opting to scroll most of the time. However, I suppose it is a nice option to have and would be useful when scrolling down long pages / documents.
I found that installation of the mouse itself was a breeze. I did it in 3 easy steps without even looking at the user manual. 1) Put in your batteries, 2) Plug in the USB dongle 3) Wait awhile and you're off. Although I must caution that I was testing it on Windows 7, and I'm unsure about the results on other operating systems.
When it came to using the mouse, I did not find it uncomfortable or too big. It fit snugly enough in my palm and navigating it was a breeze. However, like any other mouse, I recommend you adjust its sensitivity to suit your needs.
In terms of useful life, I got the mouse 6 months ago and have yet to make a change of batteries with everyday usage. I'm not sure what the benchmark is on this, but I suppose this is acceptable. However, if you're not using your mouse, be sure to position the USB dongle back behind the mouse in its holder as this will turn the device off and save batteries.
Overall, a great mouse for home use with an added bonus of being wireless
Summary: Nice and basic wireless mouse
