Tesco MT08
by iamasadlittleboy Recently I moved in with my other half and although she can cook, I really can't. In fact if it wasn't for her I'd be living on soup, bacon sandwiches and beans on toast. Sadly however I have a pretty unique sleep pattern and she can't always be available at 3AM to make her delightful curries. My grandparents, knowing my cooking ... abilities, gave us an early Christmas present, a new Tesco MT08 Digital Microwave, meaning that , even at 3AM I can eat! The microwave, coming in simply black and white looks the part of a cheap microwave, there is no pretence here of it being a high quality item expected to be able to last a life time or being able to do some of the things a high price microwave does. However it suits our kitchen which already had a white kettle, a white toaster, a white fridge and a (broken) white washing machine. So in terms of looks it's sort of what you expect, simple but it's a microwave, not a picture. In the box is a microwave (yes stating the obvious) and the instructions, though being a guy I sort of skipped the instructions and just realised it's controls were very similar to my mothers microwave and as a result very simple. If you need the instructions you can use them, though I've hardly looked at them knowing how it works anyway. There is only 5 buttons on the machine "Power", "Auto Defrost", "Clock", "Start/Quick Start" and "Stop/cancel" along with a wheel which allows you to set the time, power and defrost weights all very straight forward. In terms of it's size it apparently holds 17 litres which looking around does seem rather small with many being 28 litres or even 38 litres (who needs to microwave something that large?). Though saying that it does fit in our biggest plates meaning we can microwave any left over meals, as we recently did with some kebabs after a long night. Though I imagine if our plates were any bigger we may struggle to get them to rotate properly on the spinning plate thing. Whilst it's size may be an issue to some people, it's certainly not the issue that has bugger myself, instead it's the power, or rather lack of that has bugged me. It's only 700 watt which is, in all honesty very poor. Due to the relative lack of power it's struggled to warm some things properly. It did the kebabs perfectly fine, however it's made having things like Horlicks (heated milk in the microwave) incredibly annoying as it simply doesn't heat the milk properly and microwave burgers (Rustlers) can also be temperamental. After a quick look on Tesco's website the microwave costs around £40 which is I guess what's to be expected of a relatively limited microwave. Whilst it's limited (in both size and power) I think personally, it'll do someone like me fine overall. It's not got the features like a grill that some more pricey microwaves have got, it's not big and it's not powerful, but it does tend to get the job done...even if you do need to whack an extra few seconds on here and there. As long as you get used to tacking on a bit of extra time, you'll find this to be an acceptable, but cheap microwave. Tesco Value Microwave
by renniechew Going into a student accommodation is always a scary process. Not just for the obvious reasons of meeting new people you are expected to live with and get along with for the next 9 months but to see whether the flat itself is going to be able to handle 6 teenagers who mostly have no clue about independence. I'd like to say I am not one ... of these and have grown up maturely with little need for a microwave; however, the oven and the hob are still something I am not completely confident with so straight to the microwave I usually go. Laziness is probably a huge incentive too! So with ready meals being the main choice of every meal, a well-made microwave is an essential. I didn't go out a buy this product, though I would have gone for something similar to this anyway. I never see the need for expensive kitchen appliances as they all seem to do a standard job anyway. This was already here when I arrived and I had no trouble with it at all. To use the microwave, you just bung the ready meal, tea, rice, whatever on the glass dish inside, close the door turn the knob with the heating setting and then turn the knob onto the right time you want. I only ever use the maximum heating or defrost due to impatience and little understanding of the other options and they work perfectly fine. It's a shame that defrost has only one setting and can't choose what meal you are defrosting like most microwaves but it does the job just fine anyway. The main problem and possibly only big issue I have with this product is the time dial. It is quite difficult to get it onto specific times, say if you only wanted it in there for 30 seconds and I usually just time this myself and pop it open when I think it's ready. However, other than that, I think it's perfectly suitable for any kitchen. Read the complete review |

Tesco Value Microwave
by jlaker1992 Introduction: Living in a small flat can be annoying, I don't have much space! I needed a cheap microwave so I could cook ready meals and reheat my food when needed. I really didn't want to spend a fortune on the microwave. My local Tesco extra has a section with Microwaves in it, so I had a look at them and instantly spotted ... this one, it was the ugliest but was also the cheapest. It looked like the perfect one! It has two dials on it, one for time and the other for power. Its the simplest microwave I have ever seen and it is also the most basic. It is plain white with black markings. I have been very impressed with this microwave. Price: I only paid £33 for this, that is very cheap compared to the others that you will find. I was hoping to get something a little more good looking, but this does the basic tasks that you would want. If you need something with all the buttons, then this isn't for you! Does it work?: for me it works very well. I can pop in a microwave meal such as a curry and it will cook it through quickly. I also use it to warm up take aways which were not all eaten. It makes a loud ping when it is finished and is so simple to use. There are very few bad points to this microwave. It has a 700w one so it does take a little longer than more expensive ones. If you don't mind waiting a little longer for it to cook then you will be fine. It is also not the largest one on the market and is a little small on the inside. You will have to pay more money for a bigger one if size is the issue. It fits nicely on the top in my kitchen and doesn't look too cheap, You wouldn't know that it is a Tesco value Microwave just from looking at it. This is a bargain Microwave, Im not sure what makes a good microwave as this is the first one I have owned, but I have no complaints about it. Overall: I would recommend this to anyone on a budget or moving into there first home or flat. It works well and has lasted me almost a year without any issues. Its not too hard to clean and I have kept mine looking rather nice. Im not sure how long it will last me, BUt I would consider getting one again in the future. Tesco also do more upmarket microwaves, but this is the budget version and is perfect for me! Its really simple to use, Even a cooking novice will like it. This gets 5 stars from me, it does exactly what it is meant to do, Im verry happy with this! Thanks for reading my review. I hope it helped you out a bit :) Josh Read the complete review |
