Advantages: Compact, Great low price, Reliable.
Disadvantages: Very Basic
We only bought a microwave when I started weaning my son. My husband has always disliked microwaves and as he does most of the cooking, I've never had reason to want one.
However, it's a lot easier to be able to freeze baby portions of purees and meals and defrost when you need so I started looking for our first ever microwave (now I wonder how I got to my thirties without one).
I only wanted a small and easy to use microwave so I started looking for a compact and cheap model that didn't look too tacky. This model has been perfect for our purposes.
It cost around £30 from Argos, there is a white version too but I thought that looked a lot more plasticky. The silver version looks very good considering the price.
**Functions
It's pretty basic but does everything I need. There are 2 dials - one is the power and the other is the time. The power dial has 5 settings (defrost, 120w, 385w, 540w and 700w). The time dial goes up to 35 mins.
I only ever use the defrost and 700w (Heating category D) functions, which are perfectly adequate for every day defrosting and cooking.
The dials are manual, one benefit of this is that there is no unecessary LED clock on the front. I have so many of these around the house on ovens, DVDs etc all using up precious electricity.
The "ping" is loud enough to be heard but not too loud- a bit tinny sounding but perfectly functional.
**Cleaning
The inside is white which means any splashes are visible and can be cleaned off easily, the glass plate and revolving ring are both removable for cleaning. The outside is silver and the door is a shiny black. The door does show smeary cleaning marks, so needs a quick polish after cleaning.
** Capacity/Capability
This machine has a 17L capacity which is quite small, you can just fit a full dinner plate inside.
The actual dimensions are: (H)25.8, (W)43.3, (D)32.8cm. Weight 10.7kg.
Everything I have defrosted or cooked in this microwave have been well and evenly cooked. I have never had any problems with it and would recommend as a basic, compact model.
Summary: Basic, Bijoux Bargain.
