Advantages: A staggering 4000 DPI sensitivity, unique design and a 32KB internal memory

Disadvantages: The lack of Linux support

Razer is known among the gamers for their incredibly well-designed products, primarily their high-end gaming mice. The Razer Copperhead was one of their best mice to have been introduced and it contained a laser sensor with 2000 DPI capabilities, but their newest mouse is the Lachesis and it uses a 4000DPI 3G laser sensor. The big question you have to ask yourself here is if it is worth the expensive price tag?

Now what has the Razer Lachesis to offer:

First of all, there is the 4000 DPI Razer Precision 3G Laser sensor. If you use this mouse for the first, you will have some trouble using it. I can tell you that 4000 a lot! After a couple of weeks, you get familiar with it and you will have extreme pleasure of it. This 3G laser sensor has already a patent pending. There are two buttons which can be used to adjust the amount sensitivity in increments of 125 DPI.

The Razer Lachesis has a total of 9 independently programmable Hyper-response buttons. This is the reason why it is loved by many gamers. The mouse comes with software for the button configuration and special settings. It even has a 32 KB internal memory which allows the users to save their profiles to the mouse rather than to your system. In other words, if you use this mouse on a different computer, the saved profiles will go with you. The profiles can be switched with the profile button, which is located on the bottom of the mouse. This is very handy if you often go to your friend his home to play third person shooter against him.

It also has a very unique design. It has a very 'cool' gold plated USB connector. I hope this doesn't make the mouse more expensive, because if you want one, you have to pay around 50 £. It is quite expensive. It has a zero acoustic Ultra-slick Teflon feet for good sliding purposes. This mouse is a lightweight, it only weights 130 grams. It has a staggering response time: 1000Hz Ultra-polling / 1ms response time. This is due to the seven-foot, lightweight, non-tangle cord. I must say that cordless mice aren't that good for gaming because the reaction speed isn't that good. I can also guarantee you that you don't want to lose a round because the batteries are low on power!!!

Besides the many features, there is one disadvantage: there aren't true Linux drivers available. On a number of occasions in the past, Razer has promised to support their mice under Linux. However, they have yet to properly provide any level of support. This doesn't mean the mouse doesn't work under Linux. You just can't adjust the button settings. But since you pay a lot for these options, I think they need to support Linux. Another reason is because Linux is the future operation system. I hope they will realize this very soon!!!

Overall opinion: Although the Razer Lachesis costs a lot, around 50 £, I think it is definitely worth the money. A great functionality with a staggering 9 buttons plus the exceptional build quality of this mouse and its phenomenal design makes it the perfect gaming mouse! My only complaint is the lack of Linux support. It might take some to feel comfortable using this mouse but after some time you will get used to it, believe me!!!

Summary: It is quite expensive but you won't regret it if you get used to the enormous sensitiviy!
