Argos Value Range White Manual Microwave
Advantages: Cheap, Good Value For Money And Easy To Use.
Disadvantages: None For Me
It is Friday night, the wax is in the microwave as I get ready for my weekend wax before heading out. Walking out of my kitchen and into the living room, I get the fright of my life. It sounds as if fireworks are having a display in my microwave. I have never had to through a microwave out before due to it not working before so I had no idea what was wrong. I opened the microwave door to find that the silver bit inside was black. It was then that I realised how dangerous it was and lucky that a fire never started.
What with it being not long after Christmas and money still being tight, it was defiantly the wrong time for items in the house to break down and need replaced. Some of my friends use their microwaves just for heating up some baked beans, this I have to be honest takes me aback. I cant get my head around why someone would have a big item in their kitchen that they don't really need as they don't use it very often. I however make all my meals from scratch and pop in the freezer to keep fresher for longer and when I am ready to use what I want for dinner that night, I put the contents in the microwave till it defrosts.
I needed a microwave that was within my budget, one that was reliable but also affordable. I had a look online at the ARGOS website where I found this basic but eye catching priced microwave, that is made by Argos and in their Value Range. I wrote down the product number and got my partner to take me to collect it from the store.
When I got home I sat down to play with my new toy. Opening the packaging and getting the microwave out of the box was rather easy as it didn't put up much of a fight. I had a quick read through the instructions but there really wasn't much point to be honest, so please save yourself time and don't bother. As there is no digital display or clock on the microwave, it is rather simple to set up, plug it and and your ready to go. Once you have done that, you will need to put the turntable in and I have to say that this is where it shows that it is a budget product, the turntable itself is fine but the slightest little knock and you have to spend few seconds putting it back in to place. I'm not a clumsy person but if you are a little heavy handed, this could maybe become a problem for you causing a little annoyance.
The basic but easy to use microwave comes with a two dials, the top right hand side. One is to select the wattage setting, which starts at defrost and ends at 700. There are four different options in between, so you can be assured you can use the one that you need to use at the time. The lower dial is for the time that you wish to use the microwave. The two dials are clearly marked so you are able to see what settings that you are putting them on and how long you are putting them on for.
Both dials turn smoothly and it is easy for you to select exactly what you need. The ping, when the food is finished cooking/heating in the microwave is actually quite quite. It is that loud I can hear it from another room, which is good to know, so if you are a quite hard of hearing, then this little microwave might be quite good for you as you would not miss the sound of the ping, There is a large clear push button that opens the door rather easily. The spinning disc in the centre is clear, and it is easily removable for cleaning and also dish washer safe.
As with all my reviews, I am always honest and it has to be said that, the inside of this microwave is not the biggest that I have seen. If I use my big square plates (also from ARGOS) the plate does not spin, it still heats up but makes a bit of a racket in the microwave when it is cooking. However if I use my round standard plates, they fit perfect and I have no problems at all. A section of front of the door is black, and does the usual see through capability when you have turned on the microwave, so you can keep an eye on something inside it with ease. I have always found that my food is cooked thoroughly when I use it, so it gets the thumbs up with me.
When it comes time to cleaning the microwave, lets face it, we aren't all that keen, but this microwave is really easy and doesn't take long at all. I half fill a heat proof bowl with warm water, half a orange and half a lemon, then heat on full power for five minutes. Doing this will help the cleaning process, it will clean, freshen the microwave and the steam helps soften any mess that may be in the microwave which leaves it easy to just wipe away.
I would recommend this ARGOS Value Range microwave that is selling for £30 and rate it a 4 out of 5. While I personally can not find any fault with it, I could understand how some people may, for this reason and the reasons stated in this review is the reason as to why I am not giving it full marks. Considering that you get similar items for more money, I could recommend that if you are wanting a basic one then this microwave is the one for you, especially if you are looking for one on a budget. Lets face it, we all love a bargain, who doesn't? I hope that my review is of some use to you and helps you make your decision as to if this is the microwave for you or not. Thank you very much for taking the time to read it.
